Bar Louie - Round Rock, TX
Disappointing Food, Inattentive…read moreService, and Poor Value
We visited Bar Louie in Round Rock on Sunday 10/25 around noon, and unfortunately, the experience was extremely disappointing. While the atmosphere has potential, the food quality, preparation, and service fell far below expectations, especially considering the prices.
Food Quality: 2/5
Fried Chicken Sandwich: The chicken was excessively fried and overcooked, leaving it dry and unpleasant. It lacked the quality and proper preparation expected from a restaurant charging these prices.
Eggs: We specifically requested medium-cooked eggs with a runny yolk. Instead, they arrived completely overcooked. Unfortunately, the same problem occurred with another entrée.
Biscuit: Extremely dry, with no butter, sauce, or accompaniment provided. It was difficult to enjoy, they were not even warm and I don't think they were fresh.
Second Entrée: The eggs were once again overcooked. The ham appeared to be good quality, but it was also overcooked, which diminished the overall experience.
Tater Tots: One of the few positives. They were cooked properly, had a good texture, and the accompanying sauce had a pleasant flavor.
Overall, the ingredients may have potential, but the kitchen's execution was seriously lacking. Multiple overcooked items across different dishes suggest a problem with consistency and attention to detail.
Service: 1/5
The service was extremely slow and inattentive. We barely saw our server throughout the meal, and there was little to no follow-up to check whether everything was satisfactory.
What made this particularly disappointing was that we barely touched some of the food, eating perhaps only one or two pieces, yet no one seemed to notice or check whether something was wrong.
A basic part of hospitality is checking on guests after their food arrives, especially when plates remain almost untouched. That opportunity to correct the experience was completely missed.
Environment: 3/5
The atmosphere is pleasant and has potential. However, the restaurant feels much more like a casual sports bar than a polished hotel dining establishment.
There is nothing wrong with a sports bar, but a restaurant operating within a hotel should deliver a certain standard of food quality, service, and hospitality. Unfortunately, that standard was not reflected in our experience.
Value for Money: 1/5
The food is overpriced relative to the quality delivered.
When guests are paying restaurant prices, they should reasonably expect properly cooked proteins, eggs prepared as requested, appropriate accompaniments, and attentive service.
None of these expectations are unreasonable. They are fundamentals of a good dining experience.
Final Verdict: 2/5
Bar Louie has a pleasant environment, and I can acknowledge the positives: good tater tots, flavorful sauce, and seemingly good-quality ham.
However, good ingredients mean very little when they are poorly prepared, and a nice atmosphere cannot compensate for inattentive service.
The kitchen needs better quality control, consistency, and attention to cooking temperatures. The service team also needs to be more attentive and proactive.
Would I return for the food? Absolutely not.
At these prices, there are better dining experiences to be had. Unfortunately, this visit was not worth the money or your time.
