This cafe has something for everyone: sandwiches, omelets, salads, baked goods, smoothies, juices, coffee, tea and burgers. For my first time, I decided on the Southwestern sandwich, and it was pretty tasty; next time I'll see if they'll toast the bread. The avocado was extremely fresh, the cream cheese is 'light' so I don't feel guilty, and the red onion really brought out the spicy taste. There's lots of seating, and it's a open & wide space so you don't feel all crammed into a corner trying to eat. Plenty of people were on their laptops, so I'm thinking this is a wifi hotspot, which rocks because they've got plenty of coffee, lattes, and frapps to go around. I can't wait to come back here for brunch to try either the Shepherd's Omelet or Benny (their eggs benedict). When I placed my order, the cashier/hostess was looking out the window and not paying attention. She then repeated the wrong order back to me. I corrected her, then sat down. Despite correction, we still received the wrong order. Basic customer service tip: look your customer in the eye, listen to their order, then document it correctly. I recommend holding off on the tip up front (you pre-pay, cafeteria-style), and bringing cash if you feel compelled to tip, in the event that you receive what you ordered. My other issue is with the side. If I pay $14 for a sandwich/burger, don't serve a side of chips. The fact that they came from a bag that says "organic" doesn't change the fact that they are chips. This caused a ding on both the value and food score. At least the setting was fun, the lamb burger was tasty, and my company was great. I was very excited to come to this place after the good reviews I read, but was pretty disappointed when we ate there. The homemade toast was good, but the potatoes were flavorless. It was like eating a plain boiled potato. The eggs were very underdone. If you want over easy, I recommend asking for over medium. The snickerdoodle was a little too sweet and had a strange acrid aftertaste. Almost orangey, but not quite as tasty as that sounds. Not horrible, but I wouldnt go here again. May be the last time ordering as the standards for pickup orders don't seem to matter. Ordered the farmers helper- Confused how someone can mess up potatoes so badly as a well known breakfast spot. As soon as I opened the box I saw shriveled up under cooked potatoes. It was as if it was a microwaved potato, then cut into pieces, seasoned and thrown into a skillet to pass for being cooked properly or that of something reheated from the day before. Even the toast was a bust and tasted like a stale piece of bread thrown in the toaster for the next pickup order to get stuck with. Disappointed in how a kitchen allows something so simple and inedible to go out. As a pickup order you feel kinda screwed over because you can't do much once you've already left! Yeah I agree with most of the other reviewers this is a trendy, busy place with good food and juices. All if it is handmade to order where lunch can range $8-$11 depending on the order. Sandwiches can ordered whole or half when ordering a combo with salad or soup. Great vegetarian burgers. When coming here I like to order the turkey sandwich with cream cheese and cranberry, lettuce and sprouts. YUM! I also like the spicy veggie sandwich. I haven't been disappointed yet. Great atmosphere with local art. Great brunch place with a huge variety. I had the huckleberry French toast, and it was the perfect balance of bread, butter, sweet, and tart berry flavors. I really liked that the bread was like a multigrain, sprouted type loaf. The food took forever to come out, but it was worth the wait, and the smoothies held us over till then. This has been a favorite place of mine for years. But I am working hard to change my way of eating and I plan to visit Middleway more often. Everything you get here is fresh and well made. I went in for a quick bite and got the 1/2 turkey cranberry sandwich with salad for $10.50. Great value and big meal!! I have never been disappointed. Thier salsa is darn good and their tahini dressing is STILL my fav. Often restaurants that have a menu that is largely veg/vegan do not appeal to me because I am a carnivore & french fry foodie! Middleway is not all veg/vegan however they offer a lot of dishes that are. AND THEY ARE GOOD!!! I am always surprised and happy when I leave. In town visiting from Los Angeles, yelp helped me discover this gem of a cafe. I originally came in on a Sunday with a couple friends and it was certainly packed with people! In my book, busy usually means yummy, so we waited it out, found a table and received our juices fairly quickly for the amount of people in here. Already being pleased, I was extra excited to get my vegan tofu stack breakfast made with mostly organic goodness that I dove in as soon as the plate hit the table. It was so good I practically licked the plate clean....ok so maybe I did actually lick it, but no one was watching so it's totally ok. ;) I returned this morning to fill my tummy with vegan love and fresh juice before my flight home. It was far less busy, but still a decent size crowd for a Wednesday morning. Finding a table was no issue, but the made to order juice and food is still a bit of a wait. For the record, I'm completely ok waiting for fresh and delicious food. If I ever make it back to Anchorage, this will absolutely be on my restaurant list. UPDATE: when I received my vegan breakfast burrito, it was actually made incorrectly (with tofu instead of the soy chorizo that it was supposed to be) and the black beans didn't taste completely cooked, a little too al dente for my preferred burrito wants. When I asked a server about it, she immediately apologized, checked with the kitchen and refunded me the cost. Super nice, really understandable. 1 star deducted for the lack of communication from the kitchen and under cooked beans. :( I recommend the tofu stack over the burrito to any other vegans that visit here - both for prep and taste. read more

Omg everything in the pasty case looked so good. Lots of vegan and gluten free choices. The spices on my hash browns were so flavorful and good. The guacamole was perfect and not spicy at all. My husband hates this place, but he's more of a Gwennies guy. My first visit was for lunch and I had one of the veggie sandwiches. It was okay, but I wasn't big for the spread. The coffee was a fill your own station style with a good brew on. I have also had a mocha here and it was top notch. 2nd visit with my mother for lunch was much better and as we were there a bit more around brunch time people were still getting breakfast which looked amazing. 3rd visit, I came in for breakfast. It was a seriously long wait. Not in line, mind you, but waiting for the food. But when it came, it was hot and delicious. The place is a LOT larger than it looks. It runs the entire length, so if you enter in the front, you can go all the way to the back where there is also outdoor seating during the nicer months. There is local artwork on the walls and it's modern decor is inviting. There is a set of bathrooms about the middle with only one bathroom for the boys and one for girls so if it's busy you may be waiting. read more

Came here for an early dinner tonight while in Anchorage! Make sure to check their hours, as they aren't open very late. I think they close at 6 PM on Sundays. This is the least packed I have ever seen this place, but you can call your order ahead and pick it up, which is nice! Had a Mango Dream smoothie: subbed pineapple for the ginger and it was amazing! I am sure it is fab with the ginger too, but I wanted more fruit! The hubby had a coyote burger. He said it was great. He couldn't figure out what the sauce was but wished he would have dipped instead of poured on top, but said it was still really good! I had the avocado melt! Anchorage has been open for 50% capacity for months now, this isn't a new operation. When we went to order, they didn't have a table number available and said we would have to get our food for take away. We staTed that we would like to order and when the next table becomes available, we'd like to dine in. As we ordered, at 12:00 on a Saturday, a table became open and brought their table number back. We didn't finish ordering and we asked to have that table. The staff continued to say there were no more tables. I asked how their system worked for getting a table, do we have to make a reservation or is it first come first serve, in which case, can we get on some sort of list for the next table? There is no system for being next to get a table when the restaurant is at 50% occupancy. Seems to be under poor leadership, however the food is great. read more

Middle way was stocked with vegan muffins (blueberry was the best), cupcakes, breads, and of all kinds of stuff. For lunch I had the BBQ burger with daiya and chips. Breakfast the next day was veganized huevos rancheros. Both were phenom. Espresso was decent, but they can't compete with Kaladis next door. Fantastic place in Anchorage. Why -- ample seating and quick turnover. Rarely have to wait.... Service is laid back (order at counter) and relaxed. Seat and essentially serve yourself. Very nice girls working the front counter. Food is yummy and although I think the food is incrementally better at Snow City, I can't stand the heinous waits at Snow City that are so frequent. All locals, no tourists here. Families, singles, hippies, you name it. Everyone's here. Free wi-fi. Scrumptious baked goods (cookies and the banana bread is fantastic)! Definitely just a great place to grab a low-key yummy breakfast and watch some people, read the paper, have some GREAT coffee, surf the internet on your laptop/Ipad, and just enjoy the chill vibe. Oh wow. So so good!! So many options for amazing food, all of which comes very quickly might I add. I got the Base Camp (eggs, meat, pancakes/French toast). The pancakes were the vegan multigrain, and they are so light and fluffy with such good flavor of cinnamon. Eggs and bacon were great, too. Got the Green Gogo juice too, which was one of the better green juices I've had. Mot too bitter, and had a little kick of spice from maybe the parsley or something. I love this place! First tip, get here before 9am then you will have quicker service and your food arrives quicker as well. Being Keto, I can't really enjoy any of the breads or pasteries but they LOOK AMAZING! I especially drool over the snickerdoodles because they are a sandwich cookie, MMMMMMMmmmmm! When the day comes that I allow myself to have one, I will be in heaven if they are anything like the stuff I CAN have. Which are the omelettes, and they have several different types on the menu. The omelettes are usually pretty fluffy and fresh, my favorite being the Shepherd's Omelette. I usually ask for the kale instead of the home fries, and I ask for avocado and a side of sour cream with it. Very filling. They have a huge variety of sandwiches, other breakfast items, and lots of cupcake/sweet breads/cookies to pick from as well. When they can, they try to do as much gluten free as well. They have a wonderful staff of baristas that are good at what they do. I usually just get the cold brew with some heavy cream and SF vanilla, but they also serve smoothies and frapps along with the usual hot lattes and cocoas. I'm very disappointed that Middle Way is charging a disposal fee (basically a tax) on takeout orders without warning their customers! I was charged 42 cents for a 12.00 takeout order. My order did not require an employee to deliver my food to my table or clean up after me, saving them labor. The last time I was there, my group waited an hour for our food. Always busy and service is slow. I ordered a breakfast burrito and it was sloppily assembled and the tortilla felt soggy. I had to take some filling out and reassemble the soggy tortilla. Maybe just let customers know on the menu it's a messy dish. I've also ordered a drink with so much ginger it gave me a headache. I couldn't even drink it. Most other things taste great. I had a raspberry cupcake with pink frosting and a hint of rose(?) once. It was wonderful and vegan I believe. The morning glory smoothie is frothy and great. I love grabbing it on the way to work.
