Free membership that doesn't expire. Discounted items (including book shelves of them as well) from holidays and their book selection offers. Helpful, kind present people working there. We carry a wide selection of literature for adults and children, including those of local and regional interest, as well as an expansive variety of toys, gifts, jewelry, stationery, personal accessories and home goods. Located in the heart of downtown Schenectady on the Jay Street Pedestrian Mall, they are around the corner from Proctors Theatre and many restaurants. There is lots of parking. The knowledgeable staff is wonderful to deal with in person or by telephone. The store even offer a frequent shopper rewards card. I had to pick up a book I ordered. Like many people, I prefer to support small businesses rather than Amazon and large mall bookstores whenever I can. The store was packed with great displays of books and gifts artfully arranged. I am always impressed with the space and attention devoted to books etc. for children. Before I checked out with the book I ordered, I selected a children's board book, three greetings cards, a stained glass frame for a 5 X 7 photo, and an adorable pair of llama socks for my young granddaughter. Great retail therapy!

I'd never been to Lollipops even though I pass by it all the time because it's next to Starbucks in Newton Plaza. It's got everything for a person under 5. Games, toys, clothes and whatever else those micro humans need. I got the feeling that the items for sale were hand picked and of a nice quality. Not that garbage you can find at Target made in China. It seems like everything is made in china these days. Sure, they cost us less but let's face it, the pollution made in China to make our cheap crap is our problem too. Every item you buy is a vote to keep it on the shelves of a store. Economic democracy works by us selecting what we want. I say lets vote for things made in the US. We can trust them, they keep our neighbors working and they don't need to be shipped 8000 miles. I ended up with an American made puppet from a company called Mellisa and Doug for $20. has a nice wooden handle and made my cute little goddaughter squeal with delight when I pretended I was a pirate. When I checked out the girl working there wrapped by gift for free. What put Lollipops over the edge to 5 star land was she also wrapped the gift I bought at a different store for me. When I tried to tip her for the extra work, she refused to accept it. She worked there for 16 years and knew her stuff. Excellent wrapper, good with suggesting toys and very friendly. This experience for me was an excellent one.

I'd walked by a few times but today I decided to go in. Instead of asking what we were looking for the lady hiding behind the counter shouted to make sure my son didn't "spill his milk or juice or whatever it was" (it was water btw) and then the other lady asked what we were looking for and proceeded to tell us that anything with a round sticker was 30% off. No greeting. No nothing. After they uncomfortably kept staring at us we just left. Cute clothes. Pricey. You can get just as cute of clothing at many other stores like Macy's for a better deal and less attitude. I do NOT recommend. They seem very judgmental and just all around rude.
