Absolutely horrible. I came in for a simple oil change and they called me 3 hours later trying to charge me $1,153.39 to replace my oil pan. They even said that I would need to possibly ship my car out and I wouldn't get it back for a week. This caused me so much panic and anxiety because I literally do not have that kind of money. I called my dad for help and after 10 minutes of him being there it turns out all I needed was an oversized plug that would cost $9.99. I would give zero stars if I could. I needed to get my safety inspection and, against my better judgement, took my truck here because they didn't require an appointment. They told me that my tie rods needed to be replaced, as well as another small thing, and it would cost over $400 to do just the tie rods. I had just had my entire rack and outer tie rods replaced about a year ago so I opted to take it back to my mechanic to have it checked out while having the other issue fixed as well. My mechanic said there was no issue with the tie rods, even sending me a video of him inspecting them and explaining what would happen if they needed to be replaced. I went back to Midas to show them the work done and let them know that my mechanic checked the tie rods and found nothing wrong, offering to show the video that he had sent me. The midas mechanic said "it's your mechanic's word against mine and I'm not losing my license over this". Keep in mind, my mechanic prides himself on having only 5 star reviews on yelp (hundreds of them), but unfortunately does not do safety inspections for the state. Needless to say, I left very angry. Fast forward 30 days (the time you have to wait for the previous inspection to expire before attempting to get another) and I took my truck into the Toyota dealership, since I needed to get my 5k service done and figured I would just get my safety done there as well. Low and behold, they did NOT find anything wrong with my tie rods either. So the Midas mechanic clearly thought he could hold my safety inspection for ransom, to the tune of $400+. Not only did they not get my money this time (other than the $25 for the safety), they will never get my business again or anyone else's that I can dissuade from going here. read more

So, I tried to book an appointment here. Online said I would get a call back in 30 mins to confirm the appointment. My surprise when an hour and 6 minutes went by and Tina came on the phone. She said they wouldn't be able to accommodate me. I said I figured after an hour and a half ( which was my mistake it was only an hour and 6 minutes later) they probably wouldn't. She very rudely snapped back at me and said umm, no it was not an hour and a half and I was like yeah ... well after an hour plus I figured it wasn't a go. She said yeah, that's right. Not very honest! This review is long overdue, but let me tell you what happened. We took my truck in for an oil change, after pulling out and going less than a block the engine started overheating and smoking, We pulled over into the FoodLand parking lot till it cooled and the smoke cleared. We drove it back and asked them to look at it again. Now mind you the engine had fully cooled and we only drove it around the corner back to Midas. The technician goes under the car and comes up with a lit cigarette telling us that he lit it off the bottom of the engine because The catalytic converter was overheating. I know that's not true because the engine was cold. Drove it to a different mechanic who opened up the air filter and found something was shoved inside of it to block the airflow. This could only have happened during the oil change!!! I went back and told the manager about it to which he defended his guys. Not apologizing at all! This happened about four years ago so perhaps staff has overturned. It was clearly prejudice to someone who is blonde haired and blue-eyed and not from this island! read more

DON'T GET YOUR SAFETY CHECK HERE--THIS PLACE WILL TRY TO RIP YOU OFF. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! Before bringing my car to Midas in Kailua for a safety inspection I read some of the Yelp reviews. I saw that a number of people had found that Midas failed their vehicles for hazy headlights, or for other issues that later safety inspectors didn't consider a problem. I was running out of time so I figured I'd chance it. Wrong move. I polished my own headlight lenses before I went, just in case, so that wasn't a problem. But Midas failed me anyway, for a supposedly leaky strut and a headlight being out of alignment. Midas wanted to replace the headlight assembly and the strut. I took the car home and looked at the struts. I saw no evidence of any leak. The headlight had passed every previous inspection. So I took the car to a different shop and sure enough, it passed without any problem, and the mechanic did go over the vehicle carefully. Given my experience and the experiences of many others, I'm convinced Midas is using the inspection to get business in a heavy-handed, and possibly fraudulent, way. I'll never go back. You have been warned. read more

If paying 90 bucks for an oil change on a honda accord doesn't deserve one star, I'm not sure what does. I don't think anyone enjoys getting oil changes, but forking out 40 bucks more than what the dealer charges makes it even more painful. If you own a honda on the winward side, just save your time and take it down to the dealer for maintenance. read more

I called Midas this morning because I realized that one of my tires had a bulge in it. They said they didn't have the tire I need but called a local warehouse to inquire about. An hour later they called back and said they had the tire in stock and was able to get it delivered within the next hour. Now 20 mins later, they are able to replace. Thank you guys. read more

Went here to get a new tire and everything went smooth in that aspect. In and out in about 40 minutes. But the reason why I'm giving them 1 star is because they stole money from my car. Had about 30$ in my middle console, know that for a fact because I used some of it to get food right before I came in. Later that night went to get more food and what do you know? It's gone. Nobody else had access to my car during this time. Come to think of it my tire could've just been patched instead and I could've saved a hundred bucks. Didn't bother going back because they'll just deny and I won't get anywhere. Very shady, I wouldn't recommend coming here. read more

do not go here. I went in for a basic $42 oil change and walked out paying $115....Basically, they rope you in, then charge you for an extra quart of oil. After that, they rotate and balance ONE tire for FREE!?!?!?! After that, they charge for the other three...after all, what good is one tire getting balanced when the other three aren't. Wow, everyone reviewing Midas Kailua does not seem to be visiting the same shop I am. They may give you a list of things "wrong" with your car...but they are honest and real with you. Perhaps you may want to consider taking better care of your vehicle...For example, my cadalytic converter went bad on my truck and they told me I would probably need a new oxygen sensor. I got both parts ordered, prepaid (which they usually do not allow but my husbands got the card and I needed the truck as soon as they were done), I picked up the truck and was told I needed to be issued a REFUND because I did not end up needing the sensor. If that's not honesty, I do not know what is. They do everything they can do to make it right. Kudos to them. I'll be back. read more

I would give negative ranting if I could. This place is a total rip off. They give you crap products that are over priced that break in 2 to 3 months then charge you for it, even though it clearly was the product you replaced it with. But try to hide that they are going to charge for the bad part till after they order the replacement part and schedule an appointment and get it fixed. Then say oh yea the boss said last time said it was your fault and not the product. But won't call the GM or give a proper explanation for it, and try and push you out of the door, saying oh he will call you tomorrow. When I'm sure they don't care and your just $$$. Also not to mention that they use the wrong size wrenches and they strip bolts but try and play it off as my fault even though it was clearly them, as the only lug nuts that are stripped on my tires are the ones they took off and replaced. I will never come back and wait my time with this place of business. And if I were you I would spend your time, money and your car issues at a place that actually cares about you and your your wellbeing. read more

I switched from Goodyear to here because they call me ASAP when my car is done. At other places it's sits there for hours when you could have been off and onto your day. Don't waste your time or money. Went there today, 3/22/13 for an oil change and was excited to hear it was less than I expected. Unfortunately I got what I paid for. Their costumer services was poor, their attitude condescending and their job was sub par. The guy cut me off every time I asked a question and tried to scare me into getting a thousand dollars worth of work done. After reading the reviews posted, I was very hesitant about going to midas for my safety check. My truck is 10 years old and I was afraid they were going to tell me I needed to fix a bunch of expensive parts to pass. But I needed it today and I live 2 minutes away from them. I called and the lady told me if I brought it in now (11:45 am), it would take about an hour to do. So I drove down and the lady told me that I could leave or wait. I decided to head to the bank and came back afterwards. While I was waiting in their office (small but clean and air conditioned with a tv), the receptionist lady was very sweet and we had a nice conversation. The mechanic came in a little while later and told me that my insurance card didn't go in effect until two weeks from now and he needed the old one I had. It was in my glove compartment and he escorted me to my truck to get it for him. I appreciated this a lot. He could've just rummaged around my truck to get it but had the professionalism to let me get it instead. He told me that my truck was done and he would meet me back inside the office. My truck passed with no problems and it took only 30 minutes. This was, hands down, the best customer service I've had for a safety check. I usually go to jiffy lube, and while they get the job done, they are usually very dismissive and unfriendly. It was the same price too, $15. I'm beyond impressed and very excited that my new safety check spot is two minutes from my house. read more

Went in for service and to my surprise the workers were very kind. When I went into the office there was a new lady and she greeted me right away and was very friendly. After checking me in they pulled my car in right away and let me know some things that needed attention. I would have never known otherwise as I have an older vehicle. I had the work done as they promised to have my car back by the days end. I was very impressed with their courtesy check and the professionalism. She called me to let me know even though they close at 5 my car would be done shortly and I could head down. I really needed my car and appreciate their service and willingness to help me. I called Midas in Kailua for a quote to flush my transmission. It was immediately apparent that the lady working the desk was completely clueless as it took her a solid 5 minutes to get me a quote. She also kept asking what fluid I need. This should be known at a service shop and easily looked up. Prices for standard maintenance like this are generally listed on the wall with a standard price like a fast food menu, this should have taken about 5 seconds. Then she quotes me $280 for the fluids. I ask if this includes filter and labor. She tells me that filter and labor is an extra $250. This is a 30 minute job mind you. This would put their labor charges at roughly $400 per hour with a $40 dollar filter. So $530 for a transmission flush is really what they think is even close to a fair competitive rate?! Luckily I knew that was insane and went to Jiffy Lube in Kaneohe. The guy quoted me instantly as he knew what services they offer and the price. $184 with fluids, filter and labor. A little more pricey than mainland (to be expected), but realistic and fair none the less. I don't see how Midas gets any business with those prices with all the options available for equal or better quality work. Since the price was so much cheaper I went ahead and serviced my rear differential while I was at it. So maybe it's good to get a Midas quote initially for the sticker shock, and then get more work done for still less than half the cost elsewhere. It was definitely good for Jiffy Lube since they got an additional $50 from me. The diff work was unsolicited btw, I just decided to do it. You will never find me in a Midas again. These 1 star reviews are hilarious. I will NEVER go to this place again. I went in for a safety check and granted I didn't have an appointment but I thought I'd try my luck and drop in since I had taken my cars there in the past and had a satisfactory experience. The manner in which this guy who I assume was the manager talked to me was absurd and insulting. I realize he was busy at the time and I was willing to wait but it was clear the shop was too busy to fit me in. I get it, I had no appointment but to treat a customer who produced past receipts valued in an amount that ANY business would value as a repeat guest was rude. A little advice when dealing in the world of customer service. If you're having a bad day, go home if you can't reel in your emotions a little in the name of courteous service. The funny thing is, while I was waiting, I heard him address 2 customers on the phone in the same "I'm too busy to assist you tone". I own four cars in my household, live nearby in Kailua and have brought lots of business in the past but NEVER again. I went there twice: 1. Safety Check, 2. window didn't close. First, I had a safety check done there because my usual place, Tenn's Auto Center, was still waiting for re-certification. I did not have an appointment and there was nobody waiting in front of me, so they looked at the care rather quickly. Less than 5 minutes later the manager came back and told me that he wanted to show me what would be wrong with the car. I was rather surprised because the car drove perfectly fine. According to the guy, the car lights (too foggy), and two other parts (could break in near future) needed to be replaced (estimate: $750). I agreed to have it repaired at their shop simply because it was the last day of the month, I didn't know much about cars, and the car was already 12 years old. I thought it might be necessary. After picking up the car, the actual costs were a little lower than the estimate, and I had an oil change done as well. I gave the manager my credit card to pay the charges, and my card was declined. I was totally surprised about that. The manager didn't want to try it a second time, so I gave him a different credit card and asked him for the receipt that shows the error code. I called my credit card company just to find out that my card was fine and they did not even see a charge of $700 requested, which usually means that the people at the store screwed up. I mentioned the error code and the nice lady pointed out to me that the expiration date was entered incorrectly. I was very relieved. Well, the car drove exactly the same way as it did before and I felt stupid for getting the repairs done. I only paid about $300 for the last safety check (2 new tires, windshield piper, oil change - part & labor included) at Tenn's Auto Center, so I was shocked about the high bill. I will not go to Midas for a safety check ever again. The second time I could not close the door window, so I went there because my other place was too busy and I could not leave the door window open all day long. they fixed it rather quickly but they also charged $425 for this task. They offered me to just close the window and charge me $50 for the diagnostic service (hey, the window does not close? what could be the problem???!!!) but I declined. Thus, I ended up paying $425 for this quick task, which only took about 60 minutes. After these two experiences and reading the other postings, I know that i will not be going there ever again. They overcharge you and seem to enjoy coming up with things that are wrong in your car. read more

This place is garbage. Don't drop your car unless you really need to and only if you have a second car you can use. Often they will not see your car without an appointment. I got around to scheduling an appointment and booked for 7:30, first available in the morning. I called back at 1:30 to check on the status and they told me my car was second in line. They hadn't even moved it yet. Can't tell you if the service is decent because I haven't even gotten my car back yet. Wouldn't doubt it if the tires and stereo are missing when I go back and they claim I dropped it off that way. It's worth taking the drive to town or Kaneohe just to avoid this shop. read more

Sold me a defective car battery that didn't even last 3 years. Bought the battery July 2007 and had to replace it February 2010. Also, at the time of sale the mechanic told me something was wrong with my alternator and wanted to charge me more to fix it. I took my car to a mechanic friend and was told there was nothing wrong with my alternator. I was stuck with a dead battery on a Sunday when they are not open so I ended up buying a battery from AAA. I tried to get some kind of refund or reimbursement from Midas the following day but I was told that they need to examine the dead battery. Well, I didn't have it since I had AAA dispose of it. Don't ever go there! Not only did they rip me off, their customer service sucks. read more

DO NOT GET A SAFETY CHECK HERE! THEY WILL FAIL YOU TO MAKE YOU BUY REPAIRS! Went here to get air put in my tires because tire warning light was on. Impulsively, I asked if they could also do safety check and they said they could. They failed me for 1/32 of side tire tread and said I needed 2 new tires. I got suspicious when another customer whispered to me in the waiting room that they always find something wrong here. I drove away and the warning light was still on so I called back and woman at desk said yes, they did put air in my tires and to "drive around awhile" and the light will go off. It did not. Took car to another automotive shop two days later and they passed me right away and said Midas' basis for failing me is not a requirement under safety check code. Told me they get this situation all the time from failed safety checks at Midas and Goodyear. They said my tires were low on air and put air in and the warning light went right off. Confronted Midas for a refund and they had no answer for lying about putting air in my tires and said they "stand by their safety check" so they would not issue a refund. What a scam. read more
