We ate here today and it was really a good experience. The food portions are huge (which is awesome) and the prices are good. I got chicken & waffles and it was excellent. My husband got metro club & he really liked it also. We will be back & next time I will try the monte Cristo read more

Delicious food and attentive staff! I would definitely come back again. Get the pancakes!

The place is great. The people are friendly and accommodating. Although the menu doesn't show half orders the staff was more than willing to do so. I've included a picture of my Chicken and Waffles with a spicy strawberry compo. It was Fantastic! We're from Upstate New York, but if we lived close we'd be regulars. read more

Metro Diner is a great spot for breakfast or lunch in Gainesville! Big portions and reasonable prices will please students and Gainesville residents alike. My favorite is the chicken and waffles--HALF a chicken, Belgium waffle, strawberry butter & spicy syrup left me unable to move but SO HAPPY. It can get pretty slammed on the weekends, but it's a solid brunch spot in Gainesville, serving a wide variety of items that is sure to make anyone in your party happy. read more

Metro Diner - The famous chicken and waffles - Diners Near Me - Gainesville, Florida

Metro diner is the newest "greasy spoon" diner in Gainesville. We decided to to go there for New Year's day breakfast. We were seated outside, which was pleasant, but every now and then we got a wiff of garbage. Our server greeted us when we sat, and we had waters quickly. Looking over the menu it looked to be standard diner food, but standard diner food is pretty unique to Gainesville. Chipped beef on toast, chicken and waffles, and corned beef hash were all present. The usual fare of pancakes, eggs, bacon, and omelets were also available. Creamed chipped beef on toast was what I selected. I had had this dish growing up, but never from scratch, always Stouffers. It must had been busy because whenever we saw our waitress she seemed harried and rushes. The floor manager did check in on us for refills and how our experience was. When my order came it was nice and hot. The sourdough toast was toasted perfectly. The cream chipped beef was creamy and savory. Could use a hint more salt. The beef didn't contribute much flavor, more textural, providing contrast to the fluffy toast. It was also clear that the philosophy if bigger is better was in full effect. My SOS wasn't on a plate, but a tray! Metro diner had good ambiance, and polite but hurried staff. The portions are ample, and are most definitely upscale diner. Metro Diner did not suck. read more

Food was amazing and liked watching it be prepared was even better there was a long wait but manager told me if we sat at the bar we could sit immediately and that what we did. And service was still great read more

The food here was pretty good I had the fried chicken and waffles. The chicken was well seasoned. The waffles were just ok. I'd come back again to try the breakfast pizza seems like a majority of people were ordering that off the menu. But pretty decent spot. It does get crowded well when I went. read more

Love all the menu options - so many to choose from. It's very loud in here - okay with kids but not so much relaxing for conversation. Wait is always entirely too long but the service is good once seated. Prices super reasonable. Took off one star mostly because getting seated is a nightmare. read more

Came here last week and really enjoyed the chicken and waffles! Long wait and slow service but I imagine they are still working out the kinks. The strawberry butter was to die for and if I go back, I'll definitely get the strawberry cheesecake stuffed waffle. Otherwise, the dish was good but just your standard chicken and waffles. read more

Okay so Let me start out by saying that my food was great. However my fiancé's on the other hand was ehh shall we say lacking a bit. he had the bissell breakfast- the bacon was burnt now I myself like a lil crisp bacon but his was inedible. The eggs were so yellow in color and were also overdone and tasted horrible the only thing he did eat was the pancakes and some toast which was just okay. :-( I got the Monte cristo sandwich served with powdered sugar and raspberry preserves which were also amazing the sandwich was huge and very tasty however I was only able to finish one piece. My side was the red skin mashed potatoes with gravy and those need some help they are very bland. All in all it was a nice clean atmosphere. read more

This place has the best food I've had thus far in Gainesville! I went for breakfast with my boyfriend. It was crowded, loud and we had to wait for a table. The food was insanely good. So it was definitely worth the noise and the wait! I had the crab cake eggs benedict with hash browns... omg! My boyfriend had another eggs benedict with avacado (forget what it was called). The food was so good, we decided to go back the next morning and have breakfast there again! (BTW I got the same thing again!) read more

Great food, great service. Our server, Miranda, was able to keep up with a very busy patio on a Saturday morning. She was pleasant and enthusiastic. The food was great. read more

The food isn't "wowza" but for a diner, it's great! The only thing I do realize is that the wait time is pretty long when it's a weekend morning, especially around breakfast time. read more

This shit is so dank I cannot describe it. No matter how hungover or tired I am, after the first bite of my Bisell breakfast I can feel the soul of baby Jesus coursing threw my loins and I am a renewed man. Large menu. Friendly staff and manager. Breakfast all day if desired. Nice portions. Pretty easy to park. A bit of a wait at popular times.

Metro diner is so versatile with so many different breakfast flavors. I have a hard time resisting the breakfast pizza but also am a sucker for the cinnamon roll pancakes... and on a standard morning I'll go for a 2 egg breakfast because those biscuits and bacon will start any day off well. I have always had great experiences with the staff and walk away wanting to be friends. Metro diner is a staple in my life. read more

Metro Diner has to be one of the best breakfast places I've ever been too. There's so many choices, all equally delicious!! Every waiter/waitress has always been sooooo kind, and even when there is a wait the people are super accommodating. Especially since they put out free coffee in the morning!! read more

Absolutely the best diner experience for miles. Food is ALWAYS spot on, service fast, friendly and considerate. Management will always come out to your table to make sure you and happy and will fix any issue quickly and with a genuine smile. When we go to Gator Town we eat here religiously. I have gotten good service almost every time at metro diner. Good menu selection and reasonable prices.

Their food is over rated. This is a greasy food place, I guess what you'd expect from a "Diner". I honestly prefer Waffle House to this.

We were on our way from Dallas to Tampa and stopped here. We have ate at the Metro Diner by UCF before and loved it so we decided to try the one by UF. We sat at the counter and had a blast. The cooks in the kitchen get it done and work so well together. It's a small kitchen and having 10+ cooks for a Sunday morning rush should be a challenge, but they were quick, efficient and friendly to us. We honestly liked the food and service better at this location compared to the one we usually go to. I had the yo hala and I would 100% get that again. It was amazing. If we are ever in Gainesville again this will be our breakfast stop. read more

The last time I went here was also the very first time and nothing was very good. I thought it was just me but my friend had agreed with me on everything I had said. Our food wasn't SUPER hot, it was like a luke warm bath type of temperature. The macaroni and cheese reminded me of something you'd get out of a microwaveable dinner tray. Tenders weren't that good and the cheese steak was dry. I hate to be so cruel but a review is a review! read more

Excellent service! Huge portions. Very good food. Outside seating was spot on being that it was very busy inside. Zach was a very friendly and attentive waiter. There will be a repeat trip to this establishment. read more

Love this place. It can get PACKED around brunch time but they still get out orders very quickly!! I just wish they kept the Cajun chicken pasta on the menu because it was my absolute favorite and the last time I went they had unfortunately removed it. Reasonable prices. Unique food options. Many many food options. The quality is so good. 10/10 recommend

My family eats here all the time, there's something for everyone at a great price. One of the best spots in town for sure.

We're visiting from Las Vegas, NV. Loved the chicken and waffles! Wasn't ever a big fan of the thought of it, until now. Seasoned to perfection and not dry. Waffles were delicious as well. The plates were very good sized. Biscuits and gravy were great. Service was great. We will definitely be returning often. I didn't know Metro Diner started in Jacksonville Florida. This location is always packed. Thanks for a great experience! read more

I did NOT want to eat here! I looked over the menu before arriving and nothing really appealed to me, but my husband wanted to try it. I'm just not a sandwich or a "diner" fan and this place is all over that! Gravies and fried stuff, meh Then, I met Big Bern's Fried Pork Sandwich (fried pork tenderloin topped with provolone cheese, wilted spinach, caramelized red onions, bacon, fried jalapenos, tomato and garlic aioli on grilled Italian bread). I'm going to marry Big Bern, whoever he is! I could eat this every day and still not get enough, but I wouldn't because I just know it's bad for me. Of course it is! I don't even remember what my husband had, probably meat loaf or something, but I'll be back for another hook-up with Big Bern! read more

I like the chicken and waffles! The chicken is crispy and flavorful . The waffles are tasty too with an interesting strawberry butter . I have order a few other not as memorable meals.they have indoor and a covered outdoor space as well. Expect a wait on weekend. read more

Eh. Not a high quality. Could eat else where for the same money with better food. Overrated.

Delicious consistently. Service has also been reliably great! I've been to Jacksonville and Gainesville locations and recommend both highly!

Metro Diner is a reliable choice in Gainesville for diner food. The original location was featured on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. This diner has grown and now has several locations even as north as Virginia. However, they have tried their hardest to maintain their diner vibe and not feel like a chain. The Gainesville location can get busy no matter the day or tome but Sundays around 9-11am there is a large rush. I've had breakfast, lunch, and dinner and their extensive menu has a little bit of everything for everyone. Breakfast is their strong suit. I like their breakfast pizza on a biscuit crust and pretty much any item. Breakfast is served 24/7 and they usually have a special on their chalkboards that are worth a try! Lunch and dinner is a little more limited in options but it works. I've had the Bold City burger and it was slightly overwhelming and have learned to ask for the sausage patty to be taken off. The American burger is good but their lettuce slaw can make it a little salty. read more
