Came here on a cold Saturday and it was busy. All the tables were filled up. I just wish they had smaller tables for smaller parties. Most of the tables fit up to 6 people comfortably and for a party of 2, it's a shamed some customers left because there were no open tables unless they were comfortable sharing a community table. They did have nice couches as a seated area along some tables. The service was okay due to the difficulties of getting someone's attention. I needed more sauce and later needed the check. When I ended up going to the counter to pay and get myself the sauce, someone said they'll come to me. They ended up forgetting. By that time, the lunch rush had died out, so it wasn't as busy as earlier. Regardless, the food was really good. I definitely recommend the beef empanadas! They were a good hand size. But again, I wish they served it with more sauce instead of tiny little containers for two bites. I'm a sauce girl... I also ordered the chicken enchiladas verdes. They were really nice enough to split a plate for me and my husband and we both had a big plate full. I'll definitely come back and hopefully get to try other things I haven't tried yet. I've raved about the beef empanadas to my husband before arriving, and he agreed they were so yummy! Can't wait to come back! read more

Because everything about the experience was high-quality. --- --- --- I watched the glowing reviews piling in for Mexican Mom and knew I had to check it out ASAP, so we recently headed down to Sawdust to see what all the hype was about. As we pulled into the parking lot, I had a bittersweet moment as my wife pointed out that this had taken over the space of a cajun restaurant that I really loved. And while that bummed me out, I am happy to say that Mexican Mom has done really great things with this restaurant. The interior now looks like something you'd see on HGTV. While I loved the food from the former tenant, everything was dark and outdated. Now the space is open and bright. As for the food itself, this is much more authentic Mexican cuisine than the Tex-Mex you'll find at the Gringo's/Pappasito's of the world. But just because it's a bit different, doesn't mean it's not awesome. We started off with the choriqueso, which was honestly the best thing we tasted here. I could not ever imagine coming back to Mexican Mom without ordering this and I cannot recommend highly enough that you do the same! My wife ordered the chicken quesadilla and I ordered the chicken enchilada. We both thought the quesadilla was a bit on the dry side at first, but once we added the pico de gallo, it made things much better. My enchilada was really great. And it tasted super fresh. I did not feel like I just ate a pound of grease afterward, which is standard after the usual Tex-Mex experience. We finished with the chocolate tres leches, which was as awesome as it sounds and looks in the photo I added. The service was great and "Mexican Mom" herself came by our table a couple of times when she had a free moment. She was super friendly and engaged our 4 year old with toys and stickers. These little touches make such a huge difference for a new business. After one visit, I have no doubt that this restaurant will be a massive success. read more

*rip* I just opened the report card for Mexican Mom and I'm Happy to report they made straight A's! Good food - A+ Service - A+ Family run - A+ Different experience - A+ I've been here 3 times now and it's time for a review. This place is both cool and different. Different in they have a small permanent menu coupled with a different weekly menu that changes on Mondays. You can sit on sofas at your table and if you get cold, they will give you a shawl for warmth. Neat. The food? Awesome sauce. I've had empanadas, posole verde, Picadillo, tacos, and sneak bite of my son's quesadilla. Everything is super fresh and tasty. The owners, Gina and Jaime are very hospitable and and regularly come out and visit with guests in between cooking and serving their delicious meals. I love this place! read more

Had time to kill between MDs appt and Mexican Mom came to mine. It is was so good to talk with Jaime and Gina, but the Poblano Corn Empanada, beans and rice are absolutely delicious. Not TEX MEX, but authentic cuisine from Mexico City. Nothing like Tex Mex. The Chimichurri Sauce is my favorite, but I mix the orange colored sauce with it. The crust is so crispy and freshy fried. They serve Beef Olive and Chicken Cheese Empananda, equally delicious. The owners of the place are what make the ambience of this restaurant. They genuinely love their customers. Their menu changes daily, but there are other dishes to try. The menu is huge. The Mexican Mom Casserole is the best entree I have ever tasted. This place, is hands down from here on out the only place I will go to for Mexican food. This place offers nothing but authentic Mexican food, and not the Tex Mex stuff on every other corner of the Woodlands. The place itself has a very homey atmosphere, where you get a good view of the kitchen and how food is being prepared (10/10 in my opinion) when you walk in there is no host, but you are welcome to sit anywhere that is open, do not let that deter you from staying if it's full, the food will be worth the wait!) The chilaquiles verdes were amazing, and the portion was more than generous. Adding chicken is totally worth the up charge, and I'm just sad I couldn't order more stuff as I was full, but will definitely visit them again! read more

Having lived in Southern Mexico for many years, I don't expect to find the "real deal" here locally. I was wrong. The menu is out of this world and not your typical TexMex found here (though I do love good TexMex too). This is authenticity at its best. I could make a meal on the queso fundido con chorizo. I was skeptical going in to a small mom n pop with such a high yelp rating but holy cow!!! The hype is real!! The tables are big enough that you feel you're having a meal at home, every table has usb plugs next to it. The server explained the menu and we ended up ordering the pico with chips, enchiladas and churros. The pico was absolutely mind blowing and worth Michelin Star. The green sauce was so perfectly done that after my dinner I told the owner you could easily sell this sauce! To which I learnt that was the business they had before the restaurant. The tomatillo taste in that sauce so vibrant that I've never tasted such perfect cooked green sauce. The churros were fresh and cooked to perfection with a soft core and crunchy shell dusted with enough cinnamon and sugar that you really have no need to dip in the honey or condensed milk served with it. Can't express how disappointed I am of my experience at Mexican Mom. Based on the wonderful reviews, I was super excited and had been waiting for weeks to try this place. We walked in and the place was really busy. Obviously a good sign. They pointed us to the available table and after 20-25 minutes of waiting to be served, we left. To be fair, the server did bring us water with no ice and after asking for the drink menu he did bring it to me. They were obviously busy but the fact that there was no acknowledgement of our wait or of us even being there really bothered me. I hate this for them but 1st impressions matter and ours was terrible. read more

Long overdue visit nice place I ordered chile an ogada and taco plate it took longer than expected restaurant was not that busy I'm from Puebla and the dish was good. My great grandmother, granny and mom always egg/batter and deep fried the chile poblano give it a better taste. The sauce was very watery not smooth. Mexican Mom Review: TL/DR 2 thumbs up is not enough thumbs We've been wanting to try it out since we sampled their dishes at Taste of the Town, but the first try wasn't in the cards...they happened to be hosting a private Hanukkah party on the day we went. It's taken us all this time to get back there and now I'm sad about all the wasted time. First impression was a clean but very homey place...exactly like going to your Mexican friend or family's place for dinner. The more we sat, the more we noticed and the more comfortable and appealing the atmosphere became. The owner quickly ran from the kitchen when I placed my purse on the floor and put it up on a step-stool, letting me know that in Mexico, the custom says you can't do that or you lose all your money. It was incredibly endearing and made us feel like we were amongst friends, and not just guests at a typical restaurant with meal prepared by someone you'll never see. That feeling continued as we watched her and other employees dance as they prepped the meals. The menu is small with most dishes rotating, but the empanada and several dishes, including one we ordered (enchiladas bandera) are constant. I truly love that concept and it means each dish is given lots of attention. We started with one each of the three savory empanada. The pic is only half of each as I dove in before remembering...they're nice size. Served with a slightly too spicy for my wimpy mouth pepper sauce and a delightfully fresh chimichurri. I did use the hot sauce, just very sparingly. Empanadas: Chicken: my fav. Tender and flavorful and just a very consistent bite. Poblano: this was also tasty...I liked the creamy contrast to the slightly crunchy shell Mexican mom sirloin: in comparison to most empanada I've had, this would be a winner. It was our least favorite of the three. Flavor profile was fine but unusual and some of the sirloin chunks were too large for our liking. Entrees: Chile en Nogado: I've been waiting, hunting, searching and sadly missed them on their last go round here due to the party. It was worth the wait. It was the exact taste in my memory...perfectly spiced meat and apples and all the things stuffed into a pepper and the creamiest, dreamiest walnut sauce, topped with pomegranate seeds. It satisfied my desperate craving perfectly. This is not a dish for everyone...it's for the savory/sweet lovers only, but it's just an amazing dish. While their menu rotates, my guess is that it will be back soon as it's a traditional fall dish. Raving about rice seems odd, but the rice it came with was also perfectly done and tasty. Bandera enchiladas: Wow. Just...wow. The red sauce was so amazingly full of flavors and freshness. It was a hair spicy, but again, I'm a bit on the light side of spice tolerance and in no way did this stop me from enjoying every single mouthful. I would buy the sauce if they sold it lol. I had fun switching from that to the sweet Chile en nogada to add a sweet heat element. The salsa verde was incredible. The meats and cheeses in the dish were perfectly done. It was full of complex flavors but somehow, exactly as simple as you want comfort food to be. We added an egg on top...the egg did come on the side as they were also hard at work on an AC issue so shorter staffed, but they added the touch of including the sauces on top of the beautifully done over medium egg. The best surprise bite was the refried beans. I don't know how you make refried beans taste that good, but I know it involves a lot of love because spices alone could not result in that. Dessert: Rompopo Tres Leches: Huge, excellent rum raisin flavor, great texture, and the raspberry drizzle adds an element to cut the sweet Flan: This was a firmer flan than is either of our normal preference, but the flavor is 100 % there and the caramel sauce was perfection. It was a bit cold on arrival and as it warmed up, it got better and better. We are every bit; I wanted to lick the sauce off the plate. We both agreed that the only thing wrong with the place is that it's not next to either of our houses . "Mom" was quick to point out that it's a halfway meeting spot for us. Since it is small and homey, it got busy at points, but I promise, if you go, it'll be worth the wait. This was one of the best meals I've ever eaten in my life, hands down. read more

All star experience on every level-- service, food, atmosphere, presentation and most importantly authenticity. I say that because this is NOT Tex-Mex. As a Californian, I have grown to love TexMex but only under duress. It has its place, but that place is not here. Be warned that nothing will have American cheese (which arguably isn't really even a cheese). This is the real deal-- authentic Mexican food with dishes and ingredients paying homage to the regions of Mexico. I love that they have both a fixed menu and a weekly specials menu. The latter with new delicious chef inspired dishes that starts new on every Monday. The empanadas both varieties -- savory and sweet are fresh made with a perfect crisp flaky crust and wonderful filling. Disclaimer: You will burn your mouth with impatience to eat them. We had the Beef Empanada for a starter. Super tasty. The Choriqueso-- a piping hot cheesy chorizo appetizer spooned into fresh made tortillas is a must have. My husband had the weekly special -- a "drowned" torta. A pork sandwich on fresh bread smothered in a steaming red sauce that had just enough kick to make it adventurous. Delicious! I had the enchiladas verdes. There were probably the best I have had, ever. The staples -- refritos and rice were delicious, simple, and not overly seasoned like done in many local restaurants. We loved the duros that accompanied our meal, too. Dessert? Apple empanada as previously mentioned and the chocolate tres leches cake... the chocolate cake was the perfect texture. The hint cinnamon in the chocolate reminded me of a Mexican hot chocolate, although it was a wonderfully chilled dessert. The place is so classily decorated. Indigo walls, faux brick. Beautiful table settings. It's lovely. Service was outstanding. They were pretty busy, but managed to be personal, friendly and accommodating. The chef herself came out to check on us. Jaime, her husband, was our excellent server. While their hours are limited, i will remind you that they are just starting out and a Mexican Mom is still mom.
