Great place for lunch! First off the menu choices are excellent. You can get breakfast all day. Second the proportions are amble. Hard to actually finish it all, but it's too good to set your fork down. Today they also had a French vanilla coffee which smelled and tasted delicious! I tried the Veggie Omelet which was superb! Cooked perfectly with a mix of fresh vegetables. A rare treat, you must try. The service is excellent. As I said in my initial review of the Metro Diner, the management handled the unfortunate situation as well as can be expected. I was contacted by management and asked to relay the experience. In a week or so, a generous gift certificate arrived in the mail. We decided to give it another go Our second visit was without incident as the manager made a special effort to ensure our meal was superb. The food was delicious. I usually order from here at least once a week because the food is that good and never disappoints... until yesterday. Ordered the steak scramble as usual and was delivered via DoorDash. First, I noticed the order was a smaller portion than usual for dinner. Second, the steak was burnt with no taste and the potatoes were SO salty. They had call ahead seating, so I called and advised them that we would be there within 30 minutes and she stated that they would have a section ready for us when we got there, and it was true no wait the hostess was very nice provided the accommodations for the babies and kids. the waitress came over at first she looked a lil bit concerned by our large party, I introduced myself and advised that we were celebrating my nephews Birthday and military graduation she told him happy birthday and congrats she took all of drink orders and gave us a few more minutes to look over the menu she brought the drinks back quickly with some additional hand help she also brought out waters for the entire group which was considerate she began to take our orders and I must say the popular favorites at the table were the Charleston shrimp and grits and Chicken and Waffles with the delicious strawberry butter, I did a taste test so I ordered Chicken and Waffles, Biscuits and gravy in addition to what I really had a taste for which was the Turkey club, these are sizable portions to eat so I ended up sharing she brought put extra plates so that we could share the rave was the strawberry butter nobody wanted syrup which appeared to be a thing of the past for us. Disappointed doesn't cover it. This was our first time eating out since this mess all started and I'm not keen on going back anytime soon. They brought out our coffee with spoons in - the one I pulled from my cup had some sort of sticky residue that definitely didn't come from a cup of coffee on it. It didn't look like it had been cleaned and there was nothing to be done about the coffee that was already contaminated. Then, I ordered the western omelette - it looked alright, until I cut into it. The eggs weren't cooked in the middle - still totally raw and snotty. The toppings were cold. I couldn't eat it. Our server didn't come back to ask if there was a problem until we were out of coffee. Despite a long look at my untouched entree, she didn't ask how it was and didn't hesitate to charge us full price for it. They are not socially distancing booths, and there is no protective measure - like plastic sheeting or plexiglass - between adjacent booths. The buss boy didn't sanitize the chairs, just the table top and the salt and pepper. Two stars for the biscuits and gravy my husband got - they were fantastic. Man we have eaten at Metro Diners all over the country and this is by far the worst one. First of all it's dirty, the majority of the staff are unprofessional, they are only half-way adhering to any type of COVID restrictions or social distancing, most of the people there had no masks on, the chicken wings we ordered were not cooked all the way through. The French toast was burnt. Our waitress was ok, not bad but not great either. Need to close this location for a few months, give it a deep clean, get rid of the entire staff and start over. This new location is tucked away behind the mall on the corner, so don't be surprised if you drive past it. In short, on a Saturday morning : The food was a little above average. The wait was looonnnggg. The price was very fair. At this writing, first weekend of March 2018, they still haven't received their liquor license. So, beer and wine are still not available. But coming soon! Seating was somewhat limited and primarily benches and open area style. Good for families with small kids. Not an intimate setting! Definitely noisy! Still a pretty good value. I had yeh huevos rancheros which were nowhere near spicy enough to call itself southwestern or Mexican fare. One of the best breakfast joints I've ever been to! The service was amazing, management was really nice, the food was TOP quality and absolutely delicious. My wife ordered the avocado toast and I got the Chicken and Waffles and added blueberries, strawberries, and bananas to my waffle. They have this hot sauce syrup that they serve with the chicken and it is to die for! I don't know why this is rated at 3.5 stars but it should 100% be a 5 star breakfast establishment. This was my first time at a Metro Diner. We had to wait to be seated, but the wait was not bad. The hostess offered everyone a drink while we waited. Overall, the food and service were good, especially for a restaurant just opening. I had the chicken pot pie, and my wife had the chili and a side of corned beef hash. My wife got the corned beef because the menu said that it was homemade. When it arrived, it looked like it came out of a can. When she tasted it, the hash was homemade, but not exciting. While I would go back again, this is not a true diner. The menu is more on the scale of a Denny's or IHOP. It has limited hours, plus it has limited desserts (to me, the cornerstone of a true diner). Our server, Cara, was awesome. She created us with a bright smile and enthusiasm. Very sweet girl and very attentive. I decided on a classic eggs, bacon, hash browns, toast and small stack of pancakes meal while Matt chose the infamous breakfast pie! We started to become a bit worried as we waited a little longer for our food than was expected. However, it was well worth the wait. I was brought a HUGE platter of deliciousness while Matt took on his rather large bowl of pie and cheese grits. Everything was piping hot and very fresh. So I am re-writing my review based on the awesome servers I met here. All though I still try to avoid the hostess like a bad plague, I still want to recognize the servers I've encountered here. First, Rob was by far my favorite server. His customer service exceeded my expectations. After hearing about my first time and what a bad experience I had at Metro Diner, he was super sweet and helpful when it came to the menu. The waffles are still good here and if you add the strawberry butter, it taste super yummy. Also, I wouldn't wear heels to this place. The floors can be somewhat slippery and I would hate for someone to slip and fall. That could be embarrassing. My sister had the chicken pot pie. They give you a big portion of food. The food is "diner" but he atmosphere is "retro". So it is different and the prices are maybe a little high for what you get. Service is good and you normally don't have to wait long at all. We have only been there twice but may not go back. It is just not a very inviting place. I think I would rather go to Chicken salad chik or Applebee's one block away. read more
