12 tacos, queso dip and salsa rojo
Amanda G.

The online ordering process was a bit confusing but the tacos were good and the flour tortillas for the tacos were AMAZING! You could tell they were fresh! We got the carne asada which was okay- which there was more seasoning on the meat but they were cooked great and not dry or chewy! The Al pastor was great and the green salsa on it was sooooo good! The carnitas had a great sauce on them too and barbacoa taco had a mango salsa! It was nice they all had different toppings and worth each bite! The queso dip was really good and was NOT spicy and had good flavor. We also got the salsa rojo and it was fresh and refreshing and they didn't skimp out on the tortilla chips either! Will order again for sure!!

Best meal I've had in a while! I enjoyed the service, we were greeted, seated, and served promptly. The decor was eclectic and culturally aligned for lack of better words. I had the ceviche (not picture), dos combinaciones (included chile relleno, chicken tinga tostado, carne enchilada), and a glass of cranberry juice. All of it was delicious! It was flavorful and filling.

This place was so yummy!! Crazy good margaritas and some of the best nachos I've ever had. I would return for sure. Beautiful decor too.

Chili Relleno, Chicken Tinga Tostata, and Carne Asada Enchilada Combination

Westworld Magazine posted an article in 2016 and listed this restaurant on the top 10 restaurants on East Colfax. So many of those restaurants listed in the same article have closed over the years. Its a testament to Mezcal they are still around and still making good food. Ambience. Good There was plenty of seating inside and on their patio when we arrived. Decided to sit on the patio and made for great East Colfax people watching. Smoking isn't allowed on the patio but smoke does blow over from the neighboring establishment. If you don't want to smell smoke, you should eat inside. Food: Excellent Very manageable menu and has something for everyone. We ordered th #2 combo which included a Chili Relleno, Chicken Tostada and Beef Enchilada. You have your choice of beans (refried or black) on the tostada and the type of sauce (red or green chili) on the chili relleno. We also ordered the taco platter which comes with choice of 3 tacos (Street Taco style). You can't go wrong with any of the choices but the Carne Asada was our favorite. Drinks: Excellent The Mescal Margarita was excellent if you enjoy mescal. Also ordered the house margarita. They use fresh ingredients the amount is perfect for the $12 price. Friendly staff and great food makes this my go-to mexican restaurant in the future.

I haven't been here in years and stopped in last night and so glad I did! Still the same cute place with excellent food! I ordered the street taco platter that comes with 3 tacos, beans and rice. We also had the shisito peppers (so good, but some of the definitely have a spicy kick!!) The chicken tinga are my go to, and never disappoint. Also tried the fish tacos! The coconut pineapple marg is the best !! Definitely recommend. Their Taco Tuesday and happy hour deals are awesome, but even their normal menu is priced fair!

Friday night, 8pm. Not busy, soccer game on. Servers are very friendly albeit absent. Our drinks were empty twice and we had to wait for the bill and a box for quite a while. The food is quite delicious, the red sauce has a little bit of spice (I prefer mine hot, but my company likes it mild -- was a good balance). The carne asada was good and flavorful. The salsa is better than average and the chips are thin, hot and crispy. Definitely very authentic looking and homey, the decor is cute and the location is good for downtown. Overall a good experience even if the service was a little bit lacking.

Excellent service, comfortable seating, fun decor and good vibe.

We were a party of 7. Everyone liked their food. All good dishes, taco plates, the salad was plenty fresh and delicious. Folks liked the Korean pork belly taco! I had a chicken linga, delivered cooks. Food reasonable. Service excellent! Would recommend. Great vibe. Parking on side street and outdoor seating available. Authentic home cooked style. FYI. If you find a tourquoise necklace please contact me.

Strong drinks and yummy street tacos. Got the Colfax Paloma (tequila vs grapefruit forward flavor). Nice atmosphere, pretty mural. Great service.

Our lunch bunch of four added one member today. Our adult daughter, who lives outside of the US, loves Mexican food. We heard that Mezcal was just that. East Colfax is unfamiliar territory to us, but we found street parking midday to be plentiful. Not a single other soul was there when we entered. We were shown to a nice, bright table by the big windows. The tables were covered with brightly colored Mexican print table clothes. This added to the authentic atmosphere. The first thing we noticed on the menu were the Molcajetes. A terrific description by our serves, Matt, had us convinced that we should have this dish. Our friends decided on the big nachos platter. Our daughter had pork belly tacos, Barbados, and Asada tacos. Before all these main courses arrived, we shared a flight of salsas with chips. All of the salsas are authentic and made in house. Our experience with Molcajetes come from one restaurant in Durango, which was excellent. But, when this dish arrived to the table radiating the heat from the vessel to those nearby, I could see the vast amounts of meat in the bowl. The meats were chicken, shrimp, chorizo sausage, grilled poblanos peppers, and grilled cheese. This steaming medley was served with flour tortillas, or corn, rice and beans. The tomatoey sauce was flavorful, not spicy. The big nacho platter was shared by two as a main course. It looked nicely covered with cheese, guacamole, and sour cream. Our daughter said the pork belly taco was the best ever. She also relished the other two varieties. There is no need to keep hunting for authentic Mexican food when you have Mezcal!

I made mine 60 days in advance and it was absolutely worth it. We ordered the guacamole, burrita de frijoles puercos, scallops, hamachi tostada, tuna ceviche, chilaquiles de borrego, enmolada de pato, and pancita pibil, and genuinely everything was a 10/10. The scallops and ceviche completely stole the show. The scallops were perfectly cooked and melted in your mouth, and the serrano ponzu with the tomato butter added this incredible balance of brightness and richness. The ceviche was one of those dishes where every bite makes you stop for a second to reflect. They used super fresh tuna with the charred avocado and coconut broth giving it so much depth while still feeling really light and refreshing. The hamachi tostada was another standout with the habanero mayo and orange bringing the perfect amount of citrus and heat, and the pancita pibil was unbelievably flavorful. The black bean purée underneath honestly deserves its own mention because it tied the entire dish together being so smooth and rich against the acidity of the pickled onions. Service was also flawless from start to finish. Attentive without hovering, great pacing between dishes, and everyone made the experience feel warm and welcoming despite every table being filled. This place fully lives up to the hype and is absolutely worth planning ahead for.

Looking at taco places, I went with something close by to our location and found this hidden gem. Nestled away on a small street corner of Clay Street and 32nd Ave. parking can be scarce, but I'm sure with the right time and a little bit of walking you will find and manage your way here. Outside the restaurant, they have a small seating area which now is winter too cold to enjoy, but I'm sure in the spring and summer and fall time is super enjoyable. The inside, though a little bit tiny and no cozier than going to your mom's house and expecting a family Filled living room/Kitchen. We went down and greeted by three smiling faces. We already looked at the photos online and knew we want tacos so opted with the chicken tacos and Carne Asada taco plates. The tacos place option came with 5 tacos with up to 2 choices of meats the ratio would be 2:3 .. freshly mashed guacamole made in front of you or freshly sliced avocado.. In the pictures I listed you will find each chicken and Carne Asada options. Both slow pictures missing two tacos because we devoured them as soon as we got into the truck. Their street tacos are heavenly! Chicken option was all chicken breast super juicy grilled to perfection five tacos on a plate another two tacos missing because my husband and I devoured it. This plate came we asked it with the guacamole option instead of fresh avocado. The carne asada was just FULL of flavor and the fresh avocado slices with green tomatillo salsa SLAPPED.. the tortillas are super soft and tears from how fresh the flour tortillas were!! Definitely a place to sit and eat there to enjoy the hot food. I'm originally from SoCal and a heavily populated Latinos with amazing tacos and food.. Taqueria La Familia passed the bar high!! We walked in to find it pretty well occupied around noon, but still with some empty tables. We were seated right away. The decor was lovely. It was primarily natural, earthy tones, with succulents, and a big pop of color with bright murals above the bar, creating a warm glow. I was vaguely familiar with Chef Richard Sandoval due to his brief appearance on Top Chef, but didn't know too much about his cuisine. The brunch has a really fun and original idea in that you can order bottomless small plates for $42 per person or bottomless food and drinks for $59 in person, with a two-hour limit. I would have loved to try that, but we had a lot of plans that day so opted for the à la carte menu. I chose a mimosa and my friend chose a michelada. for our drinks We shared the ceviche. I ordered the chicken tinga enchiladas, while my friend ordered the fish tacos. We shared all of the food. The ceviche was excellent, flavorful and fresh. I enjoyed the enchiladas. The portion was generous. I wasn't too fond of the tacos. There was nothing wrong with them, aside from the fact that I don't like breaded fish, but they just didn't have a ton of flavor. I will say service started strong, but then fell off a bit. Our server and food runner were friendly, but it was hard to get extra utensils when we needed them.
