I had the pleasure of meeting the owner of MHS/LOMACK heating and air when he personally stopped by my house to address an issue I was having with my AC unit. At that time I had expressed an interest in purchasing a mini split for the master bedroom. He was so helpful and knowledgeable as he explained how effective the unit runs and how the lines are ran from outside to the inside unit. I had the mini split installed and I am beyond pleased. But what really matters is that when there were minor bumps, this company was fully committed to great customer service with a positive attitude and sincere concern for us, the client. I cannot say enough good things about the team at MHS from the first call to the last. I live on the east coast and have a home in SD that needed a new HVAC syste. When I called MHS they made it all so easy for me. Everything was done via phone and email. Follow up was BEYOND GREAT. Due to my own fault, I failed to ask them to keep the thermostat that was already there connected instead of installing a new one (it's a smart home and everything is connected) After installation when I realized they had removed it and mentioned it to them, they went back to install it. Not at all what I expected, since I had made the error. Just one of many reasons they are a 5 star company. They are professional, friendly, in constant communication about what is happening, when it's happening and how it's happening. After they were done installing the guys who did the install even called and video chatted me through the house so I could see the work. AMAZING! MHS was a sub-contractor for my new condo building. Upon moving in, I found numerous HVAC problems caused by MHS. The problems were: 1. 3 zone system was completely mis-wired. Ducts on the wrong floors were blowing at the wrong time. Took two, not one, visits by different techs to straighten out. First tech that tried to fix it failed to resolve all the issues. 2. One of the vents in the kitchen was not blowing air. When they tore down the ceiling, they discovered the duct was compressed and the holes in the joists were not big enough. Had to replace the ducting and enlarge the joist holes to properly install the duct. 3. Numerous leaks in the attic ducting. One guy came out, and said he fixed several leaks. The next guy that came out found ANOTHER leak, that required fixing. Two trips to fix leaks that should have been caught during construction. All in all it took FOUR visits by MHS to fix all the problems, not to mention visits by drywall repair persons and painters to fix the ceiling damage caused by replacing the ducts. The quality of MHS work in this NEW condo was shotty at best. Clearly they didn't even test the zoning, didn't do proper leak detection, and overall did a very poor job! I would NEVER use this company, as clearly their workers are incompetent and do crappy work. Fortunately all of these problems were covered under my home warranty, so I was not out of pocket any money. But it did waste many hours of my time, caused messes in the house, and was quite aggravating. LOOK ELSEWHERE. read more

My Condo's AC stopped blowing cool air a few days ago. I made an appointment with another company who sent out a tech to diagnose the issue but then notified me that they couldn't perform the work required for another 5 days. With a holiday weekend approaching and daily highs in Escondido reaching 90+ degrees I couldn't wait this long and went looking for other options. After several other companies brushed me off Steve at MHS empathized with my situation and promised to get a tech out to me the same afternoon. The technician (James) that arrived to work on my system was a great guy to work with and clearly explained every step, and the related costs, along the way to resolution. There were a LOT of stairs involved both to the 3rd floor blower inside my home and the rooftop AC unit and despite the challenges these and the 92 degree weather presented he stayed in good humor the entire time. I am writing this review from a cooled home after 3 agonizingly warm days that left me unable to even use my upper floor and I am happy to recommend this company. I'm very pleased with the service I received from MHS. A friend referred me to them when I couldn't get anyone to respond over the weekend. MHS responded on a Sunday and diagnosed my problem. Unfortunately my problem was going to necessitate ordering replacement parts that just wasn't going to happen on a Sunday. Since part of my system was really old I was provided several options to bring it up to current standards (my call) as well as just fixing the existing problem and going forward. I elected to update part of the system as an adjunct to fixing the current problem. MHS provided a quote and credited me the call-out fee from the weekend. The work was completed within two days of giving the go ahead and the price was exactly as quoted. I don't know what else I can ask for as a consumer: Good service, on budget and on time. read more

After he inspected my home, I received a couple of quotes from him by the end of that day. Once my husband and I decided to move forward with MHS, the installation was scheduled and completed within 1 week. I had received other quotes from other companies, which were astronomically higher than MHS in addition to delayed installation of the equipment of about a month out. On the day of installation, John and Abraham were awesome! They explained the process to me and completed the job in a timely manner. This is my first ever Yelp review . MHS inspired me to hopefully help other homeowners avoid common scams in the remodeling and construction industry. There is a reason most remodels always cost double the price quoted and take twice as long to complete . I gave two stars because the work is first class . However we already went past our budget and time line and so did not like the fact that MHS coworkers took a 2 hour break and billed us for it . Each co worker charges $65.00 an hour , so that is $130.00 an hour for two workers and thus $260.00 extra was billed while they left the job site . Apparently they BOTH , had to go "get a part" for the Job . However Home Depot is just 5 minutes from my house and I could have gone to get it and they could have stayed on the job to WORK . Also I don't think they needed a part, it's' just the difference of being able to bill for a 5 hour day vs a 3 hour day . They know what they need for a vent job . Leaving to go get a part for 2 hours is one of the oldest tricks in the books. I hired a consultant for my remodel vs a general contractor . The workers did not know my contractor was in fact a consultant . A contractor would have just paid them and then added 18-25% to the clients bill, yours truly. So contractors don't really care if subcontractors over bill on jobs because it's more money for them, it's an industry . However my consultant felt bad that my job was not finished on time and that I was paying to live in a hotel while my job was being finished . So my consultant tried to save me money wherever he could and I paid all the sub contractors not my consultant . My Consultant hired MHS because they worked on a previous job that he was on and so pulled them into my job . However that job was a much bigger scaled job and they were paid by the contractor who then billed the client. So they were able to leave the job site whenever they wanted to go " get parts " as no one cared , because it was just more money for the contractor . So if you hire them , just let them know if they need to leave to ," get parts" that you will not pay for them to do that . And to have all parts needed before they get to the job , which is what a professional does . read more

They went ahead with the install of the complete new system and my customer is super happy and cool again. We've used MHS Heating & Air Conditioning a few times over the last few years. We have two air conditioning units. In the past, they did fix the problem but they just seemed kind of expensive. Our latest issue was a couple of weeks ago when we noticed that there was water leaking from the attic, which caused a small, dripping leak into our master bedroom closet. When we figured out that the leak was caused by the condenser on the A/C and not a plumbing issue, I called MHS. They came out the next day, and the technician said that there was some rust in the catch pan for the condenser and he recommended that he install this short rubber tube that dissolves deposits in the water which clog the drain line for the condenser. He said this simple fix would likely solve the problem for a few years. This fix cost me $240.00. The next morning, water was leaking into the closet but it was much more than a drip now. It was much heavier than before. So I called MHS again. This time, another technician came out and went into the attic to see what was going on. He came back down and said that there were some major issues that needed to be addressed. The whole unit needed to be moved, the coil needed to be replaced, and ductwork needed to be repaired. I asked why this wasn't mentioned yesterday, and he said that he didn't know. As he left, he said that the office would get back to me on an estimate and a time to schedule the repair. The estimate ended up being $2,400.00, but they said that this price included a credit of the $240.00 I had already paid. They asked me if I wanted to schedule a time, and I told them that I wanted to think about it. They tentatively scheduled a time for the following week to lock in a time for me. I then called Arctic Air, another A/C repair company, and they came out the same day to review the issue. I showed them the list of repairs MHS recommended, and after he went up to inspect, he came down and confirmed that the issues mentioned were correct. I then asked for an estimate. He said that he would get back to me the next day. The next day, Arctic Air called back and said the complete repair would cost $1,600.00. I agreed, they came out and fixed it the following day. I'm giving two stars to MHS (instead of one) because I think they're generally honest. But I felt the service was lacking (obviously with the first visit making the problem worse) and for giving me an estimate that was far higher than a competitor EVEN AFTER factoring in a $240 credit for services already rendered. I'm glad I shopped around. read more

We recently switched from a badly installed HVAC system to mini-splits. MHS at first pointed out the deficiencies, code violations and other problems that the previous owner of the home apparently installed himself. No doubt to save money. Unfortunately, all he accomplished was putting lipstick on a pig due to the decrepit condition of the old ducts that were both undersized and falling apart. They were so badly dilapidated that no one would clean them. MHS sent out Steve and Johnnie. Steve was an expert on our old systems and the Mitsubishi split systems we chose to replace them. He provided a high level of knowledge and an enviable work ethic. My wife kept offering to make them lunch but they kindly declined and worked straight through the day. His partner Johnnie was an inspiration of upbeat positivity during the week that they deactivated, and removed our two existing HVAC systems as well as installing two mini-spilt systems. We had an animal chew the outside wires that control our AC compressor. MHS came out and gave us our options. We decided to go with the wireless option. Everything worked great for 11 months, but it stopped working one day. MHS came back out and fixed an issue with the outside housing (at no cost to us). I would recommend MHS Heating & Air Conditioning to any business or home owner. We had out AC unit go out in the middle of the summer and they were prompt to come out and diagnose the problem. Their technician was able to create a workaround to get the unit up and running the same day so we would not all melt while we waited a couple days for a special order part to arrive. They provided top notch service and professionalism at a more than fair price. Recently one of our two air conditioning units stopped blowing cold air. It was still blowing just wasn't cold. We had a technician from MHS come out and we were told that we had a leak somewhere and we had two options. Both options were going to cost us well over $1000. $600 just for refrigerant (not even the repair!) in one unit. We were then told our other unit (the one that had been working just fine) also had a leak and would require several more pounds of refrigerant. At $60 dollars per pound it adds up when you are told you need upwards of 15 pounds! Again this wasn't even going to include the necessary repairs! Needless to say we were shocked. We had just built our house 3 1/2 years earlier and couldn't believe that these units were so defective already. We were going to just bite the bullet, pay for the repairs, so our 2 and 3 year old could sleep through the current heat wave. Instead we decided to call the actual manufacturer and get a second opinion. Boy am I glad we did. The second company came out, added superseal (to block the small leak) and he added a total of 3.5 pounds of refrigerant at $40 dollars per pound. A far cry from almost 15 lbs! Our air is working wonderfully and we paid 495.00 total with the other company including repairs and refrigerant! What a difference. They didn't do any work for us so I certainly can't say they do poor work. They are, however, more expensive than other company's in comparison. If you have this company come out I might be leary of the prices, at a minimum. At least get a second opinion. I'll give two stars because the technician actually recommended calling the manufacturer. read more

I was in a pinch. My A/C went out on a hot day and after waiting almost 36 hours to be stood up my another company I was starting to panic a bit. I called MHS and someone was dispatched within the hour. The tech Gabriel showed up and was polite and professional. I worried that my 16 year old system would finally need to be replaced causing a huge cost I could not afford at the moment. After a few minutes Gabriel told me that it was just a couple parts that he had on his truck and together the parts would be approx $200. He allowed me to ask numerous questions and monitor his diagnosis since I wanted to learn more about my unit. He was very informative and gave me a heads up to start saving for a new unit since mine is old and would last one or two more summers depending on usage. He did not try to up-sell me or force me to replace unit now. I like the honesty, speed, and great work that was done. It has been a couple weeks now and everything is still running smoothly. Stay away unless you like getting ripped off. I called MHS because my mom's ac wouldn't cool the house. They told me they charged a $99.00 service fee. (Note: most companies apply the service fee to the cost of the repair. MHS didn't). The guy came out and diagnosed the problem quickly. An electrolytic capacitor was bad. He put in a new capacitor, which took less than 5 minutes to do, and I was charged $170.00 for it !! (Total cost was $269.00 for a repair that took less than 15 minutes to diagnose and fix). You can buy these capacitors on-line at Repair-Clinic, Parts-Select, and other on-line sites for around $17.00 -- i.e. TEN TIMES LESS than what MHS charged me for the same thing. I called the owner of MHS to complain about the price gouging. We had a cordial conversation, but she refused to give an inch. So, bottom line is I got ripped off. But that's the last time they will ever rip me off because I will never do business with them again. My advice to those reading this review is If you don't want to be ripped off, you shouldn't do business with them either. read more

I'm hesitant to give these guys 2 stars because they were very nice throughout the entire process, but Yelp's definition of "Meh. I've experienced better." is the perfect rating I would give them. Our AC went out on a Saturday night, and I called a few places on Sunday. No one would come out, but MHS contacted me at 8:30 AM on Monday and said they would be there around 9 AM. I was very excited about that. The service guy came and was very unclear to us about what was wrong after spending 2 hours on a diagnosis. But I understood it to be a compressor and possibly a blower to be replaced. He had mentioned that it was getting a little expensive, and they would contact me with a quote later that day. I did not receive a quote that day, and called the next morning to follow up. They assured me a quote would be emailed to me before noon - and it was. But the quote was $6300 to replace my furnace and AC unit plus another $1000 for permitting - that's $7300 for a unit that was working 3 days prior. To say the least, I was a little shocked. I talked to the office manager and told him that I wanted to be sure that this was the most effective repair, and to make sure that my unit was not repairable. He said he understood that we were expecting to replace the unit and would get back to me. Then, I took a look at the work order form that came with the quote and summarized the diagnosis - I noticed that a few items were added to the work order form after my wife signed it. That just seems really strange to me on a signed document. What's the point of signing it then? Later that day, the technician came again to try and explain the diagnosis (this time pretty clearly) that he thought it was the compressor and the blower motor. Then, the service manager called me to come by the next morning and do another check without any service charge - all of this is is to their credit. But everything just seemed fishy to me at that point after backpedaling like that and I went with another company. Maybe it was just an honest communication error, but I had someone else come out and they replaced ONLY the compressor and everything works great. I understand that miscommunications can happen, and quite a few people really tried to clear things up once I started questioning things - but I had to start questioning things. When I feel like you're toying with my wallet I get pretty jumpy and I don't get the impression that you're taking that into consideration. read more

After 43 years in their house, my mom said that she has finally "found an A/C company that is dependable, courteous, and fair in price". After having six different companies bid on their A/C fix, were several suggested they needed to replace everything, MHS came in and said what honestly needed to be fixed and what did not, saving them several thousand dollars. We had our A/C go out recently during the hot spells here in San Diego. It stopped blowing cool air. I called several companies around town leaving messages. It was after 5pm so figured I would have to wait until the next day. Got a call back immediately from MHS and someone was at my house in under 30minutes. I cant remember his name right now (maybe it was James) but he was AWESOME! Quickly started trouble-shooting the issue. He had no issue with me following him around and learning everything he was doing. Quickly identified that the issue was a capacitor and switched it out. He was very professional and informative. Answered all my kids questions as they pestered him with everything he was doing. Got the A/C pumping out air several degrees color than before he started. I will be using them again.
