Posting this review again because it was flagged and taken down? Me and my friend went on Wednesday 1/27/23 at 11:30 AM to Mid Kitchen in Evanston & I ordered a vegan blt while she ordered a scrambler. The food took over 50 mins to come and it wasn't tasty or warm. It was a small place so I'm a little surprised that they took this long to attend to us. The waiter unfortunately never checked on us & I had to call another waiter to give us the check. I also saw a lot of people waiting for a table but no one going up to them as well. this place is very small, but their business is so good. For good reason. The food was very satisfying for a healthy and yummy brunch. The service was amazing too! I am surprised that there aren't that many Northwestern kids raving about this place because it should definitely appear on the brunch story posts more!! A clear warning sign for a restaurant - the staff are more interested in chit chatting with each other than paying attention to clientele. They are there to spend time and earn the pay, customers are a distraction for them. Well, my gut feeling was correct - the protein bawl Ive ordered was.. microwaved. I came here with my mom yesterday and the food was so good! The restaurant has a nice atmosphere and is clean with good service. My mom had the chicken satay wrap (YUM) and I had the French toast with a side of scrambled eggs. The French toast was so good and the eggs were light and fluffy. We loved the chicken wrap. Our only complaint is that they don't stay open for dinner because we would have bought more food to bring on our flight home! read more

This was a gem of a restaurant in terms of brunch food. We shared the classic French toast and the crab cakes Benedict. We both agreed that we would definitely get both upon our return. Another friend we are with got the chicken and waffles and raved about it. Didn't give this a 5 star though as the service was a little slow (took us about 10 minutes after being seated to get waters and a menu). Otherwise service was friendly and food was delicious!! I'd leave 0 or negative star ratings, but unfortunately this app doesn't have that feature. With that said lets move on to the review, which I'm my opinion is a complete waste of anyone's time for this place, but I felt compelled in this case to write something. 1) Completely dirty. Tables aren't properly wiped down. 2) Dirty floors. Normally, I'd not comment about this, but the wait staff knew it was dirty, but never bother to even sweep and instead decided to gossip and check their phones behind the counter. 3) Fruit flies EVERYWHERE! 4) Multi customers had to get up to all their server for basic items that should have been at their table from the beginning. 5) Servers distracted by their cell phones. read more

Cute hidden gem! Their Classic Benny and Red Bowl hit the spot. I recommend getting peanut butter with the fruit smoothie-like bowl, it was lovely. Very cute place! The bowl was delicious wish it was topped with more berries and granolas. Shakushuka was also yummy I would definitely recommend asking for more eggs over shakshuka otherwise it's a bit too tomatoey , and more bread to eat it with you only get once slice to eat that whole plate. The pleasure for today was Mid Kitchen in Evanston. I went here today because Yelp said it was New and Hot! I did think it was Hot as I'm trendy but certainly a little warm inside this morning.  I read a few reviews with a few complaints about service not the food. I had no problem with either. I talked to the manager. He said they had only been opened a month. Only a month?? Well of course there would be some problems because they were still working things out after their opening but nothing that was horrible from my point of view. The food was pretty good. I ordered 4 things total. I had the Chicken & Waffle,  Classic Pancakes,  Jasmine Tea and a order of pork sausage.  First the Chicken and Waffle.  It was ok. A boneless pretty thick chicken breast over a Waffle already with syrup. If I could suggest a few changes the first would be to NOT put syrup on a person Waffle. To me this is a personal thing. Some like none to a lot of syrup. I think this place might be getting orders back if they continue this path. What would be better is providing one syrup and ASKING if more is needed. I needed and got more syrup but I'm an easy less picky customer. The next would be season the chicken a little more. It is the savory & sweet combination that makes this dish work wherever it is made. The chicken had a great crunchy coat but no salt, no savor! Not bad but certainly could be better.  The pancake were interesting.  I expected a traditional stack. I got 5 cakes about the size of saucer plate in diameter. Now this is not a complaint it actually was a pleasant surprise because I can individualize each cake to how I want it. There was no butter served with this although I felt it should have been so that's something for them to think about if they are not doing so or if it was just an oversight while I was there. I started eating them and they were pretty good A my intention was to just eat one and save the rest for later but I ended up eating all but 1 and a portion of another pancake. I just got full! Between the chicken and waffles most of the pancakes I eat and the delightful jasmine tea that I turn from hot into cold I filled up pretty good. I did miss that they had a nice selection of Teas at the counter. Had I known that they had some different types of Teas I would have ordered something different then Jasmine. When I went to the counter I noticed they had a white strawberry tea. I was disappointed I didn't know about that cuz I would have definitely tried it. Oh well maybe something to look forward to next time because there will be a next time. As I was enjoying my food the couple next to me was enjoying theirs as well and then ordered some sausage of course I didn't know what it was when I looked at it. I asked him what was it and they told me sausage. Then I asked was it pork sausage and they confirmed it was pork sausage. But it wasn't your normal pork sausage. It was kind of like the sausage you get in a role where you make your own Patty and I like that so I made myself have room for a little sausage patty. You get to with an order and I ended up eating one it was very tasty but it could have used a little bit more sage in the mixture. I suppose they make their own because I was reminded that they make their own fresh chicken breast for the chicken and waffle everyday by my server. It reminded me of when I used to buy the roll of pork sausage and make my own pork patties when I was a kid. Those two would be misshapen and also very tasty. This place is pretty good. It's certainly worthy of returning to to try something else on their menu. The atmosphere is nice, the soft music they play is very pleasant. I look forward to doing that and I would recommend this place to anyone willing to try something else little bit different. read more

When entered restaurant greeted with no smile and no welcoming words. The student staff acted like they had been up all night and did not want to be working. The waffle was dry and lacked flavor. I really like this place! I went on two separate occasions: once on a not-crowded morning and then a more crowded morning. Both times the food was delicious, so you know they're consistent. The waitstaff was helpful and attentive. No complaints! This restaurant is small, so it's not good for big groups and not good for young kids unless you let them know way ahead of time. The decor is cute and aesthetically pleasing. The Shakshuka takes a little while to prepare so just keep that in mind if going with a group/ I recommend trying: 1. It is my first visit here in Mid Kitchen. I was surprised and impressed by its huge menu and its huge range of vegetarian options. All of their staff was nice and professional. They greeted me at the time I entered and guide me to a vacant table. The tables were aligned, clean, and organized. The whole place is clean, bright, and nice. They have plenty of interesting decorations and designs. Perfect spot to catch up with friends and family. Also, study while enjoying the food and the place. Everything on their menu has a reasonable price and they made it to perfection. They have waffles, salads, rice meals, sandwiches, desserts, beverages, and others. I ordered some of their Avocado Bennys, bacon for a side, Steak and eggs, and a drink. Everything I had was flavorful, healthy, and professionally done. They have unique breakfast offers. A fair amount of vegan options and everything was really delicious. Their interior has a great ambiance and the exterior was also nice. It was a pleasure for me to experience this awesome spot. The food was pretty good. Worth trying! They even exceeded my expectations. I would definitely go and visit here again next time. I had the waffles and chicken and the waffles were amazing and the chicken was ok. I also ordered the pancakes on the side and the pancakes which came in 5 were good with maple syrup. They made fresh juices and lemonade which were very tasty and refreshing. The place was small and quaint. Cute for a brunch date. The omelette and and eggs and breakfast foods were average. I'm only rating based on the meal I ordered. I got the green shakshuka which isn't a sauce as much as it's just mashed up spicy peas. I got it with tofu instead of eggs. Idk what the deal is w restaurants offering tofu to meals if they're not going to season it. Tofu is not eggs, you can't just cook it with a dash of salt and it taste fine. This tofu seemed like it was literally taken out the bag, and thrown on the stove. No flavor whatsoever. Bland as it can be. This is pretty standard at most restaurants and I just don't understand. Anyway... I also ordered the vegan bacon which reminded me of a turkey bacon I used to eat as far as texture goes. It wasn't terrible, but needed salt as it had no flavor either. They do give a generous portion though, about 6-7 pieces. They outsource the bacon so FYI it's not homemade. When I ordered over phone the girl told me the breakfasts came with home fries. I got regular fries... I would not recommend this, nor did I eat much of it. This place has been on my to go list, but this meal was terrible. I stopped at mid kitchen a few weeks ago and absolutely love the place. It's not a big place so It was busy when we got there but the waitress I wish I could remember her name but she's blonde she was very accommodating and got us seated and taken care of fast. She made the experience so much fun joking and laughing with us. She even got me to get mimosas which doesn't happen often. I got the chicken and waffle which was amazing! I initially found out about MID kitchen thru a Yelp event I attended for dinner. I had such a wonderful experience that I had to come back for lunch. They use a lot of local ingredients and make everything fresh in house. This time we ordered a traditional shakshuka and Turkish breakfast platter. Both were very good, but hot Turkish bread really stood out for me. I liked it so much that I ordered more of it to go. Downtown Evanston offers a large variety of dining establishments for lunch and MID Kitchen is one of my favorite places. read more
