I have been here for sushi a few times. It is about the best place I have found in and around Clear Lake. Service is good, the wait staff are generally attentive. The atmosphere is about what you would expect. The room is large and dark with a high ceiling. I have had sushi rolls, which were very good. Had Chinese here for the first time and it was also good. They use strips of white meat chicken, rather than chunks or cubes of dark meat, which is a nicer texture. I recommend this restaurant and am only reviewing now after eating here a few times. Place is nice, clean, easy atmosphere. Fried rice was too dry for my liking. Thai coconut curry shrimp sauce was good, but had cucumbers in it, didn't like that combo. This place has quickly become my husband and my favorite place. We're working our way down the chef special and everything has been amazing! But it took one special waiter for me to take the time to write this review. I don't know his name but he is a true gem. He had hilarious commentary throughout our dining experience and when the bill came he showed up with two bills!! We expected he split it and we quickly explained that we were together and that one check would suffice. To my blundering surprise, I opened my bill and found not a check but this super cute illustration. I plan to frame it because the impact it had on me was so profound that it made me want to be even better at my job as well and add fun little spice as he did. Well done Akashi!! I love Akashi! I usually go to the one in vintage but I was in the area for lunch and I love this place. I was the first customer of the day and service was fairly quick. I was seated instantly and my order was taken pretty quick. I got the lunch special triple delight and an order of calamari. The calamari came out pretty quick. Very quick and tasty. I don't like how they use a bunch of veggies to make it look full with a little bit of calamari. The flavors are on point but the plating was a bit sloppy. The lunch special comes with fried rice or white rice and choice of soup. I got white rice and egg drop soup. I love their egg drop soup. It's seasoned nicely where you don't have to add any salt. I wish they had black pepper on the table. I love black pepper in my food. The eggroll was really good and the triple delight was good. It has a bit of a burnt wok taste like the wok was too hot. Two stars cause the non-sushi is decent. I used to like coming here for sushi, however the last two times we've ordered the sushi has been bad. I gave it a second go thinking it was a one-time bad sushi order, but unfortunately something has changed for the worse. Tonight I ordered a spicy tuna roll and a tiger eye roll. The spicy tuna roll fish smelled odd - I opened the packaging and immediately was concerned about the potential safety of the fish. The tiger eye roll was rolled extremely loose and with way too much cream cheese. This was the case with the tiger eye roll I ordered last time too. I love sushi and have had both these rolls at other restaurants over the years, diff cities/countries and have not experienced sushi quite as bad as this evening. I'll be updating this review if I happen to have an adverse reaction to the food later on, and will call the restaurant if that happens as well. Sorry, I wouldn't order sushi here. read more

Coming back from a trip in the evening, no one has time to go grocery shopping. After eating tons of good authentic Mexican food I craved for sushi. We hit the jackpot because this place is 5 minutes from our house and sushi definitely fulfilled my craving. When you walk in you see the host/hostess and then you turn and are greeted by all the pretty lights happening at the bar area. They have 3 TV's and even though we didn't sit at the bar we we're still able to watch the rockets game. No squinting or trying to squirm around to see the tv. We ordered 3 different sushi: Volcano roll, tuna and avocado, & Chilean cod- amazing and we would order it again. Never had cod in a sushi before but take that sushi, dip it in the sauce, and you'll thank me later! Of course we had to order hot saki. No different from any other place. Akashi is a Chinese/Japanese hybrid restaurant with high-quality offerings of popular Chinese dishes and Japanese sushi. This is my family's go-to restaurant for Chinese food in the Clear Lake area but not sushi (due to lack of specials). Any Chinese dish at Akashi will be excellent. They use high quality meats and seafood compared to pretty much any of their competition in the area. The fried rice is great and the egg rolls are honestly among the best I've ever had. The food and service is very consistent. I wrote a review a few years ago which was only 3 stars and that was because my wife and I ordered sushi and the servers could not answer any of our questions. I think that is because the restaurant was brand new. We haven't experienced any of those issues since then. The sushi here is good, but there is no sushi happy hour, so we typically eat elsewhere if we are going to binge on sushi. Pro tip: Order the Singapore Noodle. I've tried everything here and it is my favorite dish. I married into a Chinese/Vietnamese family and we all agree on this. read more

I finally tried out Akashi last week and was extremely pleased. The order took a bit longer than I expected, I called when they first opened, arrived when they said the food would be ready, and still had to wait an extra 10 minutes, which wouldn't have been a big deal if my wife and baby weren't waiting in the car. That said, quarantine makes everything difficult, the staff was good at wearing masks and keeping hygiene, and the patrons all kept good distance between each other. The food itself was fantastic, one of the favorite Asian dishes I've had in clear lake. I ordered the Mongolian triple delight which had beef, shrimp, and chicken. The beef was extremely tender, the chicken was lean and not gummy, and the shrimp was well cooked and de-shelled. There weren't many veggies in the dish, I think just green onions, and I would have loved some more veggies in it but the fried rice it came with was definitely a great compliment to the proteins. I would 100% recommend this dish to others and I look forward to trying other dishes at Akashi! read more

I always like to give restaurants 3 tries before I knock them unless I've had an absolutely terrible experience. My first experience, my family and I were disappointed in the price point for the amount of food. The calamari was extremely salty. We waited until we tried again. Our second experience, my daughter really wanted orange chicken. The portion size was good, but our service was disappointing. We ordered take out. When I got there to pick up my order, the person helping me couldn't even be bothered enough to get off the phone. I could tell it was a personal call in another language. I assumed he was the manager, which made it even more disappointing. Our third and final experience, we ordered the duck. The picture on the website is completely different than the dish we were given. The duck looked like it was old meat. It was skinned and deep fried and was not good at all. It was take out, so we called back and asked to exchange it for something else. They were fine with that, but I told them that the picture on the website is deceiving. They said the picture was a stock and was not what they actually serve. Sounds like a marketing issue to me. When I went to pick up the other dish, they were annoyed that I asked for the difference in price. I won't be returning. read more

The tuna, yellowtail, and salmon were beautifully cut, presentation was beautiful and the freshness was wonderful. At the recommendation from my waiter, Sam, the burning man roll was a great choice with an explosion of flavor and despite the name the spice was well balanced. Went there for lunch on Saturday right after they opened at 11. Nicely decorated inside and had a warm inviting feelings when we walked in. Immediately we were greeted by the owner who took us to the booth. We ordered: Gyoza (5/5)- excellent ponzu sauce and they gave either 8 or 10 dumpling as an appetizer. Akashi fusion salad (5/5)- again, excellent dressing. It's got mix spring with raw tuna, yellowtail, mango and chopped up asparagus. Very expensive for the amount received ($13) but very good. Spicy scallops roll (4/5)- good but not much different from any other places. What I like is they only put thin layer of rice in the roll, that's how it's supposed to be. Chicken teriyaki (3/5)- if there's improvement needed, this is the dish. Chicken breast was pounded so thin that it's bone dry by the time the kitchen is done grilling. Good thick teriyaki sauce though. Service is a bit lackluster considering only few tables when we were there. I was planning to order more food but the server came back by the time we finished our meal and we didn't feel like we wanted to wait anymore. read more

The beef teriyaki was just okay, it came with two pieces of sliced steak on a bed of lettuce. I wish there were some veggies to go along with the beef.
