I had been looking forward to trying this diner out, but unfortunately my husband and I were very disappointed. I got the stuffing waffle with turkey and gravy as you can see in the picture it doesn't look appetizing at all. The gravy was lumpy and thick and the entire dish was flavorless, almost as if they didn't season it with even salt and pepper. Okay, Metro Diner has found their Mojo again. The last time we were here it was a disappointment and a disaster. I guess the combination of a new server and confusing order pads were the reason. Today we returned for breakfast since today is my birthday. We sat down and immediately greeted by our server Brittany, a very pleasant young lady. Ordered our coffees and breakfast at the same time with no waiting. I ordered the classic eggs Benedict and my wife ordered the biscuits and gravy. Before the coffee even began to cool down, Brittany delivered the food to our table. The eggs Benedict were done to perfection and the hash browns had just the right crunch on the outside and warm and soft on the inside. The biscuits and gravy again were done to perfection, in fact, my wife said the portion was too large for her to eat completely...I became a member of the clean plate club. Between Brittany's excellent attention and the well prepared meal, Metro has redeemed itself in our eyes from our last visit. We always used to sit at Gabby's station pre-Covid, but, apparently she is no longer at Metro. Our new go to server is Brittany!!! read more

The Metro Diner is alright. And I say that with reasons. We arrived yesterday morning and were immediately greeted by 4 bright and happy hostesses. One of them walked my mother and I back to our table which was situation in front of both the bathroom and kitchen doors. My mom has a torn ACL and MCL so we requested a booth only because it was easier for her to get in and out of and the hostess was very accommodating. The booths are HUGE - you could fit 6 people comfortably. Good things there. We sat down and waited, and waited, and waited ... no server. A large party came in after us and were seated at an adjacent booth and were greeted by a server almost instantly - okaaaay. I went up to the hostess stand and told them that's it's been awhile (about 10-15 minutes ) since we sat down and no server. They were apologetic and told me they would get someone. A couple minutes later the same waitress came over and was apologetic, saying the seating chart had been rearranged and she didn't know or something along the lines of that. We understood and she took our food and drink order. She came back very quickly with our drinks and told us our food would be out shortly (oh, the irony ...). We drank our coffees and conversed and what did we do again? Wait, and wait, and wait ... while the restaurant was about 3/4 full we still waited easily 20-30 minutes for a veggie omelet and cinnamon roll pancakes. The food was good, but not great. The veggie omelet meal was pretty big and my pancakes were plate size (you get two), but the pancakes do not come with a side. Just 2 pancakes for $9.99. I ended up ordering a side of hashbrowns for $2.99. While we were okay paying this price, it is certainly a little pricey for our area. I know as a college student I wouldn't bring my friends along for a good meal because of the price. I understand this is a franchise but surely they can drop the price by a buck or two. We got up to leave and I headed to bathroom. In the doorway of the bathroom I felt my foot slip a little bit. I was wearing flip flops so I just figured the floor was wet. On my way out of the bathroom I nearly fell. I don't know whether the floor was greasy or what because it certainly wasn't wet. My mom had to grab the wall on her way out of the bathroom because she almost fell too. The overall consumers in the place were retirement age couples, so the danger level of a slippery floor is high. Overall, I felt like our experience was certainly damped by the long wait. Sure, they're new and all, but still. We are frequent flyers of the 301 Restaurant and figured we'd give the new place a go as we were excited to go when it was being built. We just ate lunch here for the first time. The service was excellent and the food was very good. We had the Protein Breakfast and Fried Chicken. The special mixture of syrup and hot sauce was really tasty. We will need to add a five mile run to burn it off though.... It's worth a visit! read more

The staff was very friendly, and checked in with my often ( but not in the nuisance type of way). Enjoyed this place when it first opened but then it lost something. Portions got minimal for the price I was spending so I stopped going. Fast forward to inside dining reopening since the plague and being eager to get out again we decided to give it another try. Gotta say what a pleasant surprise and change from what I remember. I'm a breakfast guy and all of a sudden the portions got larger and tastier. Even the coffee tastes better lol. Definitely now worth the price you pay. Heard they got a new manager in 2020 so if that the reason my hats off to them. Keep it up as it's made all the difference. I absolutely love this place my fav is the Charleston shrimp and grits substitute the grit cake for loose grits and turkey sausage instead of andouille. My husbands favorite is the chili, he also gets the chicken and waffles. The waiter Troy and the waitresses Gabby and Abbey are so awesome just as the owner Jason they make it feel like such a welcoming atmosphere. Definitely recommend this place! read more

My family and I just happened to find this quaint little diner off the highway in Middletown Delaware. We were traveling back home from Ft. Myers Florida to Cheshire Connecticut. It was past normal dinner hour as we were stuck in Annapolis traffic and heavy rain storms so we pulled off the highway at 745 pm looking for somewhere to get a bite to eat. We pulled into the lot with a number of cars parked. We went to the door of the diner at 755pm and the posted hours were 8-8 . We thought we were out of luck but a manager , Marshall was right behind us going into the diner & asked us if he could help us & he said it was before 8pm and kindly told us to take a seat and someone would be over to the table to take our order. He could have sent us away as many of the businesses lock up earlier than normal since the pandemic. He did not. We were so impressed by our waiter Troy and the rest of the kitchen crew that were friendly and efficient and prepared a yummy meal for us . We were the last of the customers that night.This is a diner with a heart. Many of the restaurants could learn something positive from this homelike diner. read more

Was hoping for a great diner but was just average to below at best. Had to wait about 15 minutes to be seated. That was not a big deal. The place was busy that should be a good sign. Once seated we tried to place our order but it seemed like they were out of almost everything we wanted to order on the menu. We noticed the same thing happening at tables around us. We finally found things on the menu that they had, however had to pay a higher price for sides, because they were out of the regular sides we wanted to order. My wife and I split a sandwich only to later find when we got the check we were charged $2 for an empty plate. Really? Food was average, nothing special, but not bad either. Drink prices were high. $2.50 for fountain soda and $3.50 for an Orange Juice. I forgot to mention that our ketchup container was empty, when we told the manager he told us that the did not have any more ketchup containers. He had to take some from another table and put it in a little cup. Lastly, be careful of the bathroom the floor was dangerously wet and in desperate need of attention. Seems like this location is in need of some better management. The biggest positive was that our waitress was very nice. I felt bad for her having to deal with so many things beyond her control. We have tried off and on to get takeout from this restaurant. Once in awhile it's ok but usually not. Why do we keep going back? Well we found two things that were pretty good on the menu and that is the French Dip and the fried onion rings. We recently tried to order these two items and they no longer have them. What??? You do two things right and now don't make them? So we ordered the fried chicken platter and a burger. The gravy that came with the chicken was so salty it was inedible. The chicken was over cooked and the smallest pieces of chicken ever. Maybe it was a Capon and not chicken. The burger was also over cooked. We added coleslaw for an additional $2.99 and got a very small container with maybe one tablespoon of coleslaw in it for $2.99. WHAT????? I just don't get it. We eat at the metro diner near the hospital in Christiana/Newark and always get everything we want, prepared well and everyone there is so pleasant. Why such a big difference from there to Middletown? Needless to say we won't be going back because now they don't make anything that is edible. Save your money. Go somewhere else. I only get to Middletown DE about every 4 to 6 months and I have found my go to restaurant. The atmosphere is casual but the food is fantastic. I was served a fish and chips entree, the cod was cook perfectly. The outside was a golden brown and when I broke the fish apart the cod had that awesome texture, the cod was moist and just flaked apart. The coleslaw was a great add. But the barstools are pretty uncomfortable, so I wouldn't plan a long visit. I ordered a routine breakfast - normally don't order has browns but saw how they were cooking theirs and had to. Was NOT disappointed. I'm telling you order it and you won't be disappointed. There's not many places you can go for these prices and get this food. Diner has been open at this new location for about four weeks. We went for an early dinner and sat at the counter. Daughter ordered Biscuits and Gravy with scrambled eggs "Well done, with no browning". The eggs were perfect and plenty of sausage gravy. (many other places you run out of gravy before finishing the biscuits.) Her hash browns were too under cooked for her liking. The hash was about 1 1/2" thick, hot thru out. Server offered a replacement. Told daughter to ask them to "scramble" the hash brown next time. I thought they were great. Eggs Benedict hollandaise sauce was lumpy with oil streaks. Whisking would go a long way in keeping it incorporated. Whisk could also be used to drizzle over the eggs. Overall they were fine. We will return to try other menu items. Huge amount of seating inside and a great place to take the family! It's a busy place and not a be quiet place so if you have kids, bring me on! Yeah you may have to wait a little on a busy day, well worth it. For the price you get a TON of food on that plate! First time in this diner...I ordered the Reuben sandwich and my husband the chicken pot pie. The place was packed (every table was full) but we didn't wait long for any greeting, seating (20 min) ordering food or delivery of food. For as busy as they were, the kitchen was well run and organized! Impressed with IPads to take orders, very efficient and first sit down restaurant place that I have seen that used them that way. Reuben was great, chicken pot pie was even better! It will be the next thing I order! Waitress was friendly, bus boys were quick, manager (I think his name was James or John) was circulating and checking on tables to make sure service was great, he was also helping to deliver food as needed!
