Exceptional Evening at Chandler's My wife and I had a wonderful evening at Chandler's in Petoskey. We shared an entrée and enjoyed a wonderful glass of Italian wine, and everything was really exceptional. We also ordered sushi, which unfortunately took quite a while to come out. It actually arrived after we had finished our entrée! To Chandler's credit, they handled it beautifully and took the sushi off our bill. That kind of gesture says a lot about a restaurant's commitment to its guests. The food was excellent, the atmosphere was terrific, and our server was outstanding--attentive, friendly, and professional without being intrusive. Overall, it was a memorable dining experience, and we would absolutely return. Chandler's is definitely one of the places we would recommend to anyone visiting Petoskey. read more

I've dined here many times over the last several years. We started with the beef tartare. It was very good. My wife had the scallops and they were delicious. I had the duck and it was disappointing. The texture was rubbery and chewy. It lacked flavor. I finished it but wouldn't order it again. They serve it medium rare which is fine with me but my wife thought it was too red. The atmosphere is nice in the wine cellar and our server was excellent. She was very prompt and attentive. The prices are reasonable. read more

Chandler's is a Northern Michigan fine dining hidden gem! The dishes here are well developed, have excellent flavor & are executed perfectly! The service is incredibly helpful, professional & friendly! The atmosphere is incredible, & dining in the wine cellar is a must!! There are no wrong choices here, everything is seriously phenomenal! The steak tartare is a great starter to share with the table, the amount of crab in the crab cakes is fantastic, and serving the caesar in a parmesan tuile makes it that much more fun to eat! The boar shank I had made for the perfect winter meal, it is fall off the bone tender & the sweet potato gnocchi pairs so well with it! The salmon florentine is another beautiful dish & you have to enjoy the amazing wine selection they offer! read more

The food here was very quality, the beef tartare appetizer was especially good. The menu was a little limited but, while halibut usually isn't my first choice, it was still very good. The staff was very attentive and made room for all of our food given the little outdoor table we sat at. read more

Not what it used to be. Still the same old crowded space that could stand to lose a couple of tables for the sake of customer comfort. At least in the past it was something you could put up with since the food was very good. That isn't the case anymore. The food was mediocre at best, and far overpriced for the quality. The cocktails were entirely too strong. I understand this is a local preference, but the pour on my old fashioned was far too heavy, the same was true of my wife's vodka cranberry. We have been coming her for years, generations actually, but I no longer feel like it is worth the money or our time. read more

Great quality food ! The chefs/ cooks obviously understand taste ! Everything we had was amazing quality and very flavorful. It was a bit chilly out , so We started with the mushroom bisque special. It was so good I want the recipe and would literally put this on top of everything I cook at home!!! Misty our waitress suggested the burger and it was as good as advertised! My husband ordered it but I beefed for at least 2 more bites after tasting bit ! So good. I wanted the crispy chicken sandwich which apparently Is also popular, but needs some greens. I ended up ordering the kiwi strawberry salad ( kale ) and she allowed me to add crispy chicken on top. Best of both worlds! I will say the crispy chicken is VERY spicy FYI . Ambiance is cute. They have indoor & outdoor seating. Owe sat indoors and it was fun to watch the cooks at work. We would definitely make it a priority if ever visiting this area again ! read more

In town for business and decided to give Chandler's a try--what a find! It's an intimate spot with maybe 10 tables inside, plus seating at the bar and outdoors. I lucked out with a fabulous server named James Brown (yes, really), who kept things smooth and upbeat. Now let's talk about the food. The crab cakes? Best ever. But the real surprise star was the brûléed lemon slice served with them--a simple lemon wedge, dusted with sugar and torched to golden perfection. I could've eaten a whole plate of just those lemons. The filet was cooked spot-on, super tender, and swimming in a ridiculously tasty Périgueux sauce--think madeira, truffle juice, maybe a little brown sugar, and whatever other magic goes into making something that good. read more

As I previously reviewed I was here with my family on vacation at nearby Bay Harbor. This was our first time here in historic old town Petoskey with my family of seven including three adults and three young children. We visited here in the morning for shopping. When it came time for lunch I found a very nice local restaurant on Yelp for lunch namely Chandler's. This was our first time here. Chandler's opened in December 1999 behind the iconic Symons general store building. embodying a chic European feel. Chandler's has three dining areas for guests to enjoy- the main dining room includes the bar, the patio which is available in warmer months, and Symons wine cellar. We were lucky to get a large table for lunch without a reservation. My family of seven including two pre-schoolers and one elementary school child were seated at the last large table in the rear of the main dining room to the right of the kitchen and restrooms. The main dining room was very dark. I started with and enjoyed my Chandler's signature Manhattan up with angel's envy bourbon, carpano antica vermouth, peychaud's bitters and an orange peel for $23. I also enjoyed my 5 dragon sandwich with marbled rye, corned beef, swiss cheese, spicy slaw & thai dipping sauce for $15. Overall we were all happy with our lunch. My total bill was $208 excluding gratuity. Mckenna served us very well. read more

After a day on the beach hunting for Petoskey stones, we had an early dinner here (without a reservation four of us were able to get in about 4:30 PM on a weekday). Fun little spot downstairs that has an outside option that was already fully reserved, but also several tables along a small bar in a narrow underground-vibe restaurant. Smaller, upscale menu and daily specials including local wine selections that were truly great including dry options (rarity for this part of the country). Our table shared a crabcake appetizer (we knew there were only 2 as noted by our server), a halibut entrée and three duck breast entrees prepared with an Asian flair including a cold slaw that seemed unexpected but overall went over well. The kind of place where there is not salt or pepper on the table but none of us felt the need anyways. Attentive service from staff who are clearly patient with each other needing to navigate the narrow access back-and-forth from the storage/prep/kitchen area to service including outside. Honestly the only thing that would have been better is if they had not permitted a couple to stand near the bar after it was full and block the only walking path causing staff to need to weave between all the tables. Although we've been coming to the Petoskey area for many years, we haven't tried Chandler's. Boy were we missing out! On our last trip we enjoyed a fantastic lunch. We tried the chicken sandwich, prime rib and their version of a rueben. Plus a cup of tomato bisque. Everything was fantastic! We also loved the atmosphere. Northern Michigan is covered in snow right now, so it was a cozy and intimate little retreat! Drinks were well made - we tried the refreshing Howard Street Punch, and I watched the bartender expertly make quite a few martinis. Definitely adding Chandler's to our normal rotation! read more

What a lovely little place. We passed it a few times and I just had to go in! They open early on the weekends and offer brunch. The food looked amazing. We were only there to have a drink (which turned into two lol). We enjoyed a couple of bloody Marys which had the perfect amount of heat. I have been on a gin kick so I got a Gin and Roses and The Last Word Gin Martini. Both were so refreshing. But definitely got my buzz going. Haha. Let's just say we were both in very good moods! The service was great and if you sit at the bar you can watch them prepare your food. I can't wait to come back and sit out side this summer! read more

Upon driving into Petoskey, we immediately went in for dinner. I couldn't believe how busy the restaurant was a Monday night! We ordered the crab cakes, filet, and a creme brulee. Solid crab cakes. Plenty of crab and not too much filler. The areas that were pan seared were delightfully crisp. The filet was perfectly medium rare with tender vegetables. My personal dish was the elk. They were shaped like thinly cut SPAM, but they were tender and tasty. No game flavor. The brulee was good. It had a nice thick layer of sugary glass and a nice custard. I happened to make it a 2nd visit the same week. This time I got the Maple Leaf Duck Breast. It was perfectly rendered, so the skin didn't have any excess fat. I love duck and this dish was excellent. I could do without the flower since I'm not going to eat it. For dessert, the Chocolate Torte was fine. It came with sliced strawberries, but I'd rather have the brulee. If I lived in Petosky, I could see myself going to Chandler's often. read more

This a quaint old fashioned alley Bar and Grill with great food. The juicy smash burger was well prepared, presentation was a 10 out of 10. The chocolate torte melted in you mouth. I suggest you have it with a cup of . The staff were friendly and upbeat. Would have loved to sit outside. Maybe next time. The alley just outside the bar was decorated with trees and greenery. They strung outside patio lighting which created a warm friendly yet quiet setting for a couples meal or even a lunch meeting. Wow, Chandler's was pretty fantastic across the board. I went with a large group for brunch and we were seated in their beautiful wine room. Although we didn't get any wine, they have a huge selection of different varietals from around the world. Our server was very patient with our large party, and even nice enough to offer and do 8 individual checks! I am not a burger girlie, but from their brunch menu, it looked like the tastiest option - wagyu meat, pancetta, onion jam, smoked gouda, and roasted poblano aioli. It was really good, and was great paired with the potato chips. Definitely recommend Chandler's if you want a top notch experience! read more

Chandler's - a classic but our experience last night was a bit disappointing We have really enjoyed Chandler's and this was our 3rd visit in 4 years when we visit N Mich from AZ Paul is a fantastic host and server - we've had the same table for all 3 visits and Paul has served us each time as well The shrimp cocktail was phenomenal - photo of shrimp is only half of the serving as my wife and I shared The filet was disappointing- please bring back the old steak sauce and the asparagus! Charred carrots are just too bitter, pearl onions are ok but there were no mushrooms on the plate. For $58 you expect a better meal...last night was not it and the filet was very small (I get it - inflation etc. We'll be back next summer but please bring back the old steak sauce! Rich accommodated me on a busy Thursday dinner rush at the bar. He had my seat waiting & made my dinner a pleasure by getting me in and out as my dogs don't like me leaving them too long at home. This was the best late night find! It is definitely a low lit date night spot whether that be with a spouse or the girls. It is cute & quiet. What a great little place! After a long drive, my husband and I unloaded our car and walked into town, hoping we would be able to get a table . There were two available seats at the bar and we happily grabbed them. We split the Bulgogi lettuce cups (delicious blend of flavors), crab cakes (anmazing!) and then a Caesar salad (delicious dressing, fresh greens and served in a Parmesan crisp "cup") Delicious, satisfying and great service. Last weekend my husband took me out for brunch. Food was great and waiter was extremely kind! I got the Eggs Jupiter and it was cooked and prepared perfectly. However, what ruined my experience was the hostess. From the moment I walked up, the hostess barely acknowledged me--no smile, no "welcome," just a curt "You have a reservation?" Her tone felt more like an interrogation than a warm invitation. When I told her we had a reservation, she simply looked at me and said "Table is not ready yet." And continued to go onto her iPad. No apology or anything. At one point when we were waiting, I even watched her snap at one of her colleagues for simply asking a question. All told, the impression we received from the hostess was cold rather than warm and cared for (which is what we all expected). I hope management addresses this as the food and atmosphere was great-but this initial interaction made my meal feel unsettling. read more

First time in Petoskey and our host recommend this place when we asked for sushi place. They don't have a lot of sushi around here and some of them were closed permanent :( They are very dog friendly! The service was good from the very beginning with the host and the server. The food for me it was just okay, the spicy tuna was so small, I could eat 2 of them in the same time...but I didn't no worries lol. I also get lettuce tuna wrap, which I really don't know how to explain about this dish. It's a little wired, not a very good fusion food. Felt like it's missing so many thing, but unfortunately, I don't know what it's missing. The portion was a little small and I think they can do better on the presentation as well. My husband got the cheese board and wine. he said it's sooo good, he was very happy with his choices! The lady who was our server explained each of everything very well, impressed! On one of the snowy afternoon's visiting Petoskey, we wanted to try Chandler's. It was a little weird to find if just looking directly at Google Maps but the entrance is on the side and a little tucked back. We had a great brunch and everything was delicious! The sizing was perfect and we enjoyed everything we tried. I do think it would be a different experience to try for dinner (I hear it does get a little pricey compared to lunch) but worth a shot since it all smelled and sounded great! read more

This is for their service and front of the house. My husband and I went with his service animal. They asked for paperwork (which they cannot ask) and even said they are uncomfortable with us eating there with his dog. Under HIPAA and ADA they are not suppose to ask for any documentation or demonstration. Per the State of Michigan law and Federal law, service animals are welcome in all establishments and again, they can ask what he does but nothing more. We did inform them what he does but the manager wasnt comfortable and we left. The food here is so expensive and just mediocre. We ordered a Caesar salad - it came in a bowl made of Parmesan cheese. It was chewy and very salty. Ordered a California roll, it was very salty and very small, about an inch diameter with ten soggy pieces. I ordered a bowl of asparagus soup ,, very disgusting, it tasted like thick pepper soup. Ordered a spinach salad, it was so saturated with vinegar.. the total bill was $120.00 for this disgusting meal . Will never come back here read more
