    Chocolate croissant $5.75

I came to Metropol recently for a particular item - their Birdseed Multigrain bread. I haven't actually had this before, but was visiting a friend later that day who loves it (and lives outside of Eugene) so, I wanted to bring her a loaf. Unfortunately, they didn't have any out that morning. I was surprised since I was there only about an hour after they opened. One of the workers informed me that they were training a new baker, and believe they just ran out of time to make it that day. Bummer! However, the tides turned quickly when the other person working went back to check their day old stock and with some luck, there was one loaf left. "I'll take it!" Along with that, I purchased a whole wheat sourdough loaf and chocolate croissant. The croissant was gobbled up right away. Flaky, light, buttery, not greasy at all and a healthy amount of chocolate in there. Yum! We've also been joining the sourdough as toast in the morning for the past few days. Metropol's location is on the smaller side, maybe 5 or so tables, some along a large long wall bench one side of the space. No outside seating as it's part of a strip mall. The walls feature an eclectic collection of artwork with no real theme (maybe just what the owner likes), and I couldn't tell if the artwork was for sale or not like some cafes. The interior felt in need of a good deep cleaning in the customer space, at least. A lot of crumbs, etc. on the floor/tables left behind by patrons. I noticed a "Help wanted" sign still up in the door as we exited so maybe this has fallen behind on being short staff. Metropol is out of the way for me, so I likely won't be back soon. However, I would recommend it to anyone looking to pick up quality breads and baked goods.

Finally got here after having bookmarked todd plane for 3 years and dang- I've been missing out. I've been underwhelmed by local fave Sweet Life & this is the bakery for me: tender fresh interesting well done cake! We had coffee cake, September 10 (or some such day, bakers lucky kids birthday) cake, and a cookie with 3 americanos & all were smashing. And across from tsunami Next door to Viking braggart It's a trifecta of fun!

This was my first time, trying out the bakery, and I like it. I tried out a ham & cheese croissant, and it was delicious! I had just got a haircut ‍, and I was hungry. I also tried out their cream puffs, and they are huge! The chocolate is bitter and the cream is sweet! Very messy-not advised for a first date or work munching! Good service! Nice ambiance, but I was ordering to go, since I was waiting for a Lyft driver.

I came to Metropol on a Monday morning around opening and there were already people waiting outside which I took as a good sign! I've seen their pastries being sold at local coffee shops in the area so wanted to give them a try. They have a good amount of pastry and bread options as well as cakes and other desserts. The dessert case was a bit foggy/had some condensation on it so I couldn't see much, but a few cakes looked really nice. They also had food items like breakfast sandwiches and a lunch sandwich menu. I think a lot of people come here for their fresh baked bread loaves which I'm sure are great. I ended up getting a coffee and lemon raspberry muffin. The coffee was solid! They only offered 12, 16, and 20 oz sizes. The muffin was delicious. Strong lemon and raspberry flavor. Very sweet. I loved the glaze on top. Perfectly moist too. I took everything to go since it was a bit dark and musty in there. I don't think it's the type of place to sit down and do work. Metropol probably wont make my weekly coffee rotation but I would definitely come back for the muffin if I find myself in the mood!! Also the employee who took my order was extremely friendly and kind :)

Sweet Life, to me, is like coming home…read more While growing up, we'd come here after pretty much anything positive to celebrate. Then, for years it was one of two places I both wanted to go to and take people to experience each time I visited. Now that I live here again, I strangely only get delivery. However, even saying the name brings on a childish grin (and possibly happy tears) to my eyes! It doesn't hurt that their key lime tart is my favorite dessert not called sorbet of all time. Oh, yes, they also have sorbet, and while it isn't on Wanderlust's level, I don't care. They execute every single thing with a level of precision and care that you just don't see often, and somehow do it in a way that feels welcoming! Thank you, Sweet Life, thank you.

I got the tiramisu and two pieces of chocolate. The tiramisu was a bit different from the ones made with ladyfingers. I think this one was made with chiffon cake instead, so the texture was a little bit dry for my liking. The flavor was good though, more on the chocolate side. I liked the earl grey chocolate, but man, I couldn't stand the little yellow dots on it. They reminded me of those little eggs from some insect that lays eggs on your clothes in the summer. The earl grey filling was nice, smooth and citrusy. The passionfruit chocolate was really cute, kinda had the look of a quail egg shell. The filling was a bit more sour compared to the earl grey one. But in general both chocolates were quite similar. My partner had the zucchini pound cake, and he loved it a lot. I don't know much about Eugene, as we were just passing through on our road trip, but I'd definitely recommend people come here when they visit Eugene.

This is where I would love to be! My daughter has been here a few times and sh told me that this place makes the kouign amann pastry. Unfortunately the day we went, they didn't have any so I opted for a latte and the pumpkin cookie and my daughter had the london fog and the cannoli. We sat in a corner, enjoyed our drinks, pastries and conversations. I also enjoyed the background music playing. It was old 80's to 90's country that brought back good memories. lol Overall, I can see why this place is a favorite. The coffee is delicious. I love how this is a family owned business and they roast their own beans! The interactions I see with their customers and pets is what makes a good place to support.

When I was growing up we didn't really visit bakeries, I don't drink coffee, and my mom was a black coffee only sort of person, so not really much need. Whilst visiting Saturday Market I stopped in with my tired, grumpy toddler to get her a hot chocolate. I got myself one too, and it was excellent. The whipped cream especially was nice; I am positive it's made from heavy whipping cream and it was so yummy I just wanted to eat some whipped cream. I know my kiddo enjoyed hers, especially if the state of her face and clothes was any indication. I've had a lot of hot chocolate, including from Mindy's in Chicago which many like to claim as the best (it's good, but honestly a bit too thick for me), but I think Palace may have the best. The secret is that they use ganache for their hot chocolate. It's the ganache that they sell in the shop, so it's easy to acquire. The staff member mentioned that she likes to dip strawberries in it, and she said they keep it in the fridge and it stays good for a while. I'm not sure I'll pick some up this time since we're heading into the warm weather months, but we'll be getting some (or having my sister send some) as we move into autumn for sure. I will say that if you get hot chocolate you will need to check work--TWICE I asked for whipped cream, at two different visits, and they didn't put any on (though they left space for it, so either fill it with chocolate or add the cream please). I was planning to get a maple bar here, but when I saw them changed my mind--they didn't look particularly appetizing. They had several other pastries though so it was an easy swap out for a kouign amann, my favorite pastry, and a marionberry strudel. Both were great. The marionberry strudel was particularly special since marionberries are more tart blackberry variant native to Marion County, Oregon; marionberries are rarely found outside Oregon, and if so not much beyond the border states. It was overflowing with marionberry and hit the spot, and my little one was a fan too. There was a good amount of seating, too, spread across two rooms. There's an entrance both from the Park Street side and Pearl; on the west side you'll get to see the bakers hard at work. They had some huge breakfast burritos that looked really good, but since I wasn't heading home immediately we took a pass on them--this time. Parking is street only, though it's not unlikely that you'll find parking on Pearl, Broadway, Oak, or Park.

It was super busy when I visited around 9:45am on a Monday, so you know they're good. I was greeted immediately and placed my order quickly. The girl working the register was super helpful and friendly. I wanted to try the seasonal banana bread cold brew, but I can't have caffeinated drinks so I asked if it could be made decaf. She said she can do it as a decaf latte instead and I agreed. It is SO good! It's sweet, but not overwhelmingly so. You can taste banana and cinnamon, perfectly balanced. I was worried the banana flavor would be fake tasting but it's not, it tastes like real bananas. I also got the Sasquatch sushi because I had to know what it was and it was amazing. It's a pbj with banana, in sushi form! It's such a cool idea and tasted fantastic. My partner was also super entertained by it and he loved it too. I got the Sunbreak breakfast sandwich and it was delicious. Everything I had here today was fantastic! I love this little cafe and will absolutely be back. I already recommended them to two of my friends as well. Go here, you won't regret it!
