It was kind of fluck-ish that we ended up going to Apache Junction for the day and drove by Mickey D's Cafe a day after I just read an article about it (wasn't planned)!! I've got to say I was pleasantly impressed at how nice the employees were, our waitress was a sweetheart (happy and talkative), our order came out pretty fast...it was packed in there but obviously the kitchen is on top of it all! I really love this place and it's been my favorite brunch place in AZ for several years. The food is awesome, the staff is awesome, it's comfy, chill, and quick. Today was extra special tho. I was freezing so the staff today brought me a hot cup of water so I could hold on to it to warm up. I don't do coffee so this was perfect. Was there yesterday (Fri) around 11:00 a.m. and it was packed. This place holds many people, wait time was about 10 min, standing room only. NO BIG DEAL but not prepared for the amount of people. Service was fast and server was nice. Delicious orange juice in a generous size cup compared to most. Biscuits and gravy were awesome. I assumed most everyone is a local/repeat customer. We hadn't been there in a while but stopped for breakfast today. We were surprised it wasn't very busy for a Friday morning . We ordered breakfast . Food was great BUT my husband had coffee with his breakfast. NOBODY came by to offer him a refill . When we did see staff on the floor... I could not get anyone's attention to even look our way. I finally resorted to waving his cup in the air when staff was out on the floor hoping they'd see us out of the corner of their eye. Nothing worked. I came in and it wasn't full or busy and it still took forever to get out of there. If you're looking for prompt service, don't go here. I then came back with my husband on Saturday. Understanding it would be busy, we expected a wait and things to be a bit longer for table service etc. The coffee creamers they had out were chunky as hell. I looked the other way. Not that big of a deal. Then I got the completely wrong order. Entirely. At this point I'm upset. I work hard for my money and I don't go out much. I've been here a few times and there is always a wait. That tells me one thing......it must be worth it. The place is old school diner style. The wait staff is fantastic. The food is really good. I always get the an omelette with an egg substitute option. The side options are plenty. I just love the vibe here. Nothing fancy. Nothing high end. Just good ol good eatin! Just arrived there this morning, Aug.20th, we had enough time to eat and get back home for someone coming to our place to give us an estimate (we are only about a mile & a half from there,) would have been our second visit there. Well after about almost 15 minutes the little lobby inside was 10 going on 12 people and nobody at the desk to take names or seat anyone the whole time, so I suggested to my husband we go to Panera, since that's about what we have time for now, so we left. I was invited by a friend who eats their often and swears how good it is. I have to say they have wonderful service and delicious food. The reason I'm giving it two star is because of their COFFEE. As a coffee drinker this part of the experience is crucial. It dose not have to be perfect, but their coffee was watered down and it tasted like cardboard. Gas station coffee is 10 times better!! Finally decided to try this restaurant after many years of driving past it. Honestly, we should have kept on driving. It has a bit of that hole-in-the-wall, mom and pop, slightly surly waitstaff vibe. But unfortunately, the things that matter most are not to be found here. The food is no better than what the most average home cook might whip up in their own kitchen. They advertise proudly that they have the best biscuits and gravy, but that boast is far from the truth. The sausage gravy was almost flavorless. I've never encountered a sausage gravy that needed a lot of added salt just so that it would taste like something, but this place figured out how to do it! And the biscuits, while a good enough size, were mealy, and we're reduced to crumbly crumbs by just cutting them with a fork. The bacon I had was tasty and crispy, but paper thin. My wife's French toast was as ordinary as can be. The coffee was pretty good though. Now, all this could be forgiven for a hole-in-the-wall type place if it was a good value for your money. Sadly, it was not. My two mealy biscuits with flavorless gravy and paper thin bacon was $11.99! The other real sore spot was the nearly non-existent front of the house staff. We entered to a packed little waiting area and a large sign saying we must wait to be checked in. But there was no one to check us in or seat anyone. Finally, after about 10-15 minutes, some of us started going to the cashier further inside the restaurant to find out what was happening. The cashier just pointed the different waiting parties to empty tables and said a waitress will get to us. Service after that was fairly quick and efficient, although pretty brusque and surly. Wow, what a great flavorful Omelette! I am so glad that I was able to eat my last breakfast here before I go back to Japan. Since I am Japanese, I was looking for an American style of the meal, and here it is! I had a "Spinach, Bacon & Mushroom Omelette with Homefries & Homemade Biscuit", and everything was delicious, great and outstanding. To top it off, the service was quick and friendly even though the inside of the restaurant is packed with many customers. We have been coming here for a number of years. You can judge how popular they are by the sixty cars parked outside (during the Winter months). Service is spot on. Simple breakfasts, large servings and happy customers. I would have given 5 stars, however the ventilation problem in the dining room really needs to be looked after. read more

Micky D's is our go to breakfast hands down!!! One reason is the food, which is cooked perfectly to order each and every time. But mostly is the waitstaff. Becky is more then phenomenal!!! She makes suede each and every customer feels welcome and makes sure they receive the best breakfast they have ever devoured. I love Mickey D's because of Becky!!! She goes beyond to make sure you get exactly what your taste buds are desiring and will make your meal to order if not found on the menu cause it's that important to her. What?! While eating breakfast this morning at Mickey D's something suddenly occurred to me. Honestly there's not much anyone can do to cook an egg "better" than anyone else. All eggs start out equal and whether you fry it or boil it or bake it there's not much you can do to make it taste better than anyone else's. So I can't say that Mickey D's breakfast taste incredible better than anyone else's but there is so much more to eating breakfast at a restaurant and that's where this place scores a home run. It's definitely not a fancy place but it's not shabby either. I'd call it comfortable and homey. The staff is way more than just friendly, they all just seem to love what they're doing. No one ignores you, no matter who's "table" it is someone is always asking (without being a pest) if you need water or a coffee refill or something else. The decor is Americana, like in Route 66 theme, etc. but not chain restaurant kitschy or garish, just a comfortable highway diner sort of look. The prices are REALLY low which definitely attracts those on a fixed income, and the portions are large. I had eggs and chicken fried steak (I've never had chicken fried steak for breakfast before) and if you order the homemade biscuit you can make your own biscuits and gravy out of it. It was just right. The coffee tastes fresh too. Be aware that this place closes at 1:00 PM despite offering a lunch menu. If you only get an hour lunch break at noon that might be a concern. Okay, maybe it's hard to "egg-cel" at making your breakfast tasting a lot better than the next guy's but somehow the end result here has made this now one if my favorite breakfast spots. [NEW STUFF] Since I wrote this review we've been back to Mickey D's many times. The place is always busy and the food/service never disappoints. To clarify what I said earlier, they do have extended hours until 7 PM on Fridays and one of the high points is their Friday Fish Fry, which is not only one of the best in town it is probably the cheapest. read more
