I signed up for a Yelp account just to leave this account of my terrible experience with this store.
I can't argue with any of the reviews here on this site. My experience was nearly identical to Andres F.'s.
After ordering a Tamron 18-270mm lens (http://goo.gl/9rvka) for my camera, a man called me telling me that he had a better combo that would "meet my situation and expertise better" than the 18-270mm. He convinced me "through his 60 years of experience" that a Tamron 75-300mm (http://goo.gl/MA2oW) with a zoom extender (http://goo.gl/OTFA9) would be better off, all for the same price, and he would even throw in a $10 UV filter and a cleaning kit "for free" with the deal. Like Andres, I should have known better.
Upon further research of the purchase, I found that the lens the man offered to swap out was nearly half the price on Amazon (http://goo.gl/sdLhI), did NOT have Image Stabilization (practically essential for handheld shooting, especially on that zoom), and was a MUCH more cheaply-made, lower-quality lens than the one I'd originally wanted. My goal was to get a solid, general-use lens that could operate on a wide range of of convenient focal lengths, and what I ended up with was a cheap, slow lens that was entirely useless for shooting anything unless you were outdoors and on a tripod. Also, the zoom extender was a completely pointless addition to a lens that already zoomed way further than I needed, even at its lowest zoom.
After returning the entire package (and paying for shipping back) for a refund, I learned that my refund had apparently been deducted 10% for what is, as of this writing, an unknown fee. I would expect a restocking fee, but their site specifically states that there is a 15% restocking fee only if the equipment was returned with missing inserts or parts, which I made sure prior to shipment was NOT the case. It was probably for returning a product "for a reason that wasn't their fault." Very slimy.
I fully admit that it was my fault for not knowing better. However, with the convenience of Amazon at our disposal today, these sorts of business practices are almost cartoonish. The guy who called me originally was incredibly courteous and "knowledgeable" about the whole thing, and I should have known that his "courtesy call" was really to pawn off a cheap lens that they had marked up for extra profit. Unbeknownst to me, his "decades of experience" were in ripping off less-knowledgeable customers.
I can't stress how dirty and underhanded the whole ordeal was, all under the guise of "helping me out" with their "extensive experience." DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE FOLKS. Opt to pay the little bit extra on more reputable sites and not have to deal with swindlers like this.
Edit: Also, I noticed that Kristine H. under me had to email them and ask for a refund upon their receipt of the product. I had to do the same. Their refund was, in fact, NOT automatic and had to be requested. It wasn't until the next day that it actually showed up, and then, it went down as described above. read more
