I haven't been to Midam in a while but my friend and I wanted some Korean stew and we saw that they had quite a few options. I got the beef brisket soybean soup and it was so warming and cozy. It was served boiling so I definitely recommend waiting for it to cool down (we got to have some appetizers while we waited, which were kimchi, braised potatoes, and a macaroni salad). I think I would come back to try their other stews since I was impressed by the one I had!
Came here for lunch after my friend and I did a big summer bike ride from East Van to Wreck Beach! We were in dire need of something cool and refreshing. Thankfully, Midam Cafe had cold noodles on their menu. I admit that I haven't had a lot of cold Korean noodle dishes, but this one really hit the spot for me. The broth was flavourful yet very light, and the amount of ice/slush was a good balance for me (I don't like very cold things). The meat was delicious and tender, and I only wish there were more slices added! The egg and cucumber were a nice touch. As for the banchan, my favourite was the potato and the kimchi. The kimchi was really delicious to me that day haha. Can't wait to come back and try other things!
Decent, standard Korean food at least as judged by the veggie item I tried. I stopped in after having seen their vegetarian section of the menu online. Almost all items have egg in them, so, to be vegan, you have to remove that; their kimchi has fish in it, so avoid that if you're vegan. I got the vegetarian bibimbap ($16.50) -- I actually tried to order the tofu & mushroom bibimbap but the server mis-heard me and brought the former, then charged me $3 when I asked to add tofu. The dish came out in about 10-15 mins in a stone bowl, which nicely crispified the rice, with spinach, bean sprouts, carrots, zucchini and radish, and a side of gochujang sauce. All meals come with refillable side dishes of pickled radish, seaweed, and kimchi (which they changed to garlic potato for me, which was nice). Pretty standard bowl really with nothing to set it apart. Not a bad spot, but it pretty much failed to leave much an impression. Competent Korean food.
A great atmosphere! Very yummy Korean cuisine! First time here and will definitely be back. There is a cohesive basketball theme going on with the decor, but the music was Korean and easy to listen to. There are both high tops and standard tables - our party of 5 got seated at a high top. We went around 9pm and there was no wait-time; the space was pretty empty aside from two other groups. There were many options on the food menu and drink menu, as well as a separate cocktail menu. We ordered the Strawberry Yo-Yo and the Mango-Hoe and they were DELICIOUS! Both cocktails had ginger ale in them and were a nice, fruity pairing with the meal. The server was very friendly and attentive, checking in with us multiple times to inquire about ordering before their kitchen closed. There's a button on the table that you can press for additional service - there is a loud bell sound that goes off when the button is pressed. The food came out hot and fresh, and was very filling. A great dinner option!

The inside is heavy on the basketball theme; basketball net, jerseys and hats. Service was okay but they disappear once you get your food. At least they drop off a large pitcher of water for the table. The menu consists of appetizer, signature, soup, noodles, soul food of Seoul, KFC, rice bowl, vegetarian, pasta and dessert. They also offer a hansang lunch special ($23.00/set, limit of 15 sets per day) from 11:30am to 3:00pm. Trip #1 - Banchan - kimchi, sliced fish cakes and seaweed. Kimchi was the best of the three; fresh and crunchy. - Kimchi bacon yaki udon (#23) ($14.00) - my favourite dish of the night. The udon had a chewy bite. Bacon and kimchi were tasty but didn't overwhelm the dish. - BBQ pork bulgogi stone pot bibimbap (#39) ($16.00) - bibimbap was light on the gochujang sauce but the BBQ pork was flavourful. - Winner winner chicken dinner ($43.00) - all the fried items were excellent. The hotpot itself was standard. A lot of ttekboki (lacked bounce and clumpy) but the fish cakes were better. Trip #2 - Sapporo ($6.00) - Citron makgeolli ($9.00 for 500mL) - a light, slightly sweet citrus note. - Banchan - glazed potato, cubed radish and seaweed. - Bulgogi set with spicy kimchi pork tofu soup ($23.00) - lunch set was decent. Bulgogi was tender and the tofu soup had plenty of tofu (but not much depth/heat to the broth). - Honey mustard fried chicken (#34) ($16.00 half) - everyone enjoyed the honey mustard KFC over the sweet and spicy. - Sweet & spicy fried chicken (#36) ($16.00 half) - nothing memorable about the sauce. - BBQ pork bulgogi stone pot bibimbap (#39) ($16.00) - rice didn't get crispy at the bottom and needed more sauce. - Vegetarian truffle japchae (#48) ($22.00) - my favourite dish that we ordered. Good variety of vegetables and the truffle added a nice subtle note. Decent eats at MC but slightly overpriced for what you get. 3.5 stars.
Great place for comfort food Korean style. They've kept the NBA theme decorations from their old richmond location. Lunch set was substantial enough for two to share. Will be back for their bibimbap and special dishes.
One-line review: This was pretty good. We ordered: - Bibimbap stone bowl - half an order of the Korean sweet and spicy fried chicken - BBQ spicy pork sirloin The food was good, if not exactly what we were expecting. The stone pot, which keeps the food hot and makes the rice 'crusty,' was wonderful. The fried chicken remained crunchy under the sweet sauce drizzled over the top; word to the wise: This is NOT spicy. But it was not sicky sweet and pleasant enough to the taste. The BBQ spicy pork was the biggest surprise. It was saucier than we expected; we thought it would be drier. Again, this was not spicy -- a bit of a letdown for us -- but still well-executed for what it was. Portions were fair; we did take a little bit home. I don't often comment on the decor of a place, but this was memorable. The whole place is decked out in a basketball theme, with jerseys, basketballs, shoes, a basketball map, and a tribute to Kobe Bryant, of all people. That was a fun surprise. Service was friendly and competent. We parked for free in the neighbourhood -- always preferable to paying. Bottom line: This merits a return trip.
Delicious Korean comfort food to eat at the end of a long day. Have been here on a couple of occasions and was not disappointed. My only critique is the fried chicken is a bit on the smaller side portion-wise for its price, but still delicious. The platter (we got it with bulgogi) was the highlight of all things I've ordered here and was large enough to share between 3 people.
I visited Midam Cafe last week and I absolutely LOVE the experience. Good service. Will absolutely go there again. 1. BBQ Squid and Pork Belly 10/10 My favourite dish of the meal. Pork belly is PERFECT! It melts in your mouth and it's super flavourful. Squid is delicious and there are a few rice cakes as well. I love the spice. HIGHKY RECOMMENDED! 2. Midam Platter With bulgoki 8/10 Go watch my last reel. You will be drooling for it. They have cheese, fried egg with rice, udon, bulgoki and corn. You have the option to choose pork sirloin or bbq squid and pork belly. It's so satisfying to mix together. I also love the Burnt Rice at the bottom. I would say this portion is enough for 2-3 people. I find this platter on the sweeter side which I don't prefer. I would rather have a spicy dish but it's awesome to order this with your friends. 3. Tiramisu Shaved Ice 10/10 Love the tiramisu. The cake and ice cream have a strong coffee flavour. Shaved ice is so FLUFFY!! The best ones I've ever had so far!! I wanna try other flavours as well.
(3.5/5) Split the Rosé Pasta with Fried Chicken ($29) and the Green Tea Mochi Toast ($14) with a friend. The pasta came with 8 pieces of boneless chicken and fries (sort of a fusion between Korean, American, and Italian). Debating if everything goes well together as it tasted exactly how it is described/you expect it (pasta with fried chicken and fries). However, it was more filling than we expected. There was also a subtle hint of spiciness that gave the meal a nice kick (but nothing major). As for dessert, it tasted like french toast. The mochi was not the best; it was very sticky and too soft. The highlight of the whole meal was probably them pouring matcha sauce in front of us and watching it sizzle away on the hot skillet. Overall, the toast wasn't very sweet but still does the job satisfying your sweet tooth. Wouldn't order it again as $14 is also pricey for toast. The innovation is there but I think both their dishes hold greater potential by being improved.
Came here for dessert and it was fabulous! Tried the Oreo dessert and the strawberry shortcake ice. So so so good.

Dubai chocolate ceorrle was tasty and I enjoyed the different textures and flavours! The mango shaved ice was a little lack luster though as it wasn't very flavourful or sweet. Pretty small portion for a $20 dessert with bigger ones at other spots... read more

We got take out from Midam Cafe and would have to say the food was okay. I wished there was more meat in my marinated beef bowl and the squid and pork belly was a bit too spicy for me. I think this place would be a better place for dine in rather than take out as food is best eaten fresh. read more

(3.5 )Pretty standard Korean food but has some creative options I haven't seen anywhere else. We ordered their rice cake pot set that comes with standard rice cakes and fish cakes, in spicy sauce, with a set of fried foods to dip into the sauce. Service was good but the server doesn't seem to know the menu/food that well and had to ask the owner (I assume, in the kitchen) a lot. Restaurant was casual vibes. read more

First impressions will already be the basketball theme design of the restaurant. A mixture of korean and other asian foods to choose from from. We had the stir fried spicy chicken which is very saucy and tasty. Plenty of drinks and desserts as well, we had the green tea waffle with ice cream which i think taste like any regular waffle and ice cream. Make sure to call before heading as it was always full. Prefer the branch they had at Richmond which closed. read more
Midam Cafe currently has a free delivery deal if you order $30+ dollars on SkiptheDishes. This review is based on the take-out order. I ordered the following dishes: 1) Sweet and Spicy Korean Fried Chicken - (4/5) The flavor was definitely sweet but not spicy. What impressed me was that in addition to the chicken being juicy and tender on the inside, the chicken skin maintained the crispiness even though I ordered this via take-out. In addition to the boneless fried chicken, there were a few pieces of sliced potatoes as well. The potatoes were flavorless, but provided a nice balance to the sweetness of the chicken. 2) Rose Pasta with Fresh Pork Belly - (4/5) My first impression was that the portion size is respectable. Typically, when you order fusion noodles from Asian restaurants, the portion size is usually missed out on due to the novelty. The pasta sauce is creamy and filling. However, the pork belly had no flavor (no salt, no pepper, no soy, etc.). I see a lot more potential in improving the pork belly, however, the portion size and delicious pasta sauce are winners. Overall, I would order from Midam Cafe again and try some of their other items. read more
One of the clubs I was in booked the entire place for a really affordable price! The staff was so accommodating and everything was so good. They even gave us a lot of service like free bingsoo and fries. We booked the entire restaurant from 10pm-2am and ordered A LOT of drinks and food and the total came out to about 1.4k which was totally justifiable given the number of soju bottles we ordered and our 50 person party. When I went again just to eat food, I really enjoyed my experience! The food is catered towards non-Koreans given that a lot of their menu is much more non-traditional foods, but I didn't mind. I actually think that this location is much better than their original location in Burquitlam, which is saying a lot! Also it is really convenient to eat a meal here and also eat dessert here instead of hopping around from place to place. Also great for UBC students because it is really close and convenient to travel! read more

I'm a sucker for Korean food, so naturally I had to try Midam Cafe in Vancouver when it opened in December. Since the soft opening, I've been so many times that even the manager recognizes me. Midam does Korean comfort food really well- especially the soups and fried chicken. If you head over for lunch, I recommend getting the lunch set. You get the choice of a hot soup (kimchi/ seafood/ sesame etc), rice, side dishes, and choice of a meat dish for only $16. It's quite the value deal, and enough food to share with a friend along with the order of an appetizer. Another dish I love is the spicy hotpot. I've tried both "Beginner's Luck" and "Winner Winner Chicken Dinner", and they are both delicious and filling (however, on the spicier side). As much as I love the food at Midam, I had to give only 4 stars for inexperienced servers and a bit of an unwelcoming exterior. read more
I love this place! Basketball themed all over (even their wifi password!). The servers were super attentive and even helped us out at one point when our baby was crying and food needed to be stirred. We ordered the UFO with spicy chicken and steamed dumplings half and half. The UFO looked small when it came to the table and onto the cooktop, but it is a huge portion. Feeds 2 comfortably. We had plenty of leftovers. The chicken was so good and you can't beat dipping it in melted cheese! The dumplings were great too. 4 pork and 4 kimchi. My wife liked the pork better but I was into the kimchi! I've heard their north road location is the same so I I'll probably check that out next as it's was closer to home! read more
Went during there soft opening, they have similar basketball decor to their coquitlam branch. Servers are inexperienced but decent. I would give this location another try! Must get grilled dessert rice cakes. Ambience: 3.5/5 Basketball decor, chill and fun vibe. Medium noise level, slightly chilly room though. The washrooms have really low toilets but really high paper towel dispensers. Food: 4/5 Plating was eye-appealing, flavour was body-full and balanced. The seafood sundubu was tasty and filled with seafood. Desserts here are the real star along with the plating it was yummy. Getting the grilled dessert rice cake was a perfect idea for anytime of the week, fantastic mouth-feel. Serving: 3.5-4/5 We accidentally got charged for a dish we never order and that one of the meals we ordered never got put in till we asked about it half way through everyone else's meal. Albeit that said they refunded me my money for the item and they apologized sincerely. They checked on us, gave us water and was nice. Worth: 3.5-4/5 I think they did great with the experience they had. I would come try it again, the only downside I believe for me was just getting charged something we never ordered and wouldn't have notice if I didn't double check bills even after paying. My take away is that this place most def deserves a second chance cause you can see the awesome potential read more

We have eaten here 3 times now, everything we have tried has been really good. The Hansang Lunch Special ($16 currently to help promote the opening) it's a really good value and very huge, never able to finish it all. Dumplings are super good, as is the lightly fried spicy rice cakes. Staff is super nice, food comes out fast, prices are decent. They had a very good IPA, I think it was Parkside $12/pitcher very good, I always appreciate it when restaurants have decent beer. The over the top item here is their desserts, this is what they are known for, need to save room. I had the Strawberry Shortcake Shaved Ice, it was so good, and huge, 2-4 can easily share it depending on how much dessert you like, and how full you are. I need to come with more people so I can try more things! read more

I liked the Beef Bimbimbap Yuki Udon the best since I don't really eat spicy food (but always willing to try) AND the beef in it is so juicy and very flavourful! The Spicy Chicken UFO Plate was pretty good too (we just took a very long time taking pictures that our cheese melted ) but I'll probably get it again next time. For the strawberry Toast, I love how the plate everything together. The fruits were really fresh and really yummy. Every single thing in this plate was perfectly paired. The manger was very nice to us to let us taste this. I don't really eat desserts in Korean places cause I eat so much of the main entree but this dessert is goodddd (or I'm just biased because it's strawberries but either way, it's good) read more
This is a good place, with good vibes. They have basketball interior designs, and super delicious Korean fusion dishes. Their menu is huge and ranges from various things like hotpot, to KFC, to different pasta and dishes. [PROTIP- make a reservation online, they do not accept walk ins - even if they are empty make a reservation or they won't take you in] - The restaurant was completely empty, we sat there for a solid hour and a half, and we were the only table. They turned around 4-6 tables of walk in customers as they didn't have reservations. * Budae hotpot ($31) - this was so small, it's such a rip off! Consisted of 1 instant ramen, a small handful of enoki mushrooms, sausage, and spam, veggies, tofu, with a slice of processed cheese. The soup base was ok, I expected it to be more flavourful, but it was a bit watered down. The slight kick was there but there wasn't an exact pungent goodness taste to the dish. I don't recommend this dish as it's so not worth the price. By hotpot I expected it to be bigger than it was. * Truffle japchae ($18) this was delicious, there is a hint of truffle taste to the dish which really Compliments the dish itself. The presentation were fantastic and the taste was on point! I wish there was more truffle taste in the dish! * Sizzling pork belly ($25) this was delicious, the pork belly has already been sliced for you, and comes with a bunch of components like kimchi, onion, sauces, tofu,and egg. I did wish the pork belly was more tender and melted in my mouth, thought the meat was harder and chewy which defeats the purpose of pork belly which is suppose to melt in your mouth. I also wish it came within lettuce so we can create a wrap. * KFC - half ($13) I'm obsessed with their KFC here! It's super crispy and juicy and tender! It also comes with ricecakes which is so good! Comes with a Thai sauce and pickled radish my only regret was not ordering it in a full order! * Rose pasta pork belly ($17) this was super delicious. Creamy, and tasty! Mix of tomato and cream base which was so good! The noodles were cooked perfectly! 100% would get again. * 8/10 - KFC is so good and the pasta oooof. 100% recommend. Don't get the hotpot though it's so small not worth it. * 6/10 - only reason is because the hotpot was not worth even $12 let along $31. Great Korean cafe in Kitsilano. The service was polite and helpful. I asked the waitress for the ingredients of the rose pasta and possibility to replace beef in the jap chae with pork. She asked the kitchen which accommodated my request. Portion was value for money and taste was delicious. A surprisingly nice touch is the basketball decor of the cafe. I love the basketball jerseys and vintage photos. The lunch deal on the menu looks enticing. I'll definitely be back and highly recommend it to others. read more
