During the late summer heatwave of 2020, with temperatures incredibly exceeding 115 degrees... our A/C went quietly in its sleep overnight. It was survived by five angry, sweaty residents of this house... in lieu of flowers, we shook our fists in the air, and tried to run as many fans as possible. After about ten minutes of that futility, I bit the bullet and jumped on good ol' trusty Yelp to look for an HVAC place. Over the years, Yelp has upped its game of soliciting multiple companies for a quote. One of the companies that responded quickly was Meza's HVAC. We connected by telephone, and despite the crazy weather, they offered to come at 7:30 AM the next morning. The technicians showed up on time, didn't dilly dally around, and got right to work. After quickly diagnosing the problem (a small leak somewhere in the line and no refrigerant) I puckered up to wait for an astronomical price quote. Surprisingly, the price for 6 lbs. of refrigerant (an R-22 Freon alternative, which was actually cheaper than the now-illegal Freon) and a line sealant was very reasonable... plus, no one tried to sell me a new AC unit despite the fact ours is so old, you can get in it and kick your feet really loud yelling YABBA DABBA DOO! to get it started. I hope to the gods I never need to call these guys again... but if (OK, when) we experience any kind of trouble again with our AC system, I won't hesitate to contact this company again. read more

Steve & crew replace my very old furnace and all of the ductwork 4 years ago. They also gave me AC. I wanted to wait & test it for a while before I wrote a review. I have had no problems whatsoever and would recommend them absolutely! They were able to do a fantastic job of specifying the right equipment and installing it at a reasonable price. Others wanted to give me a unit that was so big it would have to be installed in the attic instead of my closet, and would use more power. After living with a wall heater and several a/c window units for years, I started getting quotes for a mini-split ductless air unit which I though would be the most cost effective option. The quotes seemed ridiculously high for only two rooms even with all the mansplaining that was done. I called Steve and Meza's HVAC and ended up settling on a full central a/c and heating system. He went the through system options, unit brands, etc. with me so I felt comfortable, well-informed and not talked down to. Steve's team arrived on time, were courteous, and explained what they were doing throughout the day. Steve came by throughout the project to check on progress and was always available by phone if I had questions. Some parts of the process were loud. I'm working remotely and my daughter is doing school online, and they always checked in and worked around Zoom meetings and class presentations which was so appreciated. They swept and vacuumed their work debris every day. As is usual in my old, needs major TLC house, nothing ever goes quite as planned. I have an old electrical panel which I knew in advance may be an issue. They ended up needing a component for the electrical that they couldn't just get at the Home Depot down the street. I was expecting it was going to take a while but I received a call by the next afternoon so the job could be finished. I am a tenant in a unit he installed the ac for my landlord 3 yrs ago. We noticed some water so called the landlord and she sent Mezas hvac. **DONT RECOMMEND THEM AT ALL** The first visit he inspected the unit and told my landlord the pan needed to be replaced (without even opening it) and the drain line was broken. That night the air conditioner quit working so we called a friend hvac guy too and he said what he did in his inspection made the pan leak into the circuit board and transformer blowing them out. Second visit, he confirmed what our friend said that water leaked on the circuit board Landlord then sent ANOTHER GUY, this guy said the same thing as our friend and ended up doing the work and found he also broke to coil when cutting the drain pipe I see other posts about water leak issues which is what we had but also that his workmanship is sub standard AND accused me that it was my fault to my landlord. This guy is no good, his price is probably cheap but YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR look what others are saying. Go elsewhere!!! read more

I unfortunately have to update my review. After they fixed my initial problem with our AC unit, I attempted to install a Nest Thermostat and ran into problems. I scheduled a tech to come Monday to try to install it. They came and said they needed a second tech to come to fix the problem and it couldn't be scheduled until Thursday. He said Wednesday was a possibility. I asked if credit could be applied towards the second job and that said no since I removed the thermostat therefore nullifying their work. I reluctantly agreed given the stress my staff was in with a heat wave, covered in multiple layers of PPE, and no AC. I texted with my contacted to confirm a tile for Thursday with no response. Thursday came and went and nobody showed up. Luckily I called another HVAC company and they came out Wednesday and fixed the problem. I had a hunch these guys would drop the ball and I was glad I was right. read more

Well, it's now June 1st, 2017 and the incompetent idiots from Meza HVAC came back out yesterday...yes...over 365 days later since they first came to install a new unit...and I think this was like the 17th or 18th time now they have had to come out in the past year. They came out to put in another new unit since the very first one they put in would either not cool the place or it would have to be turned up on a much higher speed which then caused it to leak water all over the place leaving the air filter rusty and then circulating sour water odors all around our condo. Unfortunately, our landlord has final say on selecting vendors for these major repairs and she has decided to stick with these Steve Meza and Meza HVAC guys since they were the cheapest...even if they can't seem to get it right after coming multiple times and trying to blame us, blame our Ecobee thermostat unit...anything to deflect fault. They tried to come a week ago and wanted to install the replacement unit WITH OUT THE AC FILTER TRAY again because they were too stupid to make sure it was in stock and available before they picked it up on the way out here. If I had allowed this, we would have been left with the same problem of having the AC filters shredded to pieces and cutting up our fingers each time we take it out and replaced it with a new one. Well, they came yesterday UNANNOUNCED at 830AM for a supposedly scheduled 10AM appointment, claiming they confirmed with my fiance last week. Well, they did not confirm and no one had even called us or texted us to say they were coming AT ALL. AND what's worse, even if they had confirmed the 10AM appointment, they thought it would be fine to just show up and bang on the door 1.5 hours earlier in the morning until we came to the door. Not wanting to cause a scene, we reluctantly allowed them in and they installed a new 2 ton unit (of course when I asked 1 of the 2 Meza HVAC techs what size/how many ton unit this new one was, he had no idea and had to ask the 2nd tech!!!@@@). Well 24 hours later, and in very cool outdoor temperatures here in West LA, our "newly installed AC unit" has been running nonstop for over 12 hours and cannot bring it down from 69 degrees to 65 degrees (a test we were running to ensure it can cool our condo no matter how low the set temperature is) and despite it running nonstop for over 12 hours and set to 65 (and it's not like 100 degrees outside temperature right now) it could only drop from 69-68/67 degrees after all this time. So we are yet again faced with having to deal with Steve Meza/Meza HVAC again next week when they try yet again for the 20th time in a year to remedy this seemingly straight forward issue...replace the AC with a new unit that cools and heats without leaking or causing any other noise/damage. But yes, hire these guys if you want to deal with incompetent idiots with attitude and an owner that has no respect for his customers and no regard for your time at all...BONUS: maybe he will even verbally threaten you in your own home and accuse you for his own shortcomings. read more

Steve was awesome! We are in a newly rented house with a central AC system that hadn't been used in about 10 years. The system was working great for a couple of weeks... Until, of course the hottest weekend projected in Los Angeles. Our AC went out at about 3 PM on Thursday, and I scrambled to contact various local companies to no avail. Every place I called I either got no answer, could not leave a voicemail, was a week out on scheduling, and/or I got the feeling that they just wanted to sell my landlords (who are personal friends of mine) a brand new system considering many asked how old the system was. Steve messaged me back on Yelp rather promptly, and then called me directly. I like the way he does business. He was willing to come out that same evening despite admitting that he was barely having lunch at about 5:45 PM and about an hour away from me. We decided to schedule a visit for the following day. My AC stopped working Sunday AM. We called our AC guy but he was not available till Wednesday. We called Meza's HVAC Monday AM and they were available with such sort notice. They came saw the problem and repaired it. Overall he was in and out in 30 mins max. Price was also reasonable since a part needed replacement. My contractor uses them so that is how we knew about them. Overall i would recommend them and use them again if needed, hopefully we wont need an AC guy for a while. read more

I live in a condo built in the early 70's. The AC/Heating system had never been updated. I called in 2 other companies first and they both said that the system was so old, they could not get the parts any more. I spoke to the manager of the condo complex and she recommended Steve Meza's company. He had already put some units in the building so he knew what he was up against. It was already the beginning of July at this point, but Steve and his guys got to me in two weeks. There were problems with installation, but Steve came over and personally supervised his guys: Daniel and Ramon who were the installers. Daniel and Ramon did a wonderful job and they seriously could not have been nicer. Daniel is a real "old school" craftsman and was extremely meticulous about measurements. And when they cleaned up, everything was spic and span. My system is in and working great. I can't thank Steve Meza enough. I paid a VERY fair price for my brand new system. I have a 1948 house with a floor furnace. We were updating the kitchen and bath for my daughter after my mom passed away. Just before move in day we smelled gas. The gas company came out and said it needed servicing when he was able to relight it The contractor's heater guy said they don't make parts for this unit and I would need a wall unit. After checking Yelp for some floor heater companies, I was happy these guys came out first thing the next morning, in the rain. After it was lit, the furnace looked good. We figured the Gas Company didn't let all the settled dust burn off. It was great. Heater works and burns properly and we are happy. The service fee was nothing compared to putting in wall units and fixing the floor. The contractor was surprised when I told him that MY heater guy fixed it in 1 day while his had 3 weeks to get me an estimate. Can't thank them enough. read more

My AC decided to develop issues during the hottest and most humid week of August. I frantically called several AC repair companies in the area and Steve was one of the first to respond with the earliest availability the following day. He also quoted me one of the most reasonable prices for a diagnostic. Steve troubleshooted and repaired the problem. We are a cool and happy household once again! Steve did have to come by on two different days because the recommendations he made on the first day did not resolve the issue. It would have been ideal if the true problem was identified on that first visit because it led to an additional day and night spent in a hot and humid home. Well, our landlord picked these guys to try to do the installation of our HVAC. One year later, it still leaks, and recently, a different HVAC servicer asked why Meza hadn't installed the filter cage. They failed in about six or seven different areas in the installation. To their credit, they came back about 5 times to try to fix the leak, and then they just finally gave up. As I mentioned, a year later, It still leaks water all over our floor. You pretty much get what you pay for. I guess they quote people the cheapest prices. The new HVAC servicer couldn't even tell the brand of HVAC they put in. Poor follow up on install problems ac is leaking water inside and damaging our wall and they refuse to show up and fix the problem also ac unit in attic is installed at a slant that drains into to house very poor install cool air flows to the near rooms but very little gets to the main room . He found out what was wrong (I had not connected some wires correctly). He re-arranged them and climbed into the attic and connected and disconnected.
