Today, I placed an order for photo storage cases and picked them up curbside. I was in a hurry and decided not to go into the store. Pluses: The website is well designed and user friendly. Descriptions of products are detailed. You are informed of the location where the items are available and amount available. You can pick up curbside if you like. You can decide when you arrive at the store. Curbside pickup was fast and efficient. In addition, staff member was pleasant. Calm, orderly parking area. Michael's has an excellent variety of photo supplies including stock frames, mats, storage cases, and photo albums. They even offer custom framing but I think their prices are high in spite of the coupon discounts offered. TW: Racism/profiling I went to Michael's within an hour of the store opening to get items for a project I'm making for a friend. I walked in and I wasn't greeted as I went to the jewelry section of the store. My friend gave me a general idea of what she wanted the piece to look like so I wanted to take my time looking through the jewelry section to find what she'd like. While browsing I noticed an employee come nearby to stock or something. I still wasn't greeted or asked if I needed help, even though I had been standing there for a while looking around. I realized I had forgotten my gift card in my car so I put the one item I had, back on the peg where it came from. I walked out to my car and returned less than a minute later to 2 employees searching the area I was browsing as if looking to see if I stole something. I left them to continue looking for nothing and started browsing on the other side of the isle, not wanting to interact with them at this point. I needed help finding a replacement zipper but I was so uncomfortable/anxious that I used the Michael's app to look at the map of the store to find it. Throughout my time in the store I was followed/looked for and a few employees stayed in the jewelry section while I was shopping elsewhere. It was early so I was 1 of at most 10 people in the store at the time and I was the only POC. I used the self checkout and only when I started to leave an employee spoke to me and said "have a good day." read more

Michael's has a poor business plan. You can do much better shopping their online website than you can shopping in the store. I started an order online and decided to go to the store to inspect the product in person. The price in the store after applying the coupons was 20% higher than the same order online. You can stand in the store and order online and "pick up" your order while at the store and pay less. It requires an employee to gather your order. There is no incentive to go to the store and shop. They are giving up impulse purchases. What the hell is the idea of charging less online? They supposedly match the prices of other retailers but won't match their own online prices? This business is aggravating and so unpleasant to work with. Avoid shopping here. read more

I discovered I needed some Testors spray paint for a model I was building. Unfortunately, the local hobby stores are usually closed on Sundays and Mondays so I came here. Thankfully, they had one can left which went home with me. I like most craft stores but usually get lost finding stuff because they all seem the same on the inside. Here, the staff knew exactly where stuff I needed was located including some odd things like paint pens. Their bead selection was a lot smaller than other places, though I only noticed that because I was looking for a certain style of bead which they didn't have. That being said, it is a good craft store that gets really busy on the weekends so come at other times if at all possible. read more

This is certainly a place to shop during the holidays! The store was larger than I expected, and because it's a Michael's, it's got all the better quality artificial flowers and plants, candles at a discount, and arts and crafts items. It would be difficult NOT to find what you needed for your hobby supplies here. At the same time, I kinda feel sorry for "the little guys," i.e., anyone who wanted to start up a small arts and crafts store on their own, because stores like this can just supply so much in bulk for such good prices. read more

Above average Michael's, with the frame shop in the back to allow a better flow through the front of the store, and a seeming sea of artificial flowers just now. The atomsphere is a bit more open and pleasant and thus less oppressive, although perhaps it was in part because I went when the store wasn't very crowded - either way, I'll take it. I found they had more things, somehow, than similarly-sized Michael's - this one had more specialty off the rack frames and kid activities, for example. It suffers a little from the usual "just in time" front register clerking problem -- wait for a line to back up, then call in extra cashiers, who may or may not show up -- but this is endemic to this style of store these days. i got attentive help with a special request item in the back of the store midday, though, so thumbs up for that. It's a little tricky to get to, since you have to go in via the "Crossings" entrance off 146, which is easier to do going east than west but still requires braving the weird interchanges. read more

I experienced amazing customer service tonight! I am a realtor and give paintings of the home they just purchased as closing a gift. With paintings in hand I went to look for custom matting and frames. With the frames laid out on the floor I started looking at different color matting when the gentleman from the framing department approached and help me select colors that really made the paintings pop. Well it didn't stop there he then carried everything over to the framing department and rematted my paintings and put them in the frames. Next he wrapped each painting so the frames wouldn't get scratched. Not only was there no additional charge it was a buy one get one sale on the frames and he was pleasant the entire time. As Michael's go, this one isn't bad, it's funny that there is another Michael's in Latham Farms that sometimes has some very different stock on hand! I actually go to both, Clifton Park and Latham, depending which I am closer to and what I am looking to find. A pretty good scrapbooking section at this one, and very pleasant staff. I will definitely be back again. Be sure to sign up for their coupons, or get the app if you have a smart phone because it's always good to have a coupon handy when visiting! read more

I am thoroughly upset with my experience at this branch. I normally love spending hours in craft stores, but this store had me running out of the door. First of all, the items I needed were not on the shelf- so I asked for help. Twenty minutes and three attempts later of asking for help, and being told I don't work in that area twice, she said well it's not on the shelf... I politely asked if she could scan it and let me know if there was any in the back room or on order. I received attitude and a huff and she walked away. I assumed she didn't want to deal with an upset 37 week pregnant woman! I started walking away and she yelled to me, "it's on order for next Monday". Ok no big deal. I'll come back. Then as I'm standing in what was a cluster of people at the checkout, because there was one checkout open with no one there, I realized I forgot my coupon. People started arguing over who was going first and so on because there was about 10 people standing there. When someone finally noticed we were standing there, I got to the front. I asked if there was the 40% off coupon in the paper that I could use, since I forgot mine at home. The cashier looked at me and laughed and said, "that's not how we do it." Seeing as I spend a majority of my time in craft stores, being a teacher and my grandmother working in a branch, I know from previous forgetfulness that, in fact, it can be done. I called here this morning for some info about an item. Daniela on the phone was extremely helpful instead of trying to rush through my request. Only after I got off the phone did I realize I had called before 9am when they open. She didn't even mention it or act like I was inconveniencing her. This stood out to me because I called a different Michaels afterward (Albany) because Clifton Park did not have my item but told me Albany did. Completely different experience. Aside from the fact that I really love this store, I did not have a very good experience with the male store manager I encountered on 3/10/15. I was trying to explain to him about a problem I was having with a gift card I had received. I told him that I had tried the number on the card and he told me I should not use that number, but to use 1-800-michael. I asked him if he could call for me and he said he could not do this. I told him the store manager in Amsterdam, NY was very helpful and had called for me originally. He told me " then I had better go back to that store!" He really ticked me off...and when I called the number, it was the same one on the back of the card! Do you train your managers? Eventually I did get through and the problem was their fault, ( the card was defective) and they apologized profusely and added on $5. read more

I would give this place zero stars if I could. Not because of the store itself, but the management is atrocious. You cannot throw new people into the work environment with minimal training and expect them to be 100% perfect at their job two days after training them. One manager in particular expects more from the staff than he is even capable of. Just a warning in case anyone was thinking of applying here. And, they're short staffed. I wonder why. read more
