Michiru is a great place to get sushi in the Clear Lake area. I've invited friends who live in various parts of Texas and they absolutely love the food and atmosphere. I've been dining here since it first opened. It's my weekly Friday spot. I would highly recommend Arielle as your server because she's a seasoned server and she always makes you feel welcomed into the Michiru family! However, the entire staff is very friendly and welcoming. As far as quality of food, the sushi is amazing. I think the price is great for the combination of flavors you are receiving and presentation of each roll. My favorite sushi rolls are: Crunchy Tuna, Chef Signature, and C2. If you're not a sushi fanatic, I would recommend getting the Hot Fish Plate! You won't be disappointed. The absolute standard bearer for sushi in the eastern suburbs of h-town. I've lived in Japan and this is a good as it gets without schlepping all the way into town to Kata Robata, one of the foremost Japanese restaurants in America. The quality of the fish is uniformly excellent. I love the fact they almost always have my beloved uni and that their unagi comes out with a surface crunch and moist center. IDENTITY THEFT 7 times!!! Would have given Michiru 5 stars because I have eaten here over 75 times and the good is great, however in the last few months my family has all had identify theft after dining here. We tested this out to prove that one particular female Asian waitress is a thief, and without doubt the next day myself and family receive notice that a fraudulent charge has been made on target.com, Barnesandnoble.com and amazon.com. Love the good but bring cash. Management has never taken our claims seriously but after 5 tests after the initial 2 fraud charges, its hard to deny when the waitress is the same. The only thing more rare than a date night with my wife was a lackluster meal at Michiru tonight. To qualify that, I need to tell you that the tasty sushi, unique cocktails and soul-healing shrimp udon soup were present and accounted for, indeed. Alas, the usually nimble and prompt service had the night off. Alexander Not So Great - actually Alex - was as easy to find as a deadbeat dad, taking our order and disappearing for about 15 minutes. When the spider roll was missing in action, so was Alex. Only after flagging him down, did he say that they were working on it and asked "it we would like to yell at the sushi chefs." This all happened when the bar was beginning to thin out and tables began to open up. He left before my wife could order a second drink. Thus came the first time that we had to flag down the floor manager who apologized and then placed the drink order. Alex delivered the drink and then returned about 10 minutes later with my udon, and my wife's bento box and spider roll. This time, M.I.A. was the togarashi (chili spice) that traditionally accompanies the udon. After about five minutes of waiting, watching my wife eat and no togarashi did I flag the manager again. I told him that my meal was being held up by something that should have been delivered in the first place. Again, I told him how much we love this place but Alex needs to be reminded of his points of service. Finally, I received two dishes of togarashi - one in a soup bowl and the other in a dipping sauce dish. Seemingly, Alex had a talking-to by his manager as he checked on us, desperately trying to rally like the Astros down by five runs in the bottom of the ninth. While clearing my dishes, he then proceeds to ask if we want anything else like dessert. While my wife is still eating and I tell him no, he then says he'll be back with the check. He then drops the check while my wife's dishes are still on the table. When I slip my credit card into the book, he promptly takes off to process the payment. That was just before he had his arms crossed and he was waiting for payment. In my mind, he was already checked out, ready for some after-work libations with his buddies. Then came the third and last time I talked to the manager: Me: "Our food was wonderful. We love this place but I think Alex needs to work on certain aspects of his service or maybe he hasn't been properly trained. I think your restaurant deserves better because of its reputation and so do your customers." The manager once again apologized and agreed that Alex needed more training. I don't know what was more disappointing that: *The service did not meet the high quality of the food *Alex did not elevate his game *The manager failed in motivating Alex or *Nothing was taken off the tab. We're not the kind of people who whine to the manager so we can get something comped. Like many other folks, we tend to tip starting at 20 percent and only go below that when we face disappointment. Life is tough when you have a baby that just won't sleep. My wife and I wanted to go out to dinner after our son went to sleep. (Just so there's no confusion, his grandparents were watching him!) Finally, two hours after the process started, he went to sleep. So we had the task of finding an open, decent restaurant at 9:30 at night in the Friendswood, Pearland, Clear Lake area. Michiru was one of the only places open after 9 that had a pretty good rating, so we decided to try it. Overall, it was okay but not great, and there are just too many good sushi places in Houston to give it more than two stars, unfortunately. The good: the seaweed salad was fresh, crunchy, and had green apple matchsticks, so it was a win. It was very close to a typical seaweed salad but with a twist. The philadelphia roll was fresh and our favorite roll. The cocktails were inexpensive. My wife had something called the Texas Tumbler (Texas Twister?) consisting of Tito's, St. Germain, Grapefruit, and soda for $7. The atmosphere was nicer than I'd expected. The lighting and color scheme made dinner feel more like a date and less like escaping the baby for an hour. The bad: service was awkward. It wasn't terrible, just kind of off-putting. We ordered an appetizer that came on a large plate (lettuce wraps), and the sushi came out very quickly, before we were even halfway through the app. There really wasn't enough room on the table, and the waitress was holding two large plates of sushi, so we had to rearrange things. Again, not a big deal, but just a little awkward. The waitress also didn't seem to be well-trained. We asked her about recommendations or different items on the menu, and she would read over my shoulder to see what the menu said and then repeat it back to me. After we were finished, my wife and I were in the middle of a conversation when she came up to ask us for the check (which was good because we'd been trying to get the check for about ten minutes). But then she cleared the table while we sort of awkwardly paused our conversation. Again, it's a small thing, but she could have just grabbed two plates in a much shorter amount of time or just waited for us to leave since we were obviously ready to go. The food was generally okay. The lettuce wraps were pretty standard. The sweet potato tempura roll was sadly bland, and the Waikiki specialty roll was a big letdown. It was topped with strips of mango, but the texture of the mango was off. Not sure if it had been previously frozen or slightly dried, but the texture just didn't work. Then, the roll was drizzled with an overly-sweet mango syrup that tasted more like canned mangoes than anything else. We thought the roll might be better without any mango at all, so we took it off, and it was terribly bland and not edible. In a nutshell: Next time I need a sushi fix, I'll try a different restaurant. If I come here again, I'll fill up on seaweed salad and drinks. read more

Went here on a whim for dinner last night and I was only semi-impressed. The atmosphere was cozy and our waitress was very enthusiastic and nice. I had two rolls the Waikiki and Phoenix. Personally, I think that both rolls were way overpriced for what it was. Very small and simple rolls. The Waikiki was a small piece of salmon and cucumber I think with a thin slice of mango ontop and the phoenix had a variety of different fish and a single cilantro leaf on top. All in all, the sushi was mediocre and overpriced. The total for both rolls was $27. I do have to give the credit for the beautiful artistic presentation. But I wouldn't come back because there's other sushi places that offer better tasting sushi, quantity, and price. read more

Gotta say it was once the best sushi in the area but has definitely gone down hill in my 2 recent trips. The maki has been rolled terribly, falling apart before reaching the mouth, the rice having no flavor, and the reliance on spicy mayo has just gone too far. I love this place! I love how tiny it is and the decor itself wasn't too shabby either. The service isn't always the best however the food certainly makes up for it. I would recommend the spicy girl roll and the chopped scallops. They were both so amazing. The one thing that I would probably never get from here again is the udon but I wasn't too surprised that it tasted bland because it is a sushi restaurant after all. This is a great place for decent priced sushi. This is one of my go-to sushi places in South Houston for when I am too tired to drive into the city. Ambience and wait staff were great. Really fresh sushi close to home. Henry, our server was very helpful and unobtrusive. In addition to their "3 rolls for $10" lunch special, we had the Cuban 8 roll that has crab, shrimp tempura and cream cheese that was delicious! We also had a C2 roll with made to order steak slices wrapped around the pieces. Their chicken stir fried udon was nice and fresh and their hot & sour soup was rich and flavorful. According to Henry, they've been open for about 2 years. Great location since we grabbed lunch there and went right to catch our movie at Cinemark right behind it. Highly recommended! read more

This place was a spontaneous choice we decided to check out on New Years. When I walked in the area was smaller than I imagined but the atmosphere was nice. The sushi though was a little disappointing. I was expecting more of a presentation especially for the more priced king crab sushi. My favorite though was the fried calamari, the only one that stood out to me. Comparing it to RA Sushi, my all time fav sushi place, prices were pretty similar and I won't be returning to this sushi restaurant. read more

I've been going to Michiru regularly for about 2 years now. I never order the specials, because they taste like specials....cheap and gross. I usually get the dancing eel roll, and my husband will get the fire island. We always end up ordering 2 more signature rolls and at $13 a piece, this place gets pricey fast! Anyways, we went in for dinner a week ago. We were seated almost immediately, and since we knew what we wanted we closed our menus and waited. And waited. The place was about 25% full, so they weren't too busy. It was a Monday night. Two more parties came in and they got their drinks right away. I made eye contact with 2 of the servers numerous times, but they went on doing other things, and never showed up at our table. After 9 minutes, we decided to give them 2 more and then we would walk out. 12 minutes and we got up. We walked past a group of 3 servers chatting in the front, and the host that had seated us, and they were so deep in their conversation they didn't even notice us. We went across to Chili's for some great service. I used to come here at least once every 4 weeks; with friends, my sisters, or my husband. I guess it's time to find a new sushi place! Came in tonight on a whim, and was pleasantly surprised. They were busy so we sat at the bar. Our bartender, Manny, was amazing! Friendly, knowledgable, and most importantly down to earth. Explained the menu and specials to us effortlessly, and made us feel welcome. We had the chicken satay, edamame, pan fried gyoza, and the Waikiki roll. All was good, bit the satay had a slight fennel flavor which isn't my favorite, but still edible. All in all, Manny made our experience a fun one, and would definitely come back here. We came here for mother's day and surprisingly it wasn't all that busy but we also did a late lunch. Our party of 6 was sat right away and our server immediately greeted us. The food all came out promptly and the service was great. The food is fresh and I love the variety of rolls that they have. Will definitely be back. read more
