This is a cute second-floor restaurant with great ambiance and decor. We went during brunch and were served and sat immediately. We enjoyed trying different flavors of the mimosa flight. However, we thought the pumpkin waffles and the quiche both lacked flavor. This is a great place to try with friends!
Disappointing visit -was exceedingly and intolerably hot, no AC, and despite empty tables they did not accommodate us and the bat seating was cramped and untidy. Even the bartender told us it was her first day and she was sweating heavily but tried her best. The martini described on the menu with olives -blue cheese-stuffed, was not! We left after first drinks which turned out to be a blessing because we discovered an awesome Italian bar/resto that's listed as new best of Pittsburgh...more on that in a sep review.
Came for brunch with some friends who were getting a special event. They were pretty busy but we had made reservations ahead so they got us to our table quickly. After waiting for a while we had to flag the hostess down to ask where our waitress was because she brought water then nothing for 15 minutes. After ordering, the food and drinks came out fairly quickly. However, my order was wrong. I ordered the Frittata and they brought out the strawberry French toast instead. Rather than see them waste food I said it was fine and I would eat it instead. The French toast was ok, way too heavy on the strawberry jam. Overall an ok experience but the staff might have been overwhelmed. Our server never even brought us another bottle of water after we finished ours.
I went to Mezzo (second floor) two weeks before and this spot is a . classic italian food in a rustic environmen, hits all the right spot with great service. I will highly recommend to try their vodka sauce pizza and tiramisu. This can be a great spot for Valentine's Day as well.
My boyfriend and I went to Mezzo for Valentine's Day and it was perfect! We were worried that we would be packed in like sardines like most restaurants for Valentine's Day - but that wasn't the case! It was busy but not chaotic. I ordered an espresso martini with cream and it was super tasty! They did mention that they were out of almost all of the wine on their wine list, which would have been a bummer if that was what I was looking forward to drinking. For an appetizer we got the peach and tomato burrata and it was phenomenal! If it was acceptable to drink the oil it was in - I probably would have it was garlicky and perfect with the sweetness of the peach! The pitas it came with were also delicious - I wish we got more than 2 though. For our main meal, I got gnocchi with shrimp and vodka sauce. The amount of food was unreal and I'll probably be eating it for days! It was super tasty even though gnocchi isn't normally my first choice. My boyfriend got a porkchop with polenta and said it was amazing and juicy. The menu was shorter and different than the usual, but they had great options! Overall, I highly recommend Mezzo for any special occasion (and in general!)
My partner and I had dinner at Mezzo before heading to the theater, and the evening couldn't have been better. From the start, our host Alyssa set the tone: professional, welcoming, and attentive without being overbearing. She even offered salt and Parmesan cheese at the table, but it wasn't needed since the flavors from the kitchen stood perfectly on their own. The atmosphere was buzzing in the best way, with exposed brick walls and vintage Pittsburgh character that gave the space warmth and energy. It felt lively but still comfortable enough to enjoy a relaxed conversation. We shared the Burrata to start, then ordered the Horseradish-Crusted Salmon and the Short Rib Pasta, with a Caprese Arugula Salad on the side. Each dish was balanced and flavorful without being too heavy, the perfect pacing for a pre-show dinner. We ended with tiramisu and a cup of coffee, both rich and flavorful, and together they made a sweet finish to the evening. Service was smooth, the timing was spot on, and the overall experience felt well thought out. Prices are what you'd expect in the Cultural District for a high-quality dinner, and worth it for the food and setting. I highly recommend Mezzo if you want an excellent Italian meal before a show. The atmosphere is lively, the service is thoughtful, and the dishes truly deliver.
My sister and I went to Mezzo for Pittsburgh Restaurant week. It was absolutely delicious and service was excellent. We enjoyed house salads as well as dessert, but I completely forgot to snap those pictures. It was my first time trying panna cotta and it did not disappoint! It was so good and loaded with caramel. I highly recommend it. I can't wait to go again to try more!
Very good food, quick service, and tasty drinks! Our waitress was lovely and we felt well taken care of! Wasn't too busy on a Tuesday night. Portions were good, no leftovers!
I had a fun time dining at Mezzo. Mezzo is an Italian restaurant, which is located on the second floor of Sienna Mercato, a three-story complex of the same company that has an Italian-inspired establishment on each floor. Mezzo is a more traditional Italian restaurant, featuring wood-oven fire pizzas, pastas, small bites and cocktails. We had a reservation here, which I recommend making if you plan to dine on a Saturday night with a group. The dinner hour was pretty busy with groups. Located in downtown Pittsburgh, its location is walking distance to many other restaurants, bars, shops and lodging options. Our server was Daisy and she was awesome! Daisy was super friendly, checked in with us throughout our meal and made recommendations. I ended up just ordering an espresso martini and caesar salad, which were both solid. Everyone enjoyed their grub. It was a good time at Mezzo.
The only reason I am giving this restaurant a 2 star review is because their burrata appetizer was delicious. Other than this, I was in town with a group of girls for my friends bachelorette weekend, we chose to celebrate with a nice dinner at Mezzo. We were seated on time and greeted. We received drinks timely. After placing our order, our food took a very long time to come out and the restaurant was very hot causing many of the girls to take breaks in the bathroom because it was cooler. There were a group of 12 of us and we only received a water refill one time. After receiving our food, the waitress did not check on us once. Many of my friends told me that their food was almost tasteless. My seafood linguine dish was very bland, INSANELY spicy (which the menu reflected that there were red pepper flakes in the dish but this was an inedible amount of spice for a pasta), and the clams tasted like they were spoiled (sour). I am a HUGE foodie and love seafood and spice, but I could not even eat a bite without chugging water...which we did not have. The waitress came back to collect payments and saw that I had a full dish of food left and did not even ask if I enjoyed my food. I am a server and understand how important it is to check in with your guest and make sure it is everything they could want and more. She took my dish and left the table without returning or saying a word. I am not one to complain but was hoping the waitress would acknowledge my lack of consumption so that she could then tell the kitchen about my experience for future guests. Sadly, I will not be returning to this restaurant, a previous review showed mold on their cake and this experience turned me off to the establishment. I hope they can adjust their practices and provide better training to employees.

We visited Mezzo over the weekend. We have been there before and have had good experiences in the past. I can't say that this time. Our server was very good. No issues there. It was the food! I am including a picture of the meat that was in my pasta. I can't believe they served this dish. It was just as horrible as it looks. I really like this place. The atmosphere is so cool, but I think they can do better. read more

This establishment is three restaurants in one, so make sure you look at the menus and decide which one you want to eat at before you go. My reservation was made for Mezzo but what I wanted was on the Emporio menu. I ended up eating at Mezzo, and it was actually really delicious. Not great for vegetarians, though, so I was limited in my options. The mushroom risotto turned out to be fantastic! Also, I was impressed by the "small bread". For $4 I thought it was going to be some small piece of bread, but it turned out to be a decently sized bread basket with 3 different kinds of bread, and two accompaniments (though one had meat in it). My server was attentive and made sure I didn't eat it though. Great value for the price and tasted amazing. read more

Technically, I think this would be a 5 star review, mostly because I think the price points, particularly on the bevs could be a bit more reasonable and the charcuterie was amazing, but needs some balance. However, I was in hog heave with the food. I felt like a Griswald and went full on greedy piggy... eating the pigs. The charcuterie was decedent, though it seemed a bit haphazard, busy, and lacked in some base items. I mean, throw a couple crackers on the thing. The octopus and pork belly were amazing. Rich, decedent, and reasonably priced. I was disappointed in the bone-in pork chop. There was no bone and it took some serious sawing to work through. I have the feeling it was a substitute cut. Still, a lovely dish that I'd be more than happy to order again. I was on a pork high, so no pic available. The desert was solid, a nice rich creamy sweet sense to counter the waves of salty pork goodies preceding. read more

I came here for my friends birthday dinner & I was thoroughly impressed! We started off with the fried Brussels sprouts with goat cheese & they were to die for. The Brussels sprouts were Cooked perfectly & paired very nicely with the goat cheese. We didn't leave any behind! I split the Bacon & Mushroom pizza with a friend & it was delicious! We got the pizza with no mushroom but added sausage & arugula. The toppings paired perfectly all together. They used sauce cans for the pizza tray and I thought that was very clever and a tasteful spin on a tray! I gave 4 stars only because the menu was pretty small, I would've liked to see more options! When it comes to Sienna Mercato, I can not choose a favorite level. To me they are all great. Mezzo is different because they take reservations (which is almost absolutely needed when something is going on in the CD), where as the first floor does not. Their menu tends to have an Italian flare that always suits my fancy in one way or another. From the small to large plates, I always tend to have a home run whether it's fish or a piece of beef. Though, salmon tends to be my go to since they tend to prepare it a different way every season. I have had two different tartares (salmon and beef) and they were fantastic. The desserts are always very scrumptious and they usually have a great variety to choose from. And the drinks O.M.G they are a must! Between the drinks and the wine list, I am always in heaven (it probably feels that way after a few drinks, but still)! The service is always attentive and very helpful. Never had a complaint in that department! read more
First time eating at Mezzo and I was happy with the food. We had the small bread basket for two of us (don't need the large unless you want to stuff yourself with bread.) I had the brussel sprouts, they were extremely good and the goat cheese pairing was phenomenal. The cheese had a slight smoky flavor that really complimented the apple glaze. I was a bit disappointed when I found out the sprouts were fried. My friend had the apple salad and it was good as well. For the entree we shared a chicken Parmesan. It was perfect for sharing as it came with two pieces of chicken. It was good, but nothing to brag about. Overall the food quality is good, you will pay a small premium for it, but worth the occasional visit. I did like that each check comes with a cookie, ends the meal with a sweet feeling about the place! read more

Place was awesome the food to me was not great. I ordered Caesar salad not good to me i had to ask for extra dressing it was dry. To me tasted weird. We also ordered chicken pasta it has horrible sorry but no flavor I won't be going there again. The waiter was awesome the place beautiful / also not too many options on the menu. I enjoy all of the levels of Sienna Mercado, but my love of grazing on cheese makes me a dedicated fan of Mezzo. On one particular visit with a friend, we ordered a charcuterie board and mushroom pizza to share (paired with a couple glasses of wine a piece). Everything was delicious and the charcuterie was varied and we'll paired with the cheeses. read more

This was the second time I have been to Mezzo and I have not had a bad experience. The service is impeccable, even down to the bussers everybody is polished and seemingly intelligent. I would encourage you to plan to come here early and check out the rooftop bar which is absolutely amazing. At dinner we started with the Chef's Selection which is the Chef's Selection of Charcuterie, Cheeses, and Preserves, as well as bread. This plate was phenomenal and each pairing was better than the last. Additionally we ordered the poached pear appetizer and it was extremely well done overall. With goat cheese and Brussels sprouts this unique dish really will have you thinking. Onto my meal - I stuck with what in most cases would be considered the boring choice "Spaghetti and Meatballs". However, this amazing dish has such a rich taste that it was anything but the boring. The meatballs were perfectly crafted, marinara with ricotta cheese, and basil to top it all off. Incredible experience yet again, I just wished I ordered a second dish to bring home. read more

Really lovely spot. This restaurant is located on the second floor on the building with awesome garage door windows. very cool vibe with chalk lettering on the walls. We sat at the bar and the bartender was lovely. We got a few drinks which he was more than happy to give suggestions and allow us to taste wines before we made a decision. We then ordered the grilled shrimp which were DELICIOUS. It was four shrimp two on each skewer with a delicious combo so things on tip including olives. We really loved it. Then we got the charcuterie tray which is highly recommended. They do farm to table style and it changes all the time so it'll be different every time you go. The man who brought it out explained everything on it, and gave suggested pairings. It was amazing and so was the info! And finally we finished the meal by splitting the scallops. And oh my gosh you should get these. They have an amazing crispness which I loved with bacon and shashito peppers. We will be back! It was all delicious and everyone was super friendly. read more

We had a great dinner tonight at Mezzo! We got the mushroom risotto as well as the 3 course meal including the Hanger Steak, Garganelli, and the Torta for dessert... we also had the Mushroom Risotto! All of the food was excellent and full of flavor! Would definitely go back! read more

This is the first time I have been to a restaurant like this. The menu is based around what is in season, the meat & cheese board is a sampler of food experiments by the chefs and what is available, and the staff waits on you like you are royalty. At least for your first visit, you must get the meat & cheese charcuterie board (or cheese only if you are vegetarian). This, more than anything else on the menu, showcases the creativity and originality that these chefs are putting in every single day to make this place the success that it is! My board had a pate made of beef knuckle and mustard seeds, cured ducked breast, a sheeps milk cheese with an espresso rind, a raging bleu cheese, and a 'loaded baked potato bread', beef-and-berry jam, among several others. The arugula salad with fingerling potatoes as a side dish was exceptional, as well as the port meatballs (although they are much more dense than the meatballs downstairs!) The pizza with pepperoncinis has an excellent crust, tangy cheese, and delicious peppers. However, the peppers are the hottest peppers I have ever had, and the menu gives you no clues that you will need to fill up your water glass several times to get through it! For my birthday, they also served us a complimentary glass of champagne which capped off the night beautifully. In my opinion, this isn't a place to grab drinks with friends or a quick bite on a weekend; that is more downstairs or at the biergarten upstairs. However, if you want a romantic, new food adventure, check this place out!! read more

For as many times as I've been to Sienna Mercato, I have never gone to Mezzo and I finally fixed that this weekend! It is by far my favorite of the three concepts featuring in-house cured meats that make fantastic charcuterie, delicious pizza, and a fair number of entree selections. We ordered the chef's choice charcuterie which was thoroughly explained and presented, as well as the capicola pizza. I appreciated that their wine list was extensive and went with a crisp sauv blanc for the hot evening. Our service was underwhelming and you definitely should make a reservation. We waited an hour and a half but were able to kill time at Il Tetto upstairs! Cannot wait to go back. read more

I love this rooftop bar. I especially love Mezzo, the second floor restaurant. Their wood fried pizzas are some of the best in the city. Everything from the second floor up here is a bit pricey, but worth it for the taste and atmosphere. Their drinks are great. My mother and I went to Mezzo after waiting a long time at another restaurant and having to leave because we had tickets to the Nutcracker that night. Mezzo gave us speedy and great service. Will definitely continue to come to both Mezzo and Sienna Mercato. read more
I'm really won over by this whole group. I love Mercato aka meatball heaven. I love the rooftop deck and I now love Mezzo. Their specialty is wood fired pizza's and wine. Definitely speaking my language. I was very excited about the pizza's we choose. I was most surprised to like the Sausage & Smoked Potato pizza the best. It was tomato, smoked mozzarella, basil, and of course potato. I loved the smokey flavor! I also liked the Picante Salami & Peppers. It was tomato, mozzarella, chili, pickled banana peppers. I love me some banana peppers on a pizza, and pickled ones, YUM. The Margherita, with tomato, mozzarella, basil was good. Of course it's the most basic of all of them, but still good. I love the aesthetic too. Definitely more chill up here than the other two spots. I'd be interested to check out their pasta dishes next. We did all three floors at Sienna Mercato. This one was my favorite. We had the chef's choice charcuterie and wine, and my friends also had a pizza. The charcuterie was just wonderful with many different flavor combos that would please any palate. My friends enjoyed their pizza very much and said they would get it again. Service was underwhelming (on all three floors, actually). Atmosphere on this floor seemed to be slightly more upscale than the other two, though none of them were "stuffy." read more

I went here after an art crawl. It was beautiful outside and they had the side doors open to the air. My waiter was very helpful and knowledgeable. They gave me a water decanter on my table, but when my glass was empty they still came to the table to fill my glass. The menu changes seasonally. I ordered ricotta gnudi appetizer. It was a rolled and stuffed cheese with apple butter and seasonal ingredients, it was good. I also ordered the Bacon and Egg pizza with maple syrup. It tasted like breakfast! I sat by the window and people watched in the open air. Very relaxing. This is the second floor of 3 floors of Sienna Mercato. read more

Inside decor was cool and the rooftop is pretty neat. The food was just ok. Wasn't too impressed with flavors and the prices seemed steeped for what you pay for. Tried charcuterie board but seemed skimpy for $24. Not horrible but not the best. Had the margherita pizza and it overall lacked in flavor. I think mainly because of the sauce. read more
This was my first time eating at Mezzo or even making it to the second floor of this three story establishment. I have been to Emporio (first floor) and Il Tetto (roof top) multiple times and really enjoy the atmosphere. When you first walk up to the second floor you will notice a wine wall with so much wine!! From the wooden floor, to the wooden dining tables/chairs and the rustic brick walls I felt like I walked into a Tuscan kitchen. For my meal I ordered the Pork Risotto and I do not regret this decision one bit! I really like that you can order a half portion. I always end up taking left overs home and tonight I am proud to say I finished an entire meal. I would absolutely get this again! One thing that bugged my friends and I was when we paid our bill the waitress came to pick her tip up while we were still sitting there talking. There was only one other table in there with us so it's not like we needed to hurry and rush out. Waiters/waitresses should never do that! read more

Please do not eat here because it took me three nights to finally get a table! First off, you can make a meal on the delicious bread basket assortment. Get the slightly larger one. The butters are lightly flavored. The charcuterie boards are out-of-this-world amazing. The pizza - hope you're sitting down- will have NO pepperoni! That is for amateurs. The toppings are things like bacon, arugula, & chicken sausage! Waitstaff was very attentive and pleasant. Again, please don't go here, I love it more! read more
I recently visited Mezzo for the first time and had an excellent experience. I made a reservation online about a week prior to the Wednesday dinner. I browsed the menu online in anticipation of the meal. The friendly hostess seated our party of five at a comfortable six-top right by the window overlooking lively Penn Ave. Our courteous server guided us through the menu that offers a pleasing variety of food and drinks - including more options than are listed online. The highlights of my meal include the charcuterie board, the cheese board, and the lamb entree. The wine pairing was spot on. The portions were elegant and satisfying. Everyone in my party enjoyed their meal. Our server was attentive and relaxed - keeping pace with our leisurely group. I highly recommend Mezzo for the delicious food, service, decor, and location. It's my new downtown go-to Italian restaurant. read more

What an amazing experience at Mezzo tonight!!! Had the Filet and it did not disappoint. I wanted extra sauce and they drought me a little soup bowl of a Au Jus... omg!! I'm in heaven!! I got the Filet medium and it was perfect!! I did not take picture but did not know it was going to be one of the best I have experienced! Thanks Mezzo!! read more
