Agree with the other reviews regarding service. The two at the front desk, could not be bothered to offer any assistance outside of just ringing up the order. Pretty boring and unengaged experience overall. Asked for a few specific games, the front desk employee (younger lady with black hair) basically told us if we don't see the item on the wall they didn't have it. She couldn't be bothered to attempt to look it up just in case we might have missed it or offer some other suggestions of similar games in stock. That's the type of help we'vereceived at other local game stores, and much more enthusiastically as well. The kind of help that makes you want to come back. People actually interested in gaming, and the gaming community. Decent selection overall, but based on the service alone and the night and day service I've received elsewhere, I can't say I'd come back to do business here. read more

They have a great selection of board games, tables for playing games, paint supplies, Magic cards, figurines, other cards, gaming accessories like dice, and posters. Really love everything they have put into this space. I thought the variety of board games offered was decent with a good cross section of popular games, and 2 player games. They always have what I looking for and Ellie is always my favorite, she's so funny and knowledgeable about Pokémon and always willing to help me find what I'm looking for! They also have bulk Pokémon which is hard to find and it's cheap and well organized even with standard sets separated which helps a lot. read more

Friendly? Yes. Professional? No. When you try and support brick and mortar Collectables stores you are often reminded that young people with no real training are the ones often managing them. You can literally drop 300 bucks at once just to support a store because you want to see these places flourish and have to bag the purchased items yourself. That's not my job lol. To be fair they did look for a cardboard box to carry out said items at my request as it was a few items but alas when no box (in a Collectables store...) was found then it was just the following Hands you a bag and expects you to do it yourself. Self checkout experience lol. On top of that once it became obvious I was there to spend, instead of leaning in and recommending more items I might like they seemed to be in a hurry just to finish the interaction. One employee did give me a free deck protector, which was cool of them. When I asked when new inventory came in (scheduling wise) they immediately said no idea. Look, I know customer service is at an all time low everywhere but an immediate no idea is not the correct response. I tried to mention I was interested in spending a couple grand every 3 months on new inventory for a small discount and they mentioned something to the affect of well I'm not the owner but you can reach out to them if you want. Something to that affect. When will businesses learn that when a patron comes in, looking to spend a lot, you encourage and foster that relationship not half heartedly care about it. Maybe see if the owner is interested in speaking with the patron looking to spend a decent amount every three months. Even if not for a discount lol. Maybe uh making money selling items is good? As I have mentioned in many reviews, I dressed kind of grubby. I like to see how people treat those who look poor and down on their luck. If they care if you are the little guy. In summation, young people with a smug satisfaction at being the current ruler of the small universe referred to as the local brick and mortar collectables store is a one way ticket to people never returning for more sales. Sure there will always be loyal long time patrons but not a growing base of new ones. I'll just spend my money on Pokémon elsewhere. read more

I went in to check out their Magic the gathering selection and to see if they had the new affordable commander deck but stayed for their various board games that they had in stock. The prices were about general to what other game stores would sell but what stood out was how friendly the staff was. They were very welcoming and asked if I had any questions on what I was looking for. The store itself seemed like it was well managed and there were many tables lined up for Magic and pokemon tcg tournaments. It's hard to come across different stores that have a big set up but Batcave Games did a good job of utilizing their space. read more

I could literally go on and on about how much I love this place! I want to start though with some of the other comments about them being rude. You guys need to understand you are going into a magic/Pokémon card store. Generally people that play or collect cards are generally awkward people (like myself). It takes some time for them to open up to you. This isn't a one stop shop. This is your number one card store. Everything I own I have bought from them. I have devolved a relationship with all these people. So much so that they call me if they have a card I'm after. I finished my collection because of that call and I am so so grateful. I was bored and needed to burn some time late at night. I saw a board game place and decided to check it out. They had the most impressive collection of board games I've seen in Clark County. The employee I spoke with was knowledgable and was able to suggest some games based on games myself and girlfriend had previously enjoyed. I went with one of his suggestions, a game called "Azul". I'll admit it: I can be elitist at times. If you buy ground coffee or if you have a Coors Light in your grip then I am judging you. The only reasons to venture into Vancouver is to pit stop for gas on the way to Seattle, to get OTC decongestant that (unlike the crap in Oregon) actually works, and to go to the BatCave. Prices here are excellent and the selection is impressive. The staff and ownership operate the store from passion for gaming not the desire to rip-off 8th graders and turn them into League of Legends addicts. The tournaments are well organized and space isn't an issue for events with 32 or fewer players. If you are there a while, you can take a quick stroll to the BV or enjoy an inexpensive beverage conveniently available in store. read more

Sure it's not a big parking lot (protip there's a burgerville next door you can park at) and yeah there's a bunch of sweaty nerds in there (you're probably one too though). It's also full of great people who really love the games they're playing, buying and selling. The staff are knowledgable and also opinionated (remember, nerds) but that means they have definitive answers when you ask them questions! Isn't that why you're asking after all? Hello, I grew up playing Magic as a young high school student. My first Box was the Unlimited Version. I love Magic The Gathering. Now my children play Magic. BATCAVE GAMES is a great place to buy/sell/trade at. Recently I took my 2 boys to a Midnight Release of the new MTG series. It was awesome. Over the last 3 years I have gotten to know the Employees and the Owner. I must say: MATT has dedicated his store to FUN, and HONESTY. Each person behind the counter has always helped my boys and treated them honestly. (I'm secretly smart and always watching) hehehee. BatCave Games is reputable and awesome. They stand up to MTG rules, regulations and contribute to the local economy in so many ways. Packs are always properly priced and so are the cards. Really really small, even their parking lot only has about five spaces. The selection of board games is sub-par. This probably used to be the go-to hobby shop in Vancouver but not anymore. I'm not sure they can really be considered a hobby shop since they basically only cater to anything Magic. On the good side, they do have a huge collection of magic cards to choose from. But their stuff is way overpriced compared to Vancouver's other hobby shop. $5 to $6 per booster pack compared to a flat $4? Also they claim that their game nights are family friendly but the one and only time that I went was full of really loud teenagers/younger adults talking about incredibly nasty things not fit for a family friendly location. 3 stars just because this is the place where I first got into Magic. read more

This is a great little shop to visit especially if you're into Magic the Gathering. Don't let their small size deter you, their staff have a wealth of knowledge. This is the first game store I have checked out since moving into the Vancouver area. I was slightly disappointed. The place is small, and their selection of board games suffers because of it. There is very little shelf space for games. They did have quite the collection of 'Munchkin' sets, and since I love 'Munchkin', I bought some expansions I did not have yet. This place seems more to cater to 'Magic: The Gathering' players, with tons of accessories, booster boxes, and singles for sale. The guy behind the counter, was himself, searching a box of singles to add to his deck. He was chatting with, what I assume, was a customer (who didn't buy anything) about building decks. If you are into MTG, then this is probably the place for you. However, if you are a board-gamer, there are better places out there that cater to you. read more

We need a place like this in cascade park! My kid was especially excited about magic and Pokémon meets. They have a good selection of cards and board games but the guy at the front counter was not helpful and frankly acted like we were a nuance by entering the location. Places like this will last a lot longer if the employee are open and welcoming... thus expanding the people learning and trying new games. For reals, I don't want to underplay how rude this guy was. I know nothing about the RPG industry. My preconception of a facility would be an adult ran facility by a bunch of guys with an overabundance of acne and no social skills whatsoever. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by the people here at Batcave Games. I came in just recently because I am a big brother to a preteen that is into these Magic type games that involve cards and somewhat eccentric behavior. I am trying to be more involved with Mark so I decided to stop by here cause he cannot stop talking about Batcave Games. When we arrived this particular afternoon we were greeted by this gentleman that knew Mark as a regular. He greeted Mark as if he had known him for many years and looks at me with a little surprise as obviously I'm not the same ethnic background as Mark and he politely asks if I was his stepfather. I chuckled and told the guy that I'm his Big Brother and we had came down here today because he wanted to show me this place. He greeted me as Matt and gave me a brief tour of the facility and it was pretty obvious I knew nothing about what he played so he gave me a quick tutorial of how the game is played. Everyone here at this place seems very friendly as I noticed Mark was greeted by fellow players and was introduced to other players during the time I was here. I was very surprised myself as I was not treated like I was an outcast or somebody just not in the know as Matt explained more details about what other games he had available and looked into ideas for Mark to diversify his hobby. Never once was he ever condescending to me or Mark and the best part was how patient he was with me especially cause I knew nothing about this hobby. He took the time to introduce me to other players at the facility that knew Mark and it makes me feel good not just as a Big Brother but just as an adult seeing this facility of this stature and how warm and welcoming they are to new people and seasoned players as well. I asked Mark later after we left what he thought about this place and what he told me was that this was the first place he went to where he didn't feel like he was treated like the other places where he was not important. He mentioned that whenever he asks questions they don't make him feel dumb and that everyone there is nice to him. I don't have any kids but if I did I would want my kid to be in a place like this where I know he is safe with people that share the same interest as him. A place where it didn't matter how much an individual spent they were valued as customers. After this experience I have to apologize for the people that I have so often have a preconceived judgement of. The people here at Batcave Games are genuinely great people that are passionate about their hobby but don't let their ego take a step ahead of what is the most important thing to them.... Their customers. If you're ever in the hunt for RPG games or anything related to this hobby please stop by here. You'll be as pleasantly surprised like I was how great these guys are here. The Batcave isn't a bad place to play Magic the Gathering by any means. I've certainly played at worse. If it's close by and seems like your gig, you very well may enjoy it. My experiences are limited to a few drafting events which I felt had been set up in a bit of an unprofessional manner. Over the course of a few drafts I felt as if I spent more time waiting for enough players than actually playing the game. The prizes for said drafts were fine and I didn't feel cheated in any way. It was mainly the setup and officiating for these events that I found disappointing. The actual building isn't bad. It resides next to a Burgerville which is nice but otherwise it is pretty nondescript aside from the Batcave sign. Inside it stayed true to its name and felt a bit dark and dingey with two awkwardly separated gaming rooms featuring a motley collection of chairs and tables. The physical setup and appearance could definitely use an overhaul. The review for two stars stems from my experiences here in comparison to other local gaming venues. Batcave felt more like a clubhouse than a storefront gaming establishment. Intentional or not they seem to focus on Magic the Gathering mainly - which is nice if you are just looking for a MtG gig. In closing, don't let the review scare you away and experience it for yourself. I found it comparatively very unimpressive and the fact that it has been a community establishment for so long seems to have made it complacent while the other Vancouver competitors have stepped up their game with larger gaming spaces, bigger crowds, and a more professional setting. read more

I went to CCG house and pretty much got snubbed because I'm new to MTG. Then proceeded to the bat cave as it was the closest shop to me. There is no shop in the Vancouver, Portland area I would rather spend my day at. Great employees that always aim to please, great environment that is both nurturing to new players and challenging to even the most grizzled vets. Prices are always competitive and when they aren't they are open to negotiate if you can prove their prices aren't. But the best part is the owners commitment to make the players happy, tournaments are frequently held that are by players request, from unsanctioned constructed proxy events to reworking the weekly line up to facilitate players needs. 5+ stars. read more

I have been going to the Batcave for over 10 years. This is it's 6th location that I can remember. For being a smaller shop I was surprised at the stock level they had of Magic singles. This is a great store with a very helpful staff. I used to go the BatCave in the 90's during my Pokemon phase and although the store is smaller than the original it hasn't lost its luster. I've gotten into MTG the last couple of years and when I was getting started my knowledge was minimal but they would gladly explain confusing rules, how cards resolved, and anything else I didn't understand thus helping me learn the game quicker. They always make great recommendations for cards to add to my decks even helping me build one practically from scratch (who does that?!) So awesome! I was never spoken to condescendingly like the ignorant newbie I was. This respect is what keeps new players interested in the games. Employees seem to know the regulars very well, like a tight knit group, but still making you feel welcome. Can't say enough about them. Highly recommended. read more
