This is a great restaurant. The food is interior Mexican -- the Proprietors are from Mexico City. The "Mom" runs the kitchen and her husband is the very gracious host. The food is delicious. Everything is scratch made and you can taste the quality and care that went into it. It's a cliche to say that "it's like something your mother or grandmother would make", but that is what this place feels and tastes like. The Woodlands has many great restaurants. There's apparently some buzz surrounding this new restaurant on Saw Dust RD. and after having a lunch here on a Sunday afternoon, I can see why. The moment you walk in, you feel like you've entered someone's cozy home. I liked the fact that you could see the kitchen preparations from your table. We ordered a beef empanada and a chicken with cheese empanada as an appetizer. They came with two spicy and flavorful sauces and were so large, we almost filled up on just these. Both were so good I could not choose a favorite. My partner ordered chicken enchiladas and I was in the mood for something different so I ordered Chilaquiles verdes with chicken, which I had never tasted before. It's basically home made tortilla chips, shredded chicken, cheese and a green sauce that is amazing. The beans it came with were above average. I liked everything about my meal and will be back. There are few places that take such pride in their food. So to fine the amazing Mexican restaurant was a diamond in the rough. It's strip mall location in front of a Walmart is so unassuming but when you walk in and smell the lovely scent of Mexican food, it immediately transports you to Mexico with what awaits you is the most delicious food I've had in the Woodlands area. That is something to be said as The Woodlands is acquiring more and more tasty eateries. My husband and I got the empanadas, Queso Fundido, and chicken enchiladas. Jamie is the topping on the cake for this place as he is full of amazing recommendations and explanations of the dishes. Plus he makes a mean spicy margarita. Amazing authentic Mexican food, sauces made in house and with lots of love. I had the chicken enchiladas with the best green sauce I've ever had. That day, she also had a seasonal salad with pears and walnuts and a fantastic light vinaigrette. I just had lunch here today with my parents. We chose this place because it had such good reviews on Yelp already, and they were 100% right! The food was seriously amazing! We ordered the queso fundido with chorizo as an app, which had the perfect texture, not too chewy. I got a special entree, a chipotle chicken with raisins and mashed potatoes. The chipotle sauce was nuts! I will definitely be going back here the next time I'm in Houston. read more

Honestly really disappointing after seeing the great reviews. The service was horrible, we were ignored by the waiter for the first 10 minutes even though there were only two families in at this time. He finally came over to our table to take our drink order, left before actually getting everyone's order and took the menus with him instead of giving them to us. We had to ask the other waitress for menus after he never came back. Drinks were completely forgotten all together. Food took forever to come out and there was something wrong with almost every dish. Only good thing was the empanadas. They did apologize about the food inconveniences and took one of the items off our bill but they strongly hinted that they wanted us to leave by giving us the bill after we had only had our food for a very short amount of time. I know the owners were out of town but I do not believe that is a good enough reason for this situation to happen. read more

It's rare that I give 5 stars but this restaurant deserves them. The only possible con is the the menus is limited but that's it. The food was fabulous. I ordered the chicken enchiladas for lunch and they were the best I have ever had. I never realized how good Mexican food can be until today! My husband & I visited this establishment in June 2023 after reading the excellent reviews on The Woodlands Foodies FB page. The Mexican Mom absolutely exceeded our expectations. From the time we walked in the door it was a fun-filled evening. The owner, Gina and her husband, Jaime are friendly, warm, accommodating and welcoming. The service is spot on and every dish is homemade with heartfelt love! Gina offered us crickets, yes "I said crickets" for a crispy starter. Theses little jewels originate from her home of Quaxaca, south of Mexico City. My husband & I both selected the chicken verdes with green verde sauce accompanied with tasty charro beans. The chicken verdes green sauce is authentic, flavorful and just enough spice to make you wanting more. We complimented our meal with a warm apple filled crispy empanada with light whipped cream. The apple empanadas are over the top! Not overly sweet with a hint of cinnamon mixed with fresh apples. The establishment decor is crisp, classy and uncluttered. The background music was very relaxed and appropriate for the quaint setting. My husband has traveled all over the world and said "this place is as good as it gets" ....and he would give it 10 stars! We heard about this place & thought we would try it out based on good reviews. Well...it was amazing! We are very picky when it comes to quality food and most places are one and done for us. This place will be repeat customers for sure. They make you feel like your at home from the moment you walk in. They gave our children blankets to keep them warm while they were eating, made the cutest plate for them with quesadillas, Nutella & animal crackers, orange slices & a sucker for desert. We also were served a complementary glass of Sangria which was amazing! I ordered the poblano empanada and was so flavorful! I also got the huevos and chorizo taco and wasn't greasy at all. First time patron today... I followed the reviews and tried it out. Boom! Super excellent food. I tried the Enchilades Verdes with an added egg on top and the tastes and presentation were extraordinary. Mexican Mom is Mexican recipes as opposed to Tex-Mex... did not provide chips and salsa but those would have just taken away from the main entree! The menu is in two parts... 1/2 the items available all the time and then the other 1/2 showing the unique weekly offerings. Restaurant was clean and modern and staff were on top of it. Today, I visited Mexican Mom restaurant as a Christian Mexican American Attorney. I started the Togo order with an Arnold Palmer, which was the best Arnold Palmer I have ever had. I met the owners and their staff who were all very nice and humble and very gifted. The Ambiance was modern but yet traditional at home Texas Mexican feeling. They have mini bag games on the wooden custom tables, a nice touch. I ordered the enchilada's verde, a ham quesadilla for my wife and a kids meal cheese quesadilla for our toddler son. My wife is Cuban and Italian so when she tasted the ham quesadilla she said is this Cuban?!? That's how good it was. I ate all my enchiladas with my wife's help on the homemade corn tortilla chips included with it, again, the best I have ever had and that's saying a lot since I'm native to Southern California and have eaten in the best Mexican restaurants in San Diego (Old Town), Orange County (Santa Ana and Garden Grove), and East Los Angeles. Our toddler son has been struggling to eat his food lately; however, God used Mexican Mom to heal him. He ate the quesadilla and the oranges - he was eating for an hour, which is the longest he has sitter down to eat. My wife grabbed the gummy bears from our son and said he's too young for them - LOL. To top it all off I ordered the tres leches, WOW - to die for. God bless this business and it's owners and their family and staff. I told the owners before I left, I am going to call it now, the Food Network will be paying this restaurant a visit and they will be on TV. The Food, Service, and Ambiance is that good. read more

The food here is stupendous. It really is made with love. We had the chiles en nogada (October only). But it's all really good. The pastries are spectacular.
