Frist time ever been here, the ambient is very good as well quiet. The service was great as well continuing checking if there anything we needed. Food is very good! It's different from a lot of places, the food is not over seasoned or under seasoned. Not oily as well. I used to go to the Ichibon greenspoint location over 10 years ago. I had always wanted to try the other location and I was so glad I did! This location was very clean and has a very nice interior. I came 45 mins until closing, (mountains of traffic this day) but the staff was sweet and kind to make me feel welcome and not rushed. You can choose regular seating or hibachi style seating. I went with regular this time, my regular order at Ichibon is sake bombs with Ichibon beer. Very good highly recommend and please have a designated driver as the sake is strong. Jalapeño rolls are absolutely amazing lightly fried stuffed with salmon, cream cheese and fried tempura shrimp. Ichibon has a special sauce seems soy sauce based but it's absolutely delicious and also a must try. I love ordering all of the appetizers, if you like eel I recommend it's my favorite here. As soon as we walked into this place the hostess was rude. She didn't even greet us but sat us immediately so that was nice. We let her know we had 2 more people walking in and she kept saying "just make sure you know their order" then we go to the bathroom & they are FULL of water. Food & show was good. Then, The server charged us for ADULT meals when we clearly ordered for CHILDREN UNDER 8. We let the server know and he said he would get the manager. The manager came over and said if we want to be charged for kids meals we would have to give the food back. Now tell us that isn't rude. Because clearly it was just a miss communication from both ends. But that wasn't the problem it was the manager and how he spoke to us. On the menu UNDER THE KIDS MENU it says "hibachi steak". Where should I start. We decided to dine in on Valentine's Day and they said no lunch today on dinner all day ok no big deal. The lettuce that comes in the salad is all wilted and looked bad. The hibachi steak was good the fried rice was ok some rice wasn't cooked throughly. I've came to this location several times and today the service was horrible. Our waitress got everyone's order wrong and when we tried to let her know, she ignored us. The sesame chicken was bland that my mom ordered and the fried calamari wasn't good at all. There were 2 Hispanic ladies that were checking on us more than our waitress. I had the most amazing experience here with my family. We came to eat for my oldest daughters birthday but immediately when we walked twords the hibachi my youngest who is special needs panicked over the sounds of the spatulas, I think she also remembered the fire from last time we took her. The hostess Viviane was so sweet allowing me to sit off to the side with her to calm down. She even brought me another menu so I could pick my food. In a last ditch effort to get her to sit with the family I asked her if she could get me some ice cream. She quickly found our waiter and he quickly brought it out to me. The ice cream didn't work so we decided to sit in a booth which they quickly accommodated. My daughter was very wound up and was being very loud and vocal. No one complained and EVERYONE working took the time to say hi to her and high five her! As a special needs mom I worry about things like this happening and what people will do or say. My boyfriend and I always come here for dinner, so as per usual we come and sit in the regular seating which has no other guest. The server comes up to us and says "Since we don't receive tips from y'all we're gonna add an 18% gratuity or y'all can order to go" me and my boyfriend were taken aback because we do tip and we honestly thought she was joking. I was very surprised because like I stated we do tip & were never rude. My boyfriend also saw the same server standing by the bar giving us a dirty look. I understand what it's like to work in the food industry so I never try to be a difficult guest. The fact that she said they don't receive tips from us is what surprised me. First things first... Is it pronounced itch-ee-bahn? Or ick-ee-bahn? I digress from the beginning, but still I want to know. Let me say that I've never been a fan of these places. I find the food to be mediocre and the performances to be trite, at best. Ichibon, however, does a better job than most of its counterparts. First, the salad they serve... Strangely, I think they use Miracle Whip as the dressing. I hate Miracle Whip. But this concoction works, when tossed with some fake crab and garnished with panko crumbs. The main dishes, as is usually the case in these places, are expensive. I had scallops and calamari. The dish was well prepared. Nothing earth-shattering -- both were cooked too long -- but decent. The fried rice was fine ... just like every other place like this. On the night we went, it was $1 sushi night. I'm not a huge sushi guy, but there was plenty here to choose from and I sampled some at our table. Not bad at all. Finally, service here is outstanding. And they make damn sure that you tip them by adding a 15% gratuity to your check. (No, we didn't have a huge party.) I would typically give a 20% gratuity, but when a business decides what my gratuity should be, I shut down and let them have what they charge -- and nothing more. It's a bad business practice. And it's insulting to call it a gratuity ... and that lost this place a star in my book. It also lost someone a few extra bucks. read more

Ichibon has been here for as long as I can remember. The building is a bit old/outdated, but it's pretty well known in the area. The hibachi tables are basically dinner with a show, and the other side is normal table seating. I generally like sitting at the bar here though because its first come first serve, and I think the service here is slightly faster since there is always a bartender or waiter available in this area. For the food, I personally think there are newer, more modern options available if you're looking for a special hibachi meal. But I would recommend the food here if you're looking for a quick lunch special or if you come during $1 sushi times. $1 sushi times are either Wednesdays from 4 - 10pm or Sundays from 11:30am - 4pm. If you're smart you'll come here either at 4pm on Wednesdays or 3pm on Sundays so that $1 sushi time will overlap with happy hour! Nothing beats some sake bombs and sushi. Or if you're looking for a delicious and healthy lunch, I HIGHLY recommend their "Hawaiian salad." The first time I ordered it, I was surprised how HUGE it was, especially for a lunch portion. Its a giant bed of lettuce topped with cucumbers, tomatoes, seaweed salad, fish roe, smoked salmon, shrimp, octopus, and imitation crab. Paired with their special creamy dressing, and I ask for chili oil and fresh jalapenos on the side, this is the perfect healthy lunch. It's so big I usually end up with leftovers to take home as well. Ichibon may be old, but if they've lasted this long they must be doing something right. I'll definitely be coming back here again for $1 sushi, Hawaiian salads, and sake bombs. read more

The hostess was very rude. First she tried to sit us at The Hibachi side. I pointed out that where she wanted to seat us, the area wasn't clean. "Oh no it's clean." We repeated that the area was not clean. "Oh it's just a few specs of rice." So we decided not to sit there. As I am walking in front of her. She steps on the back of my sandal. So I moved to the side and told her to go ahead of me since she stepped on my shoe and didn't say excuse me. Instead of her saying, "I'm sorry" or "excuse me", she tells me, "But I didn't do it on purpose." I told her she did not tell me excuse me either. I explained to her that she is very rude and unprofessional, and I kept my cool. After her last statement, I just had to ask her to be quiet. My party just left. We all have our favorite places to eat and one of them happens to be ICHIBON , a great Japanese Seafood and Steak restaurant in Webster. The food is hard to beat whether you come for the Hibachi with a great show or for some great tasting sushi, or one of their Bento Boxes, with wonderful appetizers, like crabmeat puffs, ebi mushrooms & fried calamari. Made our experience phenomenal. Now on to the food.. Very fresh and great tasting.. Everything was well prepared from the sushi to the hibachi..... They give you plenty of food. It's definitely well worth it. If your ever in Pasadena and wanting your hibachi fix definitely try them out.. Prices are reasonable. We will definitely return.. My son keeps asking me about it lol. Made reservations on a TUESDAY for a Saturday dinner, upon arrival we told them about the reservations we made. They continued to tell us we had to wait.... AN HR later we still were not sat. So my husband and I have been coming to this place for years, usually on Wednesday for their happy hour. I noticed they changed the tables and settings. It looks a bit nicer, however even though with the change of some furniture, it smelled like urine in the booth we were sitting in. My husband said he noticed the smell as soon as we walked in and the whole place smelled like it. You know... that pee smell at some kind of run down cheap motel? That's the smell.. definitely not appetizing in a restaurant setting... I ordered some edamame and noticed some of them tasted rancid. As if they had been sitting in a fridge with moisture for a long time. Then some of them were fresh and had a snap to them as if they mixed some bad ones with fresh ones. Also ordered a spicy tuna and spicy salmon hand roll. Even though it's happy hour and the sushi is slightly cheaper, I guess that means they don't use sushi grade fish. I had skin and tendons from the salmon coming out and getting stuck in my teeth and for anyone that eats sashimi or any kind of sushi that's raw, fresh fish isn't supposed to smell " fishy ". Or taste fishy either... in fact the fish looked dried out on some parts. I'm really disappointed with the quality of food, and to be honest it wasn't much better when we first started going there 5 years ago, it just wasn't THIS BAD... I will say the customer service is pretty good. They've always had attentive servers and staff. But the ambiance is truly unappealing when the place you're going to be dining in smells like the downtown streets of Los Angeles ... So despite the new furniture, a deep clean is needed... I don't think we'll be returning. Happy hour isn't worth potential food poisoning or contact dermatitis if what you're sitting on isn't cleaned properly... I'll add this to the response from the owner regarding my review. You are absolutely right, I could have brought it up with the server or manager at the time , however, I'm also aware of when making a complaint about your food, the food that is remade and brought back out can come with " extras " in it that you didn't ask for. For example the tip of a writing pen. NOT saying that would happen at your establishment, but I've actually experienced that. So I just leave it as is. Now regarding the $1 sushi; and I'm not sure with the intonation of how the manager brought it up in the response, if it was to insinuate that since we were there for happy hour prices, my complaint is invalidated by that, BUT, whether it's a dollar or $5 , the quality should still be the same, because happy hour prices doesn't determine that the patrons bill will be a small amount... I don't think anyone wants to eat sushi that includes the sinewy parts of the fish... and regarding the smell of urine, I can differentiate between rotten eggs and urine... it was definitely the smell of urine that's been lingering... the smell didn't waft from any of the staff encountered... I've work in the food industry and did multiple clean up shifts in the chow hall , on base ; which feeds thousands of military personnel every single day as a boot camp recruit myself! The smell comes from dirty mop water and cleaning cloths that haven't been sanitized properly! And I was an army medic stationed at a military hospital with a bunch of combat injured personnel who suffered incontinence issues! I can distinctly identify the smell of urine! Thanks! PS. We had a reservation at 6:30, all of the party was present. They began to seat us, took forever to get drink order. Our waitress was taking care of 3 parties at the hibachi grill. She was working very hard and we felt bad for her. We didn't get our chef until almost 8pm. One of my party complained to the manager but nothing was done. We finally got our chef, very entertaining, which we love. The food was not as good as it normally is. We always have tons left over and this time it was very sparse. Our waitress apologized for the long wait, the manager never came over and said anything. Very disappointing evening, this was supposed to be a special birthday dinner.
