Upon our invitation, Joseph, the tech rep for Air Care Saver, visited our house and did an assessment of our existing system to provide us with options for review. His professional and pleasant manner along with a low-key, no pressure approach was much appreciated and made our decision making process easy. Well detailed estimates made it straightforward to analyze various options and pick the solution right for our needs. First was the removal of our old 1970's existing ductwork in the attic and installation of a new R-6 rated flex ducting system complete with new supply air vents and return intake and balancing dampers. The new ducting was securely hung and strapped in place in the attic. Our 27 year old Carrier condenser was removed and replaced with a high efficiency AC Pro 4 ton, two-stage variable speed 21 SEER2 unit as was the furnace, replaced with an AC Pro A-series, two stage variable speed unit. The installation crew, Luis, Carlos and Manny were truly top notch, working in a courteous and professional manner to complete the installation, testing and startup in quick order. It was apparent from the start that these guys were well qualified installers who worked together as a cohesive team to get the job done with minimal downtime. Update on my review. The installation was done on Labor Day May 26 and worked perfectly. Then suddenly last weekend it wasn't cooling. Called on Monday June 2 and Joseph came by today. This company is a lifesaver! They live up to their name! During the intense heat wave we had, they came to my aunt's rescue. It began with the first call to them and their dispatch/customer service rep was awesome. She got us scheduled and due to the extreme heat they were pretty much booked for several days but reassured me that if someone should cancel or reschedule she would let us know. The urgency we had was because my aunt has medical conditions which makes her intolerable to the heat and she was preparing for surgery in less than 5 days. Well the customer rep called me back within 3 hours to let me know they would be able to see us the next day. We received constant communication letting us know who our technician was with pic which helped a lot because you never know who's coming to your door. The technician was very thorough and able to assist and give us options for our next steps to repair the air conditioning. We decided to replace the whole system which a technician wasn't able to come out until the following week for installation... guess what they did... the same technician came back a portable AC unit for my auntie on loan until it was fully installed. This is the type of company I wish I would come across everywhere else! Air CareSaver made the process of replacing our entire 36-year-old HVAC system (furnace, compressor, and even the attic ducting) with modern equipment as easy and trouble-free as possible. From the initial contact with Ralph, it was clear that he was there to help. His presentation of the available options was excellent, and he took the time to answer all of my questions thoroughly. Even before I approved the estimate, I had more questions regarding the placement of certain items, and Ralph was kind enough to go back to my house so we could talk it over (again - this was before I even agreed to hire them to do the job!). Of all the other quotes I received, the Air CareSaver pre-purchase experience was the best. Ralph showed me a lot of photos of their previous installations; Ralph had on-paper information about the different kinds of equipment available; and best of all, Ralph gave me an actual written estimate (accessible online so I could review the details at any time) with the actual "out-the-door" price (no sneaky added fees or other shady stuff) and that quoted estimate was good for 90 days. I actually took over a month to decide, and it was the initial experience with them that ultimately made my decision; I did have lower prices from other quotes, but I didn't feel as confident as I did with Air CareSaver when making my decision as to who I'd hire for the job. Once I approved the estimate, Ralph's team was scheduled to do the installation within a few days. The crew that came to the house (Luis and Genaro) arrived in the morning on time and were ready to do the job. Before starting anything, Luis had a quick meeting with us and explained exactly what they were there to do, the process and order in which they would do things, and any fine details that we needed to know. They laid out drop cloths inside the house leading to the attic access, and they never went anywhere they didn't need to be. These two guys worked like a finely tuned machine - always doing something, never stopping to try to figure something out... it was very clear that not only did they know what they were doing, but they had a system that was highly efficient and well organized. Even when I had questions during the installation, Luis was very friendly and took the time to answer me clearly and with the information I needed. The entire installation only took 1.5 days, but the amount of work they accomplished in such little time was impressive, to say the least. Not only did they replace the old furnace and compressor, but they also had to run an entirely new set of coolant lines; this involved running the new, larger lines from the garage, through the attic, and out to the backyard. Everything except the ducting replacement was done in one day - with just the attic duct replacement left for the second day. The whole time, the crew worked very smoothly and very cleanly - we noticed that they would even take the time to keep their area clean while working (as opposed to making a mess everywhere and cleaning it up later). I cannot express how professional and courteous Luis, Genaro, and Joseph (who brought some extra parts for the installation) all were the entire time they were at our house. So, after a day and a half, our house was upgraded to an entirely new HVAC system. I do not normally write Yelp reviews, but I was extremely impressed with the entire experience my family and I had with Air CareSaver. I am so glad that I chose them as my installer, and I will definitely recommend them to anyone who needs HVAC installation and/or service. Their 5-stars are well deserved! After looking inside we went outside to the main unit and he found that the unit needed cleaning and the capacitor was bad. My old A/C system acted up by tripping its electrical switch at the main panel. Called the company and a technician was promptly scheduled to come out to diagnose. The technician was timely and courteous - I was eventually told it was a bad capacitor and was also recommended for a hard start kit, with usual upselling for a full system replacement. Totaling $863 for parts probably worthy only $100. The weather was getting hot, and choices are few to keep my family cool, so we proceeded with the proposed repair. A week or so later, the A/C is not working again (and we run A/C only couple hours a day when it was hot in the afternoon). Called the company asking for a possible partial refund, as the fix apparently wasn't the right solution ($863 for running A/C only couple days part-time also is excruciatingly expensive). Since by now I am very scared of high ticket price for repairs (10 repairs at this price will likely cost me a system!), we are also well in the process of finding a contractor to replace the system anyway, so there was no point to ask to re-repair/visit. The office lady I spoke with said "no refund", and the reason she given is that I did sign the agreement for the repair for the price quoted, and that the technician did recommend me to replace the A/C. I tried my best to be objective describing the circumstances, but duh?! __________________________________________________ A quick response to the business comment: There were indeed a lot of activities involved in the diagnose/repair process, to be fair. The first repair trip wasn't effective (same switch tripping happened merely couple hours after the initial repair in the same day), so the technician had to come back to re-troubleshoot what the issue is (hence the texting as mentioned). The technician is a good guy, and he did multiple things trying to diagnose - including switch replacement itself as indicated, tightened up a loose wire connection, cleaned the unit, among other combination of things to fix the issue. However, effort does not equate to result in this case. I would also hate to blame everything on age :) (a lot of house around have the same units). From my individual viewpoint, my a/c had an issue; I called for service; I paid for the service expecting a functioning unit again; now I have an a/c blowing warm air. Ps. Now I am really concerned my car repair guy might have the same disclaimer around unless I buy a new car! Ps2. Really tired of typing up long responses, but I DID signed up for the repair for the price quoted (as I mentioned in my original post). And I DID received the commentaries that there is no guarantee. I just didn't expect it is going to be a week. ____________________________________ This exchange becomes interesting, and I felt obligated to respond as some comments become hash accusations or personal attacks. I don't believe I said anything hash in my original post besides expressing my dissatisfaction for burning close to $900 without a working a/c. The fact that I requested for a refund but denied. Isn't that what happened? Couple things are incorrectly stated in your note: - You are more than welcome to come back and take the parts. The unit and parts are all here for you to see and inspect. I would like to claim the part warranty as you said - we were not aware of such, as you said no to my refund request. - We have not replaced the a/c unit yet (hence my agony in those hot days), but as I mentioned, I am in the process of doing so. Hence, I don't want to waste your technician's valuable time to come back and try to fix something that will be soon replaced. It is my gesture of courtesy and respect of your valuable time, not trying to hide something. Funny that the only thing I want is a working a/c. - I do greatly appreciate peoples' time and effort. I told the tech that I am ok to take the price, albeit high, but what I am not ok with is that the a/c is not working in a week. And the fact that I am willing to invest my valuable time to write public posts is because it is a hot house to be in! read more
