Overall, everything tasted great, except I felt their sandwich was a bit salty. This isn't fine dining by any means, it's more of a vegan fast food restaurant. I love that they had various vegan and animal rights magazines on the counter for patrons to read. Also, the staff was incredibly helpful and friendly. We learned that this location recently got a soft serve ice cream machine and they can make sundaes. We'll have to try that another time!

Bigger than expected to be honest. It's got a lot of room for banquets and parties. There's quite a few tables. A lot of things to like about it. The prices are one thing not to like though. It's about $17 for the cheapest entrees. Many of these are a lot more. I got the Blind Faith Burger. Pretty typical looking. This comes with a choice of a side. She had the Gardein Chicken Sandwich, which is plant based except for the mayonnaise on it. The rest of the menu includes bakery items like cookies and pastries. For sure this is one of the pioneers of vegetarian places around the area. It's closed Mondays. They accept reservations.

Thank goodness, I had bbq sauce. But I tried the tips without sauce and they were seasoned well. I put on some Sweet Baby Rays on them and dang it was good. The tips were tender and a lot of meat. The chicken was so good that I wish I would have gotten more. It was seasoned and crunchy. The Cole slaw was okay and the red beans and rice was good, just which it had a little more pot liquor. I would definitely go back. Also the prices that they have online is really outdated.

Absolutely…read more I run an organization called Stomping Grounds Literary Arts Initiative, where we teach visual arts, creative writing, and audio production inside juvenile detention centers. We're currently active in three Illinois Youth Centers--Chicago, Warrenville, and St. Charles--as well as at the Cook County Juvenile Detention Center. I often interview my students about their creative work, and recently I met up with one of them to talk about a powerful piece he created for our Locked Achievements gallery show. During our conversation, he mentioned he'd been gaining work experience at Curt's Café--so naturally, I had to see it for myself. Tucked in the heart of Evanston, Curt's Café is warm, welcoming, and beautifully intentional. As soon as I walked in, I spotted not just one but two of my students working behind the counter. That moment alone made my day. The café has a comforting vibe and a menu that caters to everyone--even someone like me on a cleanse. I grabbed a vegan dish featuring sweet potatoes and kale, and it hit all the right spots. Clean, hearty, and full of flavor. What makes this place even more special is the mission: Curt's Café is dedicated to giving young people a second chance through employment, life skills training, and mentorship. They're doing real, restorative work--and it shows. I even found out they're hosting an art showcase on May 3rd, and there's a chance some of our students' pieces from Locked Achievements will be featured in their gallery space. It has that simple, comfortable, neighborhood feel that is getting harder to find. Nothing pretentious, nothing overcomplicated, just good food, good service, and a place where you can relax and feel at home. Sher-Main Grill feels like that go-to local diner when you are hungry and just want to sit down, enjoy a good meal, and leave satisfied. It is reminiscent of a time when places like this were part of the community, and I really appreciate that. It is like being home.
