Not sure if it's due to covid or if it's just this location, but they are definitely short staffed. I came here on a Sunday to buy cake pans. Luckily they were all on sale for 40% off. I stood in line socially distancing on their markers. The line continued to get longer and longer. Then I realized there was only one cashier. They finally called for another cashier and then there were two cashiers. The line was still really long and moving really slowly. I stood in line longer than it took me to grab my items. The cash registers have plexiglass barriers and cashiers are wearing masks. Note that their bathroom is super gross and hasn't been cleaned in forever. I would hold it or go somewhere else. On my second trip to Michael's on a Wednesday I decided to order online and then do curbside pickup. They received my order just around opening time but didn't start processing it till a couple hours later. A few hour after that of waiting I decided to call the store and check on it. They told me it would be ready in 20 minutes. So basically it took them 5+ hours to get my order ready (only 4 items). I received an email with instructions saying to call when you arrive. There are stalls directly in front of the store next to the handicap stalls. Just drive down the first row facing the store. There was a man that ended up coming to my car before I could even call and he asked for my ID. He then went to get my items and brought it back to my car. Both visits were a little crazy. I'm just gonna say that I think it's due to not having enough staff, but I could be wrong. Hopefully they get more people on board so they can help customers on a timely basis.

Love this craft store. I live a lot closer to Joann's fabric store, but I prefer to shop at Michael's a lot more. Whenever I go, I usually make sure I pull up a coupon because some of their stuff can be quite pricey (which is why I give them four out of five stars). The staff is very nice and helpful though (most of the time). I definitely prefer this store over Joann's or craftwarehouse. I stopped in today and their Christmas seasonal items were 70 percent off. Pretty awesome!

I go here once in a blue moon when I have a 50% off one item deal, and I buy just that. Usually one strand of beads or jewelry findings.

Starlight Knitting Society - Wish I lived closer. Will make this a regular stop on my next Portland trip. Great customer service.

Though they were packed with other shoppers, the staff was welcoming, friendly, and helpful. We each purchased a few skeins of yarn, and my daughter picked up an adorable claw clip in the shape of a ball of yarn with knitting needles. There was a wide variety of yarn, from cost-conscious basics to mid-priced natural fiber staples, all the way to sumptuously decadent fiber yarns at a luxury price point. Their needle selection was robust, their notions and other celebratory yarn-goodies plentiful as well. There is literally something for everyone here! They also have a wall dedicated to cross-stitch/embroidery with super fun kits. I know I missed mentioning something since it was stuffed to the gills with people, and if I'm honest, I was a little overwhelmed, but we look forward to returning soon for a more leisurely amble.

Starlight Knitting Society is my personal Disneyland! I visited the store on my last day of my trip…read moreto Portland and I truly could have spent hours here. First of all, the staff were some of the nicest people I have ever met. They went above and beyond to make me feel welcomed and were happy to answer any questions I had as they came up. They were also extremely friendly and seemed to want to get to know me, what projects I'm working on, and what I was looking for. Second, the selection and prices were unbeatable. Starlight Knitting Society had so many different yarns and crafting accessories to choose from at very reasonable prices. Despite wanting to buy everything in the store, I left with a Starlight Knitting Society tote bag (my new favorite bag to carry my knitting projects in) and a tension ring. I really wish I lived closer to Starlight Knitting Society. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in Portland!

The first moment we walked into Unwind, it felt like home. As a 20+ year knitter/crocheter, I never…read morereally *need* more yarn or tools, with some limited exceptions, but it's always fun to take a gander. Spoiler alert (not to other yarnies): I have made several purchases in the last couple of weeks. My hot‍ take on Unwind: * Wide variety of yummy yarns in various fibers and price points * Great selection of knitting/crocheting tools and notions * Flawless vibes- friendly, warm, supportive, fun shop folks * Fairly-priced, helpful, fun, supportive class opportunities * Lovely fiber arts community If you have time and the inclination, read on for further details. I knew immediately I wasn't going to leave empty-handed. There's a fabulous selection of yummy yarns here, in a variety of fibers (natural and acrylic), at a wide range of prices, which is wholly refreshing! I've been to some yarn shops where they tout that they only carry "natural fibers." While I enjoy knitting and crocheting with natural fibers (hello, alpaca!), sometimes I need an acrylic or acrylic blend for a project that doesn't require me to cash out my 401K (grateful to have one) or need the acrylic boost for care-ability. I love creating gifts for cherished peeps, but we yarnies know there are some recipients you know won't remember to hand wash an item. (Sometimes it's me!) They have a marvelous selection of hooks and needles, accessories, notions, and other yarnie implements. I was giddy to find they have one of my favorite knitting needle brands, KnitPro. I don't care how many knitting needles or interchangeables I have; I can always use another. I'm also excited that they have KnitPro crochet hooks! I bought one in one of my most used hook sizes to give it a whirl. Unwind is full of incredibly friendly and helpful folks. Heather and Anne gave us an extremely warm welcome the first time we visited. Heather invited us to the bi-monthly Tuesday Social Stitch, where folks come together and knit or crochet in the company of other fiber crafters. We had a great time meeting other knitters and crocheters the following Tuesday. I also signed us up for a knitting class. Without getting too kniterdy™, there are two main styles of knitting, English (aka "throwing") and Continental (aka "picking"). I am a self-taught knitter from 20 years ago, using the early days of video tutorials, which demonstrated knitting in the English style. I've always wanted to learn Continental, but since I had strong muscle memory, it was hard to switch over for good and I always reverted to my comfort zone, English style. I saw a Continental knitting class offered by Anne and registered my daughter and me. We had the BEST time learning from Anne. She was fun, engaging, and supportive. We also met a whole other cohort of lovely people that made the class even more engaging. I've been to many yarn shops in 20 years and I can say without hestitation that Unwind is my favorite, by far!

I've been slowly making my rounds to the many new yarn shops since we moved here last summer. I've…read moredriven past Fiber Rhythm several times, but have been waiting to check it out with my daughter. I was excited to FINALLY get an opportunity to stop in during our mom-and-daughter Galentine's Day adventure. There was one person working there, and they were so sweet, friendly, and helpful. That alone would bring me back again and again. Secondly, the space is airy, well-lit, and delightfully organized, which is very conducive to knowing exactly where to get what you need and also lends itself to relaxed meandering when you don't have a specific need, BUT as all yarn-crafters know, the yarn will let you know you need them. I don't make the rules. There's a fabulous selection of premium, affordable basics, natural, and synthetic fibers. The knitting needles and crochet hooks are behind the counter, so you will have to be intentional here. In places where I don't necessarily need any tools but see one, I tend to buy it. (Please respect my privacy on how many size 6 16" circulars I have purchased.) So, in this regard, Fiber Rhythm is saving me (and my pocketbook) from myself! In addition, there are dyes, several kits, and a winder to self-wind your purchases. To be honest, there was much, much more, but I had parked in a spot where I had to move by 4:00 pm, and we got there at 3:49 pm. This was a literal "speed run" through a yarn store. I look forward to visiting again when the parking godz don't require haste.
