Micheals is definitely a one stop shop for craft items. I really just wanted a hot glue gun and was quickly able to locate it. Lines weren't too bad and the staff were quick and efficient. I have suffered, and I do mean suffered, along with Michael's Vallejo for 8 years since we moved to Benicia from Alameda, where I loved Beverly's (now gone). Michael's prices are pretty high, IMO, despite the $$ rating. But what REALLY gets me is, TWO of it's stores display as "Gateway", so it's very easy to make mistakes, since the system gleefully changes the store I am shopping (Vallejo Gateway), even when I am logged in, to what IT wants (Fairfield Gateway), and I end up driving first to the Vallejo store (7 miles) and then angrily to Fairfield store (another 23 miles!) to get my item. I only go to Michaels when I need my item today, and by the time I drive to Vallejo and Fairfield, I should have ordered from Amazon! Second HUGE annoyance, and this is the BIG one, whichever store I order from to drive out and pickup items, the store will cancel part or even all of my items without any notice at all. "Your order is ready to be picked up!" and then sometimes I have driven 30 miles to disappointment and anger. Yes, at this point it is anger. Yesterday, I ordered a few things from Amazon and this supply I needed yesterday from Michael's: Jumbo Compressed Charcoal ($3.74) the only thing I needed. But, why drive out for a $4 thing? So I ordered White Compressed Charcoal ($3.74), Vine charcoal sticks ($3.74), and blending tortillons ($1.79), just to make the trip worthwhile (as if!). Got there, grabbed stuff, left quickly, because I was late for an appointment. At home, I see I only got the white charcoal and the blending sticks, and a note on the slip "LM called @2/6 1 p.m." "refund" by the two items I didn't get, and "see cashier". I checked my credit card today, and apparently I have to go back to Michaels and get a cashier to refund me. Man, I really hate Michaels. Grrrr Edit: I did find days later a voicemail from the clerk at Michaels apologizing and informing. After the last 2 iphone updates, I have not been notified of voicemails, and I only came upon it by accident today, trying to find a contact. Customer service via email has attempted to be helpful, lamely, asking for information I already gave and not doing anything about it. What a hassle for about $7. So I'm going to try taking the receipt to the store. read more

Don't do online curbside pick-up if you need items the same day. you're better off going in the store and finding your items. I placed an order and waited 4 hours it was still not ready. I waited even longer for one worker to tell me "it's still in process" with no other explanation when the products I wanted were just right on the shelf a couple aisles away. I just said I'd come back the next day if it's not ready. I understand the store may be short staffed but online orders should be fulfilled if it was placed before a certain time or could've offered an alternative solution? Then I called again they stopped answering. Called the next day nothing .... So be careful doing pick up in store option specifically in this location... so I just let corporate handle this issue. Went here to spend doubtless hundreds of dollars framing a large item. Waited twenty minutes, nobody anywhere. Chased someone down and was told it would be another twenty minutes because the framing worker was "on break." Walked out of store right after. I'm not waiting 40 minutes to spend that much money. People should absolutely be able to take breaks. But Michael's has posted hours that includes the time I allotted to get this framing done. They need to staff their store properly to allow for breaks and also not waste customers time. Do better. read more

I went into the Vallejo Michael's two days this week to grab some decor for my workplace, and both times I was warmly greeted and helped by their employee LeeLee. She was extremely helpful with all of my questions, and she not only answered these questions for me but was extremely helpful in showing me everything I was looking for. She even offered to help me load the things into my car as I had two carts full! Talk about AMAZING customer service. As I'm thanking her for all her help, we start chatting and she tells me she is a full time nurse and works here part time! What a hardworking person who deserves more, a nurse shouldn't have to be working two jobs! Overall, while I was expecting to be impressed with my purchases, I was more impressed with LeeLee's hospitality and kindness. Picking up additions to the Easter Baskets we are building for the little kids. My list: Jumbo eggs Grass Jumbo crayons Baskets Of course anything else adorable to add to the fun. I actually got everything on the list... except for the baskets. They had some but not as large as I wanted. Easter items are on sale for 50% off so that made this visit even better. I also appreciate that the store brands are of good quality. When the Crayola brand was out of stock of the crayons I was seeking, the store brand was readily available. NICE. On my trips to the chain store I noticed there's hardly anyone on the floor to ask questions or get assistance with products. I usually have to go to the register and ask questions. I also noticed the location in Emeryville has self checkout. Ugh... I like to see and talk to people. Lol read more

Horrible store, the employees are even worse. Today when I was there not one acknowledgement by an employee,, no good morning, are you looking for anything, nothing -- it was as if I was a burden shopping being in the open store. I finally go to checkout and all the registers are self checkout. All Michaels have self checkout but they also have one or two people also at a register, not for this anti-social Michaels. Finally after the machine freezing (which was more interaction than I received from any of the employees with a pulse), after not accepting their own coupons, and not accepting my reward voucher I walked out of the store and didn't buy anything. My wife and my 7year old daughter were scheduled to do a rock painting activity today at 10:00am My wife ask the worker," Is a rock painting activity class today"? Worker: "Nope they didnt want to do it anymore" rudely responded. My wife said "oh ok" Worker: "Let me get you a manager " Manager: "Yes, you called for a manager" rudely talking to my wife. My Wife: "Ah no I didn't ask for a manager, I was just saying is there a rock painting class today". Manager: Nope they canceled and said they didn't want to do it anymore " Very Rudely. So my wife and 7yr old daughter were disappointed and they just decided to walk around, for a minutes. After a couple minutes they saw workers setting up a table for the rock painting class. My wife and daughter were confused at this point. My wife ask" so are they gonna do class "? Worker: well I just got off the phone with you, and said were doing the class. My wife: confusingly said" Ah no, I didnt talk to nobody." Worker: Well I got off the phone with someone. Do NOT use Michael's as a UPS Access Point. I dropped off two packages on 1/5. As of 1/12 there were no scans on either, indicating that they had not moved. I called and spoke to a manager named Rowena, who told me that the boxes were not there but coud not tell me where they were. Today, all of a sudden, they scanned in San Pablo. In 8 days they had moved only from Vallejo to the UPS hub in San Pablo. So someone did not do their job and then someone else lied to me about the first person not doing their job.They were not given to the UPS driver until I called. Take your packages to a UPS STore. I've never seen customer service like this before. I had an expensive painting framed there. It was almost $500 for the framing. The framer ruined the painting! She admitted as such and was very honest about it. She said she made the manager aware and was to meet with the manager after talking to me. I asked for the manager but was told she had my phone number and would call me. I've called multiple times and no one will put me on with the manager. They always tell me they will leave a message with her and ask her to call me back. Finally one employee said the manager isn't in many days because she's working "overnights" at a craft store. It's been three weeks and multiple phone calls. I still have not been able to get a hold of the manager. This is wrong. Don't use their framing service if you care about what is being framed. They will not make things right if they ruin your art work. read more

Apart from the fact that this store is chronically understocked and never has what you are looking, for the employees on the floor are mostly cranky when approached and visibly annoyed and unwilling to help. But since we have no other options in Vallejo I end up having to come back here again and again. Today is now the third time that I have ordered items for curbside pick-up and spent 15+ minutes waiting in the car for someone to come out and once again ended up having to go inside myself. DON'T OFFER CURBSIDE PICKUP IF YOU DON'T HAVE THE STAFF TO ACTUALLY DELIVER THE ORDERS!!! This Michaels branch never fails to disappoint & frustrate! read more

If possible, I'd give a negative star, but the star isn't offered. As mentioned in other posts, there aren't enough clerks, or rather clerks who CARE about customer service. When I was trying to pay for some yarn for a non-profit, there was one customer ahead of me. The clerk was trying to help her credit her purchase, so there was quite a lot of back and forth discussion. Meanwhile, another clerk came dancing over for her water bottle. By now, there was a customer in line behind us. Instead of opening another register, she danced off with her water bottle regardless of seeing the two of us in line. I figured Amazon could offer me a better selection of yarn and at a more competitive price. I left and decided to never return to this store. I'll go to Hobby Lobby next time. At least they won't have one register open! read more

Michaels is always the place to go to find all of your arts and crafts needs. Even during the pandemic it's been a pretty place to go, good for people for all ages. I've even been able to order online and easily pick up my things. They're usually stocked and prices are pretty much the same compared to party city, wal mart, and target. The only thing is that there's usually a line a check out. The staff here at this location are always very friendly, they welcome you in, greet you out, and are always willing to help you. We used to get our pictures frames here a long time ago, not sure if that service is still available. read more

So I went earlier today and I found almost everything I needed, but the issue started when I went to pay. The employee at the register suggested I use self checkout, which was fine until I try to apply the $5 voucher, apparently I scanned it incorrectly so it didn't apply correctly and I did not notice until I was done paying. When I asked the original employee, first she asked if I had purchased my items already while holding my receipt in her hand (completely baffled) than she said it was my fault for not applying it correctly. Well can I still get 5$ credit or something? I was told no and had to return everything and repurchase everything. She got the manager at this point. She said the same thing but was very rude. Ok, usually I wouldn't care but I wanted my voucher and they were very rude. So I said ok, return all the items, add the voucher, and I'll buy it again. Which they did, but they kept double scanning, and throwing my items without any regard to the point where things were falling out and they had to give me an extra bag. And when I was done paying, I grabbed my receipt and walked away; and I could hear them laughing (presumably at me). Look, I know the employees are young and customer service can be a lot, but these employees in particular need more training in talking to customers and how to handle difficult situation. And Michaels should have a way to add the vouchers/coupons in these situations especially if they are starting to use self checkout where customers are gonna make mistakes. Ridiculous, I feel completely disrespected and pissed. read more

Buyer beware. I purchased a tool from the jewelry department (a $15 item) only to find a "protection plan" charge ($1.99) had been placed on my receipt. The problem is that I had not been "asked" if I wanted to purchase a protection plan. This is fraud. Luckily I found the charge on my receipt and went back to Michaels to have the charge refunded. We went through the checkout line and as we were about to check out questions asked and items in hand they switched out workers to a new person that I had to ask again and they didn't know how to do it. I used to like this Michael's. Unfortunately it's really gone downhill the past few months. It's messy and unorganized and often dirty. They don't update their stock info so you cannot use the app to find product or see if it's in stock. They seem understaffed as there's no one walking around that you can ask for help. But here's what completed killed it for me: I'm not a Christian and I don't celebrate Xmas, but I'm used to Xmas music being played everywhere this time of year. What I don't want to hear is gospel music. I'm at Michael's, not an openly fundamentalist store like Hobby Lobby or Chick Fil A. I don't want to hear songs about "our lord and savior Jesus Christ" when I'm just trying to purchase some ink and paper. This Michael's has nothing to offer me anymore. Sad. read more

I went into the Michaels store to return several items. As I am a member of their rewards program the no receipts are required when returning items. Their computer system could not locate several of the items that I had recently purchased at this same location and the manager said that she could only offer store credit. I called their corporate office the next day at 8:00 AM and was told that a district manager would contact me. I called back after 4:00 PM and talked to a manager who told me that he would send me copies of my receipts to my email so that I could obtain my cash refunds. Ironically I received an email from Michaels this afternoon asking me to update my information and stating again that receipts were not necessary when returning items. I had made several returns without any problem and am disappointed at the way I was treated. read more

I came in today to purchase some holiday decorations. I know sometimes online inventory does not match what they physically have IN store and I couldn't find anyone on the floor to ask about a tree that I was looking for. I grabbed 2 trees and when I was finally checking out Lily was the cashier to "help" me. I simply asked her to check a price on one of the trees and she right away told me that next time I could price check my items on my own at the price check machine down the aisles.....I know that, but I am asking at the register since I am already there. I then proceeded to ask about the tree that I was looking for as online it stated that they did have it in stock, but I just needed a little help. I asked Lily if she could look up the item number for me and she bluntly said no because whatever was out is all they had. A simple "I can double check for you" would've sufficed. I was honestly irritated and annoyed at that point. Not only that, she looked like she was rushing the customer before me as I overheard her tell the customer "I don't want to hold up the line." I also felt like she was rushing me the way that she was "helping" me. By the end of my interaction with her I had to ask for her name as she wasn't wearing her name tag, and had to ask her twice. These people lost a package I dropped off for UPS. They are an official UPS drop off location, but beware! They provide no receipt and put it in a very unsecured locker behind the open edge of the front desk. After repeated attempts at clearing up the situation with the store manager I got what amounted to a shoulder shrug. Infuriating. DON'T EVER DROP OFF A PACKAGE THERE! The store employs a bunch of unprofessional women who don't give a damn about the customer. Yea I did say that to hopefully offend and piss them off like they did me. I had to refund my customer and am out $60.00, not to mention the headache of beating my head against a wall of indifference when I tried to locate my missing package. UPS sucks too. read more

There have been many little things that gave me a negative impression of the Vallejo Michaels; poor signage - incorrect pricing in the aisles - incorrect pricing at the register - service people who don't know the product. I finally had enough and started ordering online. My last purchase was set up for instore pickup. Easy, right? Easy, no -- Three behind the registered and only one helping customers. After awhile, I get to hand the staff person my receipt, an actual printed receipt for once. She wanders off and then starts shouting at me about my purchase and my name. I hustle clear down the row of unmanned registers, trying to regain some bit of customer privacy. I give her my name and ask her, "Isn't that info on the receipt?" "Oh," she says, "there it is." Then, "Your name start with a 'H?'" Then I notice that all the lettered bins are empty except for the "H" bin with my merchandise. This is when the the manager feels like she needs to step in, by yelling from four aisles away. I pipe in with, "Can you just let her finish with my transaction?" Her reply... "Sir, I am just trying to help her find you stuff." Now my sass mouth comes on with, "You mean this 'stuff' right here?" And, "Can I just take it?" The salesclerk nods. My suggestion, avoid this big box store and shop mom & pop in Vallejo. If you can't resist, stay away from the weekend manager. read more

I always enjoy coming in Michael's. Back when I was scrapbooking, then trying to think of crafty idea's for xmas/vday gifts, bakery supplies, and now swarovski beads and chains. I think when it comes to most things, Michael's is reasonably priced. Then again, when you're from Vallejo do you really have a choice? Its the only craft store in the entire town! But I do love the atmosphere that just whisks you away and allows you to think of all these things you can create. Not to mention their frequent 40% off single item and 20% off entire purchase coupons! When it comes to swarovski crystals, I'd rather look elsewhere. You can find better deals on the internet or even etsy! But for everything else, I will happily continue to come here! read more
