The best place to get a real breakfast in the Newark area. It was the best place comparable to a New Jersey or New York diner I found in four years at UD. Their chicken and waffles, sausage and gravy, and eggs benedict were amazing. They also have gluten free options!! Only downside is you might wait a while to get a seat and they don't take reservations. If you're a small party you might be able to snag a seat at the bar top counter, which is cool because you get to watch the restaurant staff cook. read more

The food was really good and service was even better! The place was full so we had a moderate wait. This wasn't bad for early afternoon on a Sunday. Once we were sat, we were greeted soon after by a server. Our drinks came out quickly and Ash answered all our questions about the menu and made helpful suggestions as well. It didn't take long before our food came out. Although it was a little confusion about who got what when the food came because our server didn't bring. But it was sorted out quickly. All of us really like what we ordered. The portions are very hearty. However the food could've been a little hotter when it came out. The best part of the experience was getting to talk to the owner, Daye (sp?). He was walking around helping the wait staff the entire time which I really liked. He told us about how about much time goes into preparing the menu items, specifically the chicken and waffles. I will be back very soon to try it. All in all I really enjoyed dining there. read more

First time here definitely not the last! As soon as my husband and I walked in we were greeted. We were shown to our table. We were seated maybe two minutes when our waitress Dominique came over and introduced herself. Very pleasant lady. She brought our drinks out right away. We ordered our food. Went to Metro Diner for the first time. What a bunch of legends. Free coffee and water while you wait, then we sat down and Tim came over. Tim noticed my voice sounded hoarse, and mentioned he had lozenges if I'd like one. I took one because it's Spring and pollen is my kryptonite. Tim was pleasant and personable and brought us food (also a plus). The Ranchos Heuveous (sp?) were a miracle. After I ate them I could suddenly play piano. I never played piano before. Then his manager Noelle came over and SHE was awesome too. I couldn't believe so many nice people worked at a place where the food is great too. I mean, there are Ruby Tuesdays around and that's normally nice people that don't bring you food for 2 hours until everyone just dies of starvation or gets up or and walks out of that Ruby Tuesdays. Here at Metro, it was the Anti-Ruby Tuesdays. I'm glad they exist. If you get to go there. Ask for Tim's table, especially if you have a sore throat because he may have lozenges, and make sure Noelle comes over too and just hang out, eat some Ranchos Heuveous (sp?) and talk some life. I have been here I guess 3 times and the food is ok. It is pretty much typical diner food and probably the better of what is around the area anymore. My last experience is what has me giving it 3 stars instead of 4. One thing that I cannot stand is dirty silverware and I ended up with 2 sets that were not clean. I think that all establishments should offer plastic stemware especially if they get multiple complaints that it isn't clean. The manager did apologize but that's ridiculous. The server was very pleasant however when I was ready for the check she disappeared which was irritating after honestly not enjoying my meal due to the issue with the silverware. I like the location's look there on Churchmans and I have another $25 gift certificate to use so I will give it one more try; perhaps will update this review. I didn't get it this time but I will say that the chicken and waffles are pretty good and has been the best meal that I have eaten here so I do suggest that! read more

I ordered 5 fish and chips (for me and my coworkers - take out). The coleslaw had no seasoning or dressing at all. No tartar sauce was put in the bags either. I called back and they said I could bring the food back and they would take care of it. It was our lunch time so I could not do that... It is my third time eating from there and the first one for my coworkers.... They were a little disappointed.... Fish and chips were good though.... That was yesterday. Today, I stopped by with my husband for breakfast and talked to the manager about it. He apologized, and took care of the issue, so my coworker can try it again. I hope It will be better next time. Ordered, shrimp n grits, also chicken n nutty waffle with strawberry butter. Make sure you get a doggie bag, the portions are more than generous.
