Concert poster, from 2014. Now happy in its new frame !.
    Sean C.

My experience with Michelle and Misty today at this store location left me with one of the best customer service interactions ever. Earlier this month I bought a 12x18 frame for a concert poster that's been on my wall unframed since 2014. Unfortunately the frame that I'd bought, broke the minute I got home. Last Saturday 12/1/18 I returned to the store location to exchange the frame for a new one. Unfortunately the store was completely sold out. Michelle and Misty stepped in at this point and went way above and beyond my expectations. They offered me a new frame at a higher value because the store could not provide the same original frame. This matters, because money matters; and because I know that they did not HAVE to do this for me. It is because they understood my situation and they stepped in like true professionals. This experience and interaction left such an impact on me. I am still truly excited, relieved, validated and grateful!.

This is the yarn I found on our last visit to Michael's.

It's always a toss up if I'll find something I need in here or walk out empty handed. Yesterday I had an ad for yarn on sale, which I found some really good stuff. Plus a coupon for 40% off a regular priced item. So my husband got a Star Wars shirt really cheap. I don't buy much from the store, typically stick to yarn. So my knowledge of the store isn't spectacular. The selection doesn't seem that great for how big the store is. The staff is kind of in the middle on being good or bad. There were two employees working last night. A male and female. The guy almost ran into me with two rolling trash cans, acted like I was in his way as he was sweeping, and never asked if I needed any help. The female was the cashier and she was super nice and helpful. She talked to me about the coupons and sales because I had asked if I could use my coupon on sale items, or if they were excluded. That's where my husband ended up with his shirt because it was full price. She was very patient while he went back to find what he wanted, and wasn't rude when other people got in line behind us. I appreciate how patient and knowledgable she was. It's a store I go to fairly often, mostly for sales and to see if they've got different colors of yarn I want in stock, or stock up during sales. Obviously, I'll keep returning. It's not a bad store by any near means. It can just be over priced and not have what you're looking for. Always a gamble.

    Shadow box for shell lei

VERY pleased with this custom-made shadow box that the team at Michaels / Aaron Brothers Framing made. This is a precious Niihau shell lei that I recently inherited from my auntie in Hawaii. They made it so the door can open, so that I can wear the lei on occasion. They loved the challenge of coming up with idea how to do (since shadow boxes are normally closed/sealed & item inside are secured permanently). GREAT JOB!!

This shop has been in Eugene for almost 100 years and has been in the hands of a single family (though I think in 2024 the ownership will change). I wonder how many other businesses have remained in Eugene for that long--especially that have remained in a single family for so long (maybe Dot Dotson's?). On my recent visit home I dragged my mom here with the kiddo. The shelves were a bit bare, which was a little sad and I think probably a result of online shopping. But they had some games, modern board games, lots of train stuff, remote control toys, and so on. I bought a cute little stuffed bat for the little one because it was the one she showed interest in out of those I showed her, and it made her laugh when I moved it around and its wings flapped. Haha. I know that Eugene Elites did a volunteer event here which is so awesome. It's great that the shop partnered with them on it. Support local businesses!

My husband was looking for a small local toy store to go buy a birthday gift for our baby nephew. So this is the store we picked. We'd planned to go to Target as a backup plan. I'd also fully expected we would go in here and find something and have to buy it on Amazon because it would be significantly cheaper. But that wasn't the case, and that made me so happy. Their prices are absolutely reasonable, even for things that are normally insane and overpriced. I was really impressed. The staff that are working clearly love their job and are incredibly helpful. They greeted us when we walked in, let us explore, and answered all of our questions, taking us to certain aisles and showed us things. We were definitely welcomed in the store. We ended up buying two toys for our nephew's first birthday, and I'm definitely coming back when Christmas comes closer. This is such an amazing small local business to support and everyone should take the time to stop by.

I've…read moreshopped there several times and basically enjoy it. most of the younger workers there are pleasant and accommodating. Whenever I'm on that side of town, I make excuses to go there. Today I called to inquire to see if a graphic novel was in stock. The guy on the phone told me he didn't have "old stuff like that" ...when I'd purchased something like it from his store mere weeks ago. He told me to "come in and look for it" and we hung up. He'd been very brusque, and I hadn't felt good about the interaction, so I tried calling a few minutes later to say that I didn't feel valued as a customer, but I didn't get to complete my sentence. He told me he didn't have time for me and that "they were a busy comic shop on a Wednesday." Cool. I called Radar Toys and Nostalgia Collectibles and asked them for the same graphic novel. The first politely asked me to hold while they looked through their computer inventory, then apologized that they didn't have it. The second recognized the book and also apologized that he didn't have it. Y'know. Basic customer service stuff. A customer calls because they're hoping to make a purchase. If that's frustrated or met with indigence and condescension, why would they patronize your store? I don't like posting negative reviews, but I still feel gross about the interaction. I don't plan on returning to the store again anytime soon because of it. the other stores I mentioned have better prices, are closer to me, and have much better service.

My husband and I have been playing lots of board games with both friends and family lately. So I had to go check it out. If you're a board game player, need dice for D&D or card sleeves for Star Wars CCG, this place is amazing. They have brand new games, consignment used games, and basically everything you could ever want. The employee working when I went in was super helpful, talked to me a bunch, answered questions, and clearly enjoyed his job. This store is slightly cheaper than buying board games from Barnes and Noble, which is awesome. Usually local stores are more expensive, but that isn't the case here. This makes it even easier to support a small local business and nothing makes me happier than that. Would I return? Repeatedly! I will definitely be back and become a repeat customer. Another great bonus is Xicha and Toxic are just minutes from here. So it's the perfect excuse to grab dinner and a new game for game night in the same trip.

They have several tables set up in the back for folks to play games from the store's collection, or you can bring your own and play. They do have a good store collection if you're looking for something to try, or you can buy something off the shelf and give it a whirl! I was here once with someone who was looking for some novelty version of a Catan or something and the guy seemed a little snooty about it... or maybe it was Tixket to Ride? Anyway it might not be a game he plays but he works in a game shop so it would make sense to know about upcoming releases, and not say that it's not something he's interested in so he doesn't know. Board gamers can be snobby, but TTR is good and though it's not my #1 fave (that's Grand Austria Hotel), it's fun. They do have a really good selection of games here; I picked up my copy of Splendor here, as well as the Lanterns: The Emperor's Gifts expansion, and they have many of the standards like Brass, Catan, Carcassone, Dixit, and so on. I think but don't know if they buy used games, so give them a call if you have them. This store is actually the small one from my understanding. Their flagship is in Medford, which I haven't been to, but I think that's also where their distribution arm is as well. I have Kickstarted a LOT of games and it's always cool to see it's coming from Funagain; feels like supporting a hometown/near hometown business. Parking can be difficult here depending upon the time of day, events happening at the store, and events happening in the neighborhood. Luckily the LTD station isn't too far away so that is a solid transportation alternative.
