Our 20 year old air conditioning unit failed, at one of the worst times. Free Air Mechanical was here the same day, to diagnose the problem & replace the motor. This was completed the same day, at a reasonable price; with good workmanship. read more

This company is awesome!!! Independently owned by Father & Son. They are quick, efficient & friendly. Can't go wrong hiring them!

This review is an update to my August 30, 2023. Our HVAC suddenly stop working recently. We called up Petko and his team and they came out right away to check out the problem. Thankfully, it was a quick fix, and they did not charge us for anything. Thank you again for the prompt response and coming out right away to fix the problem! Highly recommend. read more

Pete & his son took care of a couple of HVAC/furnaces. They are thoroughly professional and total experts. Very highly recommended

Update: This company serviced my mini-split A/C just under one year ago and it no longer blows cold air. Please think twice before you hire them, I would hate for you to have the same experience I have had. You have been warned. Good luck. read more

Peter and his company did a wonderful and timely job for me! Our furnace and air conditioner is up and running thanks to their hard work and determination. Even our dog loved them. Fair and transparent pricing and prompt service. A+! read more

Peter and his son were extremely professional and friendly. They were able to come out the following day and earlier than the arranged time. We had issues with both AC units and they inspected every aspect from the thermostat to the transformer, drain lines and the actual units. Our upstairs unit is running perfectly now, and they made some suggestions that will prevent future problems. The downstairs unit needs a part, but the thermostat was replaced and air is flowing again. Once the part comes in, I have no doubt he'll be back to fix it. If you want a repair team that is professional, efficient, thorough, fair and super friendly - these are your guys. They know our system inside and out, so they will be our go-to from now on! read more

Responsive, professional, timely. My air conditioner is now working again!! Thank you

Petko and his team did an excellent and efficient job with our minisplit install this past summer. Recently we had a fuse blow out all of a sudden. I messaged Petko and they sent a technician the next day to have it fixed. Excellent accountability! read more

Extremely professional father/son air conditioning repair service. Came to my house as he was on his way home for the day. Checked out my entire unit and found the problem. Replaced capacitor and connector. AC back on and cooling! I have neighbors who called him the next day and happy with repair. No gouging or doing unnecessary repair. Very fair on pricing. Call him! You won't be dissappointed! read more

We needed our air conditioning serviced and scheduled PETKO to come out with his 2 sons. They even came over after we initially had a wrong number to send them our information. When we called to see why they didn't come, we realized our error with the number. It was after 7 pm already, but they still came. They were very friendly, polite. Excellent service, we'll definitely use them again!! read more

Honest and reliable local company. My HVAC stopped working and I thought I have to replace the whole unit since it's been very old. The owner just replaced the part that's just needed and my unit started working again. He was able to save me some money and gave me a quote for a new one in case in the future if I need to replace it. Highly recommended. read more

I got a call from my tenant at 8:00 AM on a Saturday saying they smelled smoke coming from the heating ducts, obviously this got my attention. Free Air Mechanical was referred to me by a work acquaintance so I looked them up on Yelp to see what others had to say. Needless to say I called Free Air within about 5 minutes of reading the reviews. I wish all referrals were as spot on as this one was. I called Free Air at about 8:30 and Peter (Petko) picked up the phone and was able to get out there the same morning. This immediately put my tenant at ease knowing we took this seriously. Unfortunately I didn't get good news but that had nothing to do with Petko's service. He gave me the options available to me and the approximate price it would take to fix it, and let me tell you, this was not an easy fix. The unit was on a raised platform 10 feet in the air. Petko had the knowledge and expertise to take the existing unit down so work could be done on the platform and put the new unit up in the same spot. Needless to say this was more than a 1 day job. We had a rainy spell during this time and Petko assured me the work would be done rain or shine, and true to his word that was in fact the case. When it came time to install the new unit I went to the house to see the progress and let me tell you, nothing lined up perfectly as the new unit had different ducting ports. I have been around for a while and can appreciate the true craftsman when I see one and Petko is in fact not only a Journeyman in his field but he is a Craftsman extraordinaire. He made the needed ducting BY HAND! With only a hand held sheet metal bending tool. It truly was a treat to watch someone that really knows what they are doing. Since Petko and his company Free Air Mechanical were referred to me and he did such an outstanding job I can't help but write him a review and hope that you, as did I give his company a call for any HVAC needs. read more

We were referred to these guys by a friend and they did a wonderful job! We had a few companies come out for estimates, and we chose Free Air because of how well they were able to convey the changes needed... Being an engineer I always want to know how systems work. Evo diagramed how they would extend my heating system to include central air and I could tell he knew his trade very well and had lots of experience. He was very honest and open with me through the whole process and even let me visit a current job so I could see first hand their level of quality. On the job I visited, and on my job, everything was top notch. We went with the slim fit condenser unit and we've gone through one summer and one winter with no issues. Their price was very competitive and work was excellent, I highly recommend! read more

I have found water leaking from my central AC and I quoted a couple of companies. Most other companies are big companies which just gave me standard answers and quotes. They seem to have a lot of margins by quoting up the price. Since I already had not so great experience with a big plumbing company who came to find out the leaking issue, I didn't feel like to use another big company for my AC. So I found this small business with just 5 reviews, but all 5 stars. Gave them a call and they are willing to come on the same day. Initially they said 5pm, but they are out working and actually arrived after 6pm. I expected that so it wasn't a problem for me. From our talking, I knew they are a father-son company, who just moved to San Diego from Canada a couple of years ago. They did the work right. They knew their trade very well and found problems quickly. They were also able to fix them without any problems. What I like the most is they care to explain me how AC works, what the problem is, and how to fix it. They also gave me reasonable prices, although I was able to negotiate down a bit. Compared to other quotes I got earlier, their price is very reasonable. I think they don't do a lot of residential repairs, mostly do installation. But to me they are very helpful. They also gave me warranty so if it breaks again I can call them back. It has been a couple of weeks and it's working fine so far. Their honesty and hardworking should be rewarded. They didn't ask me to write a review but I feel it is the right thing to do. I highly recommend them to others. read more

Had a great experience! Good prices and got finished installing our upstairs and downstairs A/C systems in one day. Highly recommend.

Free Air Mechanical delivered excellent service at a price that blows away the big advertised names. He and his son installed a 3 ton condenser on 8-04-2020. Their skill level was also superior to what I had received from the big names. He has been doing HVAC for sixteen years and it shows. Came on time, (actually a little early) and with a COVID mask. He was helpful, honest, and skilled. I will recommend him and his son to friends who want highly skilled work at an excellent price. I texted him that I also needed a UV bulb replacement for the evaporator coil and he texted back that he is calling his supplier as I write. Two thumbs up, 5 stars. Don B. read more

The AC was in VERY bad condition in our condo, Peter was able to give us an estimate over the phone then a formal estimate in person. His price was VERY reasonable and A LOT LOWER than any other contractors we contacted (4 other contractor estimates). He came with his own PPE, he completed the job in a timely manner and communication was always on point! He kept all his appointments and was always on time! I am a mechanical engineer so I know what we needed and didn't need, he did not recommend anything that we did not need and he was very straight forward. I recommend Peter for any HVAC jobs you may have and we would not be happier! The AC is working great and we are very thankful! read more

I highly recommend Free Air Mechanicals. We had a few other estimates that ranged from fixing our AC to completely replacing it. He was by far the most reliable, honest, patient and affordable. I would recommend him any day for any HVAC job. He doesn't have a ton of reviews yet because he only moved here two years ago with his family but trust me, he is the best! read more

By August in 2018, I was tired of discussing air conditioning with my wife. I'm hot and she's not. In the pool, it's reverse. She's comfortable and I feel like I'm being made into soup. So I called 4 companies. I showed up and never sent proposal. Next was so busy,it took 3 weeks for a sales visit. Another sent bid, but to wrong email. Petko came out within 3 hours. He emailed me proposal that evening as promised. His pricing was great, reviews great. He was personable and confident. We agreed to proceed and he came the following week to execute...exactly as agreed. He showed up on time, was very clean and delivered exactly what he committed to. I also had him change a filter on another system before he left the house. I am a contractor and appreciate being able to deal with the boss. read more

Petko did a great job with our dryer vent extension set-up. It was in a very awkward position originally (and vented into the garage), so he had to get creative with venting it to the outside. Quoted us an accurate and good price, and completed the job 2 days later. He was efficient, honest, and professional. read more

Our very old air conditioner stopped working in the 109 degree heat wave last week. I called Petko after reading reviews on Yelp and Nextdoor.com. I called him @ 2:30 and he was at our house @ 5 pm same day. He was able to get the condenser started but we knew it was on borrowed time. Today he installed a brand new unit at a resonable price. Very happy with his service and would definitely recommend. read more

I've had a handful of people come "fix" our A/C unit leak. Petko was definitely one of the most reliable and honest. I was able to make an appointment on the day I called. He gave me all the options after taking a look at the issue in either replacing the A/C unit of trying to fix the leak that is in the piping that no one has been able to diagnose. He guaranteed his work, and I appreciated his time and efforts to answer my questions. I would definitely recommend him to others. read more
