Another terrific meal at the Raleigh outlet of this regional chain. There was a 20 minute wait on this Saturday night. A text system is used to let you know when the table is ready so was were able to wait in the car. Was texted back in 23 minutes and seated promptly. About half the tables have been removed to respect social distancing. There are glass partitions between each booth. All of the available tables/booths were full, but it didn't feel like we were on top of one another. My favorite on this menu is the chicken & waffles. A half chicken is flour-dredged and fried deep golden brown. It's super crunchy with just-right spices. Meat is tender and juicy. Pair that with a freshly griddled Belgian waffle - fluffy and rich, topped with a dollop of strawberry butter plus syrup. This is heaven on a plate. Our server, Chennin, was a pleasure. Chipper and friendly, she did a great job. In a demonstration of outstanding customer service... An extra serving of chicken and waffles was accidently ordered from the kitchen. After realizing that it was not ordered at the table, Chennin boxed up the extra meal and comped it to us. The kitchen certainly could have kept it heated for the next order... But instead they decided to provide a treat. Guess it's chicken & waffles for breakfast tomorrow! Plenty of other choices in the menu... Not quite as extensive as a NJ diner, but I've tried a number of the offerings, all delicious. Not a gourmet spot, but food is great, servings are big and service is spot-on. Recommended. read more

Traveling thru the area and decided that a diner would be a good choice for dinner as diners generally offer a gigantic menu with lots of choices. Got seated right away, and the server came over to me immediately . Those are the only pluses for me. I ordered a bowl of chicken noodle soup; I was served a cup. It was good, though. I couldn't find anything on the menu that looked anything short of fast food (boneless wings, burgers, salads and a few sandwiches.) After staring at the menu, I realized that none of the typical diners favorites (Greek salad, turkey & stuffing, open-faced roast beef sandwich), I ordered a special - the Loaded Burger Bowl. It was absolutely unfulfilling: a hamburger patty topped with cheese, chopped lettuce, diced pickles, and Thousand Island dressing over a pile of greasy fries. I wanted a 2nd drink, but my server was quick to bring my receipt while I was still eating. I waited a short bit for her to come back so I could order a drink, but too much time passed, and I decided to leave. Saturday night I was out most of the night. I left the house a little after 3am. I was a bit tired, but I was really hungry and wanted breakfast. I was on Wake Forest Rd. so I decided to stop at Metro DIner. I arrived at 7:32am (Sunday morning). The place was less than half full. I was greeted immediately and taken to a seat. They brought me some coffee right away. It tasted like a flavored coffee - not what I was expecting but it was okay. I ordered the 3 egg Breakfast. The eggs were scrambled perfectly. The sausage links were good. The hash browns were a bit greasy. The toast was hard but didn't look toasted. I also ordered a waffle. It was light and fluffy with a great taste. The butter that came with the meal was frozen, it actually tore the toast. Coffee - 6 out of 10. Scrambled Eggs - 9 out of 10. Sausage links - 7 out of 10. Hash browns - 4 out of 10, Toast - 6 out of 10. Belgian Waffle - 9 out of 10. Service was fair. Not the best or friendliest, but not any real problems either. Sunday brunch with a couple of friends. Fortunately for me, I checked out the website, which includes an option to get on the waitlist - and for Sunday brunch that is a very good idea. My friends were from out of town and I didn't want them to experience a long wait. In my message I mentioned the time we planned to arrive, and asked that we not had a long wait from that time since one of my party is six months pregnant. The waitlist option worked very well and we were actually seated at 1:30 - the time I mentioned we were planning to arrive. I wasn't expecting a breakfast/brunch only option, but they have such a good variety that was no problem. I ordered the Fried Chicken Benedict -Buttermilk marinated chicken tenders, two poached eggs on a biscuit, topped with creamy Hollandaise and served with a side of hashbrowns. First of all, YES. I love this spot for breakfast and brunch. It gets very busy in the weekends and I've waited as long as an hour to get a table for very good reason. Their shrimp and grits are different than what I'm used to but very much tasty. The cinnamon roll pancakes satisfy your sweet cravings, fill you up and will increase your A1c levels if you're not careful but amazing! And MIMOSAS! Yes, who doesn't love a mimosa with brunch?? They have different flavors too (pineapple, apple, orange, etc.) so have at it! Ambiance is definitely family-friendly, friends breakfast or whatever vibe you're looking for if you want good food. The food and service were great. We were seated immediately and had constantly filled coffee with our food. The sound was bustling for an early Sunday morning and the food was hot and arrived quickly. Ambiance and Parking is why I give this place a 5 review. Always plenty of parking and I love the casual,informal, diner feel of Metro Diner. The service is very fast and I will recommend going here either super early on Saturday/Sunday (like as soon as it opens) otherwise you're going to be waiting forever for a seat. I especially like the patio bc it was good for our 6 month old. She was still in her stroller and we were able to have her on the patio without feeling congested or worried that someone was going to run into her. As for the food, it is good greasy diner food. I appreciated that the wait time was not too long. I was disappointed with the quality of the service from the wait staff. They took our order, gave us the food, and that was the last time we saw them. They did not check up on us to make sure drinks needed refilling and didn't bring syrup for the waffles. Food was just okay. I had the chicken and waffles. The chicken and waffles were overdone and just hard. Seasoning was also missing. The only thing I tasted was a lot of salt. Finally made it back, only this time during breakfast on a Saturday (which stayed super busy). Met the new manager, who really cares about getting the food prepared right, has a great staff, and makes sure the customers are happy with their order. There's so many items on the breakfast menu! We both ordered the traditional eggs Benedict, which are made with Canadian bacon (some places just use ham) and comes with a huge order of crispy hash browns. The eggs were poached perfectly and there is a generous amount of Hollandaise sauce on them, although it was a tad too lemony for me. Those hash browns are killer and brought more than half of them home. Our waitress was excellent and made sure to keep the coffee topped off, which was very tasty too. All in all a great experience, I just wish I didn't live all the over in south Durham. Hopefully they'll build one over this way in the future cos I'd definitely be a regular!! read more

Visited here on a Saturday morning with a friend. Seems to be a very popular, local spot. There was definitely a wait but we were able to order mimosas while we waited. Didn't have to wait as long because my friend was on crutches so they were very accommodating. The inside is very busy and kind of tight but nothing unbearable. When we were seated, we were greeted immediately. We ordered more mimosas and our entrees were the chicken biscuit with macaroni and the chicken and waffles. The chicken biscuit was delicious, the macaroni, not so much. I was able to replace my macaroni with a crispy hash brown that was much too crispy. Would definitely return here again. I picked this place because of the amount of good reviews but it didn't really knock my socks off. It was still good for a diner though! Croissant French toast was definitely all that I hoped it to be. We also had Caesar salad with chicken which was good. The chicken is grilled to order so it was warm not chilled. We also ordered a green salad with buttermilk chicken which was good. Hot honey sandwich was good too. Naturally very sticky. The whole place was a little sticky in general as one would expect from a diner though. And no milkshakes! I expect any diner to have them but I suppose I shouldn't assume. read more

I will definitely say I enjoyed my food and so did my partner. His parents were as fond of their foods as us though. His mom was disappointed that the bread and pancakes weren't served with butter or even brought out with the syrup and his dad's steak was tough in his opinion. My partner and I enjoyed our waffles, breakfast platter and Benedict though! The service wasn't that great though. Water never refilled and server didn't come back frequently enough. read more

The fried chicken had a nice flavor but I also topped it with hot sauce and syrup (try it!) I can not wait to go back and try other menu items. I may even sit outside in the covered seating area. This place used to be good but apparently they've developed a habit of serving what looks and tastes like old chicken re-dipped in old grease. If you eat chicken you know what it tastes and looks like when it's cooked in old grease or refried. This is the 2nd or 3rd time we've had this issue. That's a lot seeing as how we don't frequent Metro that much anymore. Prices have gone up and quality has gone all the way down. How and why am I getting dark, dry, super greasy chicken at 10:30am!?? Has to be leftovers. It smells like burnt grease. It even looks old so I'm confused as to why they'd even serve this to someone. Very nasty work to even plate this up. read more

So it's lunch time and I am sitting at my desk dreaming of Cheeseburger Benedict. We had a lovely mother-son brunch yesterday. The food and service were amazing. I can see why the wait was so long. This place reminds me of a traditional NY deli. Once it was our turn our server seated us and told us about the specials. It is all about service for me and she was on top of things. She talked with my son and made sure he was happy. When the plates came out she even reminded him his plate was hot. I could have hugged her. But seriously, I need more Cheeseburger Benedict in my life. It was a special and so I wonder if I ask will they make it for me. Easily one of my favorite places for brunch in Raleigh. You can't beat the food portions and $3.39 mimosas! I had the steak bowl with mimosas and red velvet pudding for dessert. My friends enjoyed their meals as well. I would return or recommend to others. Parking lot parking is always a plus for me with restaurants. The photos of the food on Yelp was what made me try this place. Order: classic egg Benedict, bacon egg cheese croissant, the bissell. The Benedict was served on English muffin with Canadian bacon and hollandaise sauce and a side of hash browns. The muffin wasn't soggy but it also wasn't crispy. It was too salty for me as the eggs were seasoned and that paired with the ham was too much saltiness. You can't go wrong with a basic croissant sandwich. The bissell came with eggs, pancakes, sausage, biscuit, and grits. Plenty of food. Everything was delightful in this combo but the grits. The grits had a weird "milky" texture that wasn't pleasant to the palate. Overall the place is okay. I would return to try other menu items like the fried chicken and waffle. read more

In many of my reviews I mention how much I love breakfast, and how I'm always on the lookout for great huevos rancheros. Today I had some of the best ever at Metro Diner. Eggs over medium and cooked to perfection, scrumptious nachos, sausage, corn, scallions, black beans, roasted red pepper, sour cream, and more. These huevos were a 10 out of 10 for me! This is a gem located conveniently near hospitals, accommodations, malls, convenience stores, main roads. I feel it's a cross between a cafe and a Mom and Pop eatery. The hostess seated my husband and me promptly at the Brunch time of day on a weekend. The server was friendly and checked on us frequently. Our food was hot and served in a timely manner. While I chose breakfast fare- back, eggs, hash browns, a pancake, my husband chose the fried chicken option with a house salad, and mashed potatoes; the menu offered a variety of cultural choices. Alcoholic Beverages were available if chosen. Pop music was playing overhead. I really enjoyed my meal as did my husband.
