Since Party City closed, the local Michael's is marketing heavily on party balloons. The Michael's have a wide variety of art, craft, yarn and part supplies, which makes it easy to find what I need in one trip. The store is usually organized, and items are mostly on in stock. I like coming here for holidays decoration, as well. The staff is generally nice when I've asked questions, especially when looking for specific materials. I recently purchased several paint by number sets for my kids. When they began painting one of the sets, it was discovered that roughly half of the paint colors were completely dried solid. I went to the store to return it and was told by the manager that the item was "on clearance" and could not be returned. I explained that the item was defective and, under California law, must therefore be returnable. She was unmoved by this, so I simply gave up. I have to wonder whether the manager is ok with the idea that the store gets my money and I get nothing of value. Does this really sound like a sensible store policy? My family and I have been coming to this Michael's for over 20 years. Although selection of merchandise is great and customer service is good when you go inside the store, do NOT use the curbside pickup option. I've used it twice and both times were HUGE disappointments!! The first time, it took forever for my order to be brought out to me. The second time, which was today, NO ONE came out to bring me my order. I waited well over 10 minutes and decided to go in and get my order. Once I entered the store, I saw my order of balloons floating in the front of the store and not one employee was near them or even attempted to bring them to me. I had to flag down an employee to let her know that I was waiting for my order, but no one brought it out to me. She did apologize. I went to the Michael's store today because I dropped a picture frame of mine and it broke. it broke very simply, the glass was intact, the picture was fine, only one corner of picture frame was disconnected. apparently, Michael's does not service broken picture frames. the lady working at the picture frames was very nice but did not have the attitude of an excellent craftsman. I'm sure she could have fixed it, for the corner of the frame just needed to be glued together, but it was not part of her job function. i think this Michael's needs to focus more on fulfilling the customers needs rather than focusing on the employees specific function. read more

Zach was so kind and patient with me and even went through his list to find what would be the closet art supply to achieve my result. This is one of my favorite stores especially when I'm in an artistic or creative mood. They have a huge selection for all kinds of crafts and projects! They have a lot of decor as well. I love the holiday decor/ holiday project items they offer and that's what mainly draws me to Michael's! I've made some really cute decorations using what I've found in this store and they always have what I'm looking for. Another favorite thing about this particular Michaels that I love is the self checkout kiosk. It makes Michaels trips really quick and if you are a Michaels member and use their rewards there are always coupons or deals going on that can be entered on the kiosk. This last trip I popped into Michael's Zach was helpful, and most of the interactions I've had with the employees here have been positive. There is also always ample parking at this Michael's! Just wanted to give a shout out to Michael's in Brea. I was at another location recently. The store was in shambles. Likely due to restocking between seasons. Also, I suspect that this brick and mortar chain is barely surviving, let alone competing with online retailers like Amazon (just my opinion). I needed an item that had not been restocked for Christmas yet (yes, I realize it's October). Online it showed Brea had a few so I went there and they weren't out on display, yet. Luckily, Cal and the manager took the time to go to back and search for my item. It took them a few minutes but they found it. Now that's what I call customer service!!! Thank you both. I needed two yellow Gildan shirts for an incoming trip to Legoland, and size youth XS seemed to be sold out at all the places I called. I saw online that the Brea location had it, and I called to check stock before going into the store. The person who picked up the phone, Nathan, was very helpful and put two different sizes on hold for me. Have passed by this Michaels location often (due to Nordstrom Rack, Tilly's, Staples, The Home Depot, and the list goes on...) but have never been inside until yesterday for a store pick-up. Plenty of parking as usual and two sliding doors, one to enter and one to exit - like at other Michaels' locations. I did first step into the regular checkout lane as I did not know where to go, but as I was standing there, I noticed a smaller sign for "store pick-up" here. I walked over and pressed the button as directed. One of the two cashiers told me that she would be right there, as she was helping ring up a customer. As I was waiting for the cashier, I checked out the nearby aisles, especially the (after Christmas) clearance section. Every aisle that I walked by was neatly organized and fully stocked. Once the cashier came over, she asked for my name and walked to the back to find my order. My order was in a shopping bag with my order printed and stapled to the bag. This was my first experience with store pick-up with Michaels. The Michaels near me did not have the item I was looking for, and since I was going to be in Brea, I figured why not place the order here for pick-up the next day. The pick-up order was ready as soon as the store was open. I had placed the order the night before when the store was closed. Great customer service and efficient! read more

Everytime I go there is always an issue with the self checkout even though there are more self checkouts than there are employees. The employees don't help at all. The sale items never specify whether it is mix or match even though many of the items are mixed together in a bin. You find out at checkout, which is not a fun surprise. I've been here numerous times and do like the selection and organization of this store. It's always very clean and they have cashiers who come to help the line go down when it is long. Todays visit for Christmas stuff was not disappointing because they have so much that the other stores do not have in stock. I went to this Brea location to buy some items. Selection was good but checkout was a nightmare. Everything is now replaced with self service checkout. I assume 2 of them for quick small items would work but not all cashiers replaced. All the cashiers are gone and there was no help with checkout. I felt like I was in a cold empty store. You have to know your password to log into the Michael's rewards on the screen to access your account. The machine was not user friendly. I don't know how an elderly person could figure it out if I could not. Waste of my time not having personal service with an employee. I didn't know if my discounts were applied. The worst part is the large camera on the screen recording your checkout with your face. Very invasive and experience was horrible. I will not be back ever. read more

This store has a decent selection of supplies for the average crafter. I do some basic scrapbooking, and my son is a serious painter. We both found some supplies here that other Michael's stores didn't have. We liked looking supply of canvases, sketchbooks, and other fun items for the artist. They had some cute scrapbook albums and a decent selection of card stock, but they definitely needed more scrapbook embellishments. The store seemed really clean and fairly organized. The employees seemed really nice when we were purchasing our items, but it was a challenge finding a salesperson on the floor when we had questions about finding the items we needed. This is a nice store for art supplies and basic scrapbook supplies. It's worth a stop if we can't find what we need at stores closer to home! read more

They don't fix the problem they just MOVE the PROBLEM ! I assumed by driving 15 minutes out to a different location I would have a BETTER store experience I thought wrong! As a reputable business they need to RE TRAIN on how to treat their customers with Dignity, Act professional and how to better themselves In a work environment and not to hide in aisles in the stock room bathroom framing and act like their working. I hope their security cameras capture and records so corporate can view what goes on every day. My daughter is a store manager walking distance from this Brea Location and she is a frequent buyer just as much as I am so I truly hope her experiences won't be as terrible as mine. The manager (white, rude lady) was very arrogant and condescending. She rudely says go to isle 32 and carried on with her conversation. Despite all of the chaos she was friendly and calm. I told her that she needs to work somewhere else where the employees get some help! The line to check out was extremely long and growing. This place is heaven to me! It is even better when there is a 50% coupon running. This location is great too and I feel like they have a lot of planner supplies and stickers in stock. It was very clean and it was stocked perfectly. All the workers were really nice and would ask me if I had any questions or needed help looking for anything. There wasn't really a great signal in the store though so when I was trying to open up my email to get my coupon before paying, it took awhile to load. Was in Michaels ( Brea store on Imperial) today purchasing quite a few things that were 40% off. When I got to the clerk to pay he wrang up one item at full price. When I told him the item was 40% off he got very irrirated and said its buy one get one 50% off. I showed him the sign that was hanging over the merchandise that clearly read 40% off. He abruptly said that a customer had to have hung that sign there and then angrily said; NO, YOU CANT GET 40% off . Thank you and Good-bye. I enjoy crafting, especially for the holidays, so I spend a good amount of time throughout the year popping into this Michael's. Overall this location is always very clean and organized, and the staff is friendly when you can find them. What I have noticed over the past couple years is a change in the quality of the seasonal items they carry and the overall selection throughout the store. It seems as though there is now less of a selection, and the quality of the items that still remain have gone down greatly. I'm tempted to use the work cheap. That was definitely not always the case. The same can be said about their premade floral arrangements and centerpieces. While they do not carry material for sewing clothing, they do have yarn for knitting, and still have an excellent selection of bow material for all occasions. Sadly, something has absolutely changed at this location and it is now undeniable. The overall quality of their crafting items is simply not the same and they seem to be filling the store with more baskets than ever rather than more intricate craft items. They are ideal if you have children doing a school project or you yourself are doing something uncomplicated. However, if you are deeply into a particular hobby or project this may not be the location for you. If I could describe this Michael's in one word it would be "basic." I'm extremely disappointed as this has been my go to location for the past ten years. read more

Michaels is an arts and craft store, where you can find almost anything from stickers to hot glue sticks, to sparkly beads to decorate and create homemade items for your home or as a gift. You can also get picture frames, decorative boxes and even bags to wrap your gift items. When I take an extensive trip, I like to make a travel journal so I stop here to pick up travel stickers to decorate the journal. Prices are fairly reasonable, and they had also have some items on clearance for as low as 99 cents (retailing at $3.99). One thing it is not is a fabric store. If you need cloth, go to JoAnn's or Walmart. But if you need sparkly beads, pre cut decorative wood, fake plants, glass jars, puffy paint, or stickers, this is a great place. read more

They tried to tell me my framing job was worth $600 but they instead gave me a discount that brought the cost down to $300. $300 for a job not well done. They kept implying more framing options that aren't even needed. In the end it still looked like crap and didn't even match the original shirt frames I provided them to copy from. They didn't even have the courtesy to call me in advance to say "hey they don't look the same" instead they just went on and did a horrible job because who cares right?! I feel like it's a smaller Michaels versus other ones, but it has the essentials that you'd need for your crafting. It could just be that the aisles feel a little narrower, while other Michaels probably have more spacious aisles. Prices are alright, though I always recommend having a coupon in hand for whatever you are planning to buy. 40% and 50% off regular priced items are always nice to have. :) Or 25% entire purchase (including sale items). You can also bring up the coupons on your smartphones while you're waiting in checkout. I believe there is also now a rewards program, so try joining that, too. Black Friday over here isn't too bad. Just get here early. Parking is easy, since it's a large shopping center. Haven't tried framing anything here, but it might be the same price as Aaron Brothers next door, since they have the same parent company. read more
