I had a diagnostics check done on my car here because I needed to sell it and needed to go somewhere that could take me on short notice. What they told me was that I had $420 for parts/labor on my car, not including the fact that my trunk latch needed to be replaced and that alone would cost over $225 not including the labor. Feeling pretty dejected I looked online for the trunk part, and found a bunch for only $50. Also, as I was showing my car to people they informed me that the safety lock on my latch was a little worn but as long as I switched it it would be fine--which I tried and it was totally true! So then I called around about my other repairs and was quoted a price $200 LESS THAN what they quoted me! Moral of the story, do not trust a mechanic (AKA MIDAS) who tries to sell you a part you don't need and attempts ripping you off without blinking an eye. A mechanic I have come to trust is L&M Motors. They have always given me a fair price and are honest about estimates. What more can I ask for? Just whatever you do, don't choose Midas. read more

Midas, Never again. Since September 2014 through July 2015 I have been at your 1255 S Bragaw, Anchorage, AK 99508 location 5 times for various issues.I am well over 2 weeks' worth of my time and $3,250.45 of my money wasted into your company/location with little to nothing to show for it. 9/13/14: My driveway has a steep incline. I noticed a slow drip from the base of the transmission so I schedule an appointment with Midas and took it in. Several days and $972.75 later they said the rear output shaft seal needed to be reseated. To this day the transmission still has a slow drip. I back backwards in my driveway to prevent this. 6/02/15: I get a coupon in the mall for $25 off brake pad replacement as well as a free brake system inspection. So I schedule an appointment and take it in. All I want done is the rear brakes. Over the phone the man quoted me $250 per axle not including coupons. They insist that I must see the vehicle because there is a lot going on. I go in to find my vehicle up on their lift. At this time they proceed to tell me they can't simply change the pads. First they mention the rotors are rusty. They then proceed to tell me they need to change the both brake lines up front, the rotors and pads up there as well, and then under the hood they claim they need to change out the Hydro booster and the and the proportioning valve. I briefly mention to the guy while under the vehicle about the slow drop from the transmission still from my original visit back in September. His advice on that issue was if parking backwards was working just keep doing that. As for the brakes they stress upon me that it is unsafe and they are surprised I even drove it here. They man verbally quotes me around $2,500 for all the work. I asked how much to just make it safe? So brake lines, the hydro booster, and the valve? He says "plus or minus $50 on $1,500." Over a week goes by and they don't have it done. Every time I call they are waiting for a part, they don't know why the part isn't here. It was next day aired here. The part is lost we have to reorder it. I call and ask when can I pick up my vehicle and the man on the phone tells me my quote is all messed up. He doesn't understand what's going on. He then asks what I was quoted so I told him, "The guy said plus or minus $50 on $1,500". The man on the phone goes, "whoa! Yeah this quote is all kinds of messed up. Yeah I'll get it taken care of for you." I get home and over the course of the next few weekends I eventually make time and I change the brake pads (the original reason I came in that visit) myself. While I'm working on my car I notice that there's a bracket on the front passenger side for the new brake line. The bracket isn't attached to another so it's just hanging there, waiting to be crushed between my struts and potentially damage my brand new $1,500 brake lines. At some point in the vehicle's life span the bolt holding on the original bracket broke up and the remaining broken bolt rusted into place.When they installed the new bracket, they should have attached it. They should have drilled out and tapped that to safely and correctly secure that bracket when they installed my $1,500 new brake line. Instead of leaving it there to hang. Worried I attached it with some zip ties planning to call them out on it later. 7/24/15: I have Friday 7/23/15 off. I call Midas about my appointment the next day and ask if it would be helpful if I brought the vehicle in for my appointment early. I figure if they have time, they'll see it sooner and if not at least first thing at 8 a.m. when my appointment is scheduled they'll have it to start. Guy says they might have time to see it that day so go ahead and bring it down. When I come down the guy types in my name, takes my keys and then says "so what are we doing for you?" a statement that gives me little faith that they'll do the right work. I proceed to tell him front brake pads and the bracket on the front. He says no problem. After receiving a call 7/24/15 about 1 p.m. that my vehicle was ready I went in. In short, I was showing up prepared and waiting for them to disappoint me. And I got what I wanted. First thing the guy hits me with is $411.61 bill. I ask what for and he says they did the brakes. Pads, rotors, lube and install, everything. He claimed again the rotors were far too rusty to be ever be used again. I know full well the rust on those rotors are for an area of the rotor the pads don't physically touch. I proceed to tell him I did not authorize getting rotors done. After trying to argue with me for a second that it had to be done, he changes his tune to apologizes he thought that was all worked out in advance. Finally I ask about the infamous bracket. To which he tells me no, they did not attach the bracket.They didn't want to take the time. He claims they would have had to tear about my whole front end to reach it and it was just too time consuming. I have nothing left to say to Midas. read more

Definately call around in this city and get price quotes before getting work done on your vehicle, and I wouldn't even bother calling this place. They wanted to charge me $250 more than the NAPA place down the street to have my alternator replaced...that's a pretty big price difference and from what I keep hearing about their reputation not worth the price. read more

Customer service is 0. I came in for tire change, which was scheduled for a next day pickup. After arriving at said time , I noticed the car moved, and the tires affixed. I thought the processing would go quick , I ended up waiting for 45 for an action that took a min. read more

Recently, I brought a vehicle into this shop for a minor repair. After looking at the vehicle Midas on South Bragaw indicated that the repair would cost over $1000. They subsequently returned the vehicle and charged a $49 inspection fee after I requested that they not proceed with the work. The following day I took the same vehicle into a nearby shop which preformed the work for a total of $39. I can't help but try and dissuade others from using this shop. Perhaps they are out of their element on work other than oil changes or brake pads. Customer service was fine, but I would advise others that there are potentially other issues to be aware of when bringing your vehicle in for service at this shop. read more

had a lot of work done oil change, alignment & etc paid almost $800 & had to take it back in because steering wheel was off, car shook at 45mph & car still makes a rattling noise & to top it off couple hrs after bring my car home, the 2nd time, the check engine Lgts. is on now & my remote start will not start the car, Lgts. come on but nothing happens. I'm not even going to bother to take it back its just inconvenience me! Not worth the hassle for it to probably come back again w/another problem read more
