Each time I go into the store it's got something different. They're always updating. Always on the edge of the new trends in gaming. The prices are higher than some places. Not a huge amount of deals here. Yes, George can be kind of blah and off-putting. (But this is nothing new. He's been like this as long as I've been aware of him. Notice he rarely sits behind the counter anymore?) The rest of the staff are good, and very friendly. Conversations are always interesting. Some good folk come into the shop. Lots of in store play, both upstairs and down. I would say that the gaming part is probably more the focus here, but their comic selection isn't awful. As others have said, the comics are upstairs, and the gaming suppies are downstairs. Games run the gamut from card, board, mini, and RPG. Supplies for each of these types are fairly abundant. I still love this place. While the free paint Saturdays aren't still a thing the store is still hands down my favorite spot for finding the games I want, the friends I need to play them, and the community I am grateful to be a part of and without whom all my games would be pointless to have. The store still offers a great newsletter with discounts which you can sign up for via their tablet by the counter, they still have Friday night board game nights I attend regularly, and they have begun organizing and supporting Keyforge tournaments which I sometimes attend Saturday afternoons. They offered a buy one get one 50% off sale this Christmas and typically have a great sale every Friday the 13th. Sometimes they wrap games up and sell them at a discount so that you can enjoy a little self imposed gifting and surprising :) I love coming here regularly not just because of the great selection of product (they aren't just some FLGS that runs MTG and has no stock) from board games, to miniatures, to comic books that make them the, "one stop geek shop" but because doing so has afforded me access to a community of people with similar interests as my own and provided a environment that supports and fosters the growth of these relationships. Put simply, I have many good friends in my life because of Zombie Planet. My life is richer because of these friends who are a part of the community that this store has forged and supported and allowed to flourish. That is the thing that really sets the store apart. Here is a good board game store (for games that you won't find at Target or Walmart... real board games!). It is fun to go and peruse their inventory, though I usually am only there for things like card sleeves or dice. I mostly buy used games, which they don't really have. They also sell paints, miniature supplies, Magic cards, and comics, but I am not into those. Their prices are what they are because they are a brick-and-mortar store, and they cannot compete with online prices. I get that. Still, I wish that they would run sales or something. read more

Zombie Planet is right across the street from the Chinese Market and right near a laser tag place. It's safe to say that I go to all three every time I can when I'm in the area. The building itself has two floors. The first floor is for board games, D&D, Warhammer, paints, miniatures, dice, etc. The second floor is dedicated to all things comics. What I like about this place is that there is no specific clientele. Sometimes I see children playing Yugioh! or college kids playing Magic or people from all ages participating in a Pokemon tournament upstairs. Going to a cabin in the adirondacks this weekend, I thought I'd get a new board game to bring along. I had never been to zombie planet and didn't know what to expect. The place was packed with people and stuff. It was a Friday night, and there was three tables of people playing games and an upstairs comic book area that had several tables filled with people. Hundreds of games and all kinds of freaky parifanilia. Overall it was a festive atmosphere. If you have never played a board game like this, let me tell you it's not shutes and ladders. These games are well crafted to bring out the inner power hungry land grabber in you, or train baron who dominates the landscape, or an energy company looking to make a foutune building cities. Side note. I've played with games with more phd physcologist than I care to admit, and they all get crazy about half way through. We all have things inside us we don't get to explore unless something brings it out. The people who worked there were super cool, and invited me to play on a Friday night, and some other asked me to join a game that was about to happen. This is a community of like minded people who really enjoy their hobby. Is it a little geeky? He'll yeah, so am I. read more

This is not a shop for everyone. It's really a shop for die-hard PnP and card gamers. The comic book shop (upstairs) feels like an afterthought and a way to keep their core customers from going to bigger, more established comic shops for their reading. It's fun to walk around and see what's available - once, but unless you're looking to game with the gamers, don't expect to feel at home or even really welcome. Even the staff seems indifferent toward new customers. It's not a bad place, but I certainly get the impression that they're looking for established gamers to expand their clientele, rather than bringing in new folks and building a larger client base by making things more friendly for those wanting to get involved in various games or offering assistance when newbies have questions. read more

This place has a really impressive selection of games of many types: strategy, social, role-playing, etc. If the type of games you like can't be found at places like Target or Toys R Us, this is the place to go first. It can be a bit challenging navigating through some of the narrow aisles though, even more challenging on evenings when gaming tables are set up. The first time I walked in, I was greeted immediately and asked if there was anything in particular I was looking for, so I wonder if your service depends on how frequently you visit, or who is working at any particular time. I've always gotten good service when I've visited. If I'm interested in getting a harder to find item, or getting something right now (as opposed to waiting for it to be shipped from an Internet order), this is quite likely to be the first place I'll check. read more

I was just there for their anniversary sale, buy something get something of equal value half off. I bought a dice set and a cup. Both about the same price, but one was marked up in their computer by a difference of $5. When I brought up how the item had a different price tag on it the employee gave me resistance and reluctance to refund me my $5. I did receive me refund, but I will never shop here again. read more

I started going to play games at Zombie Planet about 3 years ago. through that time I have had the pleasure of meeting the owner and several of the staff. I grew up in Colonie, but never managed to stop by as a kid. George, the owner, does all he can to keep an environment friendly to all walks of life and ages. He's never been anything but helpful to me, and the friends I have made there. Yes, some of the products he sells can be found cheaper online, and I buy things online often, but for the items he keeps in stock, and running a store where game tables are frequently being used, I rarely mind paying a small percentage more to buy something. The owner is a such a jerk! I came in on Christmas Eve because I accidentally double purchased the same expansion pack (it's a gift and I am not knowledgeable about the product). I just wanted to swap the pack for one of the same value, but this was incomprehension to the owner. He wanted to up charge me for the cards because there was a sale the previous week, but he raised the prices on Christmas Eve. Next time I'm not going to support a small business and just shop online because it is a heck of a lot easier. And I don't have to deal with rude owners who can't fix a simple problem, and who try to price gauge me while spewing facetious and insulting remarks (sorry I don't play Dungeons and Dragons). read more

There's something for every nerd at Zombie Planet. Excellent selection of miniatures, card games, RPGs, and board games. They also have a second floor with comic books and comic book related merchandise. It's a tradition for my boyfriend and I to visit Zombie Planet once a year. This year, I made my usual purchase of some new Warmachine and Malifaux minis. I paid partially in cash and partially in credit. However, when I came home (Brooklyn), I noticed my card had been charged for the full total instead of the partial amount. I called Zombie Planet and had a very pleasant conversation with Amy. She checked the system, saw my transaction and offered to send me a check for the difference since I couldn't drive all the way from Brooklyn back to Albany. She even said she'd give me a call if they could think of a better way of giving me the difference back. She had a wonderful phone presence and I appreciated her apology even though it wasn't her fault. I'll definitely be coming back, like I always do, every year at around this time. read more

This is one of my favorite places to visit. They have a really great selection of board games and the offer fun events. I'm honestly really surprised to see so many negative reviews when it comes to customer service. There are one or two employees that can be mildly standoffish, but they are the exception. I'm not a novice gamer, but I recently went to ZP to look into getting the core rulebooks for D&D 5e. I haven't played in over ten years and Francis was super helpful on pointing out exactly what I needed and letting me know about some of the major changes in the game since the 3.5 version. He also let me know about the Paint n Take on Saturday, where they supply patrons with a free Bones mini as well as paints and technical advice, which is awesome because I have no experience painting minis. I've been to the other game stores in the capitol region (Flights of Fantasy, Foam Brain Games), and they each have their own strengths, but ZP is still my go to favorite. read more

I have been a customer at this store for 7 years. They ALWAYS have the MTG cards in stock and big selection of older cards. The board game section is huge and upstairs is an excellent comic store. If the man who said he wouldn't serve us without a mask is really concerned about Covid, he should lose about 150lbs. Surgical masks only stop about 10% at best (your neck gator does even less) and covid is carried in the air - nanoparticles that are smaller than the holes in the masks. Even the best mask cannot stop these particles, but it can stop you from getting proper oxygen intake, which is not helping the manager think straight. Seriously, dude, lose the weight if you are so concerned about your health. I need to breathe. I know Yelp will delete this review like the last one, probably for "hate speech" or something, but I really do think you need to lose weight. I say it out of love and I do want you to be healthy and with proper oxygen intake. Also the top floor does smell like BO, that is not a joke. read more

I stopped by Zombie Planet for the first time this past weekend. I had heard about ZP via the list of Official Pokémon Card Game organizers list, but that's not what I came in for. I was looking for the Arkham Horror board game and I called. It turned out that they didn't have it in stock but they did have the expansions. I declined their offer to order it for me - it's in between printings anyway and I don't live in Albany. After I secured a copy of the Arkham Horror on eBay I headed over to the store, though I didn't go upstars where I believe is where they hold tournaments and things. They had Return of the King playing and there were quite a few employees walking around and talking to customers. I found the expansion sets they had in stock and discovered a lot of other interesting games that I'll have to go back and look at again. All-in-all it's a well stocked gaming store that carries collectible card games (Pokémon, Magic), Role-Playing games (D&D, Rifts), and lots of board games (Arkham Horror, Carcassonne, Warhammer, Heroscape, LOTR Monopoly). read more

The staff is rude and condescending. They price gouge on all their gaming products. For example, A magic the gathering set that was released was retailed at $85. When I called to ask the price the clerk on the phone asked how much was I willing to pay. I advised $85 dollars and he laughed at me and told me they were going for $400 on eBay. I was able to purchase it at Aquilonia in Troy where the owner there does not price gouge. Go to zombie planet if you like throwing money away and being talked down to. read more

Not for the casual gamer. I have visited this store multiple times and not been offered assistance, or even a welcoming smile until I get to the register. One the rare occasion that the staff has spoken to me they are nice, polite and helpful, but engaging the customer is not their strong suit. The store is well stocked, and clean, but certainly caters to the hardcore war-gaming / miniature crowd. War-games are awesome, but you gotta get people hooked on the gateway games first sometimes. :-) For those preferring to support local business instead of the online giants... please give us some service. read more

Zombie Planet is amazing! I brought my three-year old son here to buy him his first comic book, and I couldn't be happier with the discovery and experience. Amid the organized chaos of products and fandom decor, there really is something eye-catching around every corner (especially if you have the help of a child to point things out). Games (tabletop, war, card, and RPG) certainly seem to be a focus for the store. Regardless of the games you play, the inventory is deep enough to satisfy experienced gamers. We bought the aptly named Zombie Dice. It is a fast-playing, intensely fun family game, and I highly recommend it. My wife and I, along with our two four-year olds and three-year old, had a literal blast rolling and matching brains and avoiding shotgun blasts (my wife can't roll brains to save her undead life!). Fear not fair shopper--we found several racks of children's comics upstairs and fulfilled our main quest (Batman! Superman! Wonder Woman! Ho!!!). Personally, I don't buy comics monthly, so I can't speak to their overall selection of floppies, but the trade paperback/graphic novel selection was more than satisfactory--it produced all that I sought save a single obscure title from a small publisher. The staff was courteous, helpful, and friendly. The owner, George, was welcoming and personally helped me on a side-quest to locate a particular volume. We'll be back! read more

I have never bought any such present before and have no background knowledge of the game or what miniatures are or are used for. The owner is one of the best informed in the business, ans their service and selection among the best to be found. Players throughout the country would kill to have a gem like this close to them. I will grade this place on two factors, as a comic shop, it would only get a 2 star review. They only seem to carry what a good news stand would carry. As a role playing game store this place shines though. From Heroclicks to Dungeons and Dragons gear, they stock some neat stuff. The prices were a bit high, but not crazy high. I've had numerous bad experiences with this store. Had an employee tell me how they wouldn't give me a Free Comic Book Day Green Lantern issue, because they wanted to sell it instead. Had an employee try to charge me $50+ normal price for a box of Scars of Mirrodin. Continued to tell me how they don't try to compete with internet pricing. Apparently they've never heard of MSRP. Then today, had an employee deny selling me a new Commander Deck, Devour for Power, all of two hours after their "release". Was told that they were all put aside for the Event taking place this evening. It's readily evident: this store has no interest in new customers. Take your money elsewhere, there are plenty of local stores who treat your better and give better deals. read more
