Can't express how disappointed I am of my experience at Mexican Mom. Based on the wonderful reviews, I was super excited and had been waiting for weeks to try this place. We walked in and the place was really busy. Obviously a good sign. They pointed us to the available table and after 20-25 minutes of waiting to be served, we left. To be fair, the server did bring us water with no ice and after asking for the drink menu he did bring it to me. They were obviously busy but the fact that there was no acknowledgement of our wait or of us even being there really bothered me. I hate this for them but 1st impressions matter and ours was terrible. read more

Long overdue visit nice place I ordered chile an ogada and taco plate it took longer than expected restaurant was not that busy I'm from Puebla and the dish was good. My great grandmother, granny and mom always egg/batter and deep fried the chile poblano give it a better taste. The sauce was very watery not smooth. Over all was good nice place another restaurant checked out of my list. Always a good experience. Great food and a varied menu from week to week. We are never disappointed in the service but it can be a little slow because of the number of staff. They're working hard the whole time. The interior is cozy and didn't cram too many tables in. The kitchen is open to the dining area just like Mom's house. :) read more

Wonderful restaurant. I found it by a chance because I was looking for a restaurant that had Chile en Nogada in the menu. I am glad I did. I had that plate already twice in a week. Food is superb, real Mexican food, not Tex Mex like other restaurants around. It made me remember my times when visited Mexico City. The owners Gina and Jaime are lovely and charming. I also tried the empanadas, the ones I liked most are the minced meat, and the apple one. I want to go back tomorrow to try the Taco Pescador (shrimp tacos) because they are similar to the ones I also tried in Mexico City. I like the fact the menu changes every week, so there is always the possibility of trying new dishes. I hope they soon include Crema de Chile Poblano in the menu. read more

Yum, yum come and get you some! This was my first time at Mexican Mom and it was a great experience. The service was excellent and the food was absolutely delicious. A quaint and comfortable dining area makes it even more delightful. And the 80's music was icing on the cake for this Gen X'er. I'm not a huge fan of enchiladas (which is why I tried them here) but the Enchiladas Verdes were muy bueno. I'd bring my wife next time but that means she'd have to actually leave the house. If you can get your significant other to join you, they won't regret it. Give Mexican Mom a try! Pro Tip: Come on a Tuesday for lunch. We came on a Saturday morning around 11:30, which is important since most Mexican restaurants don't have breakfast past 11 and we wanted to chilaquiles and boy did we find a great place. They were delicious! The place was nice, comfortable, and quiet. Worth it! read more

I've been there three times already and planning on going again. What a hidden gem. The food is just like I remember my Mom's food. What a difference from the run of the mill "Mexican" restaurants. The service was on point. One of may favorite dishes is the Cream of Corn soup. I was transported to my childhood days with the first taste. Some people think is a little pricey, even if it is. Holy cow. This place is a hidden gem. By far the best Mexican food I've ever had in the Woodlands area. Will be back.

The food here is authentic and so wholesome. I absolutely love the fact that Mexican Mom cooks everything herself and prepares everything as it is ordered. That being said it does take a long time for food to be prepared and an added cost is given due to the fresh ingredients and lack of workers. The service is amazing as Mexican Moms husband is the server. He is so kind and represents their business well. While waiting for your food you can play a variety of games provided and enjoy the amazing home filled ambiance of this genuine restaurant. If you are used to Tex-Mex and have not experienced genuine Mexican food be prepared for a variety of flavors you may have never experienced. Just left this place and even though they have a sign on the door that says thank you for your patience, I was highly HIGHLY disappointed. The camarones a la diabla were one of the worst things I've ever had. I get this dish every time I'm at a restaurant and see it on a menu, as well have had the actual thing in Mexico as I'm Mexican. They definitely weren't camarones a la diabla, they should take off La diabla and put ahogadas in jitomate. It's was literally shrimp in tomato sauce, and made me so nauseous. There was no spice anywhere in that dish and it was so watery. I didn't even eat it! Also I asked the waiter if it came with tortillas and he said yes. When they brought the food (which was all brought out at different times. One person was done eating while the other persons food was barely coming out) my tortilla were never in sight and I had to ask for them. Never once were we asked if everything was ok or if we needed anything, and we had to ask for the check. It almost as we were being ignored. So sad, and horrible experience. read more

Hands down the best, most authentic Mexican food in Houston. The dishes are not the usual Tex-Mex fare. It is similar to what you would find in Mexico City. I have never had a less than stellar experience - food or service. The wait staff, the cooks, the owner - all are so nice and accommodating. I love the family style atmosphere. This is not your average chips at the table Tex-Mex restaurant. It is chef-inspired authentic Mexican food! And everything is fabulous! The husband and wife owners are the chefs. They are very friendly and visit the guests at the tables. Every week half of the entrées are rotated out with new ones that the chef creates. For an appetizer we had the empanadas. Beautiful decorations, casual and family-like vibe, and most importantly, awesome service that makes you feel like home. While servers in every other restaurant greet you by "how are you doing today?", the chef here, a loving Mexican mom, asked me "how's your mom doing?" That's how the connection was built between a welcoming restaurant and a first-time guest. Food-wise: I ordered white fish something something from the weekly menu, and it's so darn good!
