This place has been blowing up on social media so I had to take a trip to see what the fuss was about. I grabbed my favorite Mexican mom and headed to an unassuming location right in front of the Walmart gas pumps. The interior is charming and you are greeted immediately by a cheerful server. They've got two menus; one that is available daily and one that focuses on weekly rotating specials. Both contained intriguing options and selection was difficult. We settled on the choriqueso and quesadillas on the regular menu and the tacos matamoros from the weekly menu. We were more than pleased with our choices. The choriqueso was a gooey, spicy concoction accompanied by street sized corn tortillas and was super filling. The quesadilla was light and full of jamon. The tacos disappeared with the speed of lightning so clearly were a hit. We had to add desserts to our order to take home. The chocolate tres leches was swimming in chocolate cream and was rich and satisfying. The churros were crisp and sweet and everything they should be. I get the buzz. I'm gonna spread it! read more

Mexican Mom is a special and unique dining experience that stands out from all of the chain restaurants in the woodlands. It's a chic restaurant inside and everything is scratch made. Weekly the menu changes for a new spin on Mexico City cuisine. You can see that Chef Gina loves what she does as she dances through the kitchen and she and the staff welcome people as though it were her home. We had the empanadas (beef and chicken) excellent! Chicken was a bit spicy but so good. We also had enchiladas verdes and Mixiote de pollo. Wow! Get there early if you don't want to risk them running out of food. Mexican Mom Review: TL/DR 2 thumbs up is not enough thumbs We've been wanting to try it out since we sampled their dishes at Taste of the Town, but the first try wasn't in the cards...they happened to be hosting a private Hanukkah party on the day we went. It's taken us all this time to get back there and now I'm sad about all the wasted time. First impression was a clean but very homey place...exactly like going to your Mexican friend or family's place for dinner. The more we sat, the more we noticed and the more comfortable and appealing the atmosphere became. The owner quickly ran from the kitchen when I placed my purse on the floor and put it up on a step-stool, letting me know that in Mexico, the custom says you can't do that or you lose all your money. It was incredibly endearing and made us feel like we were amongst friends, and not just guests at a typical restaurant with meal prepared by someone you'll never see. That feeling continued as we watched her and other employees dance as they prepped the meals. The menu is small with most dishes rotating, but the empanada and several dishes, including one we ordered (enchiladas bandera) are constant. I truly love that concept and it means each dish is given lots of attention. We started with one each of the three savory empanada. The pic is only half of each as I dove in before remembering...they're nice size. Served with a slightly too spicy for my wimpy mouth pepper sauce and a delightfully fresh chimichurri. I did use the hot sauce, just very sparingly. Empanadas: Chicken: my fav. Tender and flavorful and just a very consistent bite. Poblano: this was also tasty...I liked the creamy contrast to the slightly crunchy shell Mexican mom sirloin: in comparison to most empanada I've had, this would be a winner. It was our least favorite of the three. Flavor profile was fine but unusual and some of the sirloin chunks were too large for our liking. Entrees: Chile en Nogado: I've been waiting, hunting, searching and sadly missed them on their last go round here due to the party. It was worth the wait. It was the exact taste in my memory...perfectly spiced meat and apples and all the things stuffed into a pepper and the creamiest, dreamiest walnut sauce, topped with pomegranate seeds. It satisfied my desperate craving perfectly. This is not a dish for everyone...it's for the savory/sweet lovers only, but it's just an amazing dish. While their menu rotates, my guess is that it will be back soon as it's a traditional fall dish. Raving about rice seems odd, but the rice it came with was also perfectly done and tasty. Bandera enchiladas: Wow. Just...wow. The red sauce was so amazingly full of flavors and freshness. It was a hair spicy, but again, I'm a bit on the light side of spice tolerance and in no way did this stop me from enjoying every single mouthful. I would buy the sauce if they sold it lol. I had fun switching from that to the sweet Chile en nogada to add a sweet heat element. The salsa verde was incredible. The meats and cheeses in the dish were perfectly done. It was full of complex flavors but somehow, exactly as simple as you want comfort food to be. We added an egg on top...the egg did come on the side as they were also hard at work on an AC issue so shorter staffed, but they added the touch of including the sauces on top of the beautifully done over medium egg. The best surprise bite was the refried beans. I don't know how you make refried beans taste that good, but I know it involves a lot of love because spices alone could not result in that. Dessert: Rompopo Tres Leches: Huge, excellent rum raisin flavor, great texture, and the raspberry drizzle adds an element to cut the sweet Flan: This was a firmer flan than is either of our normal preference, but the flavor is 100 % there and the caramel sauce was perfection. It was a bit cold on arrival and as it warmed up, it got better and better. We are every bit; I wanted to lick the sauce off the plate. We both agreed that the only thing wrong with the place is that it's not next to either of our houses . "Mom" was quick to point out that it's a halfway meeting spot for us. Since it is small and homey, it got busy at points, but I promise, if you go, it'll be worth the wait. This was one of the best meals I've ever eaten in my life, hands down. read more

This is an amazing Mexican restaurant that truly sets itself apart from all others. The menu changes daily and they have some staple items that are always available. We tried the enchiladas, cochinita pibil, the heart of palm salad and several other dishes. ALL WERE AMAZING! Highly recommended and the chef prepares truly authentic Mexican dishes with such flavors that you feel as if your dish was made just for you. A true Mexican Mom cooking here! This place is a great find!! Where to start? Ok... Decoration and atmosphere is on point, reminds me of a casual high scale restaurant in Mexico City. The menu is simple but rich, great combination of central and southern Mexican cuisine. I ordered the chicken enchiladas verdes because you know the restaurant by the attention they put in their salsas and the cheese they use ;) These are the BEST central Mexican enchiladas I've had in years this side of the border! Frijoles were also on point, I would have enjoyed a few more chips, but that is also the way we do it in Mexico, 2-3 tortilla chips on your beans. And if that was not enough, the owners and staff are a delightful team of people. I started a conversation with Jaime and then Chef Gina, what a wonderful couple committed to serve authentic Mexican food made with the love of a true Mexican Mom! Absolutely fabulous. Beautiful small restaurant extremely nice server which I think was the manager. Seating is very limited though. They don't have fountain drinks so if you have kids be aware. It's a little pricey but the food is fresh and unlike any Mexican food I have had in the area. 100% would recommend for a unique experience as the menu changes weekly. We visited for our first time yesterday and really enjoyed the whole experience. My wife really raved about the ambiance. She kept saying how cute it was inside. Our service was commendable. Our waitress was very helpful with questions and descriptions of menu items. I really liked that they have pictures on the menu. The menu was relatively small which suited me just fine. We had two empanadas, the beef and the creamy pablano rajas, they were delicious with the pablano being my favorite. We had the Pico de Colibri appetizer which was so fresh tasting. My wife and I ordered our entrees off of the Weekly Menu. I think it is cool that they change their menu up weekly and keep it interesting. My son had the enchiladas which I was unable to get a bite of. I had a seafood soup and my wife had a barbacoa dish. They were both delicious. Tons of flavor. We had flan, tres leches, and churros for dessert. We love flan and their rendition was simple and satisfying. I enjoyed the tres leches the most among the desserts. I believe the chefs name was Gaby if I'm not mistaken.. she came out to check on how the food tasted, and offered if we needed anything. That was nice to see! Wow!!! What amazing food and service at Mexican Mom! Gina aka Mom really makes you feel like part of the family! Visiting family and unfamiliar with the area, I searched yelp for lunch spots that are good for kids since we had three under three (2 & 1/2, 1 & 1/2 and 9 months). We walked into a very cozy and homey restaurant but felt insecure that it was too nice for our kiddos and the full lunch crowd. We walked out to find somewhere else but Gina followed to say she could get more high chairs if we wanted to stay. I'm so glad we did! Not only did the adults have amazing meals, but Gina also came out with snacks for the kiddos and even made them a special plates! She also had puzzles and books to help entertain. Everyone was so warm and welcoming. It was so nice to be welcomed into a restaurant even with littles on our hips. If we are ever back in the area, I know exactly where we will be eating!!
