I had heard good things about the knowledgeable sales staff. So when we went to Micro Center my first interaction was with a salesperson who was with another company and who asked me if I had signed in. Alas, no one knew where to sign in! Our salesperson was indeed knowledgeable and helped us find what we wanted. We had to leave to do other errands and said we would be back later in the week. When we returned, our original salesman was not here (he had told us he did not work on Thursdays) and the new person was helpful. The price was competive. We found what we wanted, the add on programs, warranties etc. Very good so far. We asked if they could install the software etc. Yes they could for a modest cost. We were told by the salesman and his manager that it would be done on the following day. We asked if it could be ready first thing and were told it would be ready by noon. We were told we needed to prepay for them to ready the computer. We had to wait in the return line to prepay. Far too long a wait. When we arrived at 12:30 the next day, we had to sign up at the service counter to pick up a finished computer. After 15 minutes someone helped us and looked up our information. Said the computer was not ready. When we asked to see the manager, we were relatively quickly met by the manager who told us we never should have been given a time without them having consulted with the repair department. I told him that the lack of communication on their part was their problem and he was making it my problem and giving excuses. He replied I am just explaining, not making excuses!!! Frankly I didn't see the difference. When I told him I thought their customer service was weak, he said that it seems that every customer felt they had a better way of doing it. I suggested he might listen to the other customers. Customers do not complain when they are getting good to excellent service. He told us we would have to come back when the computer was ready. We told him we would cancel our purchase. He didn't seem to mind. Finally he said that even though it was not their policy, they would Fed Ex the computer to us when it was ready. Finally a customer friendly response. We thanked him and left. Then several hours later we got a call from Micro Center telling us we could come in and pick up our computer. It was ready. I strongly suggested that they speak with their manager (who was on the phone with another customer) and Fed Ex the damn computer to us and if there was a problem only then should they call us again. My advise-If you have stock in this company, sell asap. If you can't make customers happy it doesn't matter how good your product is in such a competitive environment. Post script-Today, instead of having the computer delivered Fed Ex, the manager of the department, himself dropped the computer off at our building. Maybe he got the message re how good customer service is appreciated. It was indeed appreciated. read more

I have noticed the service and the attitude of the staff has steadily gone down hill. The only time someone wants to talk to you is when they are able to put their sticker on an item you want to purchase so they get the credit. Micro Center service center in Paterson is the worst I've ever seen! They told me they were going to send my laptop to Toshiba for service. They lied and never did. The hacks tried 3 times to fix the same problem. When I called Toshiba, my computer was never sent there I was told!, I called Micro Center and after a bazillion messengers left and no call back I finally reached a human being who told me the general manager would contact me. That was 2 days ago. I've heard nothing yet. At least Toshiba overnighted me my repair to their top engineer. I feel cheated and deceived by Micro Center. In this day of a bad economy, this is not what I would call customer service after I've purchased 4 laptops and built a desktop from them. I will not do business with them ever again. Hopefully the suits at headquarters will read this and realize what king of shoddy operation they are running in Paterson! read more

Unfortunately horrible experience. I dropped my laptop off Thursday evening. I was told I would be contacted within 48 hours with a diagnoses. I called Sunday and was told my technician would call me back at 1:30pm when he got back in. I called back at 3pm and with my name could not get any information, they said it must be under another name (it wasn't). When I finally got in touch with my technician on Monday night he told me he was assigned my laptop but he was off Saturday and Sunday which is not my problem at all. Each of the 6 times I called between Sunday and Tuesday my name could not be found in the system and I asked them to correct it and they did not. Tuesday morning was the last straw for the department to have no idea who I was so I came in and spoke to a manager. It took about 6 phone calls, 4 full days and a lot of frustration to simply purchase a new battery to fix the problem. Will not be coming back here unless if course the battery you are selling me does not work. read more

I recently bought a computer and the associate I delt with sold me on a package deal and when I got home something was missing. After a horrendous experience with trying to get a hold of a manager to fix my problem I finally got a call back and compt what I was missing and told I could pick it up in the store. Customer service told me to deal with Ryan from the Mac department. What a condescending a**hole. He spent the whole time talking down to me and telling me I was wrong. I had to get the manager back on the phone to get what i was promised. Ryan is an arrogant prick. After how he spoke to me and my fiancé I will seriously consider if I will ever return to this store. I have very mixed emotions about this Micro Center. On the one hand, their electronics deals are far better than any other B&M store in the area (and sometimes competitive with online vendors!). They have a good selection of items too. On the other hand, the store is a little disorganized is terribly understaffed (some of the staff they do have are terribly incompetent too). On more than one occasion, I have looked for items here listed as being on stock on their website, only for me and the employees to be unable to find said items. In addition, the location is terrible. It is rare for me to exit the store without being begged to donate to a sketchy charity or asked by alleged needy (or homeless) people for money. Plus, Sunday shopping is a nightmare here (Paramus's blue laws make everybody flock here). read more

Microcenter has amazing prices, I won't deny that! My salesperson was pleasant and helped me throughout the whole sale. I came in to buy an Apple MacBook Air and wanted to get more info and compare some prices. The salesman was helpful with this, although 10 other people were asking him questions at the same time indicating that the store was short staffed this evening. I felt bad for the poor young man however he handled it well. Either way, I ended up getting the laptop and it was $200 off which came out to 830$ for a $1099 dollar laptop. I think that's great, because apple's usually are never on sale. I was not happy with the way the sales manager came over after the sale was complete. Very superficial. She saw me looking around the whole time and didn't offer to help. As soon as she heard from my salesman that I was purchasing it, he promoted her to come over and she proceeded to thank me for the sale. This may seem nice, however I would rather have been asked if I need help from the beginning. Overall, experience was good. Lead cashier gave us $25 coupon that my bf used on a new mouse. read more

Great place if you know what you want. Prices are not bad if you can't wait a day or 2 to have something shipped at a better online price. Pretty poor customer service. Usually some knowledgeable people at the back BYO desk but you can wait a LONG time to ask them a question. They have a nice service up front where they will diagnose your computer if you are having problems. Again, can be a very long wait. No cost, and I have had them provide some useful insights, but they won't take as much time as necessary if it is a complicated problem. Mainly they are there to direct you towards their paid for system check or a new system. Otherwise the floor staff is hit or miss. Do not necessarily believe what they tell you, as my experience has been if they don't know they will take a guess and respond like they do know. My biggest complaint is the 18 minute "pick up" deal they have plastered all over their web site. Makes it look like they will guarantee to have something you order at the pickup desk in 18 minutes. That works for me since i am about 18 min. drive from the store. But it is not a guarantee and it does not mean 18 minutes until ready for pick up. I had a manager tell me directly that it means 18 min. confirmation, and if you look at the details on line, it really means that they will check their stock to confirm that they REALLY have it, as opposed to what their inventory systems says online. Then they will send you an email within 18 mintes, supposedly. Last time I went to the store, they did have my item at pick up in about 25 min., but I never got an email. Another great deal is their refurbished computers. I've been running old Dell refurbished GX270's for about 8 years now. The last time I bought one it was less than $100 and works fine for emails, web browsing and light office work. Bottom line, I'm glad to have a place to go locally where I can get at least some tech support and pick up a cable or adapter or memory or HD if I need one in a hurry. read more

This place is a total ripoff when it comes to customer service. I went to get my PC fixed there, they charged for a diagnosis which I really didn't care about. They said they would call me after they find out what they need to do, which they did not. They gave me a ridiculous price for fixing my computer because of my hard drive, I literally will never go to this place for anything but my PC parts that's basically it. Their customer service sucks and they left a dent in my computer. Customer service is a rip off and idk about computer parts, this is the only place I know that is good until I found somewhere else. Chris at the Knowledge Center was very helpful regarding my failed MacBook hard drive. The damage was unfortunately more than I had initially thought, but instead of taking it in, alerting me to the damage later and incurring more labor costs, he gave me the option to just have them install my new drive, and quoted me a reasonably labor cost. He was very patient with all my weird questions, and was polite and courteous. I look forward to coming back for all my tech needs in the future. read more

I brought in a laptop with a damaged screen when dropping off at the store the tech turned on my laptop pressed buttons dragged the arrow around the screen with the touch pad clicked on some short cuts and said yes it's just a screen problem and can be repair total cost $130.00. That was 2 weeks ago today i entered the store to pick up my laptop the tech put laptop on the counter and proceeded to turn it on it was on for about 30 seconds before it turned off the batterie was dead tho I did see the image with the name DELL on the screen . I asked the tech if he can turn it back on to make sure everything functioned . The tech says they don't have a charger and I did not provide mine so all they had to work with was the Batterie life I've given them. Witch did not matter because they did not need to get in the laptop or turn it on for anything all they where doing was replacing the screen .WAIT!! #1 your replacing a screen and don't need to turn on the laptop?!!! #2 you don't have a charger?!!! A computer center MICRO CENTER dose not have a charger??!! #3 how would anyone take in a repair service without a charger if u need to examine the device your repairing. why did I not provide mine ? Because it's a computer repair center inside micro center wouldn't u think they had millions of chargers on hand .so I took it home to the charger to use it . And it did not let me do anything black screen says reboot press a button nothing happens . Now I went back to the store told them it's not going to the start screen "Windows"I see the name dell it says press any button to reboot and nothing happens . The tech says it could be something with the hard drive that's a new issue do I want to service it again . That's a joke right I dropped it off working properly all but the full screen .service a screen replacement and now can't do anything with the laptop . The tech ask the repair person who worked on the laptop if he (it was a male) had touch anything inside the computer he said no just replaced the screen . Ok so now I'm stuck here again except this time they have my charger and need to hold it another 2days to figure out the problem. What will happen when they call me? what are they going to say ? I already sense bad intentions given the responds and body language of the tech I'm very worried because Iv giving a working laptop that was functioning fine to the start screen surfing the web perfect all but only 40% of the screen was working .now it's not doing anything from a screen repair replacement service . I'm writing this so that someone other than the tech at the center can give me some input and be there for me the customer given something goes wrong . We purchased the labtop about a month ago, the worst thing about Micro Center is the Customer Service. We had to wait literally an 1hr before a rep got an associate to help us. Reps are more concern about talking to other reps, and when you ask a rep to get someone for the department that you need something they quickly respond with their is someone in that department. On the negative note of professional management the Heavy set woman who is supposedly a manager basically was to concerned about food for some pizza party they were having that day. I give credit to the vendors who dont work their because they made more of a satisfactory effort to assist me. The experience from the Reps of this location unprofessional, uneducated, misleading and inexperienced. When we finally got our laptop, the cashier sold us a Warranty Plan, which hey everyone knows warranty is worth having. But guess what how many people know that they have different warranties... We sure didnt. Which brings us to the conclusion... -Today on May 16, 2013 Thursday we go in to have our laptop repaired and we had to wait yet again. When we finally get assisted an 1hr 12min later, we get told that the warranty that we purchased doesnt cover the damage. Now this is misleading on their part we were told that we didnt purchase a "Accidental Warranty". We asked to speak to a manager, which was a young manager named Carlos, comes over and starts the conversation I got 3min to talk, who basically told us that sorry but I cant do nothing shrugged his shoulders, and states that I wasnt that cashier who sold the plan, once the product leaves the store its your problem unless you return the product 14 days from the date of purchase, funny thing thats also misleading, because on the receipt is states 15 days from the date of purchase yet again misleading. The unprofessional part we asked other options he states I dont know you can buy a cheap computer for $250.00 and ill take $10.00 off and smirks about it with a shoulder shrug. What manager in any business makes an unprofessional response and customer service. He surely did, the fun part, the heavy set female manager dodges the situation. Lets be realistic, your better off purchasing the product from the Manufacturer to be reassured that what you get is fully covered. A great place to shop and have service done. Very affordable and low pressure sales force. Service was quick and accurate, I have had several computer systems repaired or set up here and have never had a complaint aside from having my computers breaking, but that's the nature of the beast. The store tries to strike a balance between good selection, competitive prices, and attentive service. For the most part they succeed; the only annoyance worth mentioning is that the checkout lines are unnecessarily long (they seem to be using the same strategy as Duane Reade/Walgreens: while you wait to check out, getting more and more bored, you are forced to slowly move past racks of impulse-buy items). Of course the sale people are trying to sell high-end gear, but they are notpushy and respect you if you tell them you're just browsing. They have a good selection of specials in their weekly ads to get you in the door (of course make sure to inspect them closely to ensure you're buying something that meets your needs). Their online order process is very useful since you can compose the order online and then just head to the pickup area -- saves time walking around if you know what you want. The system seems to be organized and work well. Haven't tried their repair/service area yet. read more

purchased a printer at the Paterson store and an additional 2 year warranty for $114. Hooked up the printer and the paper drawer was damaged and papers would jam. Came back to the store and asked if I could use the warranty or get an exchange. the woman exchanged it and gave me $114 store credit. picked the same printer and went to the register to use my store credit and now they tell me its $186 total. the man at the register says there is nothing he can do. no managers available to help. I pay the difference and was going to deal with it later because they had long lines. That night I see they charged me the full $186 instead of the $72 difference. I try to call twice the same day and no managers are available or are in meetings. I had to leave my number and no one ever called me back. I am going to contact my credit card company and cancel all the transactions. I will never buy from them again and I was a computer consultant and recommended them all the time. You will get ripped off there. read more

I go to all three NYC area Microcenters on a regular basis, and my advice is to avoid the Paterson location like the plague. Seriously. Do. Not. Go. Here. I wish with all of my heart that I could award this Microcenter location negative 5 stars, but alas. 2/3 of the times I go here, it turns into a totally unnecessary 90+ minute tragedy of abysmal customer service and horrendous execution. I should have learned my lesson the first time I ventured here, when I drove out of my way for an item that both the online system, and a physical human being, verified as being in-stock. Lo and behold, when I arrived 30 minutes later, I eventually discovered that the item had been sold months earlier!!! Worse, I only learned this after standing around asking multiple employees for help for 25 minutes (to which I received the baffling response "Ask someone in this department"..... meanwhile they were the only ones walking through the department, let alone offering to find someone to help me!), then had to wait nearly 40 minutes to finally be helped once a "department employee" was miraculously located. All in all I spent almost 2 hours of my time waiting to discover that the item I needed was not in the store. It's one thing to sell an item earlier the same day, but for it to be sold MONTHS earlier, and the inventory system not reflect this, is a serious problem that any self respecting business would not tolerate. Aside from this, I've gone to pick up several confirmed internet orders, only to arrive and discover that they were not there, or rare/in demand items from the order (already paid for, and reserved exclusively for me) were taken by salespeople, and sold to other customers, all so the salespeople can get a commission..... and no repercussions for their actions. I've had so many catastrophic experiences at this store that I: 1. Have the general manager's personal business number, 2. Have received multiple gift cards from corporate headquarters as apologies for my treatment at the Paterson store, 3. Have decided to stop going to this location once and for all. Out of the 3 NYC area stores, this one is the closest to me (also 3.5% sales tax was hard to resist), but I am now driving out of my way to the other two stores (Westbury & Yonkers) because I simply do not have the time,energy, and blood pressure/anxiety spikes to waste at the Paterson location any longer. So in summary, if you do not value your time whatsoever, enjoy being disrespected and lied to, and relish a sort of Russian Roulette/Forrest Gump box of chocolates shopping experience, by all means, the Paterson Microcenter is the place for you. read more

Got a Microsoft Surface Pro 2 with keyboard and two year warranty as a gift worth close to $800. Six months in the thing crapped out. Brought it back to Microcenter who said they had to send it out to Microsoft to get fixed or get a store credit. We finally got it back 5 weeks later. Two months later it crapped out again due to overheating. Brought it back and they said they gave us a refurbished one. A month later that kept heating up and we brought it back again. Now we are fed up with both Microsoft and and service manager Andre at Microcenter. We ask for store credit instead and he says he will give us a $185 gift card since that is what is left on the two year warranty that was bought thru them. Oh, and we can pick up the unit and try to take it somewhere else to get it fixed. And the "gift card" is only good in their store! WTF are we going to buy for $185 to replace the Surface Pro they either can't or now refuse to fix? Their service center sucks as well as their "new" products. Just ask anybody waiting there for service help. And don't waste your money on buying any of their warranties. They are worthless and Microcenter proves it by not standing behind them and keeping customers pissed off and feeling genuinely screwed over. Now we have a worthless POS Surface Pro and an even worthless $185 store credit. I wouldn't go back to buy a pencil in this ripoff place. They suck. read more

Went to go return two items purchased there with cash a few days back. I threw out the receipt not thinking I would need to return the products. Well the one item does not work with my computer so I couldn't use it and the other was a stand to support the third monitor which now I can't use due to the first item not working. We are talking about $75 worth of stuff. Purchase from here all the time, they pulled the history up right in front of me on the computer. They were super rude and refused to take my items that were 100% as new with original boxes, wrapping, etc. because I didn't have the receipt. All I wanted was store credit to buy something else right on the spot, was even going to spend more money but they didn't care. Worst service ever and all over $75 they lost a customer that is a repeat shopper and has always promoted their store to others. Just wanted store credit to buy something else, was being very reasonable but the 'manager' was rude and could care less. read more
