Honest, and welcoming. Not how I would normally describe most mechanic shops. I came in late in the day yesterday while on a road trip and Rob mentioned be able to get me back on the road first thing in the morning if I could bring the car in at 8AM. They pulled the car out of the shop around 9AM and it was ready to go so I could get back on the road as soon as possible. I got fantastic service from Rob who I didn't know was the general manager at the time but I did have a feeling he might be. This review is from my friend Benjamin Quigg. He used this shop March 27, 2020. "I met Angie and Don at this shop in Chattanooga. I was traveling on my way back to Nashville from Atlanta. It was 4:30 pm when I had to exit the highway and call for help because my Ford Escape's front passenger tires break seized up and my caliper went bad. I originally called a different Midas but they said they were closing and referred me to this location. I went ahead and drove directly there. I walked in and met Angie the owner right away. At that time I didn't know what the problem was so she had Don, her mechanic take a look at it and take a test drive. He informed me of the issues and that it was severe.... I was lucky I stopped when I did! Don was also preparing to leave and close shop by the end of the hour that day. However after talking with me and finding out that I wasn't local and needed to get home to Nashville due to the pandemic. He decided to stay....Don and Angie were so friendly and patient with me. They not only stayed for hours past closing time to help me. They completely went over and above to inform me, secure my cars safety and even crunched numbers to fit the financing I needed to get back in the road that night. I truly appreciate them and feel super lucky that I happened upon such great folks. I highly recommend them to everyone. This was the best shop experience of my life! read more

If I could give them a zero I would, I'm a female, college student and they completely screwed me over. I took my car in for a thermostat, which they fixed that correctly. Not to mention they first priced me for 225 for both service and the part, for a part that I legit bought and brought to them for 25 dollars, so I only payed for service/labor fee which was 120. But in order to fix my thermostat, you have to unplug a sensor or something for the transmission, and while unplugging it they broke it and didn't plug it back in due to them breaking it. They never told me they broke it and so I pulled out thinking my car was fine only to have my car not switching gears and barely going over 20 mph. I usually never go to anyone besides my car guy at my hometown and now I see why. I had to get my car towed back home which near Knoxville and had to go a week without a car. Once My family got it home and took it to the shop, Scott, the car guy, had to rig my car in order to fix the part they broke since it's such an old car the part is no longer made. I would never recommend this place to anyone, especially young females. Not to mention the men were also beyond rude to me and did not seem like they genuinely wanted to help me. So now I'm not only out the 120 I had to pay them to replace my thermostat, I'm also out almost 200 dollars more in order to tow and get my car fixed at home due to their mistake. I needed to get an oil change and this place was closest to my apartment. I just moved to the area so I wasn't too familiar with the car shops around, so I just stopped by this one. They charged me nearly $200 for an OIL CHANGE ($195). I insisted that this was wrong considering that every oil change I have gotten before has been no more than $50. They said that it was listed in the cap of my oil that I needed the most expensive oil they had. Such an obvious scam, I do not recommend. read more

My car CAUGHT ON FIRE after leaving this shop, and she had the nerve to hang up on me when I called about repairing it. Now they have my car and my money and dont want to talk to me anymore. DO NOT GO HERE. Under any circumstances, do not get your vehicle serviced here. I needed to get an oil change on my way out of town a couple weeks ago, and this place was close and could fit me in within half an hour. The waiting room has an old TV and is dirty, but that describes pretty much every auto service center so I figured it wasn't a bad sign. I was also annoyed by the insanity coming out of the TV in the way of The 700 Club (the program that was on while I was in there was the story of a little girl who was diagnosed with autism at 18 months and then miraculously "cured" in three years by "really intense prayer." A "doctor" attested to this), but for some reason auto shops and The 700 Club seem to go together like peas and carrots, so I didn't see this as a bad sign, either. I did start to get nervous when I heard the proprietor of the shop telling some other customers about how President Obama has made it illegal to order parts for cars that are more than five years old, and how "Obama is crushing perfectly decent Chevy Tahoes!" like the president has a car crusher out in back of the White House and is crushing any car older than five years that happens to drive by. I mean, this guy runs an auto shop. He obviously orders parts on a weekly--hell, maybe daily--basis for cars more than 5 years old. Yet here he is, telling people that Obama has made this illegal. (I'm assuming he was making up some bastardized conservative version of the old Cash for Clunkers program, but who knows.) After about 45 minutes of listening to all kinds of insanity coming from the TV and this guy, my car was ready, and then I almost had a heart attack when I was told it would be $60. Sixty dollars to change the oil on a seven-year old Honda. I asked why it was so high (the most expensive oil change price they had listed on their board was $40), and I was told that my car "takes a really, really thin oil." Now, I know my car takes 5/20 but I've never paid more than $40 for an oil change, even at the dealer. I asked if they had used a synthetic oil three times and got mansplained about thin oils and how "they are making cars so hard to work on nowadays." I never got a response to my question of whether a synthetic oil was used. If I hadn't been getting ready to go out of town I would have pressed for an answer more, but I had to get on the road so I just left, irritated and flabbergasted that it would cost $60 to get my oil changed. When I got home, I popped the hood like I always do before I head out on the road just to have a look at things. And that's when I noticed my washer fluid reservoir cap was missing. I had just traveled to Nashville a couple weeks prior and, as I always do, had popped the hood before that trip and the cap was still in tact. I hadn't had my car serviced since then, so I assumed Midas had forgotten to replace it when they were filling my wiper fluid during the oil change. But when I called, the proprietor answered and said he noticed it was missing during the oil change (which he did not perform, mind you) and "forgot" to tell me when I was paying. I insisted the cap was not missing before I brought my car to them, and asked if he could please go ask the tech who performed the oil change if he possibly left it off, or check to see if it was on the ground where my car had been. He refused, and very condescendingly told me that he was absolutely positive my reservoir cap was missing when I brought my car in. Even more annoyed and angry than when I left, I hung up. Now I have to buy a whole new reservoir, because you can't just order a cap. Oh, and to make things worse? My car started putting out white smoke from the tailpipe a couple days after getting it serviced there. I can't say yet if it's something they did, but my car was completely fine before I brought it into MIdas. And now I have to order a new washer reservoir and take my car somewhere else to find out why it's got smoke coming out of it. Again: DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE. read more

Midas - Oil Change Stations Near Me - Chattanooga, Tennessee

My son goes to college in Chattanooga and was having an issue with his car overheating so I told him to get a few quotes for the repairs from some local shops. Unfortunately, I knew what the problem was but am currently too far away to make the repairs myself. The first place he took it to was Midas in Chanttanooga on South Market. They told him $341.89, so he told them to do the repairs. As a young adult not knowing how mechanics shops can be these days he never asked a few questions that he should've asked before having them make the repairs. So I ask them to send me the quote so I can see the break down of the fees. First, they charged him $89 for a diagnostic fee and only credited back $45 when he told them to make the repairs. I have worked in the automotive business for a few years when I was younger and have had repairs done dealers and professional shops before and never have I been charged a diagnostic if I was paying them to the repairs. When I spoke to the lady that stated she was the manager/owner of the shop, she stated that nobody in that area refunds the diagnostic fee. I called 3 random shops that in that area (Blackwell Automotive, Tire World, and Crown Dodge) and ALL 3 shops waive the diagnostic fee if you have your repairs done there. Second, I look up the part from the receipt and it is a Dorman part# 902-301 for $64.95. Knowing good and well that they get parts like this typically from a local parts store, I get prices on the this part from them and it's half the cost of the price they charged me. Although I'm aware some markup is required but TWICE the cost is outrageous. The price they charged me was the same price as an OEM part from Mopar, so why wasn't this used? Which leads me into my next concern. Third, the Dorman part #902-301 has several reviews about its continuous failure shortly after installed. When I say several it's over half the reviews on several different websites. This means that we will more than likely be making this repair again in the near future. I feel confident in saying that they use poor parts intentionally so that customers have to keep coming back. I am aware there is a 90 day warranty but that's pretty pathetic when most parts from the auto store are a year and this part from Auto Zone and Advance Auto has a LIFETIME warranty. * I called to confirm this* Forth, the owner/manager refused to take a valid coupon for $20 off for this repair because Midas Customer Relations credited me the remainder of the diagnostic fee. Customer Relations was very helpful but because these locations are franchised they have limited control over their rogue owners. Based off the situation I feel this was a prime example of Midas taking advantage of a young college student that doesn't know any better and a parent that isn't nearby to help. For these reasons neither me nor anyone in my family will ever give another penny to Midas and I hope anyone reading this thinks twice before spending a dime at this location. read more

Let me tell you my experience with the Midas on South Market Street: I am a frequent traveler from Atlanta, GA that was just passing through. When my car started sounding funny I pulled off on South Market Street in Chattanooga, TN. I broke completely down right off the exit. I was so distraught and the horrible smell that was coming from under my hood did NOT help! To make matters worse,I had to be at work in Nashville in less than two hours and I was two hours away. My mother frequently tells me that I am a woman and that I should not travel alone. Boy, this time she was right! The tow truck came and took me to Midas. He said that it was female owned and that the owner, Angela Scalla- Johnson would really take care of me. Her technicians gave me their professional opinion on my car needs and told me that the repair could not be completed that day since it was Saturday and near closing time. Mrs. Angela took me under her wing and personally shuttled me to the greyhound station so that I could catch the next bus. I have never felt so relieved. I did make it to work in Nashville, a little late, but I made it! Midas on S. Market took care of my car and they took care of ME! I would recommend these great people time and time again, especially if you are a lady that needs help! They will take the worry out of getting your care taken care of right! Went there to get my brakes fixed, they quoted me $925 plus to fix it and listed a whole laundry list of things off that apparently were broken, when I asked for specifics there was a lot of mumbling and unhelpfulness. I got a weird vibe from the whole thing and decided to take my car elsewhere, got it fixed for $40 and was told that a lot of the things they said were not true. Stopped in this location yesterday for a flat tire. In from out of town and had my family in the car with me. Very accommodating and gracious staff. Angie at the front was so polite, mechanic stopped to help us out and they had us in and out in no time, fixed and ready to head down the road. Even offered my daughter some paper and pens to color with while we waited. I'm so appreciative of the polite, customer focused attitude. It was just a flat tire but with a wife and two kids it was naturally stressful - I can't appreciate the level of care they provided enough. I recently experienced car problems with my 2004 Honda. It was making grinding and squeaking noises. I'm new to the area and didn't know where to take it, so I asked a co-worker for help. She said to take it to the Midas downtown to Angie. I took it during my lunch break hoping it wouldn't take long to fix. When I got there, they were very busy. I spoke to the woman behind the desk (Angie) and told her I only had an hour for lunch. She said it would be 30-40 minutes before they could get my car in. She asked if I could wait that long so the mechanic could find out what was wrong and show me the problems. Once my car was in the garage the mechanic called me out and showed me where the noise was coming from. He showed me the brake pads that were worn out and explained to me why the car was making noises. I never knew that squeaking breaks meant the pads may need replaced. I also had to replace the rotors; that was the grinding thing. Angie then gave me an estimate of how much it would cost to fix it. I told her I was out of time and needed to get back to work. She offered to give me a ride to work while they fixed the car. She said it would be done before 5 o'clock and that she would pick me up when finished. My car was done 2 hours later, but I couldn't leave work. Angie said they close at 5 and to call her when I was ready to be picked up. I called her before 5 and told her I wouldn't be finished before they closed. She said I could leave the car there for the night and they would put it in the garage, or she would wait for me if it wouldn't be too long. Since I needed my car I asked if she would wait for me. Before getting off the phone she told me that the Midas website has coupons. That saved me $30. The service and kindness I received from them was great.
