Not worth buying online from them with the hopes of easy returns. My return process was a nightmare. I brought everything that was shipped to me the way it came. I reviewed the return policy before I ordered and it looked simple. First tier acted confused and hoped I'd give up, after hauling two big boxes in that weren't what I thought they were? Ha no. She calls some kind of manager, super rude lady. She was rude to me and rude to her employees. I was patient and nice, she just came out of the gate an unpleasant person. They call the store manager up. Takes forever. He's not super nice but not rude, acts annoyed at the other manager and refunds my money. Good grief it was not worth all that. Looking for a wee little bit of assistance in the Frames dept, it was difficult to get someone's attention and far more difficult to find someone who cared to actually help me spend more than $200 in their store. So I didn't. I didn't see casts on anyone's hands so I can not understand why they acted as if their hands were broken. Not one of the three Clerk-bots I talked to attempted to pick up a phone or type something into the computer to check availability on a different size frame I needed to complete my purchase. In the present economy I would expect employees to exert a little more effort to address a customer request when said customer is on the verge of spending money. POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!! Michaels says it honors coupons from their competitor's (Hobby Lobby & Joann's) BUT THEY DON'T REALLY!! Last week I had bought a collage photo frame at the Michaels in Round Rock & I used a 20% off total purchase -regular and sale priced coupon from Joann's which the manger of the store was called and approved the coupon. My total price paid was $50.65 well today 1/28/11 I went to the Michaels at 10225 Research Blvd store#1304 because I was going to exchange the photo collage frame that I had already purchased for another photo collage frame that was more expensive in price $79.99 sale price reg. $149.99 and I printed out the same coupon from Joann's that I used the 1st time at the other Michaels store and the manager at this store tells me they don't honor competitor's coupons that are for sale priced items total purchase and this is store policy so I explained I took the same exact coupon to the Michaels in Round Rock last week and it was honored which I had my receipt & it shows the 20% discount taken off and the photo frame I was wanting to buy was MORE EXPENSIVE so I would still have to pay more money out of pocket even if they did honor the coupon I had so it wasn't like I was trying to get money back or buy something cheaper in price & no where does it say "yes we honor competitors coupons except for...." I even asked the manager to see this policy in writing which she said "we don't have it in writing that's just our policy" does that even make sense?! NO IT DOES NOT!! If they are enforcers of this policy & this is the "golden" policy then you would think they would have it in writing! Well in the end I just returned the frame I bought & got my money back & they have LOST A CUSTOMER! I'm just very disappointed that they didn't even try to work with me. Inefficient, disorganized, STAY AWAY from this store. No signage telling people where to pickup online packages. So stupid, such an easy fix. To save time I ordered online, paid online, and was to pick up at the store. They sent three emails, the final one describing in tiny print where to go in the store to get the package. I didn't notice that. A sign in front referred only to UPS packages. Two very very very slow cashiers were serving over ten customers, lined up. I stood in line twenty minutes. Then was told to pick the page up in the back of the store by the sign that was hard to see but said UPS PACKAGES-PICK UP HERE--except this as not a UPS package. Not a word about online packages. Then the clerk had to get someone else to get the packGes, not his department. The manager comes, gets the package. Thirty minute waste of time. read more

So I just got my sewing machine not too long ago and decided to set it up. I wasn't familiar with "Singer" machine, but I tried to the thread the bobbin and I couldn't seem to figure it out. I called Michaels and got to talk to the best employee, Aldera. She helped me and walked me through of what I needed to do. She showed me step by step instruction pictures and tips that really helped. I got to thread the bobbin and now I can use my sewing machine. Super happy! read more

Everytime i shop here, I'm greeted nicely so not much of a problem from the cashiers. But they are just that, cashiers, they don't provide much help or product information when needed. There is always a reason to call for someone else to help, run all over the store, and still not provide a very professional assistance to me. Now, more recently, I had a photo shoot done early in the summer and now need frames. I used to work at a framing manufacturer and i know what i want. I don't like being told differently or looked at like a weirdo, and that's what i experienced here. Not only did it make me upset, but I took my business elsewhere. So now I call to see about getting mats made custom for different pictures, and Michaels doesn't even cut the mats in store. They are ordered somewhere and shipped in, taking 5-7 days. Seriously!? I can order them online and have them within 3 days and not have to pay outrageous amounts to a Corporate chain company. I'd rather give my $$ to small businesses that CARE! read more

This location use to be the better one for the Austin North-west area, however the management and the staff has ruined the experience. There is always a great line here for no reason, just because none of the staff wants to jump onto the register leaving you waiting in line for upwards of 10 minutes. The store is fairly organized but cramped. The selection doesn't seem as vast as the other stores. The management is non-existent and unhelpful. I like Michael's and always have. This is the typical location I tend to peruse every now and again to see if something stands out. I often walk out empty-handed, but sometimes I do come out with something worthwhile. I don't scrapbook, but they do seem to have a somewhat decent scrap-booking selection that typically gets in the way when I'm trying to find some origami paper (located somewhere around the craft section). They have a somewhat decent jewelry-making aisle, but then again I'm not much of a jeweler? So what DO I do? I like to go to the sections for people who draw and paint pretty pictures. They have a very basic selection- basically what you'd find most other craft/hobby stores. I'll also hit them up around Halloween time for home decor items (so what if I keep Halloween decorations up year round?). Over the years, the selection becomes less and less impressive. However, one thing is certain- they'll always have a nice selection of Martha Stewart goods and really- can you imagine anything scarier? This particular location does get minus a star for a somewhat reclusive staff. Sometimes it feels like they avoid you in the aisles and when you're coming up to the register you're inconveniencing their personal phone call (which they'll get right back to after checking you out). So a very meh level of service. One thing Michael's does have going for it is the coupon you get most times when checking out. Typically, you'll get a coupon print out good for the following week for something like 40% off an item or something. This comes in handy when I make a big purchase like on Prismacolors or a set of paints. read more

Don't make the trip to this location. The website told me there were 12 bulletin boards with a specific sku in stock. When I went to the store I was told they l have sold out of that item and they suggested another store or online. When I told the sales associate that the website showed inventory she told me "that happens all the time." When I asked for free shipping to compensate me for their error the sales associate told me she couldn't authorize that. I found an inferior substitute cork board and when I asked for pushpins I was told we don't carry that item. But they do carry bulletin boards!! read more

Do not under any circumstances use their online store. They promise delivery dates they can't keep. The customer service is not empowered enough to solve problems. I made a 5k order and they didn't even send me a tracking number. I had to call three times to find out they used some crazy freight company that aperrently only works one day a week. When are these companies gonna realize that if they want to compete with Amazon they have to care about the customer experience. Needless to say they will never see another doller from me. I called them three times asking for tracking and the first time they said that it was dropped shipped from the manufacturer. It turned out to be complete crap. The workers are rude beyond belief. I watched a worker run into the work room while a woman was trying to get her attention so that the worker didn't have to answer her question. When I asked a question the worker was rude and patronizing, and didn't even look up from what she was doing to look me in the eyes. I tend to frequent this location since it is close to my residence and I enjoy the frame selection. I get the coupons in the circular each week so why not go check it out. Almost every time I have went in there it has smelled like bad bodily function odors. Very gross and unwelcoming. The cashiers are great when you are checking out but not good for too much else. I am very frustrated because I have exchanged the same set of frames 3 times because the glass cracks before I can even get it home. I am very careful with them and literally put them in my car and in one spot at home. When I go to put the pictures in the frame the frame is cracked. WTF. I am done with that type of frame. I probably will continue to frequent this location but my expectations are not high. read more

Laurie in the framing department did an incredible job for us with a family heirloom tea towel. She helped us design the perfect combination of colors for the matte and sewed it to the backing so we didn't have to lose an inch of the design. It turned out so great and we are so excited about it. Will definitely be back the next time we have something fun to frame. read more

WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO CUSTOMER SERVICE? Called in about circuit sticker paper at 9:01 am 5/10, the cashier rudely replied by sticker paper you mean what? She didn't even let me get two words out of my mouth before she cuts me off saying please hold. Once back on the line she said "I believe what you are looking for is circuit sticker paper" I tried to reply but was cut off again before I could get a word out. I asked her name she replied with, "I asked them over the radio and they said what you are looking for is sticker paper". I repeated my question, she finally stated her name was Rosa or Rosemaria. I asked to speak with her manager, after I was placed on a brief hold the general manager picked up and asked how he could help. When I started to explain what my issue was he cut me off stating "one of our cashiers answered the phone and they are suppose to roll those calls out, I apologize". I again stated, as I'm expressing the lack of respect / customer service by your employee who cut me off you turn around and do the same thing. He cut me off again stated "we are just very busy". I told him "Understood, I will just discontinue going to any Michael's stores in the future" disconnecting the call. When the problem starts at the top, how could I blame the employees for following the example given? It is clear that the manager obviously doesn't choose to put customer service first and his employees are following his lead. One lady with an ear piece kept giving me ugly looks the whole time i was there and I tried on some gildan shirts to make sure which ones fit between large and XL before I purchased them and I could totally see that they were hovering around and being judgemental.. We left our artwork at this store (Great Hill location) for the custom framing around 2 weeks ago. When we picked it up yesterday, we found out (by our self) that one of our artworks was damaged. (The entire job was framing 4 pieces of artworks for some $700). These damages were irreversible, and they will be very visible when hanging. There were white stains and scratches all over the place, and also white dot stains. Obviously, they were not careful when they worked on this piece. We were 100% sure that there were no scratches, stains, or dots when we dropped the piece at the shop. We bought this artwork during the trip to Thailand last summer. This piece definitely cannot be found in the States. So, please understand why we were so upset. The employee there did not even care to inform us in the first place about the damages. Like I said ... we had to point it out by our self. The framing manager there (Her name is Laurie) was not even trying to take responsibility and apologize. BTW, she told us that she was the one who worked on our artwork. Definitely, she did not handle this work professionally. Laurie was very rude. Her attitude toward us and this incidence was blaming us for not having the piece sealed before framing (the fact is we don't need to seal. We confirmed with other stores), or blaming her employees. She was trying to brush us off, and was trying to imply that our artwork does not have much value. Oh and BTW, they have never warned us about the possibility of this happening when we dropped the piece in the first place. This framing manager (Laurie) has never offered us a reasonable compensation. Remember!! they damaged our piece and it was not fixable. We first asked for a full refund. Laurie declined, and said that she had to remove all the framing work before she could give us a full refund. Her attitude toward us was so bad. It felt like she picked on us for some reason. Again, during this entire dispute, what she was trying her best to do was not to be responsible for the damages, and treated us like why we wanted any kind of refund. Can you believe that they have this kind of person working at the store? She was very rude, and always made faces for this entire time. And then toward the end, she said in order to determine to value of this damage, she had to file a claim with Michael's Insurance department. Yeah right!! What's a nice way to treat your customers for the error that you did, Michael's store!!! Later on, she offered a 50% refund, but we had to waive our right to file a claim (with their insurance department). Again, it obviously was another way for her to cover her fault. After arguing for couple hours (we had to call 311 to file the report to the police as well), we finally got to talk to the framing district manager, who was more reasonable and has a better attitude. She authorized a full refund plus $40 for our wasted time and gas. Why did it take this long for us to get to talk to the district manage? If the framing manager (Laurie) treated us with common sense and decent customer service in the first place, this ugly incidence would not happen. If Laurie admitted her fault, and offered a reasonable compensation, we would say okay, and moved on. We understand that the accident can happen. I don't know why Michael's store should still keep this kind of person working directly with customer. You guys are better off going to Jo Ann. They treat their customers a lot better than Michael's. We have done framing work with many other stores. These kind of problems never happened. It was really bad experience with Michael's. We will never do any business with them again. Most of the staff in their framing department have bad attitude toward customers. Seems like they really hated their job so much. We are not surprised at all that there are a lot complaints and bad reviews for this location. read more

UPDATE: The store replied very, very quickly to our inquiry about what happened to our picture. They were very apologetic, replaced everything, and were very generous about it. (They nailed the problem down, as well, and it was an isolated incident.) I would definitely recommend them for framing. *** My husband recently picked up a $100 picture that we had framed at this Michaels. We were very happy with the woman who helped us out in initially filling out the order and with the beautiful frame itself. However, when he went to pick it up today, another woman was at the counter who was visibly annoyed that he inspected the picture before taking it home. Upon inspection he reminded the woman that they had forgotten to take the protective backing off of the plaque before framing it. She very huffily took apart the picture, removed the backing, replaced everything, and wrapped the picture up. WORST PART: Upon further inspection at home, they put a HUGE scratch down one side of the picture. It's only visible in certain lighting, but it's six inches long at least. They also bent the picture (also only visible in certain lighting), they left the white visible on the mats which we specifically asked them not to do, and they didn't put a sleeve on the back for the pictures authenticity information like we specifically asked them to do. In short, I will be telling everyone I know to not get anything framed at that Michaels. This is very disappointing to us as we had a very good experience in initially filling out our order. It's the result that is very unprofessional as they ruined a brand new, expensive picture. read more

The manager at the location I shop is curt, rude and not helpful in the least. I had selected a number of clearance items which were advertised to be 70% off the marked price. They rang up at regular price and the cashier was not able to override. He called the manager no less than 10 times and another worker had to physically go and get him. With not even a greeting he hurriedly fixed the items to half price and stormed off. I said that the clearance items were supposed to be 70% off and the poor kid at the register said, yes, we fixed it. I imagine he did not want to call the manager up again and I don't blame him. So I took my half off and said thank you and I hope you have a better day from here on. Michaels has a good selection. Better than other craft stores. But for the higher prices and no customer service, I doubt I will go often anymore. read more

My wife and I hit Michaels all the time for holiday decorations and yarn to feed her crochet addiction. Without fail we're greeted with smile at the door every single time. They have a massive selection for all crafts needs and the decorations always seem to be on sale regardless of whether it's before, during, or after the holiday. This Micheal's does not have the most selection, particularly in yarn. I like to crochet here and there and my most recent stop to pick up some yarn for a baby blanket was not as easy as I had imagined in my mind. Their selection was so small in certain brands /styles of yarn and with such limited colors that it was a struggle to find the few colors I wanted. I spent thirty or so minutes humming and hawing over getting only some of what I needed or nothing at all. I do like that Micheal's offers coupons regularly and that if you want a higher price item you can wait for their 50% off coupon to use. They have a decent selection of Christmas items when it is that time of year; however, I think hobby lobby has way more selection in every area offered. read more

They have great prices, are consistent in their store layouts so things are easy to find, and the staff are always willing to help you if you have a question. And they'll always have a great sale to stumble upon. Additionally, they usually either have a 40% or 50% off coupon floating around online you can use in store, too. read more

Great arts & crafts store with just about anything you could need for any craft imaginable. They have frequent sales on great stuff, coupons available by app and mailer, and a great staff to help you get the best deal on your purchases. Michaels has monthly classes to help you hone in on craft skills such as sewing, embroidery, framing, and they even have classes for the kids!! I keep coming back to Michaels by necessity, not by choice. If I can find the same product elsewhere I will go elsewhere and this is why... the employees are usually not friendly, sometimes borderline rude. If you need assistance, 1) good luck finding an employee (the store is understaffed so they're always on the register(s) and 2) should you actually find one, good luck getting any assistance. They typically have only a vague idea of whether or not they carry an item I'm inquiring about and an even vaguer idea of where to locate said item should it exist in their establishment. My other big complaints are their coupons and overall lack of organization . To me the coupons seem like a tease, because it's a rare occasion for me to actually be able to use one. They're often very restrictive date-wise. They require paper, so you can't just pull up the coupon on your phone (come on,people, it's only 2013.) And, because the store is so disorganized, I'll pick up an item that isn't marked on sale only to discover I can't use the coupon because the item is, in fact, on sale (though less than the value of the coupon, of course.) Conversely, oftentimes I bring an item to the register believing it to be on sale, when in fact it's not. The store is just very unorganized with a lot of items out of stock. I have, on occasion, ran into a friendly and helpful employee. And they do have a nice large selection of arts and crafts (obviously), but I've been burned too many times to return if I can help it. read more
