After having bought a laptop at Micro Center in the summer of 2016, the motherboard crashed in December 2017. Having purchased the extended warranty, they did honor it and gave us a store credit for the price of the laptop minus the tax. However, when we attempted to have them transfer everything to the new computer, we ran into some issues. Without going into all the details, suffice it to say we had a very frustrating and stressful experience at the Knowledge Bar. We had to go back a second time and this time couldn't have had a more positive experience...which was due to the Knowledge Bar Expert we were assigned...his name was George and he was beyond amazing! He took the time to work with the computer and to explain things to us in simple language all the while being personable, pleasant and professional. We can't thank him enough! read more

The wait to checkout is ridiculous! There is only one person in front of me which is at the cash register. They use a prehistoric register system. Great knowledge desk, return policy, sales, the reason I gave 4 stars in my personal experience with computer part and the help from the knowledge desk you have to double check the part bc the sales person they make mistake and I end up going back for the correct part. I was pleasantly surprised by the the layout and the friendliness of staff at Micro Center. Departments were clearly labeled so that items were easy to find. I wandered around to see what offerings there were, and it seemed like a Comp USA/Fry's. Lots of computer parts, some cameras, gadgets, printers, accessories, etc. I was looking for a printer, and after a little bit of browsing time an associate came by to see if I needed assistance. He was able to explain the differences between the two products I was deciding between and also let me know the sale prices. Overall: helpful, laid back staff and a lot of product selection. read more

They don't honor the reservation time via appointments made on Apple.com so be ready to wait. They can't tell you if problems are under Apple warranty or not so if that's your concern, just go to a Genius Bar, which is what they told me to do after I waited an hour to see someone. I had an awesome experience with technician Francisco. I had a difficult situation with dual-booting windows 10 and ubuntu. We managed to solve the problem which made me very happy. I highly recommend their computer repair service. We had a great experience with a technician named Randy. He did a careful and detailed job and was available for follow up questions. Our files were recovered after a system failure because of a Windows update. Randy also did a great job replacing our old mother board with an upgraded version. I have no problem with the product that I recently purchased here and I'm quite happy with the price I paid as well as the customer service I received during the time of purchase. I am writing this review because of the way I was treated when I went to return the extra warranty that I purchased. I was told that I had 15 days to return the warranty if I decided it was superfluous, which I did. At the Returns desk, I exchange hellos with Marcus G. and hand him my receipt explaining that I would like to return the extra warranty. He looks over the receipt and enters info into the system for a few minutes saying nothing further. Without eye contact, he says loudly, "why?" in an openly hostile manner. He then turns to me, visibly irritated, awaiting my answer. Totally surprised by his demeanor after my last customer experience there when I was ceremoniously introduced to two managers, assured that returns are no problem, and treated more "nicely" than I have been in a consumer experience in all of the time I have lived in New York City, I tell Marcus, simply, that I have changed my mind. Marcus types more and then walks away. Returning with a manager, (presumably because he needed her code for the return) I receive no further acknowledgement. However, this manager is clearly not interested in that previous showmanship of appreciating my business given this return and she stands by disinterestedly while Marcus barks at me, still no eye contact, "sign." Having no idea what he is talking about, I look vaguely at him, and he again directs, "sign," slightly louder this time. I somehow realize this means I should sign the terminal to my far left, which I had previously not even seen. At this point I am laughing out loud because I seriously can not believe what a jerk this guy is being to me. I sign; Marcus ignores me; I am handed my receipt, again with no acknowledgement. I hate to admit that I was impressed with the lengths they went to in the visit when I made my purchase which made me remember how salespeople used to to court you in a store and make you their customer. However, it's completely ridiculous to go to the trouble of meeting managers Joe and Skip when if I dare to return an item I'm no longer a desired customer. This is why people shop on the internet. Some continuity of a customer service mission would be a good topic at the next staff meeting. read more

They have the biggest inventory and the best prices for electronics, but personell adds a whole layer of drudgery to the shopping experience. Talk about sleep walking. All that changes when you are ready to buy something big... Overall, the only place I'd shop for computer stuff but only because of the pricing and HUGE inventory in stock! read more

My husband and I waited in the "Build your own section" for at least 10 min. One worker (Caucasian male) was in the area assisting a customer. At no point during our wait did he acknowledge us. There wasn't any "I'll be with you in a minute", or "Can I get someone to assist you?", NOTHING. As a person of color I began to wonder if this is how things are done here or is racism at play? Another worker (a Caucasian female), who seemed to have just come from her lunch break, walked into the section that we were in and immediately asked if anyone was helping us. We replied "no". She yelled that there were customers over here that needed assistance. One second later we were receiving assistance. If this employee could yell out for assistance for waiting customers and get a response so quickly, then why couldn't the other employee do the same for us? I understand being busy assisting customers, but I also understand that if you want returning customers you have to at least act like you want their business by addressing them. Afterwards, as we walked to the front of the store to purchase the item (the worker who helped us had to carry it to the front of the store) I grew more upset because I really wanted to know if racism was at play or not. As I spoke to my husband about how I felt, an employee who was directing the lines (Caucasian - I won't name names) overheard me talking to my husband. How do I know? Because I purposely spoke loud enough for him to hear me (he was at least 2 feet away); and my husband and I looked at him as he leaned in to hear more. I wanted to see what he would do, if anything. It turns out that this is the person our helper had to give the item that we wanted to purchase, to. As we stood at the cash register, the same employee who overheard our conversation, brings our item to us (a sensitive ram stick) and drops it in front of us, onto the table. No apology whatsoever. And walks away with a cocky attitude. We complained and two managers spoke to us and said they will speak to these employees. These managers were very helpful and I appreciate the time they spent speaking with us. We love this micro center and have always shopped here. I really hope that they speak to their employees so that no one else has to experience what we experienced today. I would originally give 3 stars but I gave it one extra because the two managers in charge took the time to acknowledged the situation. read more

Went to get a laptop diagnosed and repaired. Granted I have some knowledge on laptops/computers. I went on sept 1st afternoon, I showed them my laptop and explained the core problems to the best of my knowledge and description I just wanted a professional to take a look or a expert opinion. I was told it will take 5 days to run a diagnoses (I was super reluctant to do this 5 days is a long time tbh). I was told they we're very busy and backed up so I gave them the benefit of the doubt and turned in my laptop for a check up. 5 days later I left a email towards the tech just to get a update nothing. So 7 days passed no phone call no response on the matter, day 9 comes I finally get a phone call telling me the battery has died, one of the problem was the power brick I was using no problem. I told the tech to replace it and cont with the check up. I asked questions about the other problems I described in my initial visit there it was explained I was told he has to run more tests I also stated I will call that day, was told to call back 2 days later when it will be ready for the results. (9 days to run a diagnostic after I tell you what might be the potential issue? Suspect) 11 days after check in I call the tech to find out what's going on I was told he's not supposed to be in today he was off but I was told to call yeah you didn't respond to my email after 5 days also your not in the day you tell me to call. I asked when will he be in another 2 days smh. Day 13 I had to call myself to reach him, I was told was about my situation which I pretty much explained since day one no problem now find out the price to replace the part. I was told this will take another day or 2 to find out lmao at this point it better be dirt cheap. I also asked how long will the repair take I was told another 5-7 days at this point yea I was leaning towards no but I'll wait to find out a price/quote. Don't get me wrong a expert opinion is always nice. Now I asked about another problem that was explained since check in I was told nothing was wrong and the check up passed I said was it really checked? I told him it has to be one or the other if it still giving me problems after reformatting his answer changed in a blink of an eye lmao at this moment this price to replace the part better be lil to nothing. Now I'm questioning your credibility on the matter. I pretty much self diagnosed my own issue. (can I get a discount? lmfao) Day 16 yeah it didn't take 2 days to call me back you said one thing I get something else, it took another 3 days. The tech customer service skills on updating a client is unforgivable I had to call you and send a email for a update. So he calls me and tells me he can't get a quote on the part and it will have to be shipped to an offsite. So you are asking me permission to send my laptop to get repaired via offsite w/o letting me know the quote? So my next question was pretty much their last chance on getting my business. I asked him how long will it take I was told another 5-7 days. I immediately said never mind I will pick up my laptop today and will pay for the replacement power brick we discussed. I told him this situation took way too long +16 days w/o a quote. It was pretty much going to lead into 3-4 weeks. His response times was unacceptable and I had to question his credibility. read more

This is my favorite store by far. I love this store, I can explore and check out anything that has recently came out. The prices aren't bad too. There are always deals, just check online. You can also order for pickup which is great. I've gotten many of my computer parts here. I've also gotten many client computer parts here. I would recommend you to go here if it's your first time building a computer and you don't know what parts to choose, these people will guide you. The employees are very nice and willing to help. I was approached by JIM in build your own PC and he was very knowledgeable and was able to help me choose the parts to get the best bang for my buck. This store has a great selection of computer supplies however it does not have the best deals. A simple search for up to date prices will reveal major price differences in this store, and not in the good way. An r9-290x graphics card was on sale in this store for $850+ when in reality this graphics card is only worth just under $600. Another con about this store is the terrible management. This store tends to have terribly long lines whenever i visit with only one or two registers open. This caused customers to wait about 20-30min at times to pay for their merchandise. There is a very simple fix to this, OPEN ANOTHER REGISTER! However some pros of this store are the massive unbeatable selection of computer and networking supplies that you would otherwise have to go to amazon or newegg.com to buy. Another plus is the fact that this is the first real computer store in Brooklyn with this large of a selection which many have been waiting a very long time for. I only wish that this location would get its act together on the quality of service and some little things such as fair, up to date pricing to put the icing on the cake. read more

My tv went out. The screen went black and the sound stopped working. I called around to some tv shops but the quotes were all $160 and up to fix the tv. I'm way to cheap to pay that much to fix an 8 year old tv and I'm had no plans to buy another one yet so it was d.i.y. time. I watched a few d.i.y. TV repair videos on YouTube and then went to work. I quickly found the problem. Two of the compositors (battery shaped things on one of the boards in the tv) were blown. I called around to local tv repair shops, best buy, radio shack, etc to find replacement parts but none of had them or were selling them. I found a tech blog that suggested Micro Center. I checked out the website and they had the parts. When I got to the store I was awestruck. They have plenty of parking and when I went in this place is so awesome. This store is like Best Buy, Office Max, Fry's, Radio Shack and Tiger Direct all rolled in one with Walmart prices. You can buy a computer or buy the parts to build a computer. There are desktops, laptops, tablets, printers, scanners, cell phones, tvs, radios, gaming systems, bookbags, tools, security systems, a repair shop and all the accessories any techie could dream of. The parts I needed to fix my tv were only 98¢ each. To complete my project I also purchased a soldering iron for $5.99 and solder for $2.99. When I got home it took me less than half an hour to replace the compositors. I turned the tv on and it was good as new. I'm am absolutely in love with this store. I'm going back when it time to take my stepdaughter school shopping because the have everything and I can't wait for their Black Friday Sales. read more

I brought in a MacBookPro for a new hard drive, it took way longer than anticipated/had been communicated (and I had to keep calling for status updates); they didn't back up the drive to the external drive I provided, then tried to get out of refunding the cost of the backup. Overall, a very frustrating experience and I won't be bringing in other items for repair. read more

I went back to Micro Center because I had had a frustrating but decent experience with them about 10 months ago when I needed work done on my laptop (my hard drive crashed.) This time I was having issues with the machine charging. Diagnosis was supposed to take place within 72hrs - it took longer for me to get word on what was going on. Communication was extremely frustrating and when I finally got quote it was that we could do a $50 plus labor battery replacement or a $400 plus labor motherboard replacement. I asked for clarification and they person working on it told me that I would need to pay for both services no matter what. When I said I didn't feel comfortable paying the price of a brand new laptop he was very short with me. When I went to pick up my device I asked for my charger - which the man who checked me in had taken since we thought they problem could have also been in the charger, they refused to give me my charger back stating I did not leave one. I second guessed myself and said I would go home and look for it, sure enough there is no Dell charger in the entirety of my apartment, I tore the place apart looking for it. I have called and text to get my charger back so that I can do a battery replacement myself and have a laptop that works and they refuse to discuss my charger with me. I am sad that I will have to look for somewhere else to go for electronic issues or devices, but they have been so rude and non-communicative in this last interaction that I have zero desire to give them anymore of my money, time, or stress. I was very pleased with the staff and the cleanliness of the building. Rudy Wong checked me in. We agreed my desk top was too old to repair and they would move the data to an external hard drive. I was there on Wednesday 5/31/17 and was called on 6/2/17 to hear the job was done. Went in on Tuesday 6/6/17 to pick up. Was helped by Matthew T. Who got to me As soon as he helped the customer ahead of me. He brought my equipment out plugged in the hard drive and showed me how to access my files. He ensured me ther was plenty of room to add more data to the hard drive. Shawn Simpson, the Manager of the Knowledge Bar, introduced himself and made it clear, he wanted me to be comfortable and happy with my transaction. I was with a friend who walked the store while I was in consultation. He says the staff is ready to help in every department. The Store is huge and carries everything electrical. From mouse to tv, computers, tools, cases, books, everything you could think of is there. Plenty of handicap parking. Near other great national chain stores. read more

Terrible and horrible rude Manager named John. I visited to purchase a G syncs monitor for my son. The price was about $1,400. I also needed ink cartridges. I proceeded to purchase the monitor and some cartridges and prior to cashing out I stopped at customer service in order to recycle some old cartridges and to obtain a rebate for them. The female staff was pleasant but she had to have the Manager sign off on the rebates.....that's when this jerk entered. He thought I was there for ink (or small item purchase) he was rude and had the most arrogant Russian accent. He flung the old cartridges and threw the rebates across the desk like I was an animal. Needless to say, the monitor was left on the floor and I walked out! In addition, I checked out the internet and found the same monitor about 15% lower at Best Buy! read more

Normally their price is higher than their competitors. So, the price of an item I wanted to purchase was higher than their other competitors as usual. I asked if they do a price match and they said yes. So, when I showed them the price which was about $20 less than their listed price. The manager was being very rude and told me to get the item from the store that was cheaper. He though they had it listed cheaper. So, I showed them proof and later he was like okay and didn't even apologize. This was a very bad experience. I have got these behaviors from them about three times already. Unacceptable! Shhh. Don't tell too many people about this as-yet uncrowded store, part of a chain that is better known outside NYC. I recently bought a laptop here, arriving armed with recommendations from the New York Times's Wirecutter site. A helpful salesman saved me from blindly following all the one-size-fits-all Wirecutter tips and steered me toward a Lenovo that fit my specific needs. Today I went to the store with a cheap little Dell I'd bought elsewhere, hoping I could expand its memory. At the Knowledge Bar, a friendly technician named Jorge opened it up, informed me that it was soldered in a way that precluded memory expansion, and, while he was at it, fixed a dent that had been making it hard to close. He also patiently answered my questions about how to deal with its limited memory. Charge for all this: zero. I'm sold! My only caveat is that it's sometimes hard to find salespeople, and it's a bit of a walk to public transit, past junkyards and smoke shops. read more

I shopped at J&R forever, and even though they were better for audio than computers I bought my last laptop there before they closed. Needing another one and hoping not to have to trek to Manhattan for a decent selection, I googled computer stores in Brooklyn and stumbled upon Micro Center. Turned out to be a great find - a nice, large, well organized and well stocked space, good prices and most importantly, good sales people. The salesman wasn't in my face, but he was helpful when I needed it, answered my questions intelligently, didn't try to upsell me and just seemed genuinely knowledgeable about the options. He steered me towards a really nice computer in my price range and was very polite, as was the woman at the register. Altogether a very pleasant experience and I'm very happy with the computer. So glad I didn't break down and go to the super-loud, super-poor-salesmanship big box store next to my office. Oh, and hooray for the parking lot! read more

The place is amazing. it has every piece of technology you could wish for. from DIY kits to fully built computer systems. i learned about the possibilities i can do with all different types of components and chips that i never knew just by browsing the store. this place has everything organized in every section and everything is neat and clean and i feel welcomed. an employee even cam up to me and asked if there was anything he can help me with. he answered my questions and gave his own impression of some products and gave recommendations. it was amazing, and i would love to return for any other electronic part. read more

i highly doubt i will ever return to Micro Center or ever recommend it to anybody. My faulty xBox has been taken for a repair, but I did not get a new xBox. I was offered a gift card for the amount i have paid for my xBox, but without the tax, which means I had to pay double tax for the same item. When i complained about it, i was told to call DeBlasio as it is his fault. Then we were ushered to the cash register where we were offered a new Xbox, unfortunately as I am not a gamer, i did not notice that it was not the same version, this one without Kinect. The difference in price, as it was $100 less, was attributed to the fact that the xBox has been on the market a while. We were also charged for another 2-year protection plan, although the previous plan was not expired yet. So in fact we have paid for two 2-year protection plans, which are worth nothing in Micro Center. To sum up, over a year ago we have paid $550 for an xbox kinect and $70 for a protection plan. What I have at home is a $399 xBox plus another protection plan, this one less expensive, as the price has also gone down. This way, Micro center made money on my 7 year old, who is the gamer in the family. Shame on you, I will gladly share this opinion on all social media accounts. read more
