We went on a Saturday evening without a reservation. When we told the host, she stepped away to "check" with someone, which made it seem like they were fully booked. That wasn't the case at all, there were only a few tables occupied, and even by the time we left, the floor was still mostly empty. The whole interaction made us feel like we were an inconvenience for coming without a reservation. The food was mixed. The fried calamari was very chewy and tasted like something straight out of a Sysco box. On the other hand, the margherita pizza was actually quite good. Disappointing visit -was exceedingly and intolerably hot, no AC, and despite empty tables they did not accommodate us and the bat seating was cramped and untidy. Came for brunch with some friends who were getting a special event. They were pretty busy but we had made reservations ahead so they got us to our table quickly. After waiting for a while we had to flag the hostess down to ask where our waitress was because she brought water then nothing for 15 minutes. After ordering, the food and drinks came out fairly quickly. However, my order was wrong. I ordered the Frittata and they brought out the strawberry French toast instead. Rather than see them waste food I said it was fine and I would eat it instead. The French toast was ok, way too heavy on the strawberry jam. Overall an ok experience but the staff might have been overwhelmed. Our server never even brought us another bottle of water after we finished ours. read more

My boyfriend and I went to Mezzo for Valentine's Day and it was perfect! We were worried that we would be packed in like sardines like most restaurants for Valentine's Day - but that wasn't the case! It was busy but not chaotic. I ordered an espresso martini with cream and it was super tasty! They did mention that they were out of almost all of the wine on their wine list, which would have been a bummer if that was what I was looking forward to drinking. For an appetizer we got the peach and tomato burrata and it was phenomenal! If it was acceptable to drink the oil it was in - I probably would have it was garlicky and perfect with the sweetness of the peach! The pitas it came with were also delicious - I wish we got more than 2 though. For our main meal, I got gnocchi with shrimp and vodka sauce. The amount of food was unreal and I'll probably be eating it for days! It was super tasty even though gnocchi isn't normally my first choice. My boyfriend got a porkchop with polenta and said it was amazing and juicy. The menu was shorter and different than the usual, but they had great options! More disappointing than the delay was the complete lack of service; our waiter essentially ignored us, walking by repeatedly without a word of apology or concern. The food however was not great at all. I went with a large party of about 15 and majority of the folks really did not like their food, lacked flavor and seasoning. The almond slivers were stale. It was the most underwhelming board I have ever been served. I think it's made off site and delivered wrapped or was made earlier in day, wrapped and put in fridge. The calamari was so under seasoned as to be barely edible. The gemmili pasta was mid (but one of the better things). The focaccia wasn't very good either an cut in thin toast slices. Arancini was ok (also one of better things). Margharita pizza was also just ok. All in all a horribly disappointing visit and I would not recommend. The waiter was nice but not attentive at all. He dropped off food and didn't come back until it was time to take the check. He also listed us as a party of 6 which added the automatic 20% gratuity (we were a party of five) which I suspect was due to him knowing what poor service. Three-story business with different restaurants on each floor. Miso is on the second floor is Italian themed restaurant. Also a rooftop bar if you're interested. Let's start with the bread. They make their bread there daily and it is fantastic. Served with homemade honey butter and infused oil. If you get past the bread, I suggest the short rib Ragu and pasta. Fantastic others at our table had the pizza which was a little bit thick and a little bit heavy for my taste, but the sauce was good and it had a good flavor they have an impressive wine list and selection of draft beers as well. The only reason I am giving this restaurant a 2 star review is because their burrata appetizer was delicious. Other than this, I was in town with a group of girls for my friends bachelorette weekend, we chose to celebrate with a nice dinner at Mezzo. We were seated on time and greeted. We received drinks timely. After placing our order, our food took a very long time to come out and the restaurant was very hot causing many of the girls to take breaks in the bathroom because it was cooler. There were a group of 12 of us and we only received a water refill one time. After receiving our food, the waitress did not check on us once. Many of my friends told me that their food was almost tasteless. My seafood linguine dish was very bland, INSANELY spicy (which the menu reflected that there were red pepper flakes in the dish but this was an inedible amount of spice for a pasta), and the clams tasted like they were spoiled (sour). I am a HUGE foodie and love seafood and spice, but I could not even eat a bite without chugging water...which we did not have. The waitress came back to collect payments and saw that I had a full dish of food left and did not even ask if I enjoyed my food. I am a server and understand how important it is to check in with your guest and make sure it is everything they could want and more. She took my dish and left the table without returning or saying a word. I am not one to complain but was hoping the waitress would acknowledge my lack of consumption so that she could then tell the kitchen about my experience for future guests. Sadly, I will not be returning to this restaurant, a previous review showed mold on their cake and this experience turned me off to the establishment. Just what I wanted on a hot summer night in th' Burgh. We were there mainly for the pizza... Goat Cheese, Bacon & honey pizza. More on that in a second... The atmosphere is a really chic urban style, with rustic Pittsburgh flair. The brick walls are really nice, with ample lighting & good seating options from intimate to large group sizes. Definitely a good date night eatery. The front windows can be lifted & lowered, so that definitely adds to the style points. Back to the pizza- New York style medium sized (13-14") thin crust done in an authentic brick oven, with nice char, good chew, and balanced toppings & herbal seasonings. Enough for 2, but good with an appetizer if you're hungry. For gosh sake, let it cool before eating or you'll burn your mouth. The bacon pieces were thick cut from a slab, and seemed a little under-toned on smokiness, but it was still really flavorful- and I know now why my compatriots dragged me there. We had a great night here! I've enjoyed Il Tetto rooftop bar for years & so many times passed right by Mezzo. It's on the 2nd floor of Sienna Mercato & is kind of a hidden gem. Don't make the same mistake I did & get your booty in there. The atmosphere is cute & cozy. Their woodfired pizza is delicious. The sauce on the Margherita was perfect. I've also had their pasta & entrees on my last visit & everything I've tried from here has been a pleasant surprise! Yum. (So far the only thing I've tried here that I didn't love was one of the desserts.) They partner with area farms to get their ingredients and have a map of who they work with on the back of the menu - pretty cool! They have plenty of seating for couples all the way up to larger groups. Their team is great to work with and service has always been good The cocktail menu is good and switches up seasonally too. I keep wanting it to be like Sienna in the Square (RIP), but it isn't. Service was ok. I was there with my mom. We let our server know that we were going to see a show. They were also having a party in the space, so I could tell he was a little stretched thin, but we still had a hard time finding someone when we wanted to order. Had the burrata - it was interesting. The entire dish, including roasted grapes were cold. I expected something warm or that it would come with bread, but that was an extra $6 if you wanted it. For the main meal we split the prosciutto and pear pizza and the Bolognese pasta. The pizza was cooked well and had a nice crust - it was good, but needed something more acidic. The pasta was also decent but nothing spectacular. Overall it is fine. It's a place I won't rush back to, but it also wasn't bad. We tried Sienna Mercato the Mezzo above Emporio which has been disappointing the past few times we went. The food truck was here years ago and the balls were cold inside. I live a block away! So let's try upstairs. Our server, Tyler, was great. I ordered the Short Rib Pasta which is their best-selling item and Tyler said it was amazing. Oh, good! Tyler came back and said the sauce wasn't going to be "ready" for another hour, so could they offer something else? My friend even said they should at least take half off my order or comp a drink. I decided on the horseradish crusted salmon with risotto and sauteed spinach. Food was delicious. BUT my greens were just lukewarm, the rice was crunchy (undercooked) and very, very salty. The salmon was hot and fantastic. Two of us got sangria for drinks. Usually, it's a full wine glass with some fruit or in a tall glass. This was not even half of a medium wine glass. For $15 you'd expect a little more. The other four of us had good food but the Casio e Pepe could have had a little more parmesan and pepper, too. Just had the most phenomenal culinary experience at Mezzo. Chef Jared, who has worked hard to revamp the menu and dining experience, has created a restaurant with a true farm to fork feel. I enjoyed the pork belly appetizer, sampled the beef carpaccio, and got the dry aged steak as a main. The steak was cooked to perfection, and thank goodness the potatoes helped me soak up all the goodness on the plate! Definitely try the homemade bread and desserts! The staff was incredibly knowledgeable and welcoming (I HIGHLY recommend the smoked old fashioned's!) Overall a 10/10 experience and I can't wait to go back and sample the pizzas! read more

Mezzo eared this poor review. On Valentine's day I went to dinner. They surprised us with a 120 per person course. While expensive we wanted to try. The service was horrendous. We spent 2 hours before the main course. We were starving being served after 9:00pm. Between courses no one checked on our drinks. The steak had a large gray band indicating being significantly over seared. This is not representative of the high quality price tag. Overall, the price to quality ratio leaves mezzo far below its peer restaurants. Try somewhere else for a nice night out. read more

We get to the restaurant, sit down, and see a pre fixe menu on the table with no vegetarian options. Our server was very sweet and apologized. She said the table before us also had to leave because they were vegetarians and that the restaurant didn't put the new menu on their website. Was able to get reservations for a group of nine. Dinner was great. The waiter brought out a complimentary mini pound cake. The pound cake was covered in mold (see picture for reference). We calmly asked the waiter if he could please take it back to the kitchen. He returned minutes later with 2 "new" mini pound cakes. We did not feel comfortable eating the "new" pound cake because of the previous one being covered in mold. We then asked to speak to the manager. A woman who was stepping in as a manger took our bill and left. The original waiter returned with our same bill and a cheap bottle of Prosecco to make up for it. Located on the second floor above Emporio the meatball joint, it could be considered a step up in more ways than one. We were here for restaurant week, and I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the restaurant week menu features the same dishes as the regular menu. Same size, just a few less options. For RW you get an appetizer, main and dessert for a set price. I think it was $35pp. The popular choices were Lobster pappardelle pasta for a starter and either the bone-out pork chop or shrimp fra Diablo for the main. I went with the pasta for both, which was only a minor mistake only because I couldn't finish it all. Both were generous servings. Honestly I could have stopped after the appetizer and left full, especially because we added the charcuterie board before ordering. The Lobster pasta was fantastic. I couldn't believe how much Lobster was in there! The pasta was phenomenal. Onto the main, the pasta was like a shell shape in a red sauce and the shrimp was plentiful. Dessert was a scoop of vanilla ice cream with peaches in a crepe. Very nice. I would definitely recommend this place and will return! read more
