This store has been around for years and I've been a customer thru all its store configurations over time. Its a techie wonderland in a retail box location for various things. If I need something of a part or item and don't want to wait for shipping they're pretty good. Staff can be really good most days now. In the past not so much. The good: if you know your tech and want to find it, they tend to have it here. Their inland house brand items have held up over the years if you want the functionality without the shine so to speak. Convenience is king here, sales can be really good too btw. Clearance items open box/returns if you know what to look for is another option (not for everyone of course). Niche stuff you can find not easily in another store. Location here good, the one in Pomonok Queens ok too btw, not doing a seperate review just a mention. Meh: Pricing can be abit higher than online waiting and free shipping vs some competitors, usually like $10bucks higher (as a guide it maybe more). I can't wait somedays so this isn't a deal breaker per se. But vs Bestbuy that same $10bucks means I go down the block. Returns here are also a dicey proposal although that is rare for me. Let's call it less pleasant than some other stores. Sometimes staff feels disengaged or pushy to put their sticker on stuff. So in summary not perfect, has its moments of shine and some odd ball things that I know other reviewers who hit it hard aren't necessarily off on. This place is my favorite "toy and candy store". I can't walk in there without having to walk the aisles. I'm very tech savvy and it's great to go where the tech is and the staff shares one of my passions. I went there today to buy paper reams at the ridiculously low price of $1.79 a ream. But I also had an issue with my Dell laptop which showed a Bios error in my two year old ac charging cable. Path the tech info manager took care of immediately. I needed a monitor to use with the surveillance cameras in my home. There was a heavy set, Caucasian, male salesperson with the most repulsive disposition I have ever encountered. He was wearing a pink, button down shirt and was relatively bald. I would have loved to have bypassed the above description, BUT he was NOT wearing a name tag. Mr. Pink Shirt was disengaged throughout this entire experience. To wit,most of his responses were comprised of one-word sentences. His tone was condescending and left much the be desired. When I arrived home and took the monitor out of the car, I noticed that the box looked as if it had previously been opened. Once my cameras are hooked up, we will determine if the monitor will be returned. There is one thing for sure, I am NEVER patronizing your store again. read more

Settle in because this is a doozy. About six weeks ago, I had dropped my computer by accident and cracked the screen, so it didn't display anything but worked fine when connected to a monitor. Kept it with me for about two weeks before bringing it to Micro Center to get an estimate. There were a grand total of eight people there waiting for service and it took two hours to be seen by someone (!). In the end, they offered to replace the screen and bezel - which is what we expected - and said they'd get back to us about the price. We left it with them, and they called us back and gave us a reasonable offer. We took it. Fine and dandy. Two weeks later we get a call saying the part was the wrong one. Mistakes happen, and it was probably not their fault. We agree to wait on the correct part. Whatever. Another few days pass, and another wrong part arrives. Annoying, but what can we do about it? Two more weeks pass. We get another call saying they received the right part and it should be ready soon. Great! But today, we got a voicemail telling us the motherboard was non-functional and needed replacing, and cables had melted inside the computer, and we'd need to transfer our data. We decided to reverse repairs, take back the computer, and probably get it replaced entirely. Yeah, motherboards occasionally just give out, and yeah, I could have damaged it when I dropped it, but the motherboard and what display hadn't been damaged worked for the two weeks I had it and the diagnostics Micro Center ran on it checked out when we originally gave it to them. But after a month in their care, it needs replacing. Basically, we gave them a mostly working computer and got one that is damaged even more badly than when we gave it to them. So that, combined with the two-hour wait to even get it glanced at, combined with the half-hour spent confirming the display was broken, combined with the four-week wait...even though most of it probably was not their fault, it kinda totaled into a cruddy experience. The store itself is good, though; just maybe don't use their service center. read more

This is a computer geek's paradise. I love coming to this place. Man they have everything you need. I can browse around for hours (I'd shop around for hours too if I had the moolah). Their prices are also very good. The cost of their CPUs, video cards and memory actually rival online prices such as newegg.com. They also have a pretty big Apple and gaming section. In January, 2020 I purchased an HP laptop from Microcenter in Downers Grove which worked fine until November, 2020. I took it to Microcenter to be repaired. They were supposed to call me for my password which they never did. I did not hear from them for a couple of weeks. When I called, they told me the hard drive had died, and they were waiting for one to be delivered. I waited a couple more weeks, and still no hard drive. They claimed that due to covid-19 HP was behind in making new harddrives. They finally got a "new" harddrive put in, but it was extremely sluggish. By this time, it was the end of December, and the warranty would run out in January. I really think it was planned that way. I am not pleased with Microcenter, and I would not recommend this company to anyone. read more

I had a horrible experience at Westbury Micro Center. I went there to buy a inexpensive laptop to install all my old widows computer games on. When I got to the laptop section I was assisted by a person who literally made disparaging comments about my request and acted like what I asked for was stupid. JLee has a lot to learn about customer service and needs to learn how to effectively listen to persons request and help them. The OEM charger for my Lenovo T450S Thinkpad died yesterday. A Google-search recommended your store but I had never been there before although it was within reasonable driving distance (7 miles). I did a search on your website (which is very professional I might add) for 'typical 65W--90W chargers' and chose one that was suitable, yet flexible in charger points, in case the wife's laptop also developed a problem (gotta think ahead sometimes!) The parking lot was not too full and made parking (and egress by Eisenhower park) very easy. With my webpage-product printouts, in hand, I walked around the store looking for 'electrical accessories'. An associate, spotting my printouts and laptop under my armpit, inquired as to what I was looking for and guided me to aisle 8 as there had been a product/store re-design recently. I found what I was looking for among a very comprehensive selection. However, having traveled this far I not only wanted to make sure the connector (yellow square) fit but that my laptop actually was charging. I joined a queue for the 'gaming PC's' and was quickly approached by Haiden. I explained that I was definitely going to buy this particular charger but would he mind if he/I opened up the package to connect the unit to an AC source to make absolutely sure the lap 'charged'. Without hesitation, he agreed and proceeded to open/remove the contents. Within a few minutes we had the AC cable 'in', the yellow connector attached, and I had my Lenovo booted up. The screen-icon showed that the charger was connected and, to my relief, it 'kicked in' to show that the laptop (battery) was, indeed, now charging. I thanked Haiden profusely! I then joined the queue and explained to 'Kevin' to just bill me 'as is' (even though the unit was clearly out of its packaging, etc.). He nodded and had me processed in minutes. This was my first time to this store. It is now my go-to store for anything electrical, laptop or PC or smart-phone -based !!! read more

He helped me look for every single item on my list. He even searched online on the inventory page for each item and for example -- it said there was only 1 available in stock for most of my items like the 555 Timer and the Op Amp. Like a moth to a flame, a woman to a coach store, and a geek to electronics. This is my place! This is the department store for geeks! They have everything you can possibly think of! If your building a new rig, they have cases, processors, mother boards, etc,. Old parts, and new parts! They also have all sorts of accessories. They also carry consoles and games and accessories for those as well. They also carry desks, tools, printer ink, toner. I mean the list is very extensive. They always have DYI specials for those that like to build their own computers, such as my self. The staff here is helpful. I also understand the need for a security guard as there are expensive items throughout. But the guard has to understand too that we are customers and should be treated as such. This is my only grudge because the guard does interact with customers. Other wise there deals are great, as well as the items they carry as well. In the words of the terminator "I will be back!" I found and bought just what I was looking for and yet the words, "what a disaster!" Still came out of my mouth as I was leaving. The service at Micro Centre is notoriously horrible and this visit was no different. I don't know what it is about the employees there, something that must be groomed in them to distain helping customers or being polite, but I've experienced this almost a dozen times when I've shopped here. Perfect example, at the register; and keep in mind the fact that I was only buying three small items, they were on the counter, and my money was in hand; cash. The gentleman, and I use the term generously, scanned my three items and then decided to look up something for another employee before taking my money. Then, between taking my $20 bill and returning my $.48 change, found it necessary to check his cell phone from his pocket as if someone this crass could have a friend. And don't even get me started about how Micro Centre is the new radio shack in the fact that you can't purchase $.20 worth of batteries without giving them all your personal information. So then someone who works there walked by me: Me: Excuse me, is this where I wait if I'm picking up a computer I ordered? Inept salesperson: Umm, there? ::points to another line that hasn't moved since I got there:: Me: Oh. Cashier: No he waits here. You're in the right place. I went in with seriously low expectations. I was expecting disinterested sales people who had no idea what they were talking about, a small inventory, and high prices. I found the exact opposite, especially in the BYO section. I will most definitely be back - they beat all of the online pricing I had, they knew a lot about each product and even pulled some parts to demo something we were talking about, and had more products on display that any other place I've been. Not writing a favorable review for Micro Center is like a human being who needs oxygen saying something negative about air. If for whatever reason you use a computer and rely on one at any point in your day to day, this is the place to go. While I understand the Best Buy and Office Staple's of the world I'm turned off by their slick production and sixteen year old "professionals" who try to direct me on what I should buy and why. Realizing they probably have incentive pushing me towards one brand over the other coupled with the fact this kid was probably not born when I first started using a computer doesn't build the sort of confidence I need in speaking to someone about my computer needs. Micro Center seems to employ the kind of people you expect to talk to computers about. They're your unfriendly role playing acolytes who would rather spend time with a data chip then at a football game. They seem to not be the slightest bit interested in anything outside of a computer screen or computer related. I also have taken a specific liking to the decor of the place which is a bit sexier then a hardware junkyard last seen in Terminator Rise of the Machines. There are no over the top production and advertisements like at Best Buy. All I see are boxes and the computers the boxers come in. That's what I want in a computer store. I'm not going there to make friends. I'm going there to get my computer fixed so I can keep speaking to my friends on my own computer and that's where these guys come in. read more

It's really quite sad when a big place such as this has to resort to a bait and switch scheme. I've shopped in here before, but mainly for parts / accessories and book which were all reasonably priced and a quick buy. Then I came in here to pick out a laptop for my wife. After some debating, I came upon and chose a Hewlett-Packard model that fit the bill. It was reasonably priced and while other laptops nearby were labled as being "refurbished", this one was not . . . not at all. And I also asked the sales kid to make sure and he ensured me it was NOT a refurb. So I tell him to write me up. He gives me the ticket, I go up to the front of the store to claim the laptop and pay for it. Sure enough, they bring out a box (HP factory box), BUT it is labeled in big letters "REFURBISHED". I told them I was paying for a brand new machine, not a refurb. They go in the back to check, and sure enough, ALL boxes of this model had the same marking on it. So with steam coming from my ears, I demand the sales kid to come up front and explain what the story is. He comes up, and escorts me to his manager, who "apologies" for the "mistake" (yeah right). And then they proceed to try and upsell me to a newer non-refurbished laptop. When I turned around and promptly walked away, they didn't budge or try to persuade me to come back, and it was then that we ALL knew it was a bait and switch! Buyers beware! read more

Based on my last experience at Micro Center, I have to start off by saying that they have the worst customer service and by far, the rudest telephone manners I've ever experienced. After being on hold for 25 min., I hung up and decided to go there myself to check out this crew of morons. Their staff is clueless as to what they sell or have in stock. They have the same IQ and electronics knowledge as those employees at Radio Shack. Never again will I shop or consider shopping at Micro Center. The very next day, I called B&H in Manhattan. Not only were they very friendly, they directed me to the proper dept. on the first try. I was connected to a knowledgeable salesman and knew exactly what I needed. Their price was by far cheaper than MC and I felt more comfortable with my purchase. I received my order the very next day! Micro Center is scheduled to open in Queens and in Brooklyn soon and sorry to say this but based on my poor experience in Westbury, I will never step foot into another Micro Center, even though they will be opening 10 min. away from my house. You have to go to cashier and asked someone to get you someone to help. And then when you ask, you have to wait at least twenty minutes for the person to get there. So, a little over a year ago, I bought my son a Mac here and decided to buy the extended protection program for $300 since he was going away to college. The plan supposedly covers any kind of damage including, according to the sales rep, if you accidentally ran it over with your car. When my son told me he was having trouble with the charger, I was glad I bought the protection plan since the Apple 1 year warranty had recently expired. Then I went to tech support at Micro Center in Westbury. There we were told that the charger is not covered under this $300 plan because it is an "accessory", even though it came with the laptop in the same box and is absolutely needed to operate the computer. * When far away from Fry's this will do * Ok, Fry's it ain't. But in the New York area, this is the closest thing. The good news is that apparently they are now willing to price match newegg! So just print out newegg's price before coming in, and they will happily price match at the customer service counter. Today they gave smiling customer service, price matched without any question, and had us on our way with the needed equipment quickly and efficiently. They have a relatively reasonably priced (after price matching) good selection of computers, accessories, and electronics. Perfect when you just can't wait for delivery! read more

Honestly, I don't give one star reviews often, but this store is miserable. I made the colossal mistake of purchasing a laptop here and have had to come get it serviced twice already (bought it three months ago)- both times I've come here, the customer service for computer repair and tech support takes SO LONG. The first time I waited over two hours for a guy to help me with my laptop. Now, I'm standing here at the counter for help as the customer service guy goes back and forth between me and two other customers having troubles. Understaffed and rude at the same time. My time obviously means nothing to them, and I would have no problem leaving my computer with them to repair- but there hasn't even been a conversation about what is wrong with it. This level of customer service is atrocious and I will never buy a product here again. Wish I could return this laptop and just go to best buy, since they have been very helpful and eager to assist me with technical issues in the past with my previous laptop. Computer geeks. That is the target demographic for this place. If you aren't one, you may be a bit lost. If you are, this might just be your personal version of heaven! If you aren't into the minutiae of computers, and you don't understand the ins-and-outs of a lot of technology, this probably isn't the place for you. Best Buy caters to that demographic much better. However, if you know the difference between SATA and IDE, and you know that DDR3 is a type of RAM and not a video game, you will probably do well here. They have an absolutely insane selection of items here. If it goes in, on, around, or even just involves a computer, there's a good chance they have it in this store. And, if you know what you're looking for, some of the prices are OUTRAGEOUSLY cheap. Not to mention that this place really does cater to the geek mindset. Most stores have candy lining the area leading up to the cashier. This place? Yes, they have candy, but they also have tool kits, little geeky USB devices of all sorts, geek tshirts, geeky energy drinks (my favorite is Brain Toniq, personally), loose CDs of Linux varieties, and all sorts of oddities. The manager tonight refused to price match a home version of office365 that was sold on Amazon. When I asked him if he could show me where the price match policy was in the store he just looked at me told me that office 365 is the only software item he cannot manually override. I was never shown an actual posted policy in the store. I asked again where it was posted and he said he could not override it again. read more

My son purchased an Acer Predator from Microcenter on 6/7/2017 and asked for the best warranty - I was with him and he was given the 2 year accidental damage protection plan. The laptop proved too heavy to take to college and he wanted something lighter. The salesman had told us we could bring it back if it wasn't the right fit for him within a few weeks and he did. My son purchased an Apple MacBook Pro and asked for the same coverage. They sold him a 3 yr protection plan which Broke down to 3 years of priority care and 3 yr appl macbk/air care plan. Since he asked for the same, he felt it was the same. There was no reason to question the salesman. It turned out he bought one plan, but there was another one that was a little bit more $$ that he didn't offer him which would've covered everything. The MacBook got a drink spilled on it and when he went to the store to swap it out, they kept it for a week and then finally decided it would not be covered. I went today to pick it up and talked to 3 different people - Eric Grierson, Knowledge manager (who understood why I was mad, but said the conversation was going in circles and there was nothing he could do), John Leisure (Apple Sales Consultant) and Thomas Oatts (Retail Sales Supervisor) and no one stood behind what happened to my son, but kept saying that their salesperson (who is no longer with the company) would never have done that. We have been a frequent customer of Micro Center since 2013 and have a list of receipts, we normally have a lot of confidence in the company but now I am worried that other customers don't realize what their warranties cover either and that a lot of other people will be in the same circumstance as us. Out $1500 with them asking for an additional $600 from my college student to fix what they did wrong. The records that I have and the records that Micro Center have are similar in detail. However, the reason I filed the complaint is because of the warranty. When the original purchase was returned, my son requested the SAME warranty. After visiting the store, I was told that the SAME warranty was available, but WAS NOT sold to my son. Why would the salesperson make that decision for my son?? Based on the salespersons decision for my son on what warranty he needed, the computer is not covered. This continues to be my complaint. Why would I pay an additional $600 when it was the stores error and not ours. My son was 18 at the time of purchase and I don't know what the salesperson was thinking or if he felt my son could not afford more based on his age. This is what I am worried for - not only for my son - but for every customer that walks in the store. Each customer needs to be made fully aware of every warranty that is available and what it covers and what it don't cover. When I bought my computer as well as my daughters from Best Buy, when I left, the warranty was crystal clear. When my son asked for the same warranty, why wasn't he given the same warranty. I have asked for a refund and they are not responding. read more

Micro Center is a computer nerd's paradise. You can find just about anything computer related there. I would not recommend this store for the average non-computer savvy person. As others have stated, customer service is lacking a bit. You can often find great deals on clearance items or previously owned items.... Aka... Returns!! I brought my iMac in to have the HD upgraded a while back (simply because it's a pain to work on them and I couldn't be bothered. Not because I couldn't do it if I had to.) The price was reasonable and they did a good job with it. When I got home I noticed several specks under the glass. (You can't have random specks under the glass when you fo graphic design for a living). The glass had to be removed to get to the HD. Apparently they didn't clean the glass before putting it back on. So I had to trek the iMac all the way back there so they could remove the glass and clean out whatever debris was under the glass. Four days ago I purchased a Toshiba laptop. Nothing fancy. Just your basic $250ish laptop to use around the house to go online and whatnot. It worked fine for the first few days, and then yesterday I went to turn it on and... nothing! Wouldn't turn on at all. So I plugged it in for a few hours figuring the battery was dead. Still nothing. I then noticed that the charging light on the computer wasn't coming on when plugged in. So I figure it's either a defective power adapter or a defective computer. I am going to try and exchange it tomorrow for a new one if possible. Hopefully it was just a fluke. So while I've had both good and bad experiences with Micro Center, I still love going there and gawking at the obscure selection of everything computer related. UPDATE: They exchanged the laptop without any hassle which I appreciated greatly. I don't put any blame on the store for the laptop issue. I understand it happens, and that they have no control of a defective factory sealed item going out. The iMac issue was also forgivable, as the repair was done properly, despite the apparent rush to reassemble the computer. My only peeve was that I had to bring it back (an hour each way) to have the issue corrected with no compensation or discount to make up for the extra time, gas, and hassle being that it was an error on their part. But still... My favorite go-to all-things-computer wonderland. I have upped a star thanks to my no-hassle return experience. :-) read more

Micro Center caters to the "I need it now" PC geek. Significant floor space is dedicated to a la carte components of every kind, from peripherals, such as mice and printers, to the real under-the-hood stuff. Need a an LED_lit cooling fan? Check. Memory modules? Check. Hard drives? Check.The absolute latest graphics card? Um, probably a check. While you'll find pretty much everything you need most of the time, the absolute latest and greatest may not be stocked as quickly as the online e-tailers. You really need to know your components, too, as getting advice from the sales staff will yield wildly varying results. Prices are a mixed bag, as well. On average, you will pay a premium for the immediate gratification convenience of a brick-and-mortar store, but there are deals to be had. The web site, their in-store flyers, and even the sales staff are excellent resources for finding out the deals of the week. If you simply need a whole new computer, again, I suggest you do your homework. The PC department seems to be geared more toward pushing a sale than finding the right fit. Many of the staff in this department aren't as up on the specs of their stock, and quite often will need to consult their terminals for the right details. Their "PowerSpec" house brand systems usually boast the most impressive specs in the desktop area, but I've heard mixed reviews as to their reliability. Fortunately they also carry the other major brands, with a healthy push toward Dell and Alienware. The laptop section is very well stocked, with HP decidedly dominating the shelf space. Their Apple section (yes, they do have one) is much less exciting, and seems to be there as an afterthought. I didn't find the staff in that section either enthusiastic or all too savvy. My recommendation is to drive the extra few miles to the Apple Store at Roosevelt Field mall if you need Apple products. Perhaps the most diabolical experience of shopping here is the line at checkout. Yes, the line, though at times long, moves fast, but you are subject to a barrage of impulse buys that make the supermarket checkout look tame. Need a keychain laser? Of course you do! A three pack of LED flashlights in different colors? Why not? A Snickers bar for the drive home? Absolutely. Then you get to the cashier and are taunted with the prospect of yet another cheap flash drive you have to have, so you pick out that 32GB one in some bright color, simply because the 16GB one from last time wasn't enough. So, if you know pretty much what you want, I would recommend coming here if ordering online is not practical, though it will likely cost you more. I don't necessarily recommend this place (or any physical retailer) for anyone not armed to the teeth with either the knowledge of exactly what they need, or an accompanying expert who can negotiate between them and the sales staff. We need more "Micro Centers!" It sucks that i have to leave NYC just to get reasonably priced computer parts. Sometimes you can't wait for New Egg. Micro Center has unbelievable prices and they are willing to price match any authorized online retailer. Make sure to get their in-store warranty on computer parts! instead of replacing the item, they give you a gift card CASH equivalent to what you paid! So when that memory is cheaper down the line... or that OEM hard drive fails... no questions asked... CASH! lol I love micro center! read more

So I went to get some really simple antivirus software for my brand new Toshiba laptop! Took about a week to have that done! Picked up my laptop and 24 he's later my HDD magically was fried, on my brand new Toshiba laptop that I got the month prior, and used a total of 4 times before taking it to Micro Center! Micro Center sells hardware, software, and various other equipment. And I'm sure they do that well. Whereas it comes to them fixing or physically installing things and being generally knowledgeable about those things. I'll quote the 60-ish year old customer service rep I dealt with. " It's a job, and I have to apologize to you I'm not very computer knowledgeable and we'll have to wait awhile for a tech!" I can not recommended trying to get anything "fixed" here! read more
