Large store and more inventory. Better size and not as cramped feel than the Pasadena location.

I have never had such an irritating, stressful or bad experience at a Michaels before. On October 21st I placed a special order for 14 glass vases for my centerpieces at my wedding reception. On the day I placed my order I was guaranteed they would be there by November 9th unless I received a call letting me know if they got there earlier. Okay, awesome. No problems that day, excluding the extremely rude check out clerk that barked at me when I was unaware of where the non-existent line started. A simple "Excuse me, but the line starts there" would suffice. You don't need to speak to me like I'm a hard of hearing idiot. November 9th rolls around, no call letting me know my vases arrived early, so, under the assumption when I'm guaranteed something will be there by a certain day it'll be there, I made the 30 minuet drive from where I live to the store. When I arrive I go to the back to pick up my order. The girl working there looked completely confused when I told her I had an order to pick up, she took my name and went to the back to get my order. After waiting for a good amount of time she comes out an tells me it's not there. Okay, I'm annoyed, yeah, but fine. She then tells me they'll be there within a few days and will call me when they arrive. November 15th comes. It's been a day short of a week since my order was "guaranteed" to be there. Still no call. So I call the store, I was on hold over 20 minuets waiting for a manager to pick up. I finally got fed up and hung up. I call back about an hour later and finally get to speak to a manager. She goes looking for my order, now, by this point I'm annoyed. When she finally comes back informing me my order IS there, I'm pissed. I mean, really? Nobody bothered to call me. Tl;dr During the whole process of planning my wedding I've been the coolest and most collected bride ever. On top of it, manners matter. But this store actually got me to the point where I was giving some nasty attitude. This store has no structure, communication with one another and needs a terribly overdue update on the store it self, organization (it's a big jumbled mess,) possibly a change of employees, an attitude adjustment and a lesson in customer service. The only good experience I had here was the very polite and quick to work men in back at the framing area. read more

Unfortunately this location is not wheelchair friendly. The doors are very heavy and difficult to open (they asked me to exit through the closed door for COVID reasons), the aisles are narrow, and they leave boxes of things they are stocking on the floor in the middle of aisles even when nobody is stocking the shelves. read more

This Michael's is usually less busy, but now I know why. I received some of the worst customer service I have today. Tried to use coupons, and read all the small details on them. Was told my items didn't qualify with no reasoning behind it. No help at all, I said "I would get the item if the coupons work" which the employee responded, "ok then goodbye". Will never visit again, especially as the codes fully worked on michaels.com, but then the shipping was $15.98. read more

This store renovated a couple of years ago and it was definitely an improvement. It's a huge store and there's tons of parking. I prefer this store location over the others I've gone to (Pasadena, Santa Monica, etc). There are a ton of craft supplies for quite a few hobbies including beading, painting (the spray paints are locked up), knitting and of course, one of the fastest growing hobbies in America, scrapbooking. It seems almost half the aisles on the left side of the store are devoted to scrapping. There must be three aisles alone of just ribbon, not to mention endcaps, bins and free standing displays. They recently started carrying recognizable scrap paper lines and sorted it that way rather than by color which to some would be helpful if you want to go straight to certain lines instead of hunting for them. The Martha Stewart stuff has its own section. Michaels usually offers 40% off coupons in the paper. Once I was able to buy a ruler for less than a buck because I had a coupon (it's actually a shame I wasn't able to buy anything else but I do already have enough art supplies to practically open my own store). My only wish is they have more people working on the weekends. The lines get really long. I don't want to but I seem to also end up here during their most busy times which would be Christmas. It's worth it though to get some plain ornaments to decorate for those last minute tree-decorating parties I seem to get invited to. This review is solely based on my negative customer service experience. I came here earlier today to get some crafts for some home-made gifts and was helped by a lady at a cashier with short hair, crazy two-toned eyeshadow colors and rhinestone pink acrylic nails. She was beyond rude, not even greeting me when I got to the register. She rang up all of my items without even looking at me. What's worse is after she was done ringing up all my items, I had to ASK her what my total was because she didn't even bother to tell me. After I swiped my card and she handed me my receipts, I grabbed them from her and left without saying a single "thank you." This store's stock and supplies are endless, they have pretty considerable prices and most of the time the staff is helpful and friendly but this biatch lady completely crapped all over my positive Michaels experiences. read more

I came here hoping that the bad reviews would mean a less crowded Michael's during the 3-hour 40% off sale. AND I WAS RIGHT! Unfortunately, the reasons for the smaller crowd were due to reasons like bad customer service and a location that's inconvenient to get to (not too much else around). I saw one of the associates yelling at a customer who was inquiring about custom framing. The customer wasn't understanding how the layout of the framing would be... and the associate just kept yelling at her. Selection is okay, probably not as much as the Pasadena store, but they do have their containers/organizers in a section on display, so you can actually see the different varieties of boxes and stuff. When you go to Michaels or any store for that matter as a customer you expect some customer service after all if they did not have customers how would they receive a paycheck?..... WORSE RETAIL EXPERIENCE, DON'T SHOP HERE. I came here yesterday 4/18/13 around 5pm to buy some things for my little cousins. The lady who rang me up (wore a pink shirt, not sure if her name is Cindy) had some kind of attitude. On my way out the door I noticed I was charged a different amount for one of my items. So I came back in to ask her if it was the price I saw on the shelf. Her answer: "I don't know" with an angry tone. Didn't even look at me just looked somewhere else, and ignored me. LADY I should be the one that is angry. She didn't even bother to ask another customer service person to help me. Just pushed me aside and called up another customer to the counter. WOW super unprofessional. At this point, I've had enough so I went in line and just returned the item. Had someone had helped me and just told me the price on the shelf was a mistake, I wouldn't mind paying another price for it. Micheal's in Monrovia, you've just lost a customer. I knew I had to stop by to check out their Halloween decorations. Overall, I was impressed with their wide selection. I went on 9/19/18 and almost every item was between 30-70% off. I'm disappointed in the fact that during my entire visit I was never approached by a sales associate. When I got in line to check out, there was only ONE cashier. Keep in mind, there is one guest checking out and eight other guests waiting in line. Is this Michael's understaffed or just disorganized? read more

I'm on the way to my friends place early on a Saturday morning since we were making a Domokun birthday cake (yes you read that right) and I remembered I didn't buy any fondant!!!!!!!!!!! I was freaking out for a second, but I remembered that there was a Michael's off the 210 so here I came! It was easy to find and even early in the morning the employees were nice. Yay! The staff here was really nice. When I came in everyone said HELLO to me. EVERYONE. I felt like wow... that's so nice! :D I got my coupons with me (50% off Martha Stewart, 40% one item, 20% all)... and the lady was so nice to let me use them all! So I really got a great deal on my stuff! (I JUST got into crafts!) Their selection was limited in the stamps and mini punchers, but I wasn't really looking for that stuff. I bought a frame here on Christmas Eve. The frame came with a outer clear wrap. The glass broke during unwrapping because the wrap was stuck on too tightly to the glass. I tried to take return it and they wouldn't take it back. What really pisses me off is that the store was absolutely unsympathetic. The store manager had a very lackadaisical attitude towards the whole thing. She showed no interest in dealing with my issue and only came over after the cashier repeatedly called for her. The message I got from her was simply that she didn't care and it's not her or the store's problem. I think her name was Marco. This particular store was depressing too. When I was in high school I used to go to the Rowland Heights store for supplies for class. That store felt upscale and cheerful. This store feels like a warehouse and a Pic N Save all rolled into one. I'm not coming back here at all. I've returned stuff at other stores (Walmart, Target) that was way more broken than the frame, and it was always no questions asked. I'm a crafty person when it comes to holidays. Got ribbons, paint, Styrofoam balls ect. I got to say, everytime I've been here to buy paint or ribbons, its so cheap, for such pretty colors and designs! As for most of their products, its way to expensive! To the point where its just simply ridiculous and not funny. The staff I've encountered were really sweet and nice. They even lead me to the aisle where I needed what I wanted, and even showed me where IN the aisle. LOL. Like literally, one of them took me across the whole store for a tiny thing. As for the lines.. its just a facepalm. ALWAYS only TWO cashiers open. Speed of them? Snail pace. I just don't understand how hard it is to just scan, pay and leave! I mean are you reading each and every scanned item on the screen or?! The lines are just so long. I only had one color paint to pay for, and I had to wait 20 minutes. If you ever have the unfortunate bad luck of getting Frances as a cashier, older short woman with black hair who looks like she has a pissed off look on her face, be prepared to be scolded or her just being straight up rude to you. The poor woman whom she was helping before me was digging in her wallet for change and Frances made sure to "remind" her she owed $.61, the woman nicely said, "I know, I'm trying to get the change out". Then after finishing her transaction, the woman hadn't even gotten all her stuff off the counter before Frances called me to the counter. When I went up there, my hands were completely full because they had no carts. While she's ringing me up I'm trying to pull up a coupon on my phone, Frances takes a phone call and I finish pulling up the coupon. Then she scolds me by saying "we ask Thay all customers have their coupons ready BEFORE they get up to the counter". I said, "Yeah I get that but my hands were obviously full and couldn't do that". Don't think she was expecting me to respond to her that way so she backed off. If this is her attitude all the time, then she shouldn't be at the counter or any position that requires interaction with the customers. read more

I was in the area and I went to the Micheal's in Upland. The girl who rang me up did not put one of the item's I had purchased in my bag. I did not find out until I got home. I called the store and informed them. I asked if there was anyway that I can get that item at a Micheals near me and have my purchas honored. I did not want to drive 30 miles to get that one item. She informed me that the decision will be up to the manager at the store I go to. I went into this Monrovia location and spoke to the manager, I believe her name was Norka. She did not give me any trouble. I showed her the reciept and explained the situation and she took care of it for me and I got my item. It was a slightly different item but the same price. I was happy with it. Thank you for taking care of me. You saved me time and a 30 mile drive. I truly appreciate it. Also, the store was very clean and orginized. read more

This is my last time i shop at the Michaels in Monrovia .Today i went there to buy some flowers and couple TYs .When i checked out, I gave them a coupon its belong to ACMOORE crafts store . The cashie does not know what it is ,then call her Manager come to help. She has looked at the coupon and said they not accept the coupon because its from the third party. I said its from ACMOORE but she is not even know what i am talking about. I showed her Micheals policy and it say they accept coupon from all other Crafts stores. At the end ,she still say no i can not accept ACMOORE coupon .The way she looked at me like i am using a fake coupon or some things, I think Michaels store should training the Manager of this store (monrovia, ca) and make sure they spent a lot of time to read over and over Micheals policy.I do not want to waste my time at Michaels anymore. read more

This is by far the best Michaels I've been to in Southern California. It's large, organized, and well stocked. The prices were also comparable to other Michaels I've been to (the one in Irvine was a little more expensive). The employees range from apathetic to very nice. Compared to the nightmares that are the Pasadena and Santa Monica stores, this location is heaven. The down side is that for suck a large store, they seem to have not enough staff. I had a question about getting some replacement blades which were locked up and I had a difficult time finding a staff person to unlock them for me. How does this store even stay open? The shelves are unorganized, and the customer service is non-existent. Since Aaron Brothers in East Pasadena closed, I needed to come here with an unusual framing need. I don't know why I thought they might be able to help, because of course they didn't have what I needed. However, my complaint is with the lack of customer service of this store. This afternoon I was ignored repeatedly by Anthony at the framing counter. I'm sure there are competent employees here, but I can't remember any. Definetely a more efficient store now that they changed the cash register set up. The line moves smoothly, but only when they have sufficient cashiers. I stood in line for 15 mins because they only had one cashier available. I am extremely disappointed with my curbside pick-up experience. I placed my same day pick-up order at 2:40 pm, before the 3 pm deadline the website shows. Well 10 minutes before the store closes I still have not heard from them so I drive down there and am told by the rude curbside lady that my order was placed after the deadline. I pulled up my receipt which clearly shows it was placed at 2:40 pm and the lady still insisted that I had missed the deadline and to come back tomorrow quite rudely, as if I was stupid. I really needed my items by tonight and I am very disappointed by this experience and will likely not return. read more

Worst experience I've had for a long time in a retail store. I went there looking for oil pastels. I found some but there was no bin label. I went to the front and they were happy to give me a price check. The product was over my budget so I went back to the art section looking for something else. I found a number of bin labels that said "Oil Pastels". Some of them were stocked with other items, and some were empty. I found an employee and asked if they had any oil pastels. He told me they hadn't had any in stock for a long time and I should check Walmart. Are you kidding? Michaels is supposed to be an art store. One point off for that. I started looking for an alternative and I found some cool watercolor pencils. They were in a spot with a bin label that said $16.99 and there were two packages there, so I assumed they were in the right place. I found some cool paper which was next to a sign that said "40% off" and they seemed to match the description on the sale sign, so I grabbed two. Then I found a cool shadowbox and went to check out. When I got to the front of the line, I noticed the paint on the shadowbox was scuffed, so I said, "This one is messed up," and I went to get a different one. The rest were in far worse condition, and since the shadowboxes were 40% off I just returned to the front with the first one I had and said, "This one was actually the best one, all the others were worse," and the cashier shrugged and said, "Okay," and rang me up. I was a little peeved that he didn't offer me 10% off or something since the merchandise was damaged, but I let it slide. Then he rang me up and everything went downhill. The pencils rang up as $24.99 and the paper was not 40% off. I was sure that had to be incorrect so they did a price check for me. When the lady came back with the correct prices, the verdict was that I was wrong. Apparently everything was just in the wrong spot and I misunderstood the sale sign. I walked out without buying anything, because I had just wasted a bunch of time looking for a gift and there was no way to tell how much anything cost because it was all in the wrong spot. Usually I check bin labels, but you shouldn't expect your customers to compare 10 digit UPC codes for every item in your store. That's ridiculous. Also, if you don't have an item in stock, take down the bin label. Don't stock something else there and then tell the customer they are wrong unless you want to lose that customer. read more

I love shopping at Michaels and this location is always clean and well organized but the customer service is not great. I don't think I've ever been greeted going into the store or while I'm shopping around. I went in today to pick up a few things and I walked passed the same associate a couple of times as I was shopping and I wasn't greeted, which I don't mind but I didn't even get a friendly smile lol. There was a few people in line as I headed to the registers and only one cashier but another associate quickly hopped on to help with the line, which was nice. I checked out with an associate named Gianna, I believe. She didn't really make an effort to make conversation so I didn't either. This was my favorite Michaels until today. Cindy (surprisingly) the manager provided the worst customer service I have ever received at a Michaels. If I could give her a zero, I would. She should be fired immediately. I was so upset that I left (after she rung up me up) and didn't purchase a thing. I rather give my business somewhere else. I don't come to this Michaels often, I usually go to the one by my job but since I was on my way home I decided to stop into this one. I was having an issue with an unfriendly checker who basically was making me feel like I didn't know how to read the discount tag. She kept telling me I was wrong and there was no tag at all. Now you all know what the discount tags look like, a piece of paper hanging over the shelves that says "40% off whatever the hell you're buying" So I'm thinking "maybe I just didn't read something right" so I walk back with Esmeralda (who was amazing) and there, in plain sight, a sign that says "40% off" the other checker who shall not be named because she was definitely rude to not just me, but other customers in front of me, didn't try to help solve the confusion at all, she just kept telling me it was ringing up full price and didn't call anyone to check until I asked. But all in all Esmeralda was amazing. She was helpful, went on search mode with me, and was way more personable than the raincloud I dealt with earlier. So the 5 stars are for Esmeralda and her wonderful customer service. Thanks girl! read more

I love Michaels, really, I do. But this store....I don't know that I would willingly walk into this store again. Don't get me wrong, they offer the same stuff as other Michael stores, it's a nice size, and the staff are pretty nice. But, when I was browsing the aisles yesterday, I turn the corner from the beading aisle and, lo and behold, what is this on the floor? Paint or poop? It's diarrhea brown and looks like someone has walked through it...I wanted to give it the benefit of the doubt that it was just paint, but the stench in that aisle was telling me otherwise. I definitely got out of there as quickly as I could. I can't believe someone did that in a store!!! read more

Wow! The people that work here are all idiots. Came in looking for an "S" shape (in whatever they had it in). The first idiot said they didn't have anything like that (impossible). The second idiot brought me to wooden letters (oh... We are getting closer). I asked if they had it in any other material (we were specifically looking for something nicer to be part of a centerpiece). The idiot said "no" that's all they had. My husband and I walked around and found two other forms of "S's" but we need more than one. We went back to the the idiot and he was shocked we found what we needed. We asked if he can check if there were more. He stated "that's all we had" and then asked if we wanted to be on their mailing list for coupons. Lol. I stopped by this store on my way home to find some markers to write on wine glasses with. When I entered the store the staff was no where to be found. When I finally found someone he was as helpful as he could be, but he didn't really know what I was talking about and directed me to the wrong product, easy mistake. Another salesperson then began to help me, but as I started to ask her questions she snapped at me and told me that there were no good products. I had visited a the diamond bar location yesterday, and they had the markers I wanted but the wrong colors. I will probably not be visiting this location again. I like Michaels but wish the sales person could have used a better tone and that someone could have taken me to the products other then pointing to the back or over there. read more
