They have no flavoring in their meat. It's just they opened up a can of sauce, dumped it on top and heated it up.

They have some of the best chips and salsa, awesome margarita options and new specials all the time! I can't count the number of times I've gone, and I've had a great experience every single time! The portions here are huge! The enchiladas are packed full & the guajillo sauce is smoky & has a little kick! Fajitas are always a show stopper, and Red Mesa's are packed with flavor & come out sizzling hot! This was my first time trying the birria bombs and I would totally recommend starting out with these any time you stop by!

We weren't disappointed my shrimp enchiladas were great, my wife's quesadillas came just like she ordered, my brother in law's carnitas were outstanding and my other brother in law's and his wife's tacos were very good also. The portions were just right, the spice level wasn't too spicy for anyone and the food came out hot and timely. The place is decorated as most Mexican restaurants are with bright colors and the music playing added a nice touch, not too loud so we could talk. Our server was attentive and we got everything we asked for. A good stop.

Crazy that this Mexican food eatery with a small yet delicious menu sits within a 42,000-square-foot building that formerly served as an equestrian center. Now it's an eatery inside several rooms - a part of the largest distillery in Michigan. The BIG room, on a colored, swirling and polished cement floor is decorated with couches, picnic tables, a large screen for videos and corn-hole boards and other games. My spouse and I ordered a quesadilla filled with chicken, avocado, peppers. onions and cheese ($16). YUM. Prepared on a 10-inch tortilla, it was served with limey-tasting sauce of sour cream in a tiny ramekin. We picked it up at the window in the long hallway on the side of the distillery and ate at a picnic table with our bottles of Mexican Coke and Lime Jarrito in the big hall. Although the price is a bit more than we usually spend for a top-notch quesadilla, we probably will return for fish (cod) taco $6.00. The only major drawback is the distance between the parking area and the restaurant and distillery. It's up a myriad of steep steps, although there is a drop-off area near the building for those who are physically impaired.

Outside the fray of downtown Petoskey, El Cilantro has a much more relaxed vibe. It's close to the state park and ideal for hungry campers or bikers riding from Petoskey to Harbor Springs. The server definitely gets five plus stars. Helpful, fun and attentive. We enjoyed the complementary chips and salsa while waiting for our food. Our shrimp tacos, which we shared, were enough for two or one very hungry person. They looked appealing, served in a casual "basket" plate. Though everything was fine and satisfying, we both felt there was a lack of seasoning that would have made our meal next-level. We are from Southern California and may have higher standards and more experience with Mexican cuisine than most. The level of flavoring and spice would surely appeal to the palate that does not crave much heat or traditional spices. As campers, we will definitely keep El Cilantro on our list to visit for future trips.

The shrimp tacos were outstanding- best we've had! The Birrias were perfectly prepared and full of flavor. I also really loved their salsa - freshly made and you could tell. The rice and beans were not even warm, the Burrito and Chimichanga were lukewarm at best. They also charge for salsa and chips. The salsa had no flavor, it was more like just a bowl of crushed tomatoes. Even the cheap store bought salsa is better than this. Service was slow, it took well over 20 minutes to get our food after we ordered. It would be one thing if they were crowded, they weren't. We were there on a Tuesday at 2pm and there were only about 12 other customers in the restaurant at that time. So IMO, no reason for the long wait for our food. Our waiter was great, it was his first day on the job and even though the kitchen didn't have their game on, he did everything in his power to make sure we were accommodated. The ambiance was nice, however, their bathrooms were not clean at all. I would not recommend this restaurant. If you want really good Mexican food, go to Mangos Tequila bar and Grill. They just opened a new one on Wilder Road and I 75, Bay City. They also have one in East Tawas, and Alpena. They are family owned and have great Mexican food. Not only is the food hot, it is served on heated plates that are to hot to touch, so it stays heated through your whole meal.
