Customer service is a big thing for me as it doesn't take a lot to make sure your customer feels like they exist. The hostess greeted me and the wait staff was minimal on interaction and there were 5 people standing by the door when I left and not a single person spoke to me. The wait staff didn't check to see how my food was while I was eating or ask how things were when I was done...instead just asked if I was all set. I still had a half of a margarita and queso and chips. The place was not busy...maybe 4 tables total with several servers. The overall appeal inside is nice and it appears to be clean. This place has potential, but for me if you can't get the basics greetings, pleasantries and a wait staff that checks on your food, I'm out. Oh and the margarita was your basic mix style...I really wish margaritas would be made to order rather than the mix that is so sweet to drink. Unfortunately I won't be back...but if anyone is curious the taquitos do not have chunks of onions in them. read more

In the past, I gave this restaurant five stars. The waiters are gorgeous and very polite. They kept the water coming. We had refills of chips that weren't charged to our bill. We had extra salsa that was not charged. All that was fine. The ambience is even fine. It's louder or Mexican music than what I appreciate but all that was good. The bathrooms were clean. The problem I had was that my chili rolinos we're tough and not done well. I've had better at other restaurants. It seems that I let it slide last time I was in and still gave it a great review and perhaps I should've told them to tell the chef but they were really tough and it seemed like the skin wasn't peeled or they weren't prepared properly. Establishment is clean, orderly and well illuminated. That was the high point of my visit. I ordered the #6 Combo plate - Beef Enchilada, Beef Burrito and a Chili Relleno. All 3 were served well below optimum temperature. In fact, the plate itself was hotter than the food upon it. The enchilada and burrito were identical in flavor ... the same, Finely ground beef was used in each item. (I have the feeling that none of the items were "house-made" and were taken out of packages and poorly warmed up.) The Chili Relleno was just OK... but not good enough to make re-ordering a consideration. All items were covered in the same bland, boring red sauce. This is the FIRST Mexican restaurant that I have ever been to where the table was absolutely void of Anything.. No salt, pepper, hot sauce, table-tent .. Nothing and ... Nothing was ever offered. (looking around, all of the tables were bare.) However, my waiter was clean and polite, stopping by just once to ask how things were, but never even offered a drink refill. Want GOOD Mexican fare? We chose Mi Tequila for its convenient location. I'm so glad we did. Being from an area that has a huge Mexican community, I have been spoiled with authentic food and hospitality. Going out of town means the ethnic food might be hit or miss. This place nails both. It's clean, and bustling with good service but yet quiet and relaxed. I was greeted warmly and asked politely what I wanted to drink. The server brought chips and salsa. I commented when he returned that it was one of the best I've had. HOSTESS & SERVER: The hostess was alright, not the friendliest (we did stand there for quite some time before anyone came over to seat us). Chips and Salsa -- THEY ARE NOT FREE (and it's not free refills either!!!!). Chips looked and tasted like store bought but the salsa was good. We were surprised that you had to pay for chips and salsa and any refills, normally this is a freebie at these types of places! Price $1.50 (and then $1.00 for each refill of chips) and are a small basket! Combo #1 (beef taco, 2 beef enchiladas and your choice of rice OR beans) -- Taste, was meh, this didn't taste authentic reminded us of Taco Bell quality food. Size, small compared to other similar restaurants. Price $13, overpriced for the quality and size. Food was lukewarm when we got it. Combo # 5 (beef burrito, beef taco with beans and rice) -- Taste, again was meh. Burrito seemed like them use a taco shell to make it (was this a kids portion?!?!?!) Price $13. Again food was lukewarm. Chimichanga de la casa -- Taste, soggy not crispy like you expect from a chimichanga and the flavors were bland and a bit "funky". Was highly disappointed with this. Food was lukewarm. OVERALL THOUGHTS: This is not true authentic Mexican food especially for the cost which was around $90 for the 4 meals. Food was lukewarm (at best) when we were served it. Not sure where all the high reviews come from unless they are from locals that don't travel to the southern part of Michigan and never tasted authentic Mexican cuisine and portion sizes! What a horrible experience! When we walked in there were no less than 7 employees (probably more) standing around talking. We had to find a server to order drinks. He then came back to take our food order; it came out almost immediately. The cheese was not melted in my enchilada, the rice and beans were not warm, and my husband's burrito was pretty awful. I mentioned to our server that my meal was not hot but I don't think he understood because he walked away. The chips and salsa were $1.50-which I'm fine with-but the chips were not very good. We were charged extra for salsa for our dinners. I understand the language barrier being an issue but there should be at least a manager checking on the guests, fluent in English, and I did not see one. It wasn't a pleasant experience and we won't be back. That's sad, too, because we love a good Mexican restaurant. Quick, friendly service - you just can't beat it! The food is delicious and comes to your table so fast. Their chips and salsa are tasty. We have sat in the main dining area and the bar area and both times we could easily talk with those across the table from us. I've been wanting to try this place a couple of times now so myself and two others decided to try it out. Walking in the place looks very nice with a good atmosphere. As this was a pre-escape room stop we decided to each get a drink, eat some chips and salsa, and have a small bite. First off was the chips and salsa and they were overall pretty good! Both were complimentary and the salsa was good as well. Next were the drinks, a couple margaritas (one house and one coronarita) and a Bahama mama. The Bahama Mama tasted as if there was no rum so it was just a $10 orange juice with some grenadine. The margaritas I thought tasted good but also tasted as if there was no alcohol in them. The mix for the margarita maybe just covered up the tequila taste. For a snack we each got a taco, one ground beef and one chicken. The tacos were just the meat and lettuce so don't expect cheese. I think the chicken one I had tasted average. Overall, everything was just average tasting. What dropped the overall rating was the price of what you got. The coronarita was $16, the Bahama mama was $10, and the tacos were $4 each. The comparison I'd have to give for food was to On the Border. Tl;dr - The higher price tag for what you get didn't seem worth it to me. If I was in the mood for a margarita I would only go there for that and chips and salsa. read more

This ended up being an average experience all around. The service was a little spotty it was just missing something. Place was very clean almost too clean. You could smell some strong cleaning products lingering around the whole time. Food was decent. My dish that had cheese sauce on it barely had any. So I asked for more and got the smallest cup of it and they charged me $2. Which is fine if it wasn't so small, it didn't even cover the dish still. Don't get me wrong, the food was great, and you should really check it out, but my husband ordered corn tortillas and they gave him flour. He went ahead and ate one of the flour tortillas before our server came around and he told him that he had ordered corn. We have become frequent visitors to Mi Tequila and I can happily say my family will return. The atmosphere is relaxed and yet decorated with flair. There is a bar area but it isn't dark and closed off like many other Mexican restaurants I've been too. We have enjoyed every meal we've gotten. My wife's favorite is the crispy burrito that features chorizo on top. I've tried burritos, enchiladas, and a few other dishes. If you're VERY hungry, try the Mi Tequila Burrito - stuffed with steak and chicken, beans and lettuce. You'll take some home for another meal. But truly, I have to tell you there is something special about their beans. They aren't fancy, nor do they have any flavor that jumps out ... but they are soooo good! My 9 year old wants two orders of beans when we go and none of us leave any on our plate. I can't really describe why they are so good, but there is something just right! read more

We arrived to this small town after a relatively long drive from the airport. Mi Tequila wasn't the best-rated Mexican Restaurant in the area, but the food pics looked better than others. I know good Mexican Food when I see it. After seeing the pics I felt confident that this was the restaurant for this hungry Californian family. the restaurant was large, clean, and welcoming. the prices were excellent. and the the food was so good we dined her me twice. first time I had the chicken chimichanga with rice and bean. It was delicious, with melted white cheese sauce over the top. second time I had the al pastor tacos -- spicy and SO good! my son had the ground beef enchilada that was a little oily for his liking but next he had the ground beef taco and that was a total hit! my husband had the spicy enchiladas twice and the service at this restaurant was fast, friendly, and accommodating. If I ever found myself back in Northern Michigan, I'd dine here again, and again! I highly recommend Mi Tequila. read more

Server took 15 minutes getting to us, but it was a friday night so it was a bit busy. Ordered Burrito Verdes with beef and Steak Fajitas. The beef on the burrito was pretty grainy, almost sand paperish, very lightly seasoned. The steak was also very lightly seasoned, almost like it was next to the spices and deemed good enough. The vibe in the store was good, I did appreciate that. I've been here several times, I feel like almost things have gone down in quality since it has opened.
