I came in looking to try something new -- my first Persian restaurant -- and MidEast Eats / Ava Bakery did not disappoint. They absolutely delivered a flavor I didn't know I was craving. The burger? Let's just say it never stood a chance. Perfectly seasoned, juicy, and stacked with bold flavors that hit all the right notes. One bite in and I knew I'd made the right choice. This wasn't just a meal; it was an experience. Now, the Yogurt drink... that was a different story. My palate wasn't quite ready for it -- bold, unique, definitely a curveball for me. Not my usual lane, but I respect the creativity and boldness behind it. And I can't forget to give a major shout out to Diana! Her knowledge, hospitality, and genuine care took the experience to the next level. She walked me through the menu like a pro, answered all my questions, and made sure everything was spot on. Excellent customer service like that is hard to come by. Ava's is located on the North Side of Union Hills Dr. It is close to the North Eastern Corner of the 7th Street Plaza. It can seat about 16 people. Both the dining area and the restrooms are very clean, but the bathroom is poorly illuminated. The front dining room does not have shades. The menu consisted mostly of sandwiches. Some are unique to cuisine they serve. My dining partner and I hand Bandari and Kotlet Sandwiches. Both encased in aluminum foil. Either tastes different, in a very pleasant and unique way. These sandwiches include two hot peppers in a separate dish. My partner had tea, which was mildly infused with cardamom. It all was very good. The service was leisurely. If you are not too adventurous, but long for something exotic try the Bandari or Kotlet. They are not too far off from the American diet. They also include tongue sandwiches on among the 16 choices you have there. They also serve soups and other items. The menu, as it appears in yelp, may not be the full one. This is definitely a place to return to. More items need to be explored, or for another taste of Bandari and/or Kotlet. read more

Unorganized and unprepared. Ava bakery was at the Persian new year on 3/2/24. We purchased two chicken kabob plates and were told it would be a 10 min wait. After 30 minutes of no communication, we asked for an update and were told it would be 2 hours or we can have a "sausage sandwich" instead. A single sandwich costs much less than a chicken kabob plate, we also wasted so much time waiting and so did everyone else. We heard about this place from a friend and made a point of visiting them during our trip. This is a casual eating place. Furnitures are bare and the place is small. The service is okay. The food is great. They use quality ingredients and do not mask the tastes with lots of salt. We had chicken and meat kebabs and both were great. I specially like the chicken kebab with garlic sauce. Ava Bakery very quickly became one of my favorite restaurants in Phoenix. Their freshly baked Persian breads are delicious and a must try. Their sandwiches are very flavorful and unique and are inspired by Persian dishes. (My favorites are Bandari, Ava special and kookoo sabzi). Last weekend we tried their traditional Persian breakfast and it was a very fun and unique experience. As for the desserts, I have to suggest their Saffron Rice Pudding or Saffron ice cream. Ava Bakery is a one of a kind bakery and restaurant, and if you are a foodie, I highly recommend trying this place. You won't be disappointed. Visiting Phoenix, AZ, and decided to check out this place. We ordered Kale Pache, which is a delicious traditional Persian dish. It is the most famous Persian breakfast on weekends. Pacha is sheep head and feet soup. Pacha refers to a stew made from boiled sheep parts, which could include the head, feet, brain, tongue, and stomach. Their menu priced the Kale Pache at $55, but our waiters mentioned the price is $35 for half and $75 for a complete meal. We asked for one and a half but got one whole in a dish and two half in 2 separate plates. We did not say anything, so according to her, it should be $35 for half and $75 for one complete, but she charged us $49.99 for each half and $75.99 for the whole Kale Pache dish. CA is supposed to be the most expensive, you think, but the same food with the same portion goes for $30 as a complete-size meal. I have never seen half-size in LA or OC, either. Besides the cost and misleading menu and servers, they charged us two half as separately to make more money. This tells a lot about what type of people you are dealing with. The food is delicious but not worth the money. Check your recipes before leaving the store. read more

The former owners no longer manage the business so the menu has changed. They kept a few persian items on the menu which is what we ordered. Overall you could tell the individuals that cooked the food were not familiar with persian food or cooking in general. I would not come back here in search of persian food. They also are not receptive to any sort of feedback and become extremely defensive. read more

After leaving the Dollar store I noticed a neighboring new business with an "Open" sign. With a sign that said "bakery" of course, I had to investigate. This business had just opened--as in that very morning just previous to my arrival and I was graciously welcomed. It's new and clean with several tables and a small bakery case. Judging from the signage, they serve sandwiches and seem to specialize in Persian dishes. For a bakery, there was not a large selection this morning (but it had been opened less than an hour!) yet I found myself getting a couple of almond pastries to share with another cup of coffee when I got home. Their buttery goodness was a hit with my husband also. This cafe is close to my home in an area I pass repeatedly. I will probably go back soon and check out some of the other menu items. read more

Heard from a few people we know about this food truck and they had all good things to say so we decided to try it today. We got a gyros sandwich and shawarma wrap with fries. The meat was seasoned well and the fries were super crispy and had a nice seasoning! The owners are super nice and they have a little seating area under a tent right next to them. My husband and I have been searching for a new place to get quality Greek food for quite a while (since Saffron Jak's left the suite currently occupied by MidEast Eats). We have found our spot! Dine in, order for pick up...it doesn't matter, you simply must try their food!! I ordered the Kifta plate which came with a generous helping of rice, a scrumptious side of hummus with pita wedges, grilled tomato, onion and jalapeno, and a refreshing combo of tomato, onion and cucumber. The kifta meat was perfect...tender and delicately seasoned. My husband had the Gyro sandwich. So many times with a gyro the meat has been twirling on the spit all day, drying out the meat. This meat was unbelievably tender and, again, perfectly spiced. And I forgot something awesome. When we sat down we were offered a sample of their bread. Who turns down free bread?? We were given a large portion of the most wonderful bread. I could have just eaten that! From start to finish our experience was a delight! The service was on point.
