Metro Diner is the diner to end all diners. Every time I've been there there's been a waiting line of at least 20 minutes. The waiting staff is friendly, personable, and hard working. The general manager cares about the customers and even takes time to chat with as many as he can. The kitchen staff are organized, efficient, and fast. If you get a chance to see them at work you'll notice that they coordinate perfectly and the team work is flawless. The shrimp and grits were incredible. The grits are actually fried grit cakes that are set in a bed of chipped gravy with shrimp, bacon, and peppers. Its a great signature dish and I recommend it to all. read more

My sister and I came here this morning. we heard it was a new place and pretty good. Unfortunately we will never know as we just sat at our seats for 10mins and we were never served, while customers seated after us were served immediately. It wasn't crowded at all so no excuses. When leaving I told the hostess that we were never served and her response was "oh" . Won't be back. read more

Finally a good breakfast spot in Newark. Food was good, wait was long but that's expected cause it is a new business and there aren't many great food choices in Delaware. Only complaint was a rude hostess. I called beforehand and I guess a rookie employee put my name down but she wasn't supposed to because they don't take call aheads. Went there for dinner on a Friday night. It was 3 of us, plus we order a to go order. For a Friday night we were seated quickly. In less than ten minutes. Our waiter was super friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu. We didn't order apps, but our dishes were out quickly. We placed a to go order, and it was ready to go when our check was brought out. Food was great, and our serves was just as good. Portion are big, and are shareable in size, but I don't know if there is a sharing fee. I'm looking forward to going back for breakfast. read more

UPDATE: I received a call from the Manager at this Metro location. He was extremely upset by our experience. And listened patiently to my position on the gift certificate vs the $10.00 reimbursement. Here's why: I visited the diner, as we had several times before. We have had multiple different waitresses. We also had excellent service. Upon walking in, we were seated after a brief wait. We were assigned "Samantha" as our waitress. She arrived at our table after arguing that she should get the "large party that just walked in the door." She was loud, abrasive & inpatient in when taking our order. She obviously was unaware that she was in a diner setting and not a bar setting. She then brought our drinks. She said in a loud voice if my 66 year old disabled husband if he needed a "sissy straw" to drink out of. This embarrassed him and our party to no end! We received our meal without the fries that went with it. That took 5 minutes to get. By that time the fish was cold! We asked to speak to the owner. She said there was none there. To make a loud and clear statement (and the first time in our lives), we left no tip. But here is the worst issue: When we checked our bank on line, "Samantha" had written in on our ticket a $10.00 tip for herself. That was more than 15% on a $42.53 meal!! YES, SHE STOLE FROM US $10.00!!!!!! We called the restaurant and spoke to Dai. He was apologetic. He offered us $25.00 coupon to go back to the very same restaurant that STOLE FROM US!!! NOT HAPPENING. We want our $10.00!!!!!!!!! I would love the opportunity to meet with the girl and confront her as to why she felt it was appropriate to steal from us. I also had an order of the cheese grits, and being from the south I was skeptical since I've yet to find any legit grits up here...they were absolutely legit...I felt like I was back home in GA for a moment. We have been to The Metro, as we like to call it now. Every time we eat in or out the food Is awesome. Staff is great, I love sitting at the counter because you get a show with breakfast. Its like grand central station. My only complaint which really isn't a deal breaker is I wish the coffee was better because we usally would get refills but it's a little strong. And the wait is a tad long but that means the food Is awesome and the take out pick up is long. But we have been there 6x so it's not a deal breaker. Lol read more

Has that 'almost local' diner feel, clean but a little to cookie cutter decor to be a real locals diner. Overall a good experience with prices being average to medium high. Service very prompt and courteous, Timothy, our server, was very well versed in the entire menu; very professional and good representative for the company. Food arrived quick and was very tasty. We had San Fran eggs beni and Corned beef hash with poached eggs. Hollandaise seemed like it was instant, but was still palatable. Will return to try other menu items. This was my first time at Metro dinner and might be my last. I ordered a chicken salad to go, because I had heard so many good things about this dinner and I usually eat salad daily, not here ever again. I called in order to avoid wait, np but when I got home nothing but brown lettuce fit for garbage , three pieces of onions and three little tomatoes, one egg and plenty of croutons. Chicken salad was fair at best , tasteless with no pecans or celery as advertised and too much mayo. I called to speak with management and then the forever hold.. Visiting the area and this diner was in chose proximity. The staff and cooks are very friendly. There are many options on their menu with something for everyone! I decided to get the Chicken & Waffles. They were fantastic, chicken was flavorful and the sauce brought everything together. Definitely worth coming back if I'm ever in Delaware. read more

I really want to like this place- lord knows we need a decent diner in the area. I have visited 3 times with mixed results 1. Sat at counter and food and service was great. 2. Sat at table for 15 minutes without anyone stopping. Place was slow so that wasn't the reason. I think I was in between sections. I finally got up and left. 3 I had special "moms omelette". Omelette was very good. Toast is served Unbuttered. Mine was cold which made it impossible to butter with the cold butter pats provided. Home fries are not home fries but rather prepackaged potato chunks. Needless to say I only ate the omelette. Service was good though I was given the wrong check initially. I was very excited to see Fish and Chips on the menu although I originally was going to have breakfast. My first bite of fish was over the top salty like someone had poured half a box of salt into the batter. I ate the one piece but couldn't eat the second. My husband said I should say something but I'm not a complainer. I did mention it to the waiter when he brought the bill. He told me they were using a new beer batter on the fish and said sorry and walked away. I fear anyone with issues of salt could have real health problem eating this. Even back home I can't get that salty taste out of my mouth. I've eaten here several times and never had an issue even with the fried chicken. Diners beware unless you like a ton of salt don't order the Fish and Chips which I imagine will be something ordered on Friday's during Lent. read more

This was our first visit to Metro diner, and my wife and I seated ourself at the counter overlooking the kitchen staff at work. The first thing we noticed was how Christopher interacted with his staff. His positive personality and encouragement to his staff was obviously very infectious to his coworkers. Chris had nothing but good things to say to his staff and it was obvious that they thoroughly enjoyed working as a team with Chris. It was so refreshing to see them working together as a team, and having a lot of fun as well. The food was delivered quickly and was very tasty. First time... stopped by for breakfast and thought it was pretty good. Had eggs Benedict which I eat frequently when I go out. Thought it was up there with some of the best. Service was fine. Waited about 5 mins for a table. My husband likes combos (eggs and pancakes) which they do not have. His other complaint was they do not butter the toast and the butter on the table is so hard it doesn't melt and rips the bread. read more

Not bad but not the best. I had chicken Alfredo with bacon and tomato. Chicken was a little dry, bacon really didn't go, Alfredo sauce resembled biscuit gravy, tomato was missing, garlic bread had little if any garlic but a lot of herb that did not go well with the dish. Mom had meatloaf. She is very picky and loved it, the mash potatoes, and squash. The waitress was not very attentive. If she had asked, we would have ordered dessert but she brought us the check and didn't bother. read more
