I was in need of a picture album, which is odd since I haven't bought one since high school. But as I get older, and I receive more and more pictures, I'm running out of room for picture frames. Hence the need to get a photo album. I wasn't looking for anything fancy, I just needed your basic photo album that would allow me to neatly store my excess photos. I honestly walked right past this section at first. Silly me thought it was back near the frames. But, no, it is near the scrapbooking materials, and what a small section this is. They had different sizes of photo albums from a little oversized to ones that held one picture to page/pocket. I kind of went middle of the road here and grabbed one that looks just like a binder. Made my way to the front to pay and this location has the self checkouts that look more like information kiosks than registers. After scanning my items and skipping the bag, I had my recent in hand, along with a coupon for a future visit, and I was out the door. read more

Dropped off 6 balloons to get helium on Thursday morning for pick up on today (Saturday) at 11am. Picked up the balloons today at 11am and already (at 2:30pm) 1 balloon is flat and 1 ballon is losing air and almost flat. I have my daughter's birthday party today and we are now down to 4 balloons and it hasn't even started! Not happy about this at all! Wish Party City were still around! read more

This company sent out a blast email stating fall items were 60% off plus an additional 20% off of the entire purchase. Then said "Sale ends tomorrow" So I went into the store to take advantage of the sale. The cashier told me she was unable to override the pricing because the sale wasn't coming up in their system. Which I didn't understand. I've worked in retail and you can manually calculate the price and override. I called customer service and they told me the text was a mistake. They have received several complaints and there is nothing they can do about it. I believe, the text was a way to get customers into their stores... and that's it. I've always shopped at Michael's but I don't like companies that operate this way. This is false advertisement and honestly it's very tacky. read more

They will not unsubscribe your from their email list. When you try to unsubscribe online, it says you'll stop receiving emails. When it doesn't happen and you get in touch directly with customer service they say the same. Again does not happen. I continue to get email after email from them. I always go to the Annapolis Michael's Craft Store. Usually I have a great experience. Not so this time. I was standing in line waiting to be called to an associate. When the employee Kelly finally acknowledged us. She was very super rude. She said curtly I am closed. When I asked her how was I to pay for my purchases. She again rudely said I am closed. The lady behind me said Wow Kelly is rude. Eventually Deanne rang up my purchases. Now she must have paid attention in the training class, at Michael's. Because Deanne was friendly, pleasant and said come back again soon. Kelly should learn to be a Deanne. read more

I had a great experience yesterday, I came into the store looking for coloring books, clay and markers! The empolyee Madison was so kind and helpful, she directed me to every aisle perfectly. As a teacher, I'm told to never go to Michael's because its expensive and you could get items cheaper elsewhere. For the last 6 years, I've committed to not going to Michael's under any circumstances. I needed last minute supplies and I wanted to get them elsewhere but my boyfriend wanted a frame for one of his posters so he insisted that we go to Michael's. What was seen cannot be unseen. Not only did I find what I needed, I also found everything I didn't need but wanted. Luckily, we came during their President's Day weekend sale so I saved a lot. I got a $20 scrapbook for only $2! And they give teacher's discounts with your ID. Not sure how other locations are set up but I loved how organized this location was. Neat, bright, colorful. They have some party supplies that looked higher quality than Party City. I wanted to literally buy everything. And the customer service was great as well. Poor follow through. Framing in-store staff was helpful, when I could find them. However, it took over a month to stretch a canvas poster on a frame and they had a very hard time giving me updates when I called. On my last call, I made the manager go back and find out, which didn't make her happy. Turns out it had been done two weeks ago but no one called me - as they promised they would. (I sent this in to Michael's when they asked for a review on the frame. They sent it back to me with a note they wouldn't be posting it.) read more

This store is HUGE. I am very very impressed by it. I actually just came here off the highway on my way home from a roadtrip...but it caught my eye and I can't pass up a chance to hit up a new Michaels. It's def. huge and had a lot of selections. I liked their discount aisles, lots of things on sale and big price cuts. The only thing is, they no longer have a baby shower aisle....which, I'm not sure if its a Michael nation wide thing or just this one but I found that odd. The AC Moore I go to has a large baby shower section so I was surprised Michaels would not. Still, great selection and no wait when I checked out. Good experience here. read more

I was in the Annapolis Michaels (Store #8811) yesterday. Only one cashier was working - who's job it was to also take phone calls at the same time. I waited on the "cash only" line for over 35 minutes, while the Manager (J.S.) kept trying to look busy doing other things (like bringing two shopping carts from the sidewalk into the store), and finally vanished from sight rather than help the poor cashier. This manager made sure she made no eye contact with the disgruntled customers and wore no identification to indicate she even worked there. The wait was so long, that an elderly lady in front of me could no longer stand - the cashier got her a folding chair to sit on. This manager, J.S., had absolutely NO compassion for the poor cashier, let alone RESPECT for the customers - who should be the #1 priority. Never, ever going to Michaels again. read more

So, we had a pretty decent experience, but I can relate with what a lot of the negative reviews are saying. Staff here is hard to find, and they are questionably helpful. I will say, though, that the woman working frames that night (sorry, didn't catch her name) was extremely helpful, and went out of her way to try and match us with the frame we were looking for. She suggested the custom frame as the best option, and given what we wanted versus what most off-the-shelf frame companies make, she was right. But, she was very friendly, she was knowledgeable about the stock, and she seemed to genuinely care about our overall experience. I can't say the same for the manager she asked a question to, though. Slow to respond and very terse. I hope she doesn't have to deal with him often. We were so lucky at checkout, as there were two lights on, but only one cashier present. We were the only ones in line, so we were assisted right away. But, as soon as we got there, a queue started to form behind us. When we were leaving, I overheard the first cashier call out over the loudspeaker: "[Name], can you please return to your register? You have customers waiting to check out." Bear in mind, we were there around 6:30pm on a Saturday night. How empty do they expect the store to be? It was kind of odd given the actual number of patrons in the store. The store was in okay shape. The aisles needed some tending to, and the merchandise was hit or miss. Some frames were clearly broken already, and the prices for certain items were way too high. But, for what we needed, we got some good sales, and the one high priced item got the 60% off coupon we found online before we went. If you catch them at the right time, and you have a coupon for that one expensive item you need, and you don't mind trying to find what you're looking for yourself, then it's a good experience. This Michaels is closest to my home. I needed a couple of picture frames and i knew they would have a good inventory (I think their yarn and other fiber arts have gone downhill, but that is another story). I have a registered email and they send me coupons. I located two frames I wanted. The display sign said 50% off. Apparently, the discount had already been taken into account with the prices that were displayed (this was not clear). I went to the register and showed my coupon. It apparently was for full price items only so it was not applied. The total was higher than I expected so I questioned whether the 50% frame discount had been applied and the clerk said yes. As I was finishing checking out, I asked if they still had the educator discount too, and she said yes, but she did not offer to rerun the transaction. (I carry my teacher ID everywhere) I had to go home and google to find that their educator discount is 15% and that is supposed to apply to sale price items too. So caveat emptor, don't believe the coupon hype, and don't rush through when checking out because they will not be inclined to help you maximize discounts. read more

Bottom Line: Diverse craft supplies and always a line to check out but 40% coupons help ease the pain. I've been to the full gamut of Michael's store ranging from "did a cyclone just come through here" to bright, clean and perfectly organized. This particular location falls somewhere in between. The store seems to be bright, clean and organized but as usual, the staff is below average. No one says hello to you or offers to help you find the random item you are seeking. If there is staff throughout the store then they are usually absorbed into their task and not interested in customers. Like so many other Yelpers have said, there are always lines at the cash registers. Well, make that line, singular, one looong line waiting on just one cashier working one register. I do appreciate the diverse selection that Michael's have. After all, they are catering to a wide range of crafts. You can't find cream of the crop supplies here, but you can absolutely find the basics for just about any craft. Jewelry making, cake decorating, scrapbooking, knitting, school projects, etc., they have it. The upside to Michaels is the 40% coupon that you get in the Sunday paper or better yet, can just pull down on your phone. If it wasn't for this coupon system, I don't think Michaels would be nearly as popular. read more

Hey there Michaels. I think the object of the game is to sell stuff. So the faster you get customers through check out the better. Today I walked in and there was a line down the aisle with one cashier. Poor girl kept her cool but how much pressure is that... to have a line full of people who really really want to give you their money but just have to give you the stink-eye instead. Just be like the grocery stores. When there's more than three in line, open up a new register. That would be awesome. Especially when we just want to get home after a long day. read more

But they always have a fantastic selection, they frequently update their products for the changing seasons. They have a great framing department that has some great ready to go frames of different qualities which I have used many times. They also have cake products which I frequently purchase, I love baking, cooking, creating, scrap booking etc. They also have beading materials, wood working stuff, knitting supplies, tshirt making items, baskets, styrofoam, floral stuff... ribbon... wow, it goes on and on. And always look for the coupon on their facebook or the newspaper. There is always one each week. read more

This review is solely for the custom framing department of Michael's: We couldn't have been happier with the help that we got from Chita! We came in with a roll of prints and lithographs (about 8) that all needed framing. After realizing just how expensive custom framing was (we were complete newbies) she was able to offer us different options at different price points. After spenging about 45 minutes with us, without getting exasperated or atleast not showing it, we were able to find suitable choices for all of the pieces that we came in with. She was truly phenomenal in going above and beyond for us and she really has the patience of a saint! Thanks to Chita our walls have all been upgraded and our art looks far better than anything we could have done on our own! read more

I'll be honest, they're ok, but they're not "OMG! Awesome". I would LOVE it if they removed the bins from the middle of the bigger aisles, ESPECIALLY during the holidays. The holidays are a nightmare to shop anywhere anyway, but you triple the normal number of customers with coats and packages and this store is just a pain to get through. My newest gripe with Michaels is NONE of their stock is online for sale, even their own brands. On a recent trip, I found one ball of this gorgeous sparkly black yarn in the Loops and Threads brand. I came back a week later, and it still hadn't been restocked. Checked their website. Can't order squat. Awesome. Didn't realize they were still stuck in 1995. The checkout staff has always been friendly even when they're busy, even when my phone won't get the coupon on the screen fast enough. (Wait, they'll do mobile apps but no selling on their website....does anyone else see the irony here?) Points to them for friendliness. I'll probably be back, only because I still need another ball of that yarn! read more

For buying "stuff" off the shelf, I've had no problem. However, the Michael's framing operation has a HUGE problem in that if you have multiple pictures framed with the same matting, they do not (and say they CAN not) orient the "grain" of the matting in the same direction for all the pictures!!! RESULT: the matting can look very inconsistent between pictures if they are placed on the wall near each other, essentially WASTING hundreds of dollars or more. Worse, when we went back and explained the problem, they said they COULD NOT CONTROL how the matting was cut (they do not cut the matting locally). They said they just "send in the order". They did not explain why "the order" couldn't have specific instructions on how to orient the matting. Essentially, the person implied the problem COULD NOT be corrected or prevented!!! After following the prompts for curbside for an online order, no one picked up the phone or came outside after I clicked Curbside and called. Next step outlined in email: went in to kiosk by front door as people without masks in high-traffic area entered, clicked the button for service, and no one came over. Went to the checkout where kids pulling masks off and people definitely not 6 feet apart were to find out where my online order was. Took more time than a normal checkout while in a crowded area. Barring the infinite wait times due to staff mismanagement, the framing section is by far the most incompetent area, and the basis for this negative review. They forget to give us paperwork for the custom cut glass, yet told us to pay at the front of the store. After waiting in line, we were informed at the front register that this was incorrect procedure on their part and we were forced to return yet again to the framing section. Upon returning, we were also informed of the [exorbitant] price for the glass, which he cut BEFORE our inquiry of said price was fulfilled. I like shopping here. There is little in the way of good customer service, so I would not shop here if you needed advice about anything. Still, the prices are very good if you wait for a sale or come with a coupon. The framing department has done a good job for me on a couple of projects. Very nice and seemed quite competent and skillful. The store would definitely be improved if they offered much better customer self-help resources. Since it is often understaffed, it is important for people to be able to find an item on their own. Employees are expensive, but a really good store guide, perhaps computerized, is not. read more

Custom picture frames are a bit pricey, but where else can you purchase $0.65 foam drink coolers to be used as sound/road noise deadening devices in my old/antique car? This is the worst Michaels I've ever been too. If I could give it zero stars I would. I've been here several times & it is consistently bad. The employees are all rude, managers don't want to help & are even ruder than the employees. They will talk about you negatively in front of your face. One time, the cashier forgot to issue the gift receipt. She asked for help through the headset & the manager wouldn't help, told me to return all my items and re-buy them to get a gift receipt. Two cashiers said "that's a lie." They are also stingy with coupons and only let you use one per transaction. I used to go to Michaels often, and now they've lost a previously devoted customer. read more

The older women who waited on us never smiled and was very gruff in telling us that she could not repair the piece because the glass could not be taken out. (The framing place up the street said it was no problem and is doing it professionally for less money - and they had lots of smiles for us).. She also was not enthusiastic about framing the other piece of art.. We were stunned at the lack of courtesy and the abundance of rudeness.. What is your problem? You could have responded to our inquiries politely.. We were nice to you! Guess we found a new place to have our art framed.. I have stopped shopping at the Annapolis Michaels store. The manager here needs to be replaced. The last few times I have been in there has been only one cashier on the register with a line of customers backed up to the door. Recently when this happened I found the manager and said something to her and her attitude was as if she could care less.
