I saw this place on google maps and they have over 200 reviews there, i was shocked to come over to yelp to see only 2! I stopped in here today for the first time and i almost didnt. I pulled up at 5:15 pm on monday night and it was empty. I get thats a bit early plus its monday. I decided to go for it.
This is clearly an authentic Oaxacan Mexican restaurant. They didn't speak English but we communicated fine with google translate and the menu had descriptions of everything in English. While i was sitting there i was googling menu itema bc its all very different from what ive seen/had before in Mexican food. If your favorite part of a mexican food experience is chips and salsa, you may be disappointed. I'm not sure if they had them but they didn't bring them out like most places seem to, however i have read that thats an american thing, and not a real thing in traditional Mexican cuisine.
I asked my waitress what she recommended and she pointed out the Tlayuda so i went with that and had pork for my meat. To drink, i ordered the maracuya which was passionfruit juice. $5 for a huge jar. It must be a quart? It was all so yummy. The Tlayuda reminded me of a quesadilla but different and it just felt authentic. I have no frame of reference but i would love to come back and try more things. The food was delish and plentiful. It came out quickly and i felt like everything was fairly priced. I was able to get a to go cup for my juice and am currently enjoying it as i write this review.
The ambiance inside was cute and clean. I really liked the simple decor that they have. Im so curious about the little baskets hanging from the ceiling. read more
